disposable income, I fully agree with your answer. But once you tread into the territory of spending money that was needed for other necessities; this becomes more of a problem (and thus more of a reason to be concerned when you see it happen). The difference between a placebo and a scam that fools you is just how much money you're spending on it. The emperor's new clothes are funny to observe, but not if he trades away the kingdom for them. —
