@Rinzwind scp and rsync arent very different.. but scp doesnt have very decent recursion abilities from what I've seen

and any system with openssh-server on it has built in sftp capability in it

the nmap command might then be nmap -PN -p <port> <host>

the -PN part might be wrong

it'll test and assume the client is online

(otherwise it'll ping the client and see if its up, and that's not always desireable)

@GeorgeEdison Gimp's PATH are vector graphics entity (inside a raster environtment i guess)

and @Rinzwind the only way you can "ping" a port is through a port scan

like nmap

To save bandwidth usage we have setup -ed apt-cacher server

ah

but its not working..

well then i think the server doesnt have any files at the locations you're trying to get from

hence the 404s

i.e.

if at the ubuntu repos: lucid main is stored in /data/lucid/main/

on your server, that same location is being queried (or similar) and thus is not working because it doesnt exist

you'd need to check the docs
