aaah this is annoying
Jon
Jon
you poop yer pants?
Pip
Pip
mountain gen is hard :/
I have it very close using cellular automata but I don't think I'm going to get it
It pathfinds to make chains, actually
:D
probs the closest I will get
they look shitty
Jon
Jon
what is wrong with that?
aside from the missing bitmask
Pip
Pip
they aren't very... natural looking
too many square edges
not enough randomness, also too thick
but one-wide is too thin
People sure aren't taking chances with that button.
Pip
Pip
18:09
lol
Jon
Jon
I think it looks pretty good
Pip
Pip
trying out perlin noise I think
need to add that to my repertoire anyhow
Jon
Jon
cool.. you can get a lot of different kinds of data with that
Pip
Pip
yeh
Jon
Jon
check out simplex noise instead
18:12
@Noctrine oh hey. you're here. question for ya
Pip
Pip
@Jon Patented :/
@SpartanDonut What's up?
Got my Focusrite Scarlett today - big thing I notice, which I think I can get around, is that Windows detects just one generic input from USB and subsequently ignores the settings you would configure for the various outputs. I found FL studio can digitally detect and use the physical outputs though (even though its not physically plugged in)
I'm pretty sure windows only detects one input (the card itself) on mine Pod Studio as well.
It's up to programs to interface with that hardware
Sure
I feel like it must be some sort of standard driver or something though that audio software uses
18:16
Yep, just a generic midi one
I was thinking maybe there would be some middleware or something that could convert the signal into a virtual input or something that I could then leverage in VOIP / gaming / etc.
Causes some fun things when plugging in other instruments.
Check thedrivers for the scarlett - it may have a more sophisticated one.
Otherwise I can run a physical cable to my line in on my pc obviously
Jon
Jon
oh man
you can play pacman on google maps
check it out. lol, there is a pacman button
My keyboard runs over the generic one and all the fun buttons that control things in like cubase play as if they were piano keys in - say - synthesia.
18:19
@Jon Moar questions
That more or less makes sense. My mic works just via USB. My complaint is that it's coming through the left channel. The mixing software / drivers fixes that as long as I use one of the outputs since I can map the mix to one or more outputs
Problem is I can't map anything to the standard USB output
Looking to get some multifunctional use out of this
Should work great for actual audio recording
@SpartanDonut You may also have a really good question for the audio stackexchange.
Do you use FL for audio recording?
@Jon You said earlier that the Dot script didn't extend from nondevelop, then how does it know when all obejcts has been loaded
Right now that's what I did my testing through
There was a time (mostly to mess with friends) where I used the pod studio as my audio input in like skype.
Then I could apply filters to my voice
Jon
Jon
18:21
@Hjorthenify how does what know?
The whatever that creates the grid
Thats kind of what I'm looking for. I just need the software to do it. Does FL support that?
Jon
Jon
What I am currently doing, is I have a gameobject, with a Grid script -- that initializes the dots, and then generates the grid
in the Awake()
I don't know the terminology to search for. Just the theory of what I'm trying to do xD
18:22
@SpartanDonut Not sure, what software came with it?
And then you pass on the data to somethin gelse and deletes the object?
I've only installed the drivers / mixer
Came with some other stuff I can download... 1 sec
So, no software? or you don't know?
They made me register online and gave me a list of things I could download
I was going for the bare minimum and ignored the rest
Bundled Software:
Ableton Live Lite
Scarlett Plugin Suite
Novation Bass Station
Free Loopmasters Content
Red Plugin Suite
Then the actual software is "Scarlett Mix Control 1.8" which is what allows me to map mixings to outputs
And included the driver
Jon
Jon
@Hjorthenify I am not sure what you are asking here
18:25
You also said that you deleted the object later on
Jon
Jon
the gameobjects -- i don't use them if i am not debugging
the dot objects i don't delete
So when the jobs is done(raycasting) you delete the object and passes the array onto a gamehelper or something
Might try the Scarlett Plugin suite
Jon
Jon
naw, I retain the dot/connections
that is the game map
the array just stores the dot at an x,y position
18:26
Yes
Jon
Jon
the dot has the data on its neighbors
So a gameobject appears
Jon
Jon
no gameobject.
Does a tonne of raycastings
Jon
Jon
just a object.
18:27
and builds the dot list
Jon
Jon
Right.
GameObject
the Grid
I accidentally pressed it when I didn't want to and now I don't have any presses left. :(
THE INTERNET JUST DIED
Jon
Jon
same.
18:28
Oh
Jon
Jon
anyways.. i think i'm gonna clean this up and create a standalone solution
Had to reload the page.. We're good the internet is not dead, yet.
Jon
Jon
and post it to my blog
:O
When will this be?
Jon
Jon
i dunno when i have time for it
18:29
I'll get started on my own then
Or try to at least :P
Jon
Jon
Yeah, its not an easy task :)
I bet.
How can I make an object immoveable in Unity?
Setting both to kinematic disables collision..
Im thinking about giving it a huge mass, but dunno
Jon
Jon
don't give it a rigidbody
it won't move
Jon
Jon
or if you need it, set IsKinematic to true
18:31
I have to fix my rendering too.. My background is drawn on top of everything
Yeah but two kinematic characters doesn't collide
Jon
Jon
they dont' move
why would they
Pip
Pip
it got down to 28 seconds XD
Jon
Jon
your map gen?
ohhh
the button, lol
there are probably like 100 people waiting on it to reach like 3 seconds
its gonna go on for a while
@SpartanDonut Actually, FL should since it has the performance mode. Should be able to support live audio out.
But that plugin suite sounds like it should have something good.
Sorry, got nerd-sniped by something else.

UGH!

theres 4% of a hidden message in there somewhere bros

@Jon is Mathf.PerlinNoise reproducible if you set Random.seed?
Jon
Jon
dunno
from what I am reading, it seems it might always use the same seed
Joe
Joe
I walked through these motions, and ended up just importing libnoise
Jon
Jon
The same coordinates will always return the same sample value but the plane is essentially infinite so it is easy to avoid repetition by choosing a random area to sample from.
Joe
Joe
18:38
it does everything you want better
Jon
Jon
it is a little over kill for what he needs it for
Pip
Pip
aaaahhh I seee
Jon
Jon
you could specific an offset as your "seed"
Pip
Pip
their example has an xOrg and a yOrg, I think that's the offset
Jon
Jon
but this generator seems lacking
Pip
Pip
18:39
yeah
It seems fine for what I need it for, will probably write my own eventually though
Jon
Jon
cant set frequency, amplitude and stuff
Pip
Pip
yeah
Jon
Jon
hmmm
actually you can write that yourself
if you want to sample a higher frequency, you can just xvalue/frequency
Pip
Pip
true
Hmmmmm
Seems the plugin suite is VST plugins
@Noctrine another confusing thing is how FL studio wants the same audio device for input and output?
So if I want to record I can't hear
18:47
@SpartanDonut use Asio4All
Meta: When/why did we start using the ^ syntax instead of ++?
++ has trouble with the message being higher up. Leaving you no real choice but to reply, which gets irritating. For the person you are "++"-ing.
Joe
Joe
^ /signed?
++ ^3? ++ ^5?
++^-1
18:51
Ok with Asio4All it looks like it records and I can hear my pc audio but I can't hear FL Studio playback
Joe
Joe
@TreDubZedd see you cant use the Prefix Increment Operator after someone says something though, thats blashpemy
@SpartanDonut FL has to be set to use Asio Drivers, you may also need to restart.
hm. You have a point.
My problem with Asio is usually, when I want to switch to things outside of music stuff and the program doesn't want to play nicely with them :\
I think I might just have Asio4All misconfigured
don't really know what I'm doing lol
oh I got it
Yeah now FL hijacked my PC audio lol
Might just be easier to run a cable from the scarlett to the pc xD

looks sexy, id buy the case i guess lol

user4704
Anybody know what happens if you fork a private repo on Github?
user4704
Does it stay private?
That makes me wonder - would a smoke bomb be an effective test of the ventilation of my coffee table case.
@JoshPetrie It does
Joe
Joe
19:35
@JoshPetrie havent done it but I imagine it would have to
user4704
Excellent.
They also shouldn't need a paid plan to do it
If you scroll down a bit, it's there.
> Collaborators may fork any private repository you’ve added them to without their own paid plan. Their forks do not count against your private repository quota.
20:00
> UInt64 Structure
Represents a 64-bit unsigned integer.
This API is not CLS-compliant. The CLS-compliant alternative is Decimal.
Decimal?!
@OMGtechy I guess they mean, if you want your code to run on any CPU (not just 64bit ones), you shouldn't use Uint64
@Ali.S unsigned types (except byte) aren't supported at all. I'm thinking it's because there isn't an Int128 in the CLS, but I'd rather they just said "there isn't one" than bleeding Decimal
user4704
@Ali.S No, unsigned types are CTS compliant.
user4704
So they aren't CLS compliant either
20:04
It really annoys me
user4704
"Alternative" just means "can represent the range you want"
user4704
64-bit integers are perfectly usable on 32-bit machines. Just requires extra work.
I was considering putting my language on the CLR so I could use the .NET shizzle, but this unsigned stuff is upsetting to me.
I know I could just use it internally and not expose it in an API.
@Ali.S "If you are stolen, call the police at once"
xD
user4704
It may not matter that much, it mostly depends on if you want to interoperate yourself
user4704
In particular, with languages that don't support unsigned types.
user4704
20:11
Which are usually dumb languages so who cares?
ahaha
You make a good point though; if I care about interopping with those languages that don't support it then I'll have the exact same problems outside of the CLR
user4704
Yeah.
user4704
A bigger question is do you want your language to be on CLR? Versus, say, building in on llvm.
Mmm, LLVM feels more ... "free" to me
but having .NET at the languages disposal is a huge bonus
Of course in the long run both could be made, but this is about what I do first.
@Jon This is basically what slack.com is - web-based (or app-based) chat, desktop notifications, invite-only, #channels, private messages
I use it with a few friends and it reminds me a lot of SE chat
20:16
holy shit "1" won the daily contest this time
lol
so I went to my local gamedev meetup again last night
@Almo wowz
@Chris how'd it go?
the three guys that are making Phantasmal were letting people play it, steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=291861158
was cool eh. a couple guys from Google Admob talked for a bit about their mobile admob stuff, um and the Swordy / Frogshark devs were there showing off too, swordygame.com
and people coming up to me asking how tallowmere's going haha
aha
talking of which, how IS it going?
swordy looks cool
20:22
#aklgamedev http://t.co/RlRbWMUsub
@OMGtechy it goes! working on iOS version atm
though the tax year just ended and I feel like doing some filing today
you feel like it?!
all to their own
get it over and done
lol
Joe
Joe
man.... I have like 14 days to do all that stuff
crap
heh
for me it's literally going through my paypal account, and basically my computer hardware and license costs for the past year
will probably come up with a negative balance brought forward
Hello Chris!
20:29
hey
Jon
Jon
hay
the button is still going
Jon I have no idea how to get started on this..
Jon
Jon
like i said, simple concept, difficult execution
Jon
Jon
i'll see about cleaning up the implementation and posting the code
20:34
Paradox added the Chirper to their other games.. I like the hashtags #ThouOnlyLivethOnce and #BLITZKRIEG
lawl haha
Jon
Jon
Mineplex, everyone is a cow, and your name is changed to moosomething
and when you chat, random moos are added to your text
Thanks!
@Joe far out, .google as a TLD? heh
I should make a projectile factory.
The only difference between projectiles are size, graphics and damage.
Seems wasteful to create a class for each type.
20:39
go for it
Might as well just change the parts on the projectile itself.
How did you do it Chris?
I didn't lol
each projectile has no class inheritance or anything
You don't have different projectiles? :P
the only similar factor to each projectile is their damage amount and a collider/trigger to check for collision I think
but no factory or shared class
Jon
Jon
sometimes that is easiest.
20:42
@Almo ha?
each projectile is not stored in a shared list or anything, no need for an inherited type, unlike say my weapons and potions, they are all InventoryItems, and various child classes from that
the hero and enemies are derived from a Creature class, but it's very vague, not many vars
Yeah, I guess Unity handles a lot of the factory stuff for you. You just use the system.
@Jon You are wecome!
I was doing some testing the othe other day, instantiating prefabs and destroying them, instiating them again without using a pooling system
zero memory increase for a lot of instantiating and destroying, was quite impressed
must have some good built-in pooling
Pip
Pip
wow
That's certainly changed since Unity 4
20:53
I actually have no homework due this week...wtf am I supposed to do now...
it feels so weird
@Pip I think you're right eh
@IcyDefiance play a game of LoL tonight
Pip
Pip
@Chris any experience with Unity's Mathf.PerlinNoise ?
yeah I can do that. tutoring now though. can't leave for another hour.
tutoring has also been real quiet today, so I've been through everything on the top 10 pages of reddit
Pip
Pip
/r/thebutton
20:55
@Pip nope sorry
I'll be on later
will beep you then
Pip
Pip
kk thanks
lol yeah I saw the button. clicked it too.
Pip
Pip
I'm looking for an implementation of Perlin for mountain gen
tried hacking the button to let me click it again, and it worked, but it didn't change my flair or anything
Pip
Pip
20:56
lol
How did you do that?
gotta change a div's class from "pressed" to "active"
I think it was a div
i have not clicked it
apparently there's supposed to be a cheater flair for people who did what I did, but it's glitched or something, I'm not sure
I feel mildly cheated
Pip
Pip
:D
haha
