Q: How to switch between GPU's on an Asus EEE1015PN

LanceBaynesI have an Asus EEE1015PN intel N550 with two GPU's: GMA3150 and Nvidia ION2. If I use (but I don't want to) windows 7 and I want to watch a full hd movie, then it switches to the bigger GPU. If I want to use Ubuntu 11.04, then can I switch between the two GPU's on-the-fly in a similar way as Wi...

Need help with this one :/ any ideas?

the waiting line at vimeo.com is uncool
upload → 30 minutes later online

6:14 PM
lulz
they are encondig

yeah, but that doesn't take that long - they just prefer paying users
i'll probably go back to youtube
but then i'd need to create yet another gmail account :(

both got html5, upload on that format
" Chapter 20: JavaScript RegExp Object "

it wouldn't matter - they just make you suffer if you aren't a premium user

RegExp Serious Business
youtube works for me
html5, openid

andrea azzarone is full of awesome, but i think that's the beginning of the apocalypse :P

6:25 PM
</explode on entry>

whos entry ?

How to copy files from the machine A to machine B from machine C ?

CTRL + C and CTRL + V

What about apps on different Desktop Environments (GNOME, XFCE, LXDE, ...)? http://bit.ly/nP3VU6 #gui

SHUT UP CHARLIE!
@karthick87 are you asking?

6:35 PM
whos Charlie ?

@karthick87 do both machine A and machine B have SSH/sftp available?
@karthick87 if you're asking, then:
ssh user@machineb
rsync user@machinea:/path/ /path/on/machineb/   # This is from machine b to which you're SSH'd into

Or just use TEAMVIEWER :D
File transfer ftw

@zkriesse if they dont have GUI then you fail

Then ssh :)

nautilus--->file--->connect to server

6:38 PM
@TheEvilPhoenix don't assume i'm only talking to GUI users mate

Thankyou @TheEvilPhoenix :)

@karthick87 rsync --recursive if you want to copy directories

@StefanoPalazzo: All done!

@karthick87 you should ask that as a question on au
then i'll post the answer :P

Tab and Shift+Tab indent / unindent the selected block.

6:38 PM
Fine :)

Heyah!

@karthick87 also remember my solution assumes both A and B have SSH/sftp available

@GeorgeEdison you got a .DEB or binary ?

scp for the win O

@juancarlospaco Sure do.
It's in my PPA.

6:39 PM
where ?
lenk ?

@Rinzwind its machineA -> machineB while not being on either :P

@TheEvilPhoenix I know :=) but scp ftw :+)

MachineA----->ButterFlys----->MachineB

:D

6:40 PM
@Rinzwind scp and rsync arent very different.. but scp doesnt have very decent recursion abilities from what I've seen

Do we have a GUI for scp in ubuntu?

@karthick87 SFTP
@karthick87 scp uses copy via ssh
which isnt very different from FTP tunneled through SSH
and any system with openssh-server on it has built in sftp capability in it

@GeorgeEdison no way you make a Gimp plugin, i was thinking the same!

@karthick87 at that point, any FTP client would work

@juancarlospaco Yup, I made one so that Gimp could open / save WebP images.

6:43 PM
yeah, i was thinking about that
i want SVG now :P

Gimp already can import SVG :P

save to SVG
:P

How can a bitmap be saved as a vector image?
That doesn't even make sense.

@karthick87 be careful with rsync though.. it DOES overwrite whatever is at the destination, and if you switch the commands and thus rsync to machine A from machine B, you're f'd

lulz
i know

6:44 PM
@Rinzwind i am getting 404 error in clients on installing packages. Can you help ? It's regarding apt-cacher..

Gimp do vector graphics

I think you already asked that, didn't you? I do not think I found something wrong with the setup @karthick87

@Rinzwind yeah i asked you already. I think the port is getting blocked in firewall.. Is it possible to check whether my ports are getting blocked?

@karthick87 nmap from external source?

Ofcourse. Easiest would probably be to ping the port(?) Or nmap it like TheEvilPhoenix

6:50 PM
the nmap command might then be nmap -PN -p <port> <host>
the -PN part might be wrong
lemme check

hmmm
bbl :(

nope, the -PN part is right
it'll test and assume the client is online
(otherwise it'll ping the client and see if its up, and that's not always desireable)

@GeorgeEdison Gimp's PATH are vector graphics entity (inside a raster environtment i guess)

and @Rinzwind the only way you can "ping" a port is through a port scan
like nmap

I get the following reply,
C:\Documents and Settings\chnadmin>ping 3142

Pinging 0.0.12.70 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 0.0.12.70:
Packets: Sent = 2, Received = 0, Lost = 2 (100% loss),

6:52 PM
since the ping command is an ICMP ping and doesnt have a port

hmm
So what's up

@karthick87 that just means the ping isnt being replied to
@karthick87 ping can be unreliable in that manner
because if the box is blocking ICMP it'll result in that output

So what will be the next try?

@karthick87 nmap -PN -p <port> <host>?
either from inside the net or from an external location outside the net
not at the box itself though
and wtf are you doing in a windows environment

lulz
Legacy OS

6:59 PM
karthick@karthick:~$ nmap -PN -p 1111 172.29.32.7

Starting Nmap 5.21 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-07-13 00:29 IST
Nmap scan report for 172.29.32.7
Host is up (0.00025s latency).
PORT STATE SERVICE
1111/tcp open unknown

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.37 seconds

٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶

shows that the port is open in the firewall then
notice under "STATE": open
the firewall at the box then :P
if that's routed through a router that has port forwarding on, then that port is open :P

Then why i am getting 404 error when installing packages in clients from apt-cacher server..

the IceWall

why the hell are you using apt-cacher?
did you try apt-get?
wait
are you trying to mirror an apt repo or something

7:04 PM
lulz

LOL we have more than 500 ubuntu PC's in our office.
To save bandwidth usage we have setup -ed apt-cacher server

but its not working..

well then i think the server doesnt have any files at the locations you're trying to get from
hence the 404s
i.e.
if at the ubuntu repos: lucid main is stored in /data/lucid/main/
on your server, that same location is being queried (or similar) and thus is not working because it doesnt exist
you'd need to check the docs
or actually post to au
:p

I suggest you to try MigasFree, its a Web App for do that thing point'n'click from the browser centralized console...

7:14 PM
@TheEvilPhoenix
I have followed this guide at present..
but how to import the cd caches?
^ ^

@karthick87 did you read ubuntu's documentation? help.ubuntu.com/community/Apt-Cacher-Server
pay attention to the "Load from CD" section
:P
and you'll need apache2 according to the thing

apache2 :D
I wrote a post on how to install that

(btw: ALWAYS turn to the Ubuntu documentation first before trusting other sites and blogs)

along with PHP5 etc
seconds what @TheEvilPhoenix says

TCP/IPv6 over Pingeons Carriers
serious business

7:26 PM
I'VE WON!!!!!

good
u invite BBQ for everyone

@Alvar i hate you so much right now

I know ;)

7:27 PM

I will...

or i'll flag as offensive and burninate you

@TheEvilPhoenix right... ;)

@TheEvilPhoenix you would have done the same thing! ;)

7:28 PM
@karthick87 any luck?
@Alvar no i would have said "Checkmate. Good game. Again?"
@Alvar i dont gloat when i win

@TheEvilPhoenix then it's another thing....

Urban Terror

@juancarlospaco hehe.. I had a awesome round ones, 21 kills, 2 deaths 10 hs. then people started calling me a cheater! that's why I don't play urbanterror anymore....

BURNINATED sound too weird
just like when you say Pop-Up

7:35 PM
sound sounds too weird

weird sound weird

lol @Alvar

sound weird sound

@TheEvilPhoenix Nope :(

@karthick87 ouch. dunno what to tell you then
except maybe follow the ubuntu docs instead
and start from scratch
:P
or ask a question about it on au :P
@karthick87 lemme check later and see if I cant make it work in a virtual environment
i'll letcha know what happens

7:40 PM
Yeah thankyou :)

A: How to switch between GPU's on an Asus EEE1015PN

zkriesseI would recommend you take a look at the Ubuntu Help page on Hybrid Graphics. It seems to be very informative and exactly what you're looking for. I'll break it down for you as best I can though right here... :-) As the original how-to post is almost two pages long I won't post it in it's entir...

Check that out guys, tell me what you think

you've posted that twice in here already today
would you like me to get @StefanoPalazzo in here to burninate you on my behalf?

Dude, I posted the question earlier, that is an answer to said question

7:42 PM
Yeah

in that case
you should be burninated for having low rep :P
</crazy>

heh
whatev
puts up Goa'uld Shield

loads up USAF Odyssey's Asgard energy beam weaponry
yes, i've seen that series as well ;)
fires at the @zkriesse, destroys @zkriesse

damniit
Yeah Asgard are cooler than the Goa'uld :D

then of course there's the other almighty-powered vessels...
there's the Ancient Warship

7:45 PM
LOIC

and Atlantis

I love O'Neill's interactions with the Asgard

and the Super Hive from the end of SG:Atlantis

Atlantis is AWESOME
Yeah that super hive

not to mention the Ori motherships

7:45 PM
Not to mention the replicators

true
but only the replicator ships that are built from nanocells
not the replicator-assimilated ships

I think the Replicators could pull a bit over the Ori
Indeed

Hello.

did you ever watch Stargate: The Ark of Truth?

Replicator assimilated ones are just as weak as they originally were

7:46 PM
epic movie

Yes

@zkriesse except shields are more powerful in replicator assimilated

And Stargate Continuum

saw it, prefer Ark of Truth :P

Yeah that and their weaponry, cause they enhance that

7:47 PM
mhm

Yeah I prefer Ark of Truth too

but its still just as weak :P

<----- has no clue what is being talked about in here....

Lot better, better storyline and plot

@TheX Stargate

7:47 PM
Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis etc

@TheX failure to understand results in burnination

<---- has no cloud

Is that the sci-fi movie from the late 90's?

I have rised a question in ubuntuforums.org ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1802937

Yeah
Well the original, which I've yet to see

7:48 PM
:P

I've seen every other stargate show/film except that one

i've seen it
it spurred a decade-long show based directly off of that movie

gah
I want to

I don't think I have seen any of them,
but then again I never watch movies.

as well as splinter series that tied in with the original show

7:49 PM
Yeah...
@thex you need to

@TheX THEN YOU MUST BE BURNINATED!!!!!!!!
burninates @TheX

I don't have time.

to watch the movies or be burninated?
:P

↑ Poke

to be burninated

7:50 PM
lol

@thex until you have watched stargate you havent experienced one of the greatest experiences on this earth

@zkriesse ☜ [Poke]

@TheEvilPhoenix I have to say one of my most fav episodes is in Season 4 where O'Neill and Teal'c are stuck in that time loop

7:51 PM
I have to go, my wife is cleaning out my closet, I am affriad if I don't get in there I may not have any clothes left.

@juancarlospaco sup
LOL

my favorite isnt even in SG1

I'm so starring that

i just implemented the Poke non-Plug-in

7:51 PM
How

@TheEvilPhoenix ☜ [Poke]

@zkriesse fave episode is from Atlantis: the battle of Asuras (Replicator homeworld in Pegasus)
whatever that episode is called

@juancarlospaco [Poke]
@TheEvilPhoenix thats awesome episode

they defeat the repolicators with an alliance between the Travellers, the Atlantis expedition, and the Wraith (which is the weirdest alliance ever)
EPIC ALLIANCE FTW

@zkriesse +①

7:53 PM
Oh yeah that episode was awesome
Especially when the wraith ships blow up cause the Artero device

the +1 non-plug-in

different episode
but yeah that one was pretty cool

@juancarlospaco how'd u do that

because the cause of that device turning on was a splinter group of the ASGARD

@TheEvilPhoenix I was just commenting on wraith ship happenings

7:54 PM
:P

Although I have to say I think Todd is an awesome wraith

@zkriesse ✗[DISlike]

lol
he's stuck on Earth in captivity at the conclusion of the series when Atlantis returned to earth :P

the DISLike non-plug-in

and i'll betcha that Stargate Command would get moved to Atlantis if the series had continued :p

7:55 PM
You realize that's the same guy who plays one of Teyla Emmagan's people

Oh heck yeah

@TheEvilPhoenix ✗[DISlike]

You watch Sanctuary yet?

seriously, Atlantis has what 6 drone bays? almighty pwnage :P

7:56 PM
what exactly are you talking about? :D

Yeah
STARGATE

urgs

Stargate Atlantis (often abbreviated SGA) is a Canadian-American science fiction television series and part of MGM's Stargate franchise. The show was created by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper as a spin-off series of Stargate SG-1, which was created by Wright and Jonathan Glassner and was itself based on the feature film Stargate (1994). The first three seasons of Stargate Atlantis were broadcast by The Sci-Fi Channel and The Movie Network, while the final two seasons aired exclusively on Sci-Fi. The show premiered on July 16, 2004; its final episode aired on January 9, 2009. The series ...
Stargate is a military science fiction franchise, initially conceived by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. The first film in the franchise was simply titled Stargate. It was originally released on October 28, 1994 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Carolco, and became a worldwide hit grossing nearly $200 million (USD) worldwide. Three years later, Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner created a television series titled Stargate SG-1 as a sequel for the film. In addition to film and television, the Stargate franchise has expanded into other media, including books, video games, and comic books. T...

burninates @htorque, then refuses to test apt-cacher-ng

7:56 PM
richard dean anderson = macgyver and no one else

high fives @TheEvilPhoenix for Stargate fanism

i like the neo-SG1 though after O'Neill left

@htorque I do agree with ya on that, I'm gonna watch it again soon

they caused the Ori conflict :P

Oh you mean Colonel Mitchell?

7:57 PM
atlantis is coming out on bluray
this month I think

mhm
@JorgeCastro icanhasasgift?

Yeah I liked him and Teal'c 's interactions

Although I love the chemistry with Sheppard and Ronin

7:58 PM
Ronin is a freakin BEAST

i'm surprised McKay got over his infatuation with Carter

Lol he never did man

and instead hooked up with Keller

He just stayed infatuated with her science

the VERY end of the series

7:59 PM
Difference there but he still "loved" her in a way

you know what I meant by "Infatuated" ya ninny

Although I agree with ya, McKay and Keller was a great match

Totally unexpected but totally awesome too
