@aking1012 but why did it do this? i installed with sudo apt-get install geany geany-plugins like I have always done
and out of the box everything works on other pc's running 12.04

i wasn't saying there wasn't a bork in there somewhere. i was trying to get you moving towards functional. that's what matters imo

lol ok I figured it out.

Maybe upgrade with software raid was a bad idea?

I was looking on the wrong tab. tab titles are not the most intuitive with geany prefs.

In recovery I get "No filesystem could mount root, tried: ext3 ext4 fusebulk" then kernel panics

5:13 PM
ok now wth... geany refuses to show me hidden files?

hi @jrg

jrg
Hello @aking1012

Does the normal install support upgrading install on raid, or do I need the alternate install for that?

UGT morning e1 :)

jrg
@KyleBrandt I don't know... i think you might need to use the alternative disk

5:23 PM
Where does the grub menu live these days?
Overview is that I have /dev/sda1 with the boot partition, and /dev/md0 with a broken upgrade on it
Wondering if I can finish the upgrade somehow
If I attempt to install from livecd, maybe it will find the broken install and try to finish it?

jrg
It might

@KyleBrandt /boot/grub/grub.cfg

There a log somewhere of the attempted upgrade?

jrg
Depends, how did you do the upgrade?

Via the gui

5:31 PM
Two 12.04 versions on one machine. Cant access data http://askubuntu.com/questions/130166/two-12-04-versions-on-one-machine-cant-access-data?atw=1 #upgrade

Looking at my /dev/md0 mount from an older install, /boot is empty

jrg
ew, there's your problem. Check /var/log/dpkg.log, that should have some details

in the root there, the symlinks for initrd and vmlinuz are bad
Just a bunch of status / configure

jrg
interesting, might be worth asking on the site

anyone got any clue as to why my geany is effed up?

jrg
5:49 PM
@rlemon because its an old outdated version, and you should totally use trunk for geany?

Q: Recover Broken Upgrade to 12.04

Kyle BrandtI tried to update to 12.04 via the update manager and towards the tail end of the upgrade process (installing and configuring packages) the update failed and the computer restarted. By going into a livecd, I can mount /dev/md0 and see my previous installation. The /boot folder is empty and vmlin...

jrg
ok, based off of what I see there, it might be possible to walk blind through a chroot and finish the upgrade

isn't 0.21 the latest

@jrg: Have a link for that?

jrg
5:52 PM
@KyleBrandt Unfortunately not. Mainly because I haven't written that answer yet. I'll see if I can squeeze it in here in a moment or two

@rlemon it's the latest tha tI have

@MarcoCeppi and are you able to see hidden files?

yes
I just press Ctrl+H

ctrl+h in nautilus ... ctrl+h in geany is search/replace

@rlemon then you've got something wrong
Oh, I use Ctrl+H in the Open Dialog
I don't use that thing on the left

5:54 PM
part of the geany-plugins pack.
plugins.geany.org TreeBrowser

Yeah, I don't use TreeBrowser

i'll try removing and installing again...

jrg
try that
it should work

Then from there I hopefully can boot into the OS and and finish the install?
(Also, probably will need to tell the bootloader about this new kernel somehow, that is on /dev/sda)

BBT

6:01 PM
Running apt-get -f install first since wouldn't do the kernel without that

Q: How can I run my own scripts on kate 3.8.2? External tools isn't available on plugins section

GarouDanHow can I run my own scripts on kate 3.8.2? Looks like the old plugin named External tools isn't available anymore. -- I would like run Python or Shell scripts on kate and call them using a shortcut, F4, for example. A simple script example (written below) could be change to a specific window...

6:15 PM
ohh this is weird gmail thinks my mail server is spam while yahoo doesn't :-/

jrg
@KyleBrandt yes, if you do it right you should be able to

btw anyone upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 -- while using gnome-shell? I wanna give it a try but not sure if it gonna break anything

Does installing the kernel find grub and add an entry for it?

I wanted to upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 from the terminal but didn't have the chance :P

have a nice day, everyone!

6:18 PM
I don't see why it wouldn't work though since the GUI version shows you the terminal output while doing it.
later

yup but have too many extra repositories working need to resolve them first

@jrg: Installing the kernel fails
Could not find image /boot/vmlinuz...

@wisemonkey I didn't read all of your posts but did you get that project SMTP thing to work?

@ruffEdgz yea I did :)
had to remove sendmail completely

oh wow, good to know :P
glad its working

6:28 PM
yup \m/ though gmail thinks I'm a spammer (cause my IP is dynamic? )

maybe... I don't know much about how their mail spamming works
I know its ever changing

@ruffEdgz, finally made it
pheeefff

@Dave huh? Sorry, I was away for a lot longer then I expected

my problem with touchpad
For all the guys who got this issue follow this commands:

1. Open terminal and run this command
synclient HorizHysteresis=72 (you can add whatever value you want to test the behavior of your touchpad, for me 72 is fine)
synclient VertHysteresis=72 (you can add whatever value you want to test the behavior of your touchpad, for me 72 is fine)

2. Create a file by typing this into terminal:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(this will create a xorg.conf file in etc/X11)

3. Edit the file by adding:
I posted it there

awesome!

6:34 PM
that was the way to create that xorg file
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

good to know. I was thinking about the xorg.conf file but since you found that article about /usr/share/xorg.conf.d/ part, I was more interested in using that ;)

far as I read all those file are overwritten by xorg
xorg is something as primary... donno how to explain :D
so the best method is using xorg.conf as can be overwritten by other files...

yep, that makes sense

@ruffEdgz yea I'm asking people to add me to their not spam list :P
lunch time brb :)

Sounds like a good idea @wisemonkey.
have fun!

6:56 PM

7:11 PM

Q: Recover many files using ntfsundelete

Mild FuzzI am using the following command to scan for deleted files: sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 -S 400m-20g -p 100 How can I restore the all of the results? Q: Unity on Both Screens with Dual Monitors

Kyle BrandtAfter going to 12.04 the unity launcher now appears on both of my screens. I have screens configured as one large desktop, so I only want unity on one of the monitors. How can I configure this?

WANT ALL THE REPPP

Hmm... VPN isn't replacing the nameservers, only appending
That is annoying

I'd say this vpn thing is a bug, where would I file that?

Q: How do I report a bug?

andrewsomethingI found a problem with a application on Ubuntu. How do I best report the issue? What sort of information should I provide?

@KyleBrandt I'm really not sure which package would be responsible for that though

Network manager I guess

libnm-glib-vpn1 is the only package with VPN in it's name
but networking manager would probably be a good start, they can move it from there

Can you answer this? How can I adjust the resolution to avoid the damaged area on my screen? http://askubuntu.com/questions/89147/how-can-i-adjust-the-resolution-to-avoid-the-damaged-area-on-my-screen?atw=1 #resolution

8:28 PM
so close to 7-digit bugs

And still no smooth video :-(
Mediabox with hardware accel works well
Desktop is all choppy though

I've had smoother video on my laptop with free drivers than with proprietary ones

Could try the free ones I guess, are the free ATI ones better?

yeah, that's what I was using
they're slower for 3D though

8:44 PM
3D as in unity, or just.. whatever in Linux uses 3d

unity was fine, it was games that I noticed the slowdown :)
& also it ran a bit hotter, radeon power management isn't as good by default as fglrx

Will try it and see

of course it could depend on what hardware you have as well :)

Muuuch better

9:33 PM
it's a bit smoother now?

jrg
@KyleBrandt Yeah, +1 for the free ATI drivers. That's what I've been using.

9:55 PM
Anyone know how to fix this?

10:48 PM
@GeorgeEdison best to ask in #bzr on freenode

Ah I think I have got it fixed now.

11:12 PM
@GeorgeEdison does SA work like normal?
I don't see my rep showing in it

Where's your account?

google
Oh btw I should mention I'm on 1.6

11:33 PM
@RolandTaylor Ooooh.
I thought SA == Stack Apps :P
I was very confused for a minute there.
The new version of StackApplet doesn't show rep. anymore.
It's still in development.
