@MichaelRozenberg Unless I am missing something, Martin R is at the moment not directly pingable in this chatroom.

So I am not sure whether you posted this here by mistake (and wanted to use other room) or whether you wanted to ping a different users.

Some info about how pings work in chat: Does ping work in chat with no autocompletion?, How to make sure I'll be pingable in chat for a few days? and Does a direct reply to a message in chat create a notification, no matter what age the message is?

In short, if you want to get attention from a specific user, you have these three possibilities:

1. You can invite the user to a specific room. (Meta: How do I invite a user to chat?)

2. You can find a room where they are pingable. (Which you can see by checking whether the username is offered in autocomplete.)

3. You can find a room where the user posted at least one message and user reply to that specific message.

Either way, the user will receive some notification in chat.

I have mentioned this in CRUDE, where the users who voted to delete are more likely to notice this. (Well, at least they are pingable there.)

@MartinR @CarlMummert A message asking about deletion of 2163400: How prove this inequality $4(x^2+y^2+z^2)^3\ge 3[xy(x+y)+yz(y+z)+zx(z+x)]^2$ was posted in a different room. (The third delete voter is not pingable here.)
