12:32 AM
Hello?

12:51 AM
@DeathMagus hi

1:12 AM
Hey there
Anyone?

Hi @JuanDavidCastillo
feels like I'm responding to bots (who are checking every now and then) :P

<-- is not a bot. Hi

jrg
1:31 AM
howdy @wisemonkey, I be a bot.

ohh good :) hey guys
e1 knows @jrg: is a huge bot

jrg
I AM JRG, BOT AND MASTER OF ALL THINGS UBUNTU*

*: Just make sure it's not related to a nvidia or broadcom card, Unity, package management, Python, Perl or compiling.

@jrg lolz

haha
can we roll back particular set of updates?
without internet connection

@jrg I want to revert a partial dist-upgrade because I unplugged my laptop ;) - kidding

jrg
1:46 AM
UGH IM GOING TO HUNT BOTH OF YOU DOWN. ;)
Ok, question for you guys: I'm going to set up a private subnet for 4 physical boxes, + 2 VMs each (on average). so about 10 devices on it, if I go nuts/expand a little bit.
What kind of router should I get? it needs wifi.
AKA, linksys or something else?

I'm generally a fan of anything supported by openWRT and DDWRT

jrg
Ok.

I'm using E4200 and it is awesome :D
but most of linksys supports ww/open wrt

@wisemonkey negative...not the recent ones
It has to end in L to be supported

yea since cisco bought :P
yea I used wr54L few years back

1:55 AM
Reason being(on why I like dd/open-wrt): the wireless stack (if you flash it) is exactly the same as the linux wireless stack without any "vendor tweaks". Read as 0 inter-op bugs...at least so far for me. Plus neat features if you get one with a big enough chunk of memory.
@wisemonkey they started stripping the memory size on the L series then too

askubuntu.com/questions/132668/… - can we delete this question? I helped solve the OP's problem

@aking1012 ahh ok

@jokerdino - have you had any progress with that packaging thing?

2:10 AM
not much, because I don't know what I should be doing.
So I went back to learning python so I could use some of those

jrg
so a older linksys
ok, i guess i'll look for one
hm. puppet is so weird when setting up the whole client-server relationship.

i'm googling about to see if i can find a suitable one with N support

jrg
or rather, master and agent
@aking1012 oooh, that'd be cool

Hi good morning all! can anyone tell me how to use 12.04's grub instead of 10.10's grub boot loader?

Bounty offered: How to access second disk locally and over LAN http://askubuntu.com/questions/125964/how-to-access-second-disk-locally-and-over-lan?atw=1 #networking

2:16 AM
@jrg It's a little more expensive than a $20 wal-mart router, but it gets you loads of features and it's flashable with the full feature set: google.com/products/…

jrg
@aking1012 Sweet, i'll take a look.
hm, no gigabit. a little disappointing, but not a deal breaker.

valid point. if I needed Gigabit, I'ld get a refurb commercial switch and tack that on to the hardware to be acquired list
if you're buying the router from a vendor you can get on the phone, make sure to check the FCC-ID against the one on the dd-wrt supported hardware page. they've done some funny things with trying to push DRM/flash protection in to their routers. I have a couple 'Extra' routers laying around b/c I failed to do this once.

2:43 AM
yay, i wrote my palindrome program in python
with a bit of my own improvements.

3:14 AM
@jokerdino neat. another way to handle that a little more efficiently would be to use try/except/raise so the first non-matching value causes it to break out of the loop ... I'm not being critical. Good job.

interesting. let me learn about them

3:26 AM

@aking1012 heh thanks

now if you want to get fancy, add it as a method to the string class named is_palindrome() and return true or false

3:43 AM
just a question, does it break immediately after it raises the exception?

yes. if you want to test that, add an iterator and a print i at the end so you can see how many times it tried the loop

3:55 AM
ok now i understand. it breaks as soon as they don't match
hey @ajmitch Are you at UDS already?
oh wait, it starts today!
@aking1012 i am lost, how do i do that?

@jokerdino yes I am, sitting just across from @MarcoCeppi

have fun there!
don't forget to tweet what you had for Lunch
@chan always says that ^

class my_str(str):
def is_palindrome(self):
a_string = self.lower()
length = len(self)
for i in range(length/2):
if a_string[i]!=a_string[-(i+1)]:return False
return True

this = my_str('assa')
print this.is_palindrome()

@jokerdino sure...

4:19 AM
@aking1012 ok made it work and understood the program as well.

good deal

wait, for some reason, barb is flagged as true

you have an indentation error

yep you are right
I wonder what I can do now..

4:56 AM
Come on RAID....come on...

Hello all

hi

Heya @aking1012
How are you?

5:11 AM
did you send her the link to AU? --v :(

Why would i?
and even if i did, she can't access in her office right now. restricted Internet
@aking1012 would the AU answer work if she is using Unix?

some of the tools might support the filesystem in use. i didn't realize it was unix not linux

5:35 AM
found this!

Can you answer this? Ubuntu 11.10 shut down stuck http://askubuntu.com/questions/95730/ubuntu-11-10-shut-down-stuck?atw=1 #shutdown

Q: Resolution set too low on startup, solutions do not work

cntrationalAfter installing natty, my resolution is being set to 1024x768 instead of the proper 1368x768. The Monitors program doesn't allow me to set my resolution higher. I looked around for a solution, and I found instructions on using xrandr to set a new resolution: xrandr --newmode "1368x768_60.00" ...

any solution for this?

11:49 AM
@jokerdino I give up :P

come on!

i don't know a whole lot about programming but have successfully built several packages from source in ubuntu...
but I really want to build chromium-browser

well done

unfortunately it does not have a .configure file

why are you doing so?

11:52 AM
i should mention that my need to build software has been because im running ubuntu on a powerpc
and it is not available in the repos
but building from source has allowed me to get around that speed bump until today
trying apt-get -b source chromium-browser almost worked

that is a nice whatever it is @AmithKK

good luck Joshua.

Thats the new pangolin logo

my question is ... where is the .configure file?

12:09 PM
@AmithKK Pangolin?? It's quetzal
@JoshuaRobison gyp. The cross-platform build configuration system is called gyp, and on Linux it generates Makefiles. Running gyp is analogous to the ./configure step seen in most other software.

@jokerdino :P
@jokerdino Going to the uds?
LOL
That was the 4500200'th message

Remotely perhaps
Would you like fries with that?

Q: Using Pidgin with Empathy themes?

Amith KKEmpathy's "Ubuntu" Theme Is quite attractive. Is there any way of using empathy themes on pidgin(specifically the Ubuntu Theme)?

12:33 PM
@amith my bluetooth doesn't work. it says it is disabled.

@AmithKK why should it?
the only time i used the "real" logo was precise, because i cannot draw anything that looks like a pangolin. ;)
@jokerdino today isn't that interesting to me (except for the evening sessions, which i cannot listen to, because i need a couple of hours sleep a day :D)

very well then
i just noticed that my bluetooth doesn't work

everyone hates broadcam chipsets and bluetooth problems, sigh

@jokerdino I think the method of the solution is viable, but the why is wrong. If the driver and the hardware both try and remember state, then it's possible they could get out of sync. Sounds like a problem with binary drivers that aren't written horribly well(the binary component). It has happened to some wireless cards that get stuck hard-blocked. I didn't need to re-install the driver though.

@jokerdino yet they buy buy buy :P
i've seen such a problem too with a wireless adapter. without windows it would still be in some kind of deep sleep.

:'(
good bye Ubuntu. see you next time

jrg
@jokerdino nooooooooooooooo!

lol, i am going to do my homework.
