10:58 AM
I'm surprises how little users we have in this chat? wheres the game devs at? ha :)

user92578
11:13 AM
there used to be more

user92578
then a few were banned for stupid stuff and a lot of people left

11:27 AM
I used sit in a game dev discord but it was full of not a lot of actual developers. Mostly just people with ideas.

This one has more technical knowledge.

user92578
I haven't really enjoyed a single discord server with a ton of people

user92578
Discord functions way better with smaller servers imo

12:18 PM
Large servers just seem spammy most of the time.

12:47 PM
Few but good ;)

1 hour later…
2:10 PM
@Tyyppi_77 They were banned for good reason. Insisting on pushing the rules, mainly.

They were suspended. The decision to not come back after the suspension period is theirs.

^
I should have said suspended.

so it looks like I'm a designer now

Yay! Congrats man :)

2:18 PM
just finished Knightfall, and moved to Banana (codename).
will be interesting
how you doin?

Did it work well to be a lead?

yeah very
really liked it

But being a designer is more what you want to do :P

yeah
:)

Doing good, the new project is going well here, we're kind of getting smarter bit by bit :)

2:19 PM
cool :)

We're finally getting "upgraded" to Windows 10 :P

haha :)
I'm still on 7
some people there are on 10

(And visual studio 2017)
Fortunately not, we're on Win 8.1/VS2013!
Well I guess you have to have a fleet of machines wide enough to more or less cover what the customers will use; but we're kind of small here so having much discrepancy is costly.

I feel sorry for the guy who gets assigned the crap end of the customer spectrum
"hey you have to develop in windows 95 on a Roomba attached to an etchasketch because one of our customers is using that"

Hehe :P fortunately, at least for us, the low end of the spectrum is Win 7 (but no one has a Win 7 dev station). Thing is, there are visual issues with running our software on Win 10 but we can't fix them because we don't have Win 10 dev stations :P

user92578
2:37 PM
so it turns out that I have code that works because of unsigned integers overflowing

"because of" or "in spite of"?
=[

user92578
because of

That's funny.
Will you fix it?

nwp
Is it even a bug?

user92578
std::max(0u, gridRowsBeforeActiveItem - 2)

nwp
2:44 PM
That's the same as gridRowsBeforeActiveItem - 2. Your compiler should have warned you about that.

user92578
There's this weird formula that I don't understand that calculates if grid items should be centered or if the first item should be aligned to the top (at the top of the menu)

user92578
meh I'll just add a comment and move on

3:05 PM
@Tyyppi_77 Some c++ gurus advise to not use unsigned, unless you do stuff like bit operations and such...
And they regret to have had std::size_t as an unsigned int :P

user92578
Yeah I do that nowadays but this is old code

Yeah :)
I love asking my colleagues why they do X instead of Y :P

It always enraged mine
enrages
"why are you converting your xml to json then converting it back to xml?"

"because a guy on the internet did it"

while we're on this topic, shouldn't the result of a subtraction always be signed?
(thinking about this for my language, subtract(uint, uint) -> int, subtract(sizet, sizet) -> ptrdiff, etc.)
hmm. but I guess you'd often want subtract-with-underflow if you're using uints.

user4704
3:22 PM
@Jimmy That would seem annoying, I think.

user4704
It would make using unsigned values extremely tedious.

okay, maybe for uints and bytes it would too onerous
The topic of affine measures has been in the back of my mind for a while

user4704
@Tyyppi_77 I find the scale of channels to be a problem, not the scale of the users. So a really populated server with hundreds of users? Pretty manageable for me if there's only three channels in there.

user4704
Stuff like r/gamedev's or the Graphics Programming Discord? I mostly have them muted because chasing after 30 channels of stuff is too onerous.

user4704
Better mute filtering would be nice; like if I could say "I am interested in these four channels, present them to me as a unified notification feed and ignore the rest" or something.

user4704
3:31 PM
Also Discord really needs to copy SE's reply-linking.

Everything needs to do that

user4704
I'd also like a way to tell Discord "I don't care about this server right now, please don't sit there wasting my battery loading it in the background" in a fashion that is less aggressive than my leaving the server entirely

user4704
Like a supermute.

3:45 PM
@ConnorRobinson The last answer I got was "Well I hope someone does :p"

1 hour later…
4:47 PM
@Almo Hey Almo..I was looking at your profile and saw your game called GORB. Did you make that physics engine yourself?

user92578
@ConnorRobinson It's not Almo's game, he just published it on iOS

user92578
Jon (jgallant, the dev) uses Unity's physics for the game

user92578
"just"

I see. Okay thanks for the info. It looks pretty coolio

user92578
It's a fun game yes

4:52 PM
@Almo what's it like? :D

user92578
GORB is also on Steam if you want to try it out, I think it costs like a dollar or something

I think unity uses a version of box2d.

yeah
it's not my game

5:08 PM
GORB is fun game

user92578
game is looking real nice!

this is jsut the greybox environment. just you wait :D

user92578
the atmosphere is already really awesome

Yeah, really liking the overall style.

thanks guys
now if only I can get some quality Anti Aliasing going without having to write it myself

5:52 PM
@UriPopov since you are using unity, you could use the post processing stack
it's really easy to use

@GabrieleVierti I'm using it. even version 2.0 but imho the AA still sucks balls

2 hours later…
7:52 PM
@UriPopov why? What do you need specifically that you can't get with the default post processing stack, and Msaa?

well I can just still see jagged edges and stuff

Not sure why, YouTube is suggesting bungee jump videos...
