Dear moderators, you can probably ignore/reject my flag on the answer to this question: askubuntu.com/questions/89546/…
It reads like a comment posted as an answer, but after re-reading it, you could probably make the case that it's a real answer.
00:51
Heh... Stack Alert is on SoftPedia :)

Congrats on the growing popularity of your apps George

@MarcoCeppi Ok.
@GeorgeEdison That HTML document viewer looks shiny. Where can I get it?
I just made it :)
that is very nice indeed.
Thank you.
Does Chrome honor mailto: links?
jrg
jrg
yes.
It isn't working for me... just making sure it works for somebody.
jrg
jrg
02:03
well, the mailto:[email protected] link on the main site works, so I'd say it works.
works for me as well
all three major browsers, chrome ff and ie
Thanks.
Now for the print button... it works in everything but Opera.
jrg
jrg
well, who uses opera anyway?
02:23
I hope a lot of people :P
It's the next target for Stack Alert.
jrg
jrg
ok, you have an opera tester available.
I installed Opera... and I'm not happy that it pinned itself to my taskbar.
jrg
jrg
heh,

Lol, it did disturb me a bit though.

ugh, EULAs are so 2001
But Microsoft says applications aren't supposed to do that :P

iTunes EULA is really unelegant for a company that likes "elegant" things...
who cares about what M$ says, nobody pays attention to them anyway.
Can you answer this? Hide shortcuts in Dash Home on Unity http://askubuntu.com/questions/94395/hide-shortcuts-in-dash-home-on-unity #unity
Theres a fair amount of truth to that statement

I read them.
But I'm not your average home user :)
@jrg both

I see, and I know @GeorgeEdison.
The GPL is nice because you only have to read it once. Each new app that you install that uses it presents the same license content - and there's no sense in reading the same thing twice.
Of course, the GPL doesn't really cover usage at all, but rather distribution and modification.
jrg
jrg
BSD is better, its "do whatever the heck you want with this."
or is that the MIT? I can't remember.
although I do like this one, even though I haven't had the chance to really use it... - gist.github.com/904863
ehh, the BSD license still states that there is a governing organization/entity that retains the rights to reject any modifications. -- or maybe THAT is the MIT license...
03:25
@MarcoCeppi: You around?
Poor Om Nom. I feel so outdated.
gross
Why?
They want Win7 and IE - while i'm not directly opposed to win7, i do dislike IE
I find it interesting that you're using jolicloud though. How are you getting along with it?
03:48
Sees IE. Throws up...

@MarcoCeppi Hello.
I think the Chrome extension is ready now.
cool
I need a zip of the plugin directory (not the crx)
Can you answer this? How do I preseed a disk to 50% / and /tmp? http://askubuntu.com/questions/94280/how-do-i-preseed-a-disk-to-50-and-tmp #server
The plugin directory.
Okay....
Hope that's what you're looking for.
Have you done this
> An error occurred: Manifest should not have "update_url".
The icons?
I've created those.
Could you please remove the update_url line?
It was there so that Chrome would ping that URL for updates.
05:50
URL for the project?
you have a description/screenshot/video you want to put on it?
I have a screenshot.

Oh... specific resolutions.
One moment.
^--- That one's 640x400.
Will that work?
06:09
Yes, but

Oh, oops.
One moment.
Sorry about that.
Wow - thank you!
06:29
@MarcoCeppi: Future updates will use the same ID for the extension, right?
@GeorgeEdison correct, I would just upload the new zip file
Great, thanks.

@JorgeCastro If a user refers he would like (if possible) an answer from canonical are we free to tag the question with canonical or should the tag be used with caution?
not really
which question?
3
A: Which graphics driver set is better to test in the long run?

Bruno PereiraIf you want to help contributing to the further development and support of drivers for Ubuntu assigning, supporting and contributing for the fixing of bugs on both versions is the way to go, both are important but you need to differentiate between what is really in your hands. Closed driver mean...

Just downloaded Fennec
@BrunoPereira that's not really a canonical question, it's a QA question
but I can ask RAOF to look at the question
@JorgeCastro great, thx

12:32
@BrunoPereira ok so you got your answer. :)
Now help me spread the word!
3
A: Which graphics driver set is better to test in the long run?

RAOFAs one of the Ubuntu X maintainers I can say: testing on both the open-source and proprietary drivers is valuable; we have lots of users of both, and it's important the Unity runs well on both the free stack and the proprietary stack. However, if you want your testing to have the biggest impact,...

@JorgeCastro I've got the email that says I'm ready to publish
but the status is still "pending QA" on the dev page
YEAH LETS DO THIS
ok, give me 20 minutes

A: How to create launchers that open applications in a terminal?

jokerdinoTo create launchers that lets you open applications in terminal, you can try alacarte. First of all, you need to have alacarte installed. After installing it, open alacarte. On the right side, there would be an option to create a 'New item'. Click on it. When you click the button, a dial...

nice answer

One less unanswered question is all that matters.

@jokerdino Thats the spirit

@AmithKK omg I didn't see that
your latest revision of the community Ad for the G+ page is excellent
thank a lot, nice work!
@StefanoPalazzo That was @rlemon in the work :P
I just ported It to the 2012 page along with @jrg
Ah I see. Well thanks for that then :)
and nice work @rlemon, I like the ad
@StefanoPalazzo :D
eh, so who drew it?
13:03
BBL
The latest one was from me, but I simply imposed the AU logo on the Stack Exchange Google+ ad
@StefanoPalazzo thanks :)
I see. still awesome :)
am I posting messages?
it says timeout on all of them (here in the chat)
You are
I loved the other one too, I just thought it would look more streamlined if it mimic'd the SE G+ ad
IIRC @rlemon has done quite a few of the ads
Hi all, are there any local settings that I need to configure to allow telnet traffic to be received? Any programs I need to install or any services that I need to enable? I'm getting this error when connected to a remote host:

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused
13:07
@sadmicrowave what port are you telneting to?
2626
just an arbitrary port
I have a python program listening on that port
where did the other one go?
but at this point I'm just trying to prove that the problem is on my corporate router
first off it is worth noting that telnet localhost 2626 works fine
@sadmicrowave can you confirm that the machine actually has that port open?
I always forget how to confirm that....:[
13:10
uh, it's some netstat command
I always forget what flags to use
I think -l -n
@MarcoCeppi
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:2626 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
Oky, so it's listening
@StefanoPalazzo ok so the status is wrong
it's going into extras
@StefanoPalazzo #ubuntu-arb if you want the real time detail
I have people standing by!
13:15
everything is pending QA
iirc QA is never happy.
absolutely
(worked 5 years as a sqa)
@StefanoPalazzo oh hey, for precise there's been some minor changes to the API
Compiled my first java program on Ubuntu!!
@StefanoPalazzo but congrats, you are in!
You are basically the first person to make it through
13:17
oh nice!
@StefanoPalazzo david tells me it's in extras
the web site is just wrong
@MarcoCeppi any other ideas?
ok so am I crazy or does chromium and chrome save sessions differently.
@sadmicrowave Not really, telnet is pretty much black magic for me
What do you mean rlemon?
It depends on the settings, IIRC.
13:19
well in chromium I never had to relog into a site unless I cleared shit
I don't see it yet (but them I'm on a local mirror, it will probably just take a minute to be updated everywhere)
@MarcoCeppi I added this command to allow access to that port just incase it was needed:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 2626 -j ACCEPT
every day i'm having to relog into all of my se sites.
Chromium somehow remembered
The Gods of Ubuntu give nice fast answers. @JorgeCastro thx ;)
Go to preferences and select 'reopen the pages that were last opened' ?
13:21
@BrunoPereira that answer is so awesome
nono, not like that - like I leave work and close my browser. come back the next day open it up and hit my askubuntu bookmark and i have to relog every time(and by every time i mean once... per day).
oh that one.
@JorgeCastro Oh well, another happy user I hope. Next in line please!
Personal stuff > manage saved passwords
if it is not saved there, then it doesn't autologin.
accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin is there
i use google for my login for everything
they own me
13:24
do you login into gmail every day as well?
I've got very strange problems here :\
when I close one window of Nautilus (or Gedit), all other's go into the background. plus when I alt+tab to a pidgin window, it gets into the foreground but it doesn't get focus, I'm still typing in the gedit window behind it
my google+
@StefanoPalazzo Can't duplicate that behaviour.
@rlemon So, you logout of google accounts every day?
@jokerdino good, that seems right. "unity --replace" fixes it
@StefanoPalazzo something similar happens to me, I always have to reset unity
13:27
i don't physically click it but that is my problem. my g+ remembers my login from day to day but my se sites do not.
but when i was running chromium they were. and is google ever going to fix the damn developer tools bug?!
@rlemon I use chrome here and it does auto login me into AU.
@jokerdino grrr, maybe my chrome is just borked - i'll reinstall.
do you also suffer from the dev tools bug
Is google.com/accounts/serviceloginauth saved?
(open dev tools and JS on the page is not run, amongst other things being blocked)
it's made worse by the fact that my mouse is still broken. It's still got a warranty, but I can't take it in for repair, because I've got only one. :)
questions about repairing it go on superuser.com, right?
13:31
@jokerdino no but it is also not blocked.
@rlemon I am not sure about that dev tools bug. i don't develop web apps. so, i never really tried.
@rlemon probably, you have to have it saved so it auto logins ?
coz i have it saved here.
open dev tools CTRL+SHIFT+I (i) and refresh the page with it open... you'll see what i mean .. close dev tools and the page 'resumes'

Q: telnet refusing trafic on arbitrary port over network in 11.10

sadmicrowaveI have written a python script to listen on port 2626 and executed the script. proof that localhost is listening tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:2626 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN I can connect via telnet to this port over localhost with the following command: :~$ telnet localhost 26...

can't even spell traffic :p
@StefanoPalazzo yes
@rlemon Nothing happens..
13:34
ok so my chrome sucks.
Just stick with chromium?
@sadmicrowave are you using a router?
chromium is where i first started noticing all of these dev tools bugs
so i switched to chrome and about half are still here.
I didn't like the blue icon of chromium, so i am just using chrome.
when i reload the page with dev tools open i get stuck on a white page that is perpetually 'loading' (loading cursor, ect) until i close the dev tools.
13:37
it doesn't happen here. negative.
may be they recently fixed it?
Google Chrome 16.0.912.75 (Official Build 116452)
same version here.
but it just doesn't happen.
must just be me then
i'll have to blow away chrome and chromium and just install chrome and see if that fixes it.
that might work.
@BrunoPereira yes, but I don't have access to it; it's a corporate router. So I'm also looking for a way to test if the corporate router has blocked that traffic
13:46
@StefanoPalazzo everyone is so happy about the lens
Now we need to make it so everyone's apps can get in way faster than this
and we should be good
it took less than a week, that's pretty good
for the first app :)
great, chrome does not appear in my list of installed applications.
and fresh install does nothing. urghhh
nothing?
can you use web sync?
personal stuff > sign in
now i'm trying to fix the dev tools bug
if you're saying you are not affected by it
13:56
i took a video of my desktop.
i took a video of my kitty
... still having the problem though :P
But i deleted the video.
BRB after supper...
i kept my kitty
if it doesn't make sense, it's because it's 3AM here
feels like my question is too localized

Q: How do I repair my Logitech Anywhere MX?

Stefano PalazzoMy Anywhere Mouse has got mushy mouse button syndrome. That is, the left mouse button feels a little bit soft, and it easily double clicks, let's go when I drag something. Before I repair it at home, rather than bringing it to the store (I kind of need it, it's the only one I have), I'd like to ...

oh my world, I forgot to mention this didn't I?
@MarcoCeppi @Oli we now have an email address for all of us:
14:12
@ajmitch thanks dude!
@ajmitch sorry, you were the first response, I got that backwards for a minute
ok made a video of my problem....
recordMyDesktop is sweet
@sadmicrowave the other answer is more complete, though
true
@ajmitch doesn't matter to me, I'll let you have the points if you want them
that's some relevant advertising (:

if anyone was listening to @jokerdino and my conversation earlier

Q: having Google Chrome developer tools open causes pages to not render/load properly

rlemonI cannot find anyone else who is affected by this bug, so I am reluctant to believe it is actually a bug with google chrome. To better understand what I am dealing with here I have created a short video of what is happening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMHBj_K8upY It appears Javascript is...

@MarcoCeppi mh, I didn't get any email
possibly because I've sent it from my @ubuntu.com address
14:43
@ajmitch Hi!
AU lens is in extras!
@JorgeCastro Yeah I know :)
@JorgeCastro can you actually see it in the USC?
I am on precise. :-/
so no
@JorgeCastro how's Budapest this week?
busy
but awesome
14:47
A bit different from UDS, I imagine
well, instead of talking it's just people in rooms hacking
UDS is more fun, but rallys are more about working directly on ubuntu

it's a bit weird. synaptic says the package is coming from LP-PPA-app-review-board/
which isn't in my sources
I'm away to Australia on saturday for linux.conf.au
that is a bit odd
14:49
how do i install ppa-purge
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
???
why do i even ask..
:P
~:$ ppa-purge
The program 'ppa-purge' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
;)
i ask then instantly try it.
@ajmitch Is the launchpad lens still operational? :)
And long time no see.
@jokerdino I haven't touched it for awhile, since opening the dash tends to be a painful experience on my laptop when it's in need of RAM (ie all the time) :)
I think I might try looking into the code.
14:53
:~$ sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-video

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

does this mean it was not removed?
It means there are unmet dependencies.
resolve it and your package management will be back to sorted.
what is an unmet dependency
I am not sure how to explain that.
 Fix; attempt to correct a system with broken dependencies in place.
           This option, when used with install/remove, can omit any packages
           to permit APT to deduce a likely solution. If packages are
           specified, these have to completely correct the problem. The option
           is sometimes necessary when running APT for the first time; APT
           itself does not allow broken package dependencies to exist on a
           system. It is possible that a system's dependency structure can be

hrmm.
Makes sense?
@rlemon Could this be better placed on superuser.com ?
15:06
only seen in Ubuntu sadly.
Windows it is fine and SUSE it is fine.
Hmm special case.
@JorgeCastro hello to you there :)
Bug report?
also the problem doesn't appear to be chrome, but something on my system that is causing this to happen in chrome
like you said - same version and you do not have the same problems.
15:17
@rlemon did you get a satisfactory answer to your question of what are unmet dependencies?
yea, kinda - tbh i've moved on.
Ok, well its basically you have mismatched versions of a package installed. its expecting the 4.x versions and you have 5.x installed -- so a package or two is complianing that it will have erradic behavior if it works at all because its linked against dependencies you dont have installed.

all my edits get approved :P

Impressive :)
Who would have expected [ubuntu-tv] to be so hot.
how do i see that for other sites
how many rejected vs accepted
Wish I had created that tag. Taxonomist badge has to wait.
