Jon
9:00 PM
lol.. or, just a bunch of levels that you have to navigate to the end

@MLM ohh that makes sense...but I thought when I said "generate 3 quads instead of one" it was pretty obvious to do it for each of the triangle's 3 vertices

MLM
@IcyDefiance Now that I know what to do yes but I think it is nice for someone else to be able to understand and reference the actual shader to connect the dots

N+ was awesome. I still play that every so often when I'm bored enough. Anything close to it would be a pretty cool game.
@MLM ehh I'm trying to reword it, but without writing code in the answer everything else just sounds awkward. I think I'll keep it how it is.
I guess I could write code in the answer...

MLM
tbh, if I was a gazer who stumbled upon the answer trying to solve my problem, not sure it would sink in. Some final code would be great
That is a problem I have with the answers to this question: gamedev.stackexchange.com/q/81686/16587 - Shaders are too hard for me at the moment without examples. The syntax, type names, etc is just so unfamiliar, and usually platform specific
Code looks good

ooh I get a notification when an edit is suggested on my posts

MLM
@Jon I keep getting stuck to the ground

Jon
really?

Pip
cool, I like it

MLM
@Jon When trying to push boxes around to get the first one
I can move side to side but can't jump

Jon
ah ok interesting.. that shouldn't happen, lol

9:18 PM
got stuck again

Jon
weird, i haven't gotten stuck once

Pip
@MLM spacebar
neither have I

MLM
@Pip mhm

Pip
kk

Jon
ah it happened.. my grounded calc is bad
if you jump a lot
wow rare but it happens i saw it, cool

9:19 PM
I won. Now what.

Jon
lol i'm just considering a physics based platformer
i think it would be really fun

Jon man, I'm sure your prodigious game dev talents could be put to better use than making another platformer.

Jon
guide me

ehh there aren't many platformers on the level of N. I'd love to see another one if Jon can pull it off.

I just say that because personally, I don't like platformers, and think there are already too many of them. ;)

9:22 PM
I think only the "shit platformer" market is oversaturated

Jon
strip it to the bare mimimum

MLM
I liked Leo's Fortune on Android but agree with Almo

Last one I really liked was Outland

Jon
leo's fortune is left/right/jump

but then, if I had any good game ideas, I wouldn't be making another framework

9:24 PM
Thomas was Alone was ok

Jon
oh, and stick
Thomas was Alone is awesome

I liked it until I was done with the story part.
there were some clever puzzles in there.
Also liked Braid.

Jon
Did you like Mario?

Some serious WTF in there. :)
Not really.

Jon
metroid?

9:25 PM
oh, for clever puzzles, there was an awesome one I got from a humble bundle...forget the name but it should be in my steam account somewhere...

Only played Metroid Prime.
I didn't like its style though

I prefer Mario gameplay over Braid gameplay
momentum driven platforming is fun for me

I don't like wondering if I have the tools to do something presented to me
Braid only made that mistake once.
"Hmm. Can I get up there? If not, I'll waste a lot of time trying. But if I can and I leave, I'll waste time because whereever I go, I'll probably get stuck because I will need something I can get from up there."

The Swapper

I really, really hate that.

Jon
9:26 PM
one of the puzzles where you have to put the puzzle piece and then jump on top of it

The Swapper is all puzzles, not so much jumping challenges, and the puzzles are very well made. I never did beat it entirely...probably should go back sometime...

@SpartanDonut I agree that mario's got better feel. but I hate the level design.

Jon
my 360 crapped out..
which I had bought it on

@Almo 1st pipe op

Jon
my old 80s NES still works .. and my original commodore64 also

MLM
9:28 PM
I liked Gunpoint, more puzzle or stealth

:D
right well I gotta head out. talk later!

don't tell me what to do!
shit I obeyed

Jon
wait @Almo

MLM
ibb & obb was fun. Nice coop

Jon
what kind of game should I make?

9:29 PM
whatever motivates you to finish a game. if that's a platformer, so be it. :)

finishing projects > all
(in my opinion anyway)

Jon
i'm dying right now
I was wondering how you could possibly use that gif in a game
this guy delivered.

^

Pip
alright, cya all
Hahaha

9:46 PM
Hello !

Jon
how do you pronounce that anyways
Hjorth

Jort

Jon
where is that from?

Hjort means deer in danish :)

Jon
ahhh
you swede?

9:48 PM
No, I'm danish

Jon
mark?

What?

Jon
denmark

Yes. I come from Denmark

Jon
i used to pick that country when I played winter games on the commodore

9:49 PM
Why? xD
Because we have mild winters compared to the other nordics?

Jon
I thought, that they were awesome at winter sports
so it would give me an edge

Ahh I see :P

Jon
also, my big brother picked canada
so i was forced to choose something else

Well I'm glad my country could help you out :)

Jon
i seem to recall that screen scrolled
but those are two diferent versions

9:52 PM
Yeah

Jon
maybe i picked netherlands

I'm too young for the commodore

Jon
it was a long time ago
its what got me hooked man

:D
What are you up to Jon?
@KevinvanderVelden Uses what? :P

Jon
oh going out in a bit

10:04 PM
Alright

10:16 PM
@Jon i played a lot of that

Jon
figure skating i would get 6.0 every time, lol
just fall over and over.. id on't know why but it gave you top score if you did that
easter egg i would guess
unless i had a hacked copy.
hahaha, which was quite possible in those days

hahaha
i remember really liking the waving guys on the sides of the kyak course
they waved.
probably an interrupt chaning the character graphics

Jon
that is summer games :D
winter games, summer games, california games
3 really awesome games on the c64 :)

Well Jon I think you've found out what game to make next! :D

Jon
nope

10:24 PM
No remake of the sports game?

Jon
heh..

@Hjorthenify I'm afraid I've lost the context

Jon
@Almo, you in on this?

@KevinvanderVelden Something with Godot and a library

in on what?

10:25 PM
Ooh right

Jon
remaking old sports games

I was saying that I was using bgfx (rendering engine), Godot uses that too

Jon
gotta go for now
bbl

Ahh I see

@Jon I have too many projects to do myself already
I have a queue of about 4 phone games that already have prototypes

10:28 PM
@Hjorthenify oh, btw. If you're not on mobile, you can hover over a message and the icon that appears on the right side of it allows you to reply to that specific one. That way I can click on your message to find out what you're replying to =p

@KevinvanderVelden Awesome!

Wasn't there this exact question this week that was marked as duplicate?? gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/97022/…

@Hjorthenify :) You've probably spotted the arrow at the left of your message to know what to click :p

MLM
On Android Chrome you can just use "Request desktop site" to get full functionality

@MLM yes, but it's still a mobile browser, which means it's pretty hard to hit a tiny icon that only appears when you hover over something

10:31 PM
@KevinvanderVelden Yes. Yes I have.

10:55 PM
Wiee, combining C macros and C++ lambdas :D
Is the universe imploding yet?

hooooly shit if anyone here is into league, you need to watch this LCS match: youtube.com/watch?v=cqMnNkmkGcw&t=445
most exciting league match I've ever seen, including the ones I've played

11:12 PM
@chris hey
maybe bug in wheel
have weapon in top slot
assign another weapon to that slot, the old weapon vanishes off the wheel, and I don't see how to get it back on
maybe they should switch places or something... not really sure
ok figured it out
:)

11:35 PM
@IcyDefiance Can you help me? :D

what did you break?

@IcyDefiance Your ice castle.
Its a question about bitbucket

predicted answer: use branches

O_o

dunno why. just seems like a useful thing to do.

11:39 PM
I managed to make my downloads public, but my source code went public as well xD
So how can I make a branch private?

ohh yeah, making the repo private will do the same to the downloads

Yeah..
Soo not possible?

the issue about it is marked wontfix: bitbucket.org/site/master/issue/1087/…

Damn
Well thats a huge minus

> We have decided that we will not be implementing public downloads for repos with private source. Our goal is to build a product where folks collaborate around writing source code and not build a distribution platform for binary files. There are several low cost services that are optimized for distributing binary files, such as Amazon S3 or Rackspace which we recommend.
seems they want to save on bandwidth

11:42 PM
Yes it does.

You can always host the downloadable files somewhere else

Damn

you can always stick the files on mega.co.nz or something

Right. Bitbucket would just have been more convenient :P
50GB FREE STORAGE?! WHAT

you can set the repo landing page to the wiki and make that public while the rest of the repo is private
stick links to mega on the main page of the wiki
you can make the issue tracker public too for people to report bugs

11:45 PM
I see
Not gonna release anything yet, but I'll consider the wiki thingy :D
@IcyDefiance is there a way to not encrypt uploaded files for mega+

just include the key with the link. there should be a checkbox for it there somewhere.

Yes, but I still find it silly :P
If anyone want to see the stuff I'm working at(began Wednesday) here you go: mega.co.nz/…

mega encrypts the files because the creator got abused by the US government, so afterward he created mega with the intention of being fully incapable of viewing the contents of a file even if he wanted to.
can't access the files without a key, and can't access the key without your password, which is hashed on his end...at least I think that's how it works
but if you include the key with the link then to any downloaders it's identical to being unencrypted
