oh. it's 8am. lol
sucks not being able to reach over and turn the sun off
15:20
@MickLH It is called blinders :P
Jon
Jon
15:47
holy shit its already 1
16:03
It's already 5 :o
1... 5... sheesh at that rate it's probably literally 9 by now
> 9:04
hahah
user92578
is there a key that I've accidentally pressed that disables brace completion in VS?
user92578
It shows up on in the settings
Jon
Jon
16:28
anyone ever get the d-pad of a controller tow ork in Unity?
everyone is saying it is mapped to button 8-9..
but that is bullshit
Then others say it is thr 5th x-axis
others say it is the 6th
others say it isn't an axis at all
the information online on how to map to a d-pad in unity is pretty fucken ridiculous
so I saw John Wick. Not bad. SOmething struck me as odd though... he signed for a package... left-handed. I just did a quick google and I don't see any pictures of him weilding his guns left-handed.
Jon
Jon
ok, it is the 6th axis
LOL @Almo -- they are making a 2nd one already
@Jon It likely depends on the gamepad
Keanu is left-handed. maybe they just forgot.
user92578
@Jon my code for getting a gamepad to work: SDL_GameControllerOpen(0);
16:32
@Tyyppi_77 ftw
Jon
Jon
yah.. well you gonna have to handle mapping at some point
user92578
of course I need to check for the events, but that's pretty much it
SDL2 took the liberty of making a standardized controller map
I hope that worked out well
if not, SDL1 still works :P
user92578
yeah, you have constants like SDL_CONTROLLER_AXIS_LEFTX and SDL_CONTROLLER_AXIS_RIGHTX
Jon
Jon
in Unity, its a bunch of Input settings
not sure if you can let the user change them or not yet
considering the way unity handles input, I would guess no
but yeah, from what I am reading online -- all joysticks are handled differently in Unity
it seems like it is a nightmare to do properly
16:38
or rather the way unity doesn't handle controllers
Jon
Jon
if you have an android app, make sure to go fill out the new questionaire in your dev console
or your app may be blocked in certain regions
16:58
ok i just found pics of John Wick left-wielding his gun.
not sure why the poster has it in his right
lol
i do weird things wehn I'm bored at home eating
Likely ideas: Incompetence, Inattentiveness, Inaccuracy, Emotional manipulation of right handed people, idk
ahhaha
I noticed immediately that he signed left-handed, but then I forgot to check for it later
I had one more to type but it's awkward to type
17:01
:)
Basically, maybe the game is designed to be played righty and has some minor glitch with left handed controls, and so they could be trying to encourage that experience so that the ambidextrous community will unconsciously be biased to the right hand, leading more people to use the "best" version of the controls.
It's a movie
the actor is a lefty in RL
hlyfk!
Perhaps it was simply symbolism within the plot, or maybe even meta-symbolism
:D
Lol I could keep yielding this coroutine if you like
17:05
hahaha
In thinking of the word "yielding" while typing it, I accidentally activated enough code to think that it could have also just been a mundane office joke bet or something
Jon
Jon
yield is a strange word
well, the traffic stop word is anyways
I agree
"yield" seems like a dubstep sound effect to me
oooo I have one of those
super smash bitchezz
17:17
@Jon Why buy the book? Just start drinking a ton of carrot juice.
Jon
Jon
this is apparently every controller made for gamecube.
@AidanMueller because... of reasons.
They are apparently starting to work on a NEW content pipeline, to replace what XNA used to do
@Jon and they're all uncomfortable
^ lol
Argh, I'm stuck with god choice paralysis again.
From which decision? :P
17:29
I need to choose a god in dungeon crawl
And I can't decide which one
Uhmm..
What are the options?
I'm playing a glass cannon melee spellcaster, and the good options include the slow god, the warmaster, and the god of destruction.
But there is a total of 20 gods to choose from.
Ahh
Sorry but I haven't played the game :P
Yeah I know, those links won't tell you much :P
user4704
Kikubaaqudgha.
user4704
17:33
On account of having the best name.
Haha necromancy won't help me much :P
user4704
Pff.
user4704
It's not about helping it's about finding new and interesting ways to play.
user4704
Slash die.
Jon
Jon
17:35
slashdie
that is a good gamer nick
user4704
I had a character in GW2 named Slash Dot Kill
user4704
Because /.kill was the dev command to kill anything.
user4704
I think I deleted him to make room for Unsigned Charr though.
Jon
Jon
very cool
what was your very first online nickname that you remember?
back in the 90s, my first one was |-RaGe-| lol
I guess I'll delete it then.
One thing I ilke about Unity Input manager:
Grabbing = Input.GetButton ("Grab");
You can assign actions as a button mapping
Gamedev time :D

1 hour later…
Pip
Pip
eyo
@AidanMueller nice!
Joe
Joe
lol
they are just renaming it, renaming won't make shit to gold
it'd just be golden shit then
@Lasse I would not want to be the person whose job it is to put gold foil on shit
I've heard that if you eat those super thin gold flakes (they are edible), your shit will turn in to gold, but I doubt it'll look like that
Pip
Pip
19:03
lol
Pip
Pip
I need to upload a new one, actually
progress since then
@Lasse Nothing like eating your money.
well if you buy your food you are doing it
Pip
Pip
(link fixed)
19:06
@Lasse Still. Not really worth it.
yeah you get more nutrients if you just tear up some paper cash and eat it
but you shouldn't do that either if you are going to take a drug test the next day
Some Indian food has edible gold or silver for decorative purposes
Vark, varak (Sanskrit: वरक) or varaka is any foil composed of a pure metal, typically silver, sometimes gold, used for garnishing sweets in South Asian cuisine. The silver is edible, though flavorless. Varak is made by pounding silver into a sheet a few micrometres thick, and backed with paper for support; this paper is peeled away before use. It is extremely brittle and breaks into smaller pieces if touched. Vark sheets are laid or rolled over some South Asian sweets. Edible silver and gold foils on sweets, confectionary and desserts is not unique to the Indian subcontinent; other regions such...
they do that with sushi too
and some ice creams
also they sell russian standard golden vodka with those gold flakes in it
Vodka with Vark
count me in

19:26
Huh, I actually agree with most of this
Anyone ever used Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoad in C#?
I'm curious if I could use it to look at types and attributes before actually loading up the assembly.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager are you querying a plugin for validity before loading it?
(or attempting to, anyway?)
Interesting.
19:33
@Lasse Not to mention all the germs.
What's the concern with loading the DLL--what problem are you trying to avoid?
I need to load them in order of dependency.
And check for circular dependency.
So I want to know each plugins dependency, perform the checks and then load them up in order.
"Dependencies are not automatically loaded into the reflection-only context."
Looks like it's exactly what I need.
Only one way to be absolutely certain...
Huh. That's actually really cool.
Pip
Pip
20:32
Hey all, mind testing out something for me?
I've got some compiled exes (for Windows, Linux, and Mac), and I want to see if everything works in all three
menu is self-explanatory, wasd keys for the game itself (that's temp, will be removed when I get pathfinding working)
well nothing else is working for me today, so I'll probably just break it by being unlucky, but I'll give it a try :P
Pip
Pip
:D
It starts
I think you need either more feedback on the start button or not fade the background out
I was thinking the button doesn't work
options and exit buttons don't work (either in the menu or after clicking play), but that's probably a known issue. other than that it all works on windows 8.1
Pip
Pip
@KevinvanderVelden sorry about that
20:39
Nothing to be sorry about =p
Pip
Pip
@IcyDefiance Options one known, nothing there yet
It's just feedback ^^
Pip
Pip
:D
Huh..... both Icy and another friend of mine are reporting the exit button not working..... hm
I didn't get the exit button working either
I assumed it was known =p
Pip
Pip
It was not, thanks
I wonder why D:<
20:41
well it was easy to get vim working on windows. YCM, though...so painful...
Pip
Pip
Ouch
the people who make this software are such damn elitists and refuse to explain things to anyone, so the instructions are so high level as to be useless
Pip
Pip
Lol
Also, apparently Skype keeps working if you move into a TTY console (just the voice part, not the video part)
huh
@IcyDefiance ycm?
YouCompleteMe. autocomplete for vim.
20:47
Aah
@Pip why wouldn't it? =p
Pip
Pip
No idea, just interesting :D
I think it's because I'm using x64 vim and libclang.dll was compiled for x86...but there's no x64 binary download for libclang.dll, so I need to compile it myself?
so confusing
tempted to just set up a dual-boot into ubuntu/gnome and just stick my programming environment there
that's just way more annoying over the long run than keeping everything in windows
@IcyDefiance you can also use vmware
Eer. virtualbox
That offers a seamless mode
vms are slow and annoying though. I wouldn't use them for anything I spend a lot of time on.
I've tried before. Just way too irritating.
They're not really now a days. How old is your CPU?
It probably has support for virtualization (you may need to turn it on) and it runs at near host performance
20:55
i7-3770. not that old.
I was trying to use monodevelop in a vm just a month or two ago
wasn't fun
i7 has support for virtualization
Turn it on in your BIOS and try it out with virtualbox
The 7DRL game, which is pure software, runs at the same speed in my vms as on the windows host
ah bios setting might make a difference. didn't know that existed.
Yeah, of course, then you'll need to disable the windows virtualization thing
Because it thinks "Hey! It's a cpu with virtualization, let's hog that so no other pogram can use it"
but first, I'm gonna try using 32-bit vim
because if I can get it all working in windows, that's the best solution
evnin all
Pip
Pip
Alright, new version
Exit button should be fixed on all platforms
hey Wardy :D
hmmmm just loading this envio build of yours
Pip
Pip
alright
uh .... i don't get it
Pip
Pip
21:09
hm?
what ya sposed to do
Pip
Pip
Not a lot of actual gameplay, been having a blast with the Unity GUI system
love the menu screen
Pip
Pip
Thanks
@pip whats that?
21:10
alought I would move the options down
center them
Pip
Pip
Game I'm working on @Hjorthenify
@Wardy what options? :P
oh, you mean the actual text?
transitions are cool too
Pip
Pip
thanks
I was playing with coroutines and got that to work, was fun
@Pip yeh i mean the big container section that holds the buttons
Pip
Pip
oh, the panel... hm...
I'm going to try it out centered
21:11
Ahh I see
what you sposed to do atm when you actually get in game ?
I guess nothing atm
like the music too
Pip
Pip
it's by @dorfy
and now installing 32-bit vim broke its python support :'(
I quit
Pip
Pip
lol
sup @IcyDefiance ?
21:12
o/
Pip
Pip
39 mins ago, by Pip
menu is self-explanatory, wasd keys for the game itself (that's temp, will be removed when I get pathfinding working)
@Pip ah ok
so yeh i figured out just about everything I could do lol
Hi Icy
Pip
Pip
The panel looks ugly centered at any lower res than 1080 :/
Dang
hmmm ... maybe add something to the sky
like a sun or moon
that should even it out a bit
Pip
Pip
21:15
Hmmm that could look nice
lol ... i must have a bit of a flair for this design stuff ... too much time looking at naff websites I guess
Pip
Pip
I moved it down a bit, looks a bit better now but still probably needs some work
:D
Yeh have a play with it
I would say that that whole panel could be quite a bit smaller too
Pip
Pip
Exit buttons work now @IcyDefiance @KevinvanderVelden ?
@Wardy That's an issue with screen scaling :/
making it smaller might make it work a bit better when centered too
hmmm I just loaded it in to the default 1024 window
Pip
Pip
21:17
It looks good at lower resolutions, but at very high res it looks too stretched
does it not scale properly ?
I thought unity would handle that
Pip
Pip
It is a bit odd about that, messing with it
thanks
np ...
sounds like you just want to play it a bit more
i'm sure you'll find a nice medium in there somewhere
Pip
Pip
21:18
yep
im having to resort to monodevelop at the moment
VS isn't compatible with win 10
blows chunks big time
Pip
Pip
lol
You mean Xamarin or actual MonoDevelop?
but there's talk of a dev build next month so I guess I can suffer it for a month
@Pip I mean whatever it is that comes with unity
Pip
Pip
Whoa, actual MonoDevelop
yeh hardcore huh ... 1 step up from notepad
Pip
Pip
21:20
that doesn't even exist on Windows anymore, other than with Unity
vs2015 should work on win10 if 2013 doesn't. I'd download the preview of that.
tried both
huh, that is odd
they get right to the end then require a reboot
during the reboot everything freezes
then you have to reinstall the OS
league is also broken on win10 right now. I wonder how many other things it'll break...
21:21
or do a "refresh"
league doesn't break the whole os, though, lol
the current build is a bit bare bones though @IcyDefiance so don't panic too much
the current build is literally "here's windows explorer guys have a play"
yeah, I didn't even have problems with vista, so I'm not that worried
oh and "we tweaked the start menu"
but hey "we gave you a broken version of cortana too"
I just hope they put the search function back in the start menu. Was a little annoying having a separate button and keyboard shortcut for that.
when I removed it from my laptop that was pretty much my only complaint
21:24
these days I just whack the windows key then start typing
seems to work a treat even in win 10
cortana can also find stuff for ya
yeah that didn't work when I removed it from my laptop. I had to hit...win+Q I think
maybe they reverted that change
I still have no idea and no will to solve this stupid problem I have
ooh python has separate 32 and 64 bit installers. maybe for some crazy-ass reason that's my problem...
surely you could install a 32 bit python runtime on both 23 bit and 64 bit systems though
yes but I had 64-bit python and 32-bit vim
21:28
just wouldn't be quite as efficient on 64bit i guess
@IcyDefiance ah that won't work
after reinstalling python and trying to open vim, "An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly."
god damn it
I don't even know what that means
python depends on c by the looks of htings
Pip
Pip
yes
and made a shitty call ... prob because you installed the wrong version
lol python wants a 32-bit c runtime?
does that even make sense? I have no idea
21:31
uh wtf
lol
try installing the c redistributable
@IcyDefiance if it's the 32 bit version, yes duh =p
@IcyDefiance you installed a brand new Win operating system?
no I'm just trying to get the YouCompleteMe plugin for Vim working
MS release designations: Release = alpha, SP1 = beta, SP2 = Release Candidate 1.
4
oh I saw that "league is broken on Win 10" and thought you had Win 10 on
oh no, that was just a bug report I saw on reddit
21:40
@Almo the irony ... current tech preview is probably the most stable version of windows out
a few people were complaining and then a bunch of other people were yelling at them for complaining after using a testing release
Pip
Pip
nice
that's really cool
I'm starting to think cats do understand us as well as dogs, but that they just ignore us most of the time
I cought ThEO off guard just now, said "hey kitty" and he actually responded.
Pip
Pip
lol
21:49
LOL I might have figured out the C runtime error
CMake includes a copy of msvcr90.dll, which is an old VC++ runtime. Python is finding that in PATH and it's breaking things.
yaaay obscure program conflicts
Pip
Pip
lol
whoo it works after removing CMake from PATH
:D :D :D
finally
is this a linux thing ?
21:54
it's supposed to be a linux thing, but there are windows versions
I'm using it on windows, which is causing half my problems, lol
you never get this with windows ... it just refuses to work with some obscure error that reads "open source code writers actively hate this OS so you might as well give up"
but I got it working :O
