I am having problems with what we are exactly trying to do with x and y?
Could you give me the logic behind comparing the two?
If anybody can assist me it would be great..

@RajorshiKoyal There is no question there. So there is no answer.

@RajorshiKoyal Your screenshot did not contain a single question.
You need to learn to ask a proper question, then you can get an answer.

Yes they did
I wrote the question below..

I am having problems with what we are exactly trying to do with x and y?

Could you give me the logic behind comparing the two?
Please check this out
@user21820
Could we discuss them here..What I am saying is how are x and y different from each other in that sense..??

You ask me what you are trying to do. How would I know? I cannot read your mind or your teacher's mind!!
Also, what are x,y? They are clearly variables, but neither you nor your screenshot told me what they represent. Is x an apple tree? Is y a table?

What I am saying is while we are trying to solve x and y..Why and how are we to compare the two..
ok..Sorry they are variabes..

1:05 PM
@RajorshiKoyal You did not say you were trying to solve x and y. Furthermore, variables cannot be solved. Equations can be.

ok..
Then..??

Then? Why should I want to compare the two equations you had there?

My instructor asked me to compare the two values :-)

Yes? So you expect me to know what your instructor told you to, without telling me?

No I am sorry..

1:08 PM
Anyway, a quadratic equation can have two solutions. What does "compare" mean when it's not uniquely defined?

Comparing x and ys which ever os greater
I really could not figure out what my instructor did by dividing the value with the coefficient and what he multipled? I really could not follow.
What do you really mean by uniquely defined?

Just find the solutions to those quadratic equations and figure out what you want.

I did but what is meant by unique solutions
Please give me the theoretical insight into this.

I don't know what you want, and if you have difficulty understanding your teacher then it's your teacher's responsibility to answer you.

1:27 PM
Yes I could not follow his explanation going by the working what do you think he wants to do?
I am speaking specifically about the first problem.
@user21820 Why are you saying they are not uniquely defined?

1:45 PM
There is no working. There are only meaningless numbers strewn all over the place.
If your teacher does not want to explain to you, then it's a lousy teacher.

@Wezl ---strikethrough--- strikethrough

@cairdcoinheringaahing I'm not trying to strikethrough

Or not, I can never tell when people use ~~ for emphasis or strikes :/

@user you took the time to properly capitalize and punctuate

OOPS

1:47 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing okay I'm gonna use only monospace so there won't be any confusion

test
@Wezl you can strikethrough monospace :P

Please take this to the Sandbox. :P

but it's too much work so I won't

and you can do this
I'm moving this to the sandbox lol
