?

@Mochan >_<

@AmithKK Yo Amith
I'm learning to cook and being a good wife (in training)
Hahahuh

6:22 AM
@Mochan Good Luck
@Mochan (Hint: Install Debian while cooking to discover new recipies)
4

Hm... good tip. Cooking skill increased by 600000000000000000000000

It actually works :P

Cooking is boring ;__;

Ask @Takkat
@Mochan Then make a robot to cook :P

Looks like someone is done with his work :P

6:24 AM
@jokerdino :? I can't read the terminal on this :P
Still shipping

Ah alright.
When are you going on vacation?

Tommorrow Evening

@AmithKK A robot programmed using Cola

YPR Express

@AmithKK So, that would be your deadline on setup.py and the debian bzr branch.
^_^

6:26 AM
Yeah
Also, I can use 3g to help :P
I have 2GB

@AmithKK so Debian is good, then?

@Mochan Oh of course

i can do the source recipe bit. don't worry on that. i just need the debianizing and the install script :P

:P
Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) or Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) is a software package produced by Microsoft which provides a Unix subsystem and other parts of a full Unix environment on Windows NT and some of its immediate successor operating-systems. It was an extension and replacement of the minimal Microsoft POSIX subsystem from Windows NT. SFU 1.0 and 2.0 (NT 4.0 and Windows 2000) used the MKS Toolkit; starting with SFU 3.0 (Windows XP; 1999), SFU used the Interix subsystem, which was acquired by Microsoft in 1999 from US-based Softway Systems as part of an asset acqui...
dafaq?

@AmithKK :DD I will try it on a VM

6:28 AM
People think VB is virtual basic. I used to call VBox as VB too.

(I changed it because in Australia, people call beer 'VB' (Victorian Bitters) and I read it weird :P)

Aye

So...
Discuss! :P

discuss what?

something

6:30 AM
G'DAY MATE! AYE WHY DON'CHA PUT SOME SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE! <--- Australian men

@Mochan XDDD

Note the grammar fail

Lets not make fun of them

I can make fun of them because I am one of them (that rhymed! :O)

@Mochan :P

6:31 AM
yeah, same word rhyme with each other.

You watch TBBT?

I don't speak like that, though. I speak like a "British man" so my Mother tells me T_T
@jokerdino ._.
@AmithKK No idea what that is

@Mochan if you speak like a man, there's something wrong about that

A better slogan for the galaxy camera would be "The Cam Era begins*

@AmithKK I watch tITC these days

6:33 AM
@AmithKK Oh The Big Bang Theory, do you mean?
@jokerdino ._.

Band XD
LMAO
Yeah @Mochan

Yeah I watch it. Not regularly. Why?

@Mochan just asking
@jokerdino Thailand International R/C Touring Car Championship?

o.O

@AmithKK Hahaha OK. XD
@AmithKK O__O

Oh! Merry Christmas Eve to you all!

i meant the british sitcom

@Mochan Same to you

Merry Xmas Eve.

@AmithKK Is it Christmas Eve in India yet~?

6:36 AM
Yeah

it's Dec 24 Noon.

12:06

@jokerdino No. Not **X**mas. **Christ**mas. Naughty. Don't offend the idiotic Catholic girl
5:36PM here

Christmas=="No school for one week"
I don't really keep track

@AmithKK One week?!
6 weeks here...

6:40 AM
It's like 6 weeks for christian schools

6 weeks for all schools in Australia
Sometimes more.

hm

Well, you don't have Navaratri holidays
or Diwali Holidays

True for both of those things. What is duration of the Navaratri and Diwali holidays?

a week each IIRC

6:42 AM
Yeah, what @jokerdino said

=__=

But Navaratri is usually longer
as it is after our mid term exam
And then we do have all the other festivals

Lucky~ are we talking about Univeristy or High School?

and not to mention bandhs
@Mochan High School

@AmithKK Then we have 3 weeks holiday every semester >:D

6:44 AM
@Mochan :)

Why are we not talking about unscheduled holidays due to monsoon season?

Ship Faster Blue Dart ;)
@jokerdino Because we don't have those

oh

@AmithKK I will say that it is probably better to have less holidays anyway. I don't like having so much free time, actually. I'd rather be in India or in an Asian country where they actually work hard (most of the time, I'm assuming)

@Mochan riiiiiiiight

6:46 AM
@AmithKK No lies there.

@Mochan It is always greener on the other pasture.

@jokerdino That makes sense.
OK... maybe not.
:7398421 I think that was on the news here, actually.
All I see is (removed)

Cuz I deleted it

@smartboyhw will get angry if I swear

No one would care.

6:49 AM
That's a lie. I have been told off before ;_;
Anyway. I'll be back... soon-ish. My family is here for dinner, so I have to get off my ass. See you all soon~

@Mochan Have fun on the eve.

@Mochan cya

What does that even mean

7:23 AM

@AmithKK Your printer isn't working, it seems. Low paper?

lol

24/12/2012 10:35 On hold with LowPaper Undelivered Inscan(scan) TRINITY(printer?)

not a printer

7:24 AM
Waaaah ;_;
What is it, then?

@Mochan It's a place

he is tracking his package
possibly a monitor

Oh lol

XD
@jokerdino motherboard

@jokerdino Low Power? :D
@AmithKK ---^

7:26 AM
So, I am creating my key
the RSA key

I guess I want to learn how to package stuff

7:46 AM
o/

Sigh.... what to do about this answer...?
@Takkat Yo Takkat.

@jokerdino it took me two years to finally dive into packaging. I knew why.
Nice, easy looking recipies all around. But they have these nasty links like see here for more where you end up with tons of opened tabs in your browser. And tons of unanswered questions in your head.

lol
@AmithKK: I gave away something similar ;p
but the heatsink was nowhere near as beefy, stock crappy dell HS
intels heatsinks of the era were beefy
...
actually. I think its the dell version of the same motherboard

@JourneymanGeek they look as if the motherboard is capable to fly aways if not mounted properly to a heavy case.

no DVI though
@Takkat: mini ATX
@AmithKK: what're you planning to do with it?
@Takkat: you've never seen the horror thats a dell case
"Hdd bays? waste of money, lets punch some metal out the side of the case and mount the drives there"

8:02 AM
I had a case with a nice HDD bay. But the screwholes were wrong. You could only mount a drive with the cables coming out of the front panel (if you removed it).

8:17 AM
lol
@Takkat: this had them mounted through the bottom holes, sideways

Sounds like fingers bleeding from cuts when mounting the cables ;)

8:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek err.. use it?

8:54 AM
lol
gaming box, personal server, swiss army knife....

@JourneymanGeek I didn't read what you were replying to, and I was ... really confused XD

just my main pc

ahh
planning on adding a graphics card or just as is?

o`-`o

as is for now
afk again

2 hours later…
10:57 AM
Don't you just want to punch people in the face when they spell you 'u'?

u mad?

@htorque Yeah, pretty much

y u no relax for xmas?
:D

hey @htorque
@Takkat thanks for that link!

Q: Is it better to delete questions I've asked than to ask for them to be closed?

vasa1I've asked a couple of questions, here and here that haven't been answered after quite a while. I see no way to improve them. I have asked that they be closed. But, on reflection, would it be better to have them deleted? How does closing a question rather than deleting it affect AskUbuntu's stats?

1 hour later…
jrg
3:06 PM

3:21 PM
See @Mochan when you come, the fun begins! (just look over the chat history :P)

jrg
@iSeth: was it you who i was talking to about a git-based package manager?
might have been someone else.

@jrg no, I don't use git.... yet.
I think I was around for it though

jrg
ok

sounds like a cool idea, but isn't that what launchpad is for?

jrg
except it's way too complicated.

3:32 PM
@iSeth git and bzr are competing projects. launchpad and github are sort of like competing projects except that github is for everyone and launchpad is for ubuntu ppa only
that being said i say some interesting things with git and launchpad reciipes: blog.launchpad.net/cool-new-stuff/source-package-recipes

jrg
decentralize and simplify. the leading principles of life.
def xctools_fucked?

wow, the homebrew guys have descriptive names. :P
they must have been on too much of their homebrew.

i love seeing stuff like that it code. makes my day

jrg
ah, screw it. i'm just going to write my own package manager.

jrg
not worth the trouble of adapting the 10,000 behemoths that we call "ports", "pacman", or even homebrew.

3:35 PM
i made a variable that was supposed to contain the thing i was searching for allurbase. when it contained the thing i was searching for i fed it to a belongs_to_me function/method
@jrg you don't write the new package manager, you write the "adapter" that does most of the work. like alien

jrg
ugh, not worth the time imo.
just like 37 signals tossed rvm out the window and started from scratch with rbenv, time to toss homebrew out the window and start from scratch with something else.

that's fair if you just want to perform the tasks and don't care about version control just script it. i still like rvm personally, but i don't use it intensively so...

jrg
i use rbenv now, it just fits my mindset of "get out of my way". :P

to be fair, if rvm had never existed it might not have inspired rbenv

jrg
right
to be fair, if homebrew never existed, i wouldn't be looking at doing this right now.

3:42 PM
XD

jrg
although i'd be willing to fork homebrew from say, 2 years ago.
might do that.
or even a few months ago.

meh, never used homebrew. call me a purist

jrg
forking homebrew. :)
well, it's the same basic idea.

4:15 PM
ugh
need more things to do, what a boring day

4:27 PM
yeah, really.
nothing to do anymore :(
@MarcoCeppi I have an idea!! I'll go make some flags ;)

1 hour later…
5:55 PM
does anyone know what the unit of measure for distance in blender is? e.g. a model has coordinates. bge has "gravity" of 9.81. does this mean to be in proper scale for correct gravity effect 1 model coordinate unit should be one meter?
why is the blender stack site not in operation... :/

@jrg, oh that, XD
@jrg BTW this this question needs a little mod magic

jrg
6:13 PM
what kind of mod magic?

read the comments
the OP found the answer, but can't post it himself
of course he should be able to do it tomorrow, but I doubt he'll come back to check
@AbrahamVanHelpsing O_o why didn't I think of that... @jrg never mind I guess.

i just dumped a comment on there. if he doesn't come back somone will request the move a comment to an answer mod-magic

jrg
it's not mod magic.

mod privilege then

jrg
i copy the comment, paste into an answer, apply formatting, tick the community wiki box, answer, and then flag/delete the comment.

6:17 PM
heh. i didn't know if you could reparent. i've done it the other way before

jrg
nope. we don't have a tool that fun.

@jrg you don't?
awwwwwwwwwww

oh. "badblocks took to long. i quit the tool before it finished. how do i do it faster" - "wait for the tool to finish".

Q: how can i make a partition of bad sectors?

Thompsonis there a way to know where is the first and the last bad sector? i used badblocks but it was extremely slow, so i cancel, then i started again starting at sector 100,000,000, and no badsectors was found , so i think the bad sectors are only in a section of my hdd, so my idea is to, know where ...

i'm sorry if you are now disappointed in my ability to impress you with shiny things.

Q: Should the Restart Cinnamon from tty question be reopened or moved to the Unix and Linux StackExchange site?

EnkouyamiThe Restart Cinnamon from tty question should not have been locked for the reason "too localized" do to the fact that a large number Ubuntu users who have cinnamon installed may want to know how preform the desired action listed in the question. If you use a good search engine you'll see that tha...

Has anyone an idea why the close and flag buttons don't work? I'm using Firefox 17.0.1.

jrg
are you out of close and flags?
are you using noscript?

qbi
No, I'm just starting my Askubuntu-session and no noscript here.
argl, but Privoxy. It stopped them. Thanks. ;)

@jrg What does it take to get suspended? Do they have the rules somewhere or does it go by what the mods think? (just wondering)

jrg
FAQ, invalid voting, things like that.

hm, OK.

8:08 PM

@fossfreedom that was quick :/

8:24 PM
huh, interesting..
@jrg are you out of the hat race?

jrg
@iSeth maybe....

Santa ClausI'm new to GIS. I need some help in determining the best or most efficient route, using a flying sleigh, through all the houses in the world. @Mochan, Merry Chistmas to you too

9:18 PM
@david6 please don't add version specific tags for generic questions!

@JorgeCastro why not?
asking because you removed mine too

version specific tags are for hardware/version specific things
if there doesn't need to be a version on there that works on other versions there's no need to have one

OK, got it

it's just easier to keep questions maintained when they're generic
unix time hasn't changed in like 30 years, there's no reason to have a version tag on it, consolidating them all around makes the most sense.

@JorgeCastro - just to say - have a great hols. Many thanks for all of your great AU contributions this year. We mods (I'm sure I'm talking for all...) much appreciate it!

Q: What prewritten Pro-forma userscript comments can we use and share?

Octavian DamieanI'd like to gather a list of boilerplate comments for Ask Ubuntu which can be used in combination with the awesome Pro-forma comments userscript. Post suggestions too, you are not required to use the script. Please wrap your comments into a code-block for easier copying.

@AbrahamVanHelpsing oh, I see it now, I missed jrg's post.
thanks

jrg
my meta posts bring all the girls to my yard. er, something like that.

you're so funny @jrg

10:34 PM
@jrg since you gave your address out in pastebin, I guess it could :P

jrg
@iSeth huh?

secret smile Oh, you gave a link with your address out... I forget who you where talking to
Wow, three people out at once..

jrg
phone number, yeah.

no, address.
maybe it wasn't exactly yours...

jrg
oh, i gave out my work address.
no secret there.

10:38 PM
ah, OK...

jrg
just like how SE employees are in the "we work in new york office" category of the about page, and then they get the "one exchange plaza, new york, new york" address.

:)

jrg
@iSeth it worked.

i'm always skeptical of things that are 1 xyz st or abc-xyz-0001 you wouldn't believe how many apt/craigslist ads use that type of addressing/phone

sorta. I was trying to figure out a quote

@iSeth that's how you do that.

>like this
> like this
Okay

jrg
no, and yes.

and copy paste

@AbrahamVanHelpsing I was thinking about a quote from without the chat system.

jrg
you can also do that, but i was just grabbing a quote. yours was handy @AbrahamVanHelpsing. :P
