Cool im havin 199 rep exactly :)
awesome, i watched Q1 and Q2 but missed Q3
*** DON'T SPOIL IT ***
13:21
now you know how I feel :D
SHALL I
@htorque if you can afford the flight, try to get citizenship in britain and watch it on the iPlayer
their coverage is unbelievably good
@StefanoPalazzo i already looked the results up :P just said it so no one spoils it for you :P
oh I see :D
thanks <3
@htorque BTW what is your real name
13:24
my real name? it's Mysterion
inputs mysterion
@htorque's real name is:
easy to find out
Error No UUID found with Mysterion
grrrr
13:25
I knew his real name one...
Say his name its for TM
it was Ican T. Remember
Ill just input Mark Torque
yeah :D just put Mark
or Steve
[TM]:Mark Torque is a UUID
13:27
D:
no not Steve
sudo killall apple&&kill 'steve-jobs'
@RolandTaylor what's wrong with steve?
Steve Torque sounds like a Manga comic book's racing driver
@Amithkk, that's only the second chat-message I deleted since I became a moderator. And interestingly, the first one said pretty much the same thing
anyways regarding to my older question
20 hours ago, by Amith kk
I got a q ,My friend refuses to switch to linux
20 hours ago, by Amith kk
Opt 1 :Sabotage windows
13:33
what's wrong with Windows?
@Oli i'd accept both answers if i could. i'll wait for another hour or so and pick the one with more upvotes (so it's the community's fault :P)
(he said without shame, in the year 2011)
20 hours ago, by Amith kk
Opt 2 :Let him continue using windows
@StefanoPalazzo i managed to convert 15 of my friends to linux
and this one is no exception
impressive :O
He even uses XBMC
13:34
how did you do it?
so why not switch to ubuntu
I find that talking to people about linux causes them to malfunction, socially.
@RolandTaylor 4 by sabotage (By A virus) The rest by just showing off compiz :P
they came like bees
@Amithkk a virus?
13:36
@StefanoPalazzo Yes, I got it once and decided to keep it in a Encripted Disc
I got it from a floppy
that sounds like something I would - plan - to do, but never execute...
Suprisingly an antivirus dosent scan floppys
I won over a lot of people at college using compiz, wine, the improved security (will explain), and the speed, and more
@Amithkk they must not be very good friends then
+1
I took viruses away from my friends' computers and kept them on mine
that sure won people over
13:38
@StefanoPalazzo i took precautions by backing up on my 5 250 gb ehdds
I've still got the viruses actually :)
Me too
@Amithkk yours?! what about your friend's?
@StefanoPalazzo i backed up my friends, not mine
13:39
@RolandTaylor i still got a floppy disk with a "parity boot a" virus. want some?
still. that's not nice at all
3
@htorque sure :D
@StefanoPalazzo anyways i told tham that and they said 'we prefer linux'
@Amithkk a more convincing method is to be the benevolent hero of the day :)
@RolandTaylor i had to remove this from over 200 floppys back then... what a fun!
13:40
@htorque I got booted off the it security stack exchange (had my account deleted) for asking where to get viruses :D
you remove their viruses with a live CD and no antivirus - they will love you and switch for it
@StefanoPalazzo lol
@RolandTaylor did that too
@htorque they just don't make viruses like they used too :(
@StefanoPalazzo how do they think security companies work
13:40
@StefanoPalazzo I have lots... you want some?
I know ,right
im currently developing a rm-rf virus
uh....
no...
a friend of mine is working for a security company and most of his working time he collects viruses from teh internetz
@RolandTaylor I have more than u i have 145 floppys with 115 with viruses
BBL gotta study
@htorque We had a long discussion in the chat afterwards. My blue username came as a bit of a surprise to them (:
13:42
And @StefanoPalazzo You want viruses get them in torrents
I've lost interest in the topic since.
@StefanoPalazzo You are best mod ever
@Amithkk in torrents?
That's so boring...
13:43
You get them from windows users with a flash drive...
@RolandTaylor i collect a few when i go to others comp to fix theirs
most of the "viruses" are actually trojans that phone home for more instructions, download other "viruses" and propagate themselves without destroying the host
I'm told that windows is rather better these days, regarding viruses
not much
Use DOS
13:44
Only 64bit Windows is really all that safe
LOL
@RolandTaylor i got attacked by a virus in win7 64bit
i got a Server virus once
It was called
BHAMA-R
or something like that (Obama?)
i use a strain of a Host-Based-Overtake virus to make them change to linux
doesn't anybody else think that that's wrong?
I don't get viruses on my Windows Vista 64bit installation... I don't use it.
13:48
one of them stole ubuntu 8.04 cd from me and discovered it himself
he thought it was some uber secret thing
you know you can get in trouble for that right?
because of the terminal
@RolandTaylor for what
i dunno sombody called kentuckykid gave me that virus
Ok Ill stop using that disc
shall i shatter it?
or electrocute it?
I tried that once,
it didn't go well
(breaking it that is)
13:52
it shatters
i have it on floppy
ever since I just mark them with a big X rather than destroying them. Had to wear a bandage for a week :\
i always encrypt not-so-safe discs after that stealing thing
he once tried to copy all 120 gb worth of games onto a DVD
burn it
in a fire :)
I burned a sonic CD once...
SONICCCCC
BBL
@Amithkk Okay I'm only assuming it was you, but, if so: please do not flag posts like that. ever
13:57
installing ubuntu is a joy; the installer is just great. :-)
@Amithkk only the moderators and some high-rep users can see those flags. And it takes time and effort to deal with them. (again, we do this without pay, in our spare time)
okay, I'll stop ranting (:
what flag was that?
I haven't checked in a bit
@RolandTaylor I dismissed it almost immediately
I don't even know if it was @Amith who flagged it of course. (And I apologise for the rant if not)
i'm just glad i can see those flags :D:D
same here :)
can I flag firefox 7 for showing my text cursor in the wrong place? D:
I'm from the future. The future is bugged.
14:08
does anybody else think the version numbers are a bit silly? :)
"Firefox 7" sounds weird
pretends not to think so
lalala
we should just get rid of version numbers entirely
I think so too
it's confusing a bit
for all I know, I could be running anything from chrome 10 to 14, I've absolutely no idea
(which I find very nice)
14:10
opera has made strange jumps too, but at least now their dev version always is named opera-next
(and it's easy to install it side-by-side with the stable version)
but then, i'm about to switch to chromium :D
I'm sticking with IceRabbit
and the tv went down again. crap.
why did i give my terratec usb stick to my parents again? :P
this is slackware
(note the top-most version number, also, they just jumped from 4 to 7)
@StefanoPalazzo the hell?
O.o
14:13
13.37?
really?
It's slackware after all (:

Q: How big of a risk are popular Chrome extensions?

htorqueI'm about to switch to Chromium and I installed a couple of extensions. Each time I installed an extension I was notified of which data the extension has access to, e.g.: I do understand that access to that data is necessary for the extension to work, yet I'm a bit worried that such an extensi...

Hello Everyone!
@Dananjaya Hey, nice to see you!
hello @Dananjaya :)
@Dananjaya hai
14:38
Nice to see you all too.. :-) By the way, does anybody know how to add Fedora 14 to Ubuntu's Grub menu?
@Dananjaya Goodbye!
@FlackBot flackbot no
@RolandTaylor You should totally drop that and try jQuery. (In other words, I don't know what you're trying to say.)
ugh.. I'm going to throw him out
14:39
bye @FlackBot :D
@Dananjaya I would think Ubuntu does it automatically
@StefanoPalazzo Well, I executed update-grub (if it's what you mean by automatically) but still I can't see the Fedora 14 entry in the grub.cfg
oh
it shouldn't be in grub.cfg. Try to reboot your system and check if Fedora's there
it stores this stuff somewhere else now
@StefanoPalazzo I did reboot but It jumps off straight to Ubuntu... :-(
you can have a look through /etc/grub.d/ - though I'm not sure if you're supposed to find fedora there
@Dananjaya you've got to hold down the Shift key while booting for grub to show up
@StefanoPalazzo You can see the output of my boot-info-script here askubuntu.com/questions/50523/cant-add-fedora-14-to-grub
@StefanoPalazzo No, Fedora 14 not there as well...
14:45

A: Nvidia API mismatch

Roland TaylorI had this problem once, and it is surprisingly easy to fix. The following is based on patchy memory so be careful! First you need to see that the nvidia libraries in /usr/lib32/ match: /usr/lib32/libOpenCL.so /usr/lib32/nvidia-current /usr/lib32/nvidia-current/libGL.la /usr/lib32/nvid...

vote for meh!
Well, I'm out of ideas. I remember things can get slightly complicated when an os with and without LVM interact. but I'm sure you'll get an answer to your question soon
hopefully (:

oh..
14:48
@StefanoPalazzo Me too :-) Although this happens because Ubuntu uses Grub2 while Fedora still on Legacy I think..
I'm reading that a) Ubuntu should indeed handle this properly and b) Fedora 15 is much nicer about it, if you need to install it after Ubuntu
maybe the code that makes things work is in the wrong place (Ubiquity rather than grub-update)
\o +1 Roland
should that fedora q not moved to askfedora >:D
how do I copy a tweet?
@StefanoPalazzo I did tried to installed Fedora 15, but--this does not in the askubuntu category--but Fedora 15 doesn't even boot in My PC. It comes to that screen where you can see the blue stripes wallpaper and a bird or two..but nothing else
@StefanoPalazzo twitter.com/#!/humphreybc <---- people like him are the reason people like me treat people the way we do
I can't get to copy the tweet :(
14:54
@Dananjaya If you want to follow up on that problem, we have a unix & linux site as well :)
@StefanoPalazzo I'll add the Fedora 15 Q there...
@RolandTaylor you've got to admit, this Ken Ham guy is pretty idiotic
@Dananjaya yeah
I can't imagine you and he are quite in the same league, intellectually
how do I copy a tweet?
@StefanoPalazzo I don't agree with A.I.G 100%, but we are on a similar vein you could say
However, just because you disagree with someone doesn't give you the right to call them a "sick fsck"
14:57
@RolandTaylor If you click on the tweet's timestamp (you know like 3 minutes ago) can get a link to the Tweet
oh ty
I got too accustomed to gwibber :P
@RolandTaylor oh well. You could call AIG all kinds of names even if you take the bible literally. It's just ridiculous and, at the same time, boring. Borst of Woth Worlds™
Btw shall I inform him that a bastard is someone who was born illegitimately?
@RolandTaylor that would be incorrect :)
@StefanoPalazzo Comment on my question suggests that I execute grub-install...
14:59
I had it explained to me by a linguist. No word has a "true" definition. Their meaning is defined by usage, not by the dictionary
lol
here we go again... back to my main problem with the main stream :)
"Ubuntu is not an OS, we don't accept that"
anyway guys!
I'm out - need food :P
disappears
o/
@Dananjaya I'm not sure about that one. Do you have a rescue-plan in place?
As in, do you have a live-CD and a USB hard disk handy, in case it goes wrong?
@StefanoPalazzo hmm... I do have an Live-CD..
@StefanoPalazzo And some important documents in Ubuntu One
Always prepare for the worst
@StefanoPalazzo yeah :-) Well, I just ran install-grub sda3
15:03
huh
@StefanoPalazzo It didn't gave any output though :-(
you run grub from sda1 don't you?
@StefanoPalazzo Yes..
so you wiped Fedora's boot-loader
@StefanoPalazzo :-/
15:04
eh no? you run it on the disc it is installed don't you!?
@Rinzwind Right now?
looks like there's grub on sda1, which the system boots off, and then there's grub-legacy on sda3 (or rather there was). Which should be (I guess) what the sda1 grub starts when you select "Fedora" from the boot menu (were it there)
@Rinzwind Right now I'm booted from Ubuntu and It's in sda1
argh, I forgot it again
you need to install Grub onto a hard drive, not a parition
so /dev/sda rather than sdaX
again, have a back up plan in place before you do
this will brick your system if it goes wrong, forcing you to re-install your operating systems
@StefanoPalazzo I see.. But then I will lose Ubuntu.. :-( Yeah.. I guess so too...
15:09
grub should discover both Ubuntu and Fedora
@StefanoPalazzo I executed update-grub again, but no sign of Fedora still..
Well I will reboot the machine now... We'l see that happened with all the tinkering..
best of luck :|
15:28
@StefanoPalazzo Okay, the good news Is I still can boot into Ubuntu.. But no sign of Fedora 14 yet..

This is quite nice for offline installs :)

@Amithkk Not that... 1 downvote!

the image quality isn't exactly great
The quality is fine... the problem is the aliasing.
@GeorgeEdison ummm?
@htorque the logo is the biggest i found
17:22
i'll have a look if it's ok?
Try opening it in the Gimp, selecting the logo, and antialiasing that part.
@MNightShyamalan can i do the gimp part and see
@Amithkk yes
@GeorgeEdison
i get this
i asked at #fullcirclemagazine for a svg version of the logo

@MNightShyamalan How is it??
@Achu can you make me one of the room owners? I promise ill do a good job
well the jagged edges are still there and will be there unless you find a bigger version of the logo
17:32
it's not exactly difficult to fix the circle edges, but i'd prefer to get a svg version :)
@Amithkk sure but we will use that room for discussing about translations and introducing Ubuntu to Ethiopians people. if you are willing to joining us you are welcome!
