If you use [title](url) in chat (or in comments), that is more readable than just a plain link. I often use a bookmarklet to get that more easily.
@DanielFischer Bookmarklet called "Formatted link to a webpage" from NormalHuman's bookmarklet is useful to get short link without user id. Here is Wayback Machine and also links to various bookmarklets. — Martin Sleziak Dec 13 '19 at 12:15
Another useful thing is that if a message contains nothing just a link to a post from a Stack Exchange site, it gets oneboxed.

@CalvinKhor I did not want to digress in this room from the mathematics to discussing chat usage - so I left a brief comment about this in another room.

this is excellent information, thank you very much
didnt mean to distract from maths :)

No distraction, but since you started a mathematical topic (Riessz-Thorin) in the other room, I did not want to digress from that.
Actually, I posted in the other room mainly to prevent it from getting frozen. (After 14 days of inactivity.) So I am glad that you posted some actual content.
I'll have to go. (It's morning in my timezone, I have to get ready to some appointment I have.)
Have a nice day!
