jrg
12:15 AM
Wow, it's... dead

what is?
pokes it with a stick

jrg
Hello @lazyPower.

I am IRON MAN

jrg
12:30 AM
:)
not sure if you've seen this or not, but you might find this useful if you ever decide to use puppet instead of chef. :) - theforeman.org
(derp. thats what I get for not checking which tab i'm in. :P)

12:42 AM
;) saw that.

1:30 AM
@jrg so many filters

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Heh.
Very true

1:54 AM
One or two hours later... Still compiling Gimp 2.8...

Why are you compiling Gimp 2.8 for Ubuntu?
Why not just use the PPA?

jrg
He's compiling on Windows iirc

4 hours ago, by George Edison
Building Gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu...

@jrg Well, not exactly...
I gave up on that yesterday.

jrg
Forget I said anything. :P

1:55 AM
I'm compiling on 12.04 now.
I freely admint I could have used the PPA... but I'll be compiling a custom plugin, so I needed the dev. headers for the Gimp.
I figured I might as well just go the old fashioned route and compile it myself anyway.

I remember screwing up my install trying to compile Gimp 2.7 last time

jrg
@lazyPower before you get really deep into ruby, here is a pro tip: learn how to speed up bundle install

Oh good - on to the next step sudo make install.

bundler for the win

jrg
Yeah, bundler is nice, but because it does a apt-get update every. freakin. time. it's really slow

2:23 AM
yeah but its dependency management
and i'd rather have a good management tool than a stupid fast mis-management tool

jrg
So? Just look at my Gemfile.lock, at least until I tell it to run bundle up

Launching freshly-compiled Gimp...

lol @GeorgeEdison You would make an awesome tweeter.

jrg
Yes, he would. He should use Twitter more often.
or hang out on IRC 24/7

that would work too

2:30 AM

sweeet

He is using gnome-fallback @.@

Part 1 is complete. Part 2 is getting my WebP plugin to compile.
@jokerdino That's because it's light on resources.
(I'm working in a VM.)

jrg
yeah, much lighter than unity
anyway, i'm off to bed now. ttyl guys

ah, VM. ok then
good night @jrg

2:31 AM
I love the new single-window mode for the Gimp.

Great answer: How do I disable mouse magnet on middle edge with multi monitors? http://askubuntu.com/questions/109338/how-do-i-disable-mouse-magnet-on-middle-edge-with-multi-monitors/122777?atw=1#122777 #unity

I can see that my work is cut out for me right away - the Debian packaging is a mess.
Let's see if it compiles.
/usr/include/gimp-2.0/libgimp/gimpexport.h:23:2: error: #error "Only <libgimp/gimpui.h> can be included directly."
/usr/include/gimp-2.0/libgimp/gimpexport.h:58:1: error: unknown type name ‘GtkWidget’
/usr/include/gimp-2.0/libgimp/gimpexport.h:61:1: error: unknown type name ‘GtkWidget’
/usr/include/gimp-2.0/libgimp/gimpexport.h:61:57: error: unknown type name ‘GtkWidget’
I guess not.

Hmm does merging questions notify the OP of the original question?

It... works?

Mouse, what the..
hi @HackToHell what are you up to?

@jokerdino I added this room to my favourites and it seemingly autojoins favs

that makes sense.

gimp-webp is back in business and now built for Quantal.

3:37 AM
That's a lot of memory.

I have slightly less than that.
OK. slightly might be an overestimate.
I have about 140 GB free of 320 GB.

No, no, no - you're getting memory mixed up with storage space.

oh oh oh. I get it.

1 hour later…
5:06 AM
Nice map of linux kernel makelinux.net/kernel_map

5:28 AM
Hello all
@jokerdino LXDE here..

Nice
gnome-fallback is different though. It is not actively developed.

Can you answer this? How to run a cron job that relies on .Xauthority? http://askubuntu.com/questions/62386/how-to-run-a-cron-job-that-relies-on-xauthority?atw=1 #gui

No, I'm on XFCE
IN a VM its best to have lxde
@jokerdino Did you ever see dbz ?

what's that?

dragon ball z?

5:40 AM
Never did.

anyways hi :) and happy cinco di mayo (don't know spelling :P)

How many Sayins would It take to screw in a lightbulb?

1st of all u won't need a lightbulb when there is a saiyan around :P

Yeah

I guess they glow themself

5:43 AM
When they are super, they do
Or they can project an energy ball
Here Goes

if there are any lightbulbs they will blow up instead of glowing up

Only one sayin, it would take 3 episodes
and Krillin will die in the process
LOL
Goku Took like 2 episodes to go SSJ3
I actually have a video of me doing a kamehameha

ohh totally
I wouldn't be surprised if they need to call power of people to screw the lightbulb

Genki Dama!

heh
looking at my collusion graph only after visiting few number of sites I'm scared

5:49 AM
hi guys! is it possible to install 11.10 after 12.04 (keeping them both)

Install in a new partition

What is doubleclick.net -- every site reports to it
@Prasad: dual boot?
then yea new partition

@Prasad Yeah
SuperCollidoBoot

@jokerdino doesn't it replace the existing 12.04 grub

@Prasad That is not a problem

5:51 AM
replacing grub is no big deal

well u have 1 grub in any case

a sudo update-grub will fix it

if u want 12.o4 grub then replace 11.10 grub

@jokerdino I'm going to move my WUBI 10.10 root to a dediacted one :-) is it possible

yeah
13
Q: How to convert Wubi install into regular install?

ShubhI have installed Ubuntu on my D: partition using Wubi. Is there any way in which I can remove my Windows from C: drive and move my existing Ubuntu installation to C: drive and make it a regular install.

5:55 AM

his hair went all blonde, doesn't that make him a super saiyan?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! hi @aking1012
I'll give a try and come, I kicked win7 out of my hard disk! bye see ya

@aking1012 Yeah
Its SSJ2

ohh in that case make it 5 episodes :P

@wisemonkey +1

6:03 AM
I have just found a bunch of "move wubi to a real partition" questions.

by the end of DBGT -- it was worth watching a season in half an hr and still u won't miss a thing

@jokerdino dupe de dupe fire yer close botes
@wisemonkey I didn't watch GT :/

@jokerdino grrr. it's not like there's not one with a good answer

It didn't air

ohh I downloaded :P

6:05 AM
In fact, Cartoon Network stopped airing it at about when Goku and Vegeta got trapped inside buu

@aking1012 i found your answer in one of those questions :P

did you :)

 Ubuntu Regulators

Report evil (or more likely, dupe) questions here for closure....

i think AU needs an IVR or tele-prompt type menu before it gets to the ask a question page...
does your question deal with grub?
passwords?
black-screens?
failure in upgrade?
wubi?

@AmithKK if u want just download them, but I would suggest don't waste ur time :P
@aking1012: u still get number of similar questions, users should pay more attention to them

6:08 AM
@aking1012 and then throw them out :D
i wonder how many are duplicates and bugs out there.

since release, it has probably been 15% or more if you count the ones that have been closed already

@aking1012 Press one for Passwords, Press two for blank screens, press 3 for grub Hangs Up

Yeah, and they do have the magic similar question bar...people just don't read it

It probably has to do with how the forums work. They suggest creating a new thread than reusing the old one..

that's possible i guess.

6:15 AM
Get The Logs!

how can we better identify duplicate questions?
and get to the bugs questions as well.

use the lp api?

no...that's not related i don't think amith

Yeah

as we go up in terms of traffic, our answer rate is going down. And that is to be expected, kinda.

6:17 AM
Whenever a body of a question is submitted, it does a rough lp search and if its similar it says
"The question your asking might be a bug. <link>"

too expensive no?

Fire the cleanup week

cleanup is only for unanswered questions. :P

I'll invite jon skeet to learn ubuntu and start answering?

I wonder if we can catch all the dupes if we go through /review more regularly?

6:20 AM
i doubt that...but it's a good idea
i just think there's probably a way to one pass regex questions for bug category. there are going to be falses, but if i grepped all the current questions from the last month for black, screen; blank, screen; no, video, 12.04, mysql upgrade; >=85% of those would be bugs.

that would be fun haha

sorry, our robot suspects your post was a bug. please read how do i submit a bug and the faq. if you feel your question was not a bug, please request it be reopened. thank you. love HAL9000

need to know, is it possible to install 10.10 on the 12.04 disk?

Definitely there are more than four questions closed as off topic

is it good to resize 12.04 disk and use it to install 10.10 ?

6:29 AM
why install 10.10?
stick with something that is supported.

@jokerdino I got 12.04 too, but can't loose 10.10, it's my first stable ubuntu version and most of the effects made it like heaven

you can create a new partition and install 10.10 there

@jokerdino Is it me or has Oli and Stefano not come here for a very long time?

Oli does once in a while. But Stefano is MIA

:'( I've been missing all the fun here..

6:39 AM
There is no fun in here.

good UGT morning!!

I hate all the unmet dependencies question

@jokerdino i remember u once said.. I have a web-based game, AskUbuntu. And to me, its the same.

Hi good morning @Mahesh
problem, 4 primary partitions, can't add new partitions, what should I do?

6:42 AM
@Mahesh I don't play game for fun. Only for refreshment :P

@jokerdino At least one of those was kind of legit since it was a package that was in onieric that didn't get a version bump for precise.

@Prasad you can not have more than 4 primary partitions.

@Mahesh then can't I create a extended one too?

can u delete an existing primary partition, and create an extended partition?

@aking1012 Out of 200 questions...

6:43 AM
Extended counts as a primary.
and an extended partition can have many 'logical' partitions in it
(never tested the limit)
@jokerdino so many unmet dependencies errors!!

what should I do?

does anyone smell a bug?

i'm sure a ton of them are already resolved. imagemagick on 10.04 for example...

Do we have a canonical question to sort out these type of questions?

6:47 AM
/dev/sda8 is there right? so wats your problem? you can install into it, or replace it with a set of smaller partitions and install into one of them

@Mahesh noop, sda3

ok, alot of it is used, so try shrinking it.
umm... can we have two os on a single partition???

@aking1012 how do i look for unanswered questions? i can't seem to figure that part out.

that button disappeared...

lol i mean unanswered "unmet dependencies" questions

6:50 AM
@jokerdino hasaccepted:0 will return unanswered questions

@Mahesh then shrinking it makes 12GB unallocated space, I right click on it and click ADD, then i.stack.imgur.com/JqJXH.png

that will return unaccepted questions.

technically, unaccepted and unanswered are same, right?

unaccepted = OP has not accepted
unanswered = no answer with at least one upvote

@jokerdino answers:0 works.

6:53 AM

@Prasad extend sda2 to contain this free space, and then, you can make a new partition

@Mahesh works kinda
Looks like I need a break. I am turning more and more grumpy.

@jokerdino you can do it with tags...if you wrote a script to retag all those, it would be easy

@Mahesh is it impossible to install two OSs in the same partition as you said before?

hmm is it? never wrote a script myself..

6:55 AM
i mean once you have the script, you have a button. it's how i handle the eclipse tag

@jokerdino try experimenting with this..

@aking1012 waiting for you to write one :)

@Prasad May not be impossible exactly, but theres no way i know of, or ever heard of

can I try it!!!!!

@jokerdino someone got lazy, and i fear competition.. :|

6:58 AM
dude.. I am so lazy I stopped eating Oranges because I was lazy to peel it off.

@aking1012 Uh

mmm guys, don't we need at least 10 reputation to enter AU general room?

@jokerdino just cut it in half and eat it with a spoon

We don't have write support in the API
@Prasad 20 to talk, 1 to enter

@AmithKK you don't need the api of you drive a web-browser :)

6:59 AM
@Prasad you need not even be registered to enter. u need 20 rep to 'talk' here

@aking1012 i need a knife eh

@aking1012 Hmm.. Cant find the steering wheel

amith, write a browser script!

[the steering wheel][1]
[1]: http://pypi.python.org/pypi/selenium

@AmithKK just to correct, none to enter.

7:01 AM
@AmithKK thanks, I'll come back later, bye guys Bye @aking1012

He likes pinging you all the time @aking haha

have you ever met someone who keeps away from ubuntu coz its orange???

Stereotypical person. Ubuntu is not orange.

I've met a few, and the most recent one, yesterday...

Did you print a new ubuntu label in grayscale for them?

7:03 AM
LOL ^^ that would work

theres not much choice with colors and customizations in Unity i believe....
@aking1012 LOL I've promised that i'll get him a 'green' or 'blue' ubuntu and he promised he'll use it.. :D

the only orange in my UI is highlights. that can all be changed in the theme CSS. the only thing I haven't figured out changing is the desktop highlight box

yeah, change the theme and it won't be orange anymore.
Adwaita makes it blue.

neat. so that's in the CSS too...just have to find it

He wants the highlights changed, and the icon theme changed too. I've tried a few icon themes, none was appealing.
@aking1012 Where do I find the theme CSS??

7:07 AM
@Mahesh just change the GTK+ theme?

/usr/share/themes/themename/ default is Ambiance. I made a copy and edit the copy.
@jokerdino is way easier though

hmm... I'm no geek here.. clear instructions appreciated... :|

Change CSS or GTK+ theme?

abt changing the GTK+ theme..

7:10 AM
yeah. gtk3 doesn't use gtkrc files any more. it's just css

CSS, I'll manage with the little I know.. should be easy.

just use ubuntutweak or myunity. it was easy enough for me to tweak themes, but i'm not up for a tutorial

and I've seen someone mentioning they style their documents with CSS, is it worth the pain? and how would i do it?

my opinion, all documents should be xhtml and skinned with CSS...to include resumes

So far, I've used CSS sparingly and that too, only with HTML, to write web pages....

7:12 AM
it's works basically the same. there are differences in the standard, but it's functionally very similar

ok, any idea how can i try it out?

try what out?
@lazyPower - if you're around ... check this out blogs.gnome.org/alexl/2011/03/15/gtk-html-backend-update

@jokerdino Thanks.. :) didn't notice it. Blame slow net
try styling documents with CSS.. how would i implement it, without writing HTML??
and just to mention, HTML is not my favourite

@Mahesh You are going to end up on aking's list. watch out :p

wow
gtk3 in a browser?
:-?

7:18 AM
@Mahesh you'ld need to use some form of html or xml to style it that way

@jokerdino i didn't quite get you.. is aking a fan/devotee/whatever-you-wish-to-call of HTML?

@lazyPower yeah, awesome

@Mahesh CSS styles a DOM. Without HTML you have no DOM to decorate.

^---this

@Mahesh ignore list..

7:19 AM
he's not just complaining or using circular logic and exclamation points

lol....

I want to star that!!!

@Mahesh it has nothing to do with fan or devotee of Markup Languages. If you want to style something it has to have an element to decorate. CSS targets things using targeted element/class/ID combination. Without the heirchy of a document, you cannot achieve this. Even modern word processors apply some form of DOM for ease of parsing by their styling tools. and just to keep aking happy !!!!

ok, i can bear html and xml if thats really worth it.

:-( it won't let me create a logical partition, I deleted a primary one, help :-(

7:21 AM
the same way i started using latex, and finally got rid of all else when i became a lil familiar with it.

HTML is totally worth it.

@Prasad I'm not a geek when it comes to manipulating partitions on linux, and somehow i dont trust any tool out there. I've messed up quite a bit (mis)using those.

Developers. The ones who make things work. Yoda 8bit. EPIC

Developers, make things work they do. <--might have been more appropriate given the 8bit image

7:24 AM
haha

@lazyPower looks like a js under work, similar to impress.js or jmpress.

@Mahesh yes of course, that's what happened to my old 80GB hard disk :-( it burned

@Mahesh its Impress.js

I'll try windows, bye

:) tried without much luck in using it. was too lazy to write the full-html.

7:26 AM
its just a div layer with 3 coordinate points, and a degree of rotation.

@Prasad Did i mention that i recovered every single bit of data each time i messed things up, and eventually solved my problem?
why do all fancy effects not display properly in firefox?
when all web-kit based browsers are good at that?

You should totally try IE6.
People still use IE6, btw - ie6countdown.com

let us never speak of this again
stares at jokerdino

lol.... ok, i was referring to chrome, chromium and epiphany

lol sorry :P

7:31 AM
thats almost deserving of TEP's famous quote "I will burninate that"
burninates IE6

@Mahesh renders fine in FF for me...

<- hates when slow connection makes things un usable

how do i rewrite a setup.bash into setup.py so i can create a deb package? any tips?
nvr mind, it looks ugly.
I have to create a binary for Facebook-notifier
If you are interested - launchpad.net/fbuntu

that's neat-ish. and you wouldn't be translating that. you'ld be writing a basic setup.py and taking all the messing about with icons and what-not and move that into a separate install task. grab the source for lenstoggle if you're wondering how i did it

looking for src for lenstoggle

7:45 AM
you should be able to get the deb-src from there

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be that easy.
Yours is just a python script right?
This one has a couple of them. Makes me a little dizzy

a python module + a python script + an icon

sobs

mine's just organized in directories instead of a flat directory with everything and a script
@jokerdino is there a reason you need to debianize it?

yeah i want to PPA it for him.

7:54 AM
Woah
99 new mesages
@lazyPower Yep
My openGL still doesn't work

it'll work when they fix the driver for legacy support

Dropping the project for now because I lack the skills.

@AmithKK yep what?

@jokerdino I lacked the skills 2 weeks ago...then I read a bunch of documentation

gtk3 in a browser.
@aking1012 hmm i think i need to learn python a little more thoroughly
A mentor would be nice.

8:03 AM
here's a simple python setup.py example i put together for someone else that was asking github.com/aking1012/pyeggtut/tree/master/tutorial

Hello sensei!
I would also like to join this python class

i'm by no means equipped to masterfully teach python. i just have a decent grasp of how to use it.

set up a new chat room. We are coming!
@aking1012 what goes in the packages part?

those are your folders/subfolders
python thinks of folders and files as namespaces, so they're kind of like packages. not in the ubuntu package sense, but kind of...

8:24 AM
Is it possible to run two versions of Ubuntu side by side on a single Machine using wubi? http://askubuntu.com/questions/132480/is-it-possible-to-run-two-versions-of-ubuntu-side-by-side-on-a-single-machine-us?atw=1 #desktop

@jokerdino i took another look at it to at least get the folders oranized and what-not. he needs to find a better way to do the auth part so you can call it without having to be root and edit the module globally.

well yeah. I was looking hard at it.
I am at the point of giving up.

like he should read the auth URL from a file in ~/.fbuntu. the module should still live in site-packages though

did you try the setup.bash file? Does it actually work?

no, i didn't try it. i'm going on the assumption that the code isn't broken out of the box

8:29 AM
I don't think it is broken. I had it installed manually without using the setup.bash file.
I am on the verge of getting a headache. Must change to something else now.

I think the directory structure should look like this: sendspace.com/file/d9uhrs
I didn't debianize it or fix how auth works, but it's a start for you

8:55 AM
@aking1012 Thanks. I will take a look.
Who went on a starring spree??

idk...but i think if you look at how i set up the debian folder for lenstoggle along with that tar.gz and the debian python packaging docs you should be in good shape
