Q: The duplicate thread

Martin SleziakThis thread is intended to help with closure of duplicates. The main use case are situations where a first attempt at duplicate closure was not successful.1 The creation of this thread was decided here. Some basic rules: Do not use this thread for other types of closures, it is only for duplic...

Wow, I just noticed this post. Is it alright if I bump this thread with new requests? — Brahadeesh 2 mins ago
@Brahadeesh I think that should be perfectly fine.
Still, I would think that it is reasonable to try CURED first and only then go to meta.
I have made several such posts in that room. Although recently I wasn't that active in searching for duplicates.
And I see that you're using it in the same way:
in CURED, 2 hours ago, by Brahadeesh
Also, some possible duplicates: D1, D2, D3.
I responded here rather than in comments - just in case the discussion grows longer, chat is more suitable place than comments.
I have invited you to this rom, so I suppose you should get some notification about this.

Hi Martin, thanks for inviting me over here.

As far as the post on meta is concerned, some users objected to that thread. You can see several close votes reviews [in the timeline]((math.meta.stackexchange.com/posts/24972/timeline).

user185131
My impression is that the CURED regulars are already swamped with requests for closure of low-quality posts, PSQs. So, I wasn't sure whether the folks over there would have votes left over to spend on duplicate closures.

user185131
Of course, that is just my impression, no one has said so to me over there.

I guess it is still worth trying. Worst case scenario, it gets ignored.

It's curious, the close votes on that Meta post don't make sense to me because it seems to serve a purpose analogous to the Reopen Requests Thread, which is going strong. It's also interesting that all the reviews received only Leave Open votes.

Martin R also often posts there about duplicates.
One additional advantage of that rooms is that it is visited by several high rep users. If a duplicate request gets notices by a "gold badger", it might get closed by a single votes.

user185131
@MartinSleziak Ah, I see...!

I guess that the correct terminology is . But gold badger sounds like a nice term for a user having a gold badge. (Of course, if somebody tries to create puns in a foreign language, they are often rather clumsy.)

user185131
Now you've put in my mind the image of a yellow gleaming badger strutting around royally :D

user185131
@MartinSleziak I don't know how different the demographics are regarding chatrooms vs. meta — I feel that more eyes fall on the Reopen Requests thread than the CURED or GENTLE chatrooms. I could be mistaken, though.

Well, that's true. But duplicate closures are not suitable for the reopen request thread.
And, as you noticed, the duplicate thread did not really gain popularity.
Another thing is that the reopen/undelete request thread gets really bloated and with many answers it is quite likely that new posts go unnoticed.
So to prevent it getting bigger, I at least consider whether to try other options first (such as CRUDE).
But this is certainly a matter of personal preferences.

user185131
Yes, the bloating is definitely a problem with that thread...

There are some recommendations along these lines also directly in the reopen request thread.

user185131
All things considered, I think I'll try CURED as my first choice. Maybe my only choice, too. Seeing as the duplicates thread never took off, and was a bit controversial when it was active, it's better to let it be. Why poke a sleeping dragon.

> There is a reopen queue. Please wait until a post has gone through this queue, before posting here.
> In case of "small" requests, like one missing vote, it can make sense to ask in chat instead of posting here. The room CRUDE is a reasonable place for such requests.
@Brahadeesh To be honest, I would not see that a problem.

user185131
By "that" you mean the decision I came to? Sorry, your message was a bit unclear.

3:26 PM
It is true what some users objected. But for example Asaf Karagila and quid were more-or-less supportive: What to do in case of unsuccessful duplicate close vote (or flag)?
@Brahadeesh I'd think that trying the duplicate thread again might be perfectly find.
By "that" I meant "posting in the duplicate thread". Sorry for the ambiguity.

user185131
Ah, okay. I'm going through the post you linked now — it's always reassuring to know that some initiatives have mod support.

user185131
Although, Asaf wasn't a mod when he answered there, I guess (don't know about quid?).

I am not sure about quid either.

user185131
Very well, I won't completely deny that option, then. Let me see how well my requests fare in CURED. :)

Good luck!
I should try to do some other things. See you later!

See you around, Martin :)
