8:00 PM
That's why we can't move our arms in a six while our feet move left
It's a bug in the Human file.

@hasherr no

which is in brainfuck, which is why it's not yet fixed

if my game didn't look like this right away

when they wrote us they wrote a piece of code like this

I would be unhappy with it

8:01 PM
using olive oil to fry things sure leaves a very nice smell in the kitchen
in Romania, if I were to estimate, 98% of all households use sunflower oil to fry things

int numOfPositions = 6; // THEY DONE GOOFEED, IT SHOULD BE INT.MAX
for (int i=0; i<numOfPositions; i++)
{
    moveArmAndLegWithNumberTrick(i);
}
@GnomeSlice Very few games look decent
It's about finding a balance that looks good while not being triple-A quality.

@hasherr Yeah, well. I launched blender the other day. Looked at it for 2 minutes, and then closed it again.
I'm not an artist.

is that wasteland 2?

That's what everybody does

Or a programmer
so why would I try to make games?

8:03 PM
Because making games is fun.

damn :(
they all look the same
I'll get Wasteland 2 when it gets cheaper
I hope it's at least as good as Fallout 2
Fallout 2 was like :| -> :\ -> :/ -> :)

I have this idea for a game
it's not even original

Fallout 1 was like :) -> :D -> :O -> :D -> :DDDDDDDDDDDddddddddd d

@GnomeSlice Make it
Quit yer bitchin'

8:05 PM
@AlexM. Dude. Check out Underrail

df was like :| -> :F -> :D -> >:( -> :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD -> o_O -> :DDDD

@hasherr no

Why not?

Because I don't know how.
And am not motivated to learn.

You come in here and say that you donwloaded unity
Then you say you have a good idea for a game
But then you tell me you aren't motivated enough to make it
I'm not sure what you're trying to communicate. Are you trying to tell me to make it for you?

8:08 PM
No.
I just like complaining.
I guess.

k

...I think once you have an idea, it kinda grows from within you. It grows slowly to the point your mind cannot confine. Only once it reaches pillar of your mind then you finally do something. Till then I am going to keep practicing rotating my foot while drawing 6.
oh and if anyone read "Negima! Magister Negi Magi". The author started new series. Pretty good.

@hasherr wgtghnserfdgkdntb
Stop making me feel bad about myself

underrail.com I suppose games like this must have narrow audience, the play style is pretty hardcore for modern gamers like myself; no fancy graphic, slow tempo. These devs must be more self determined than the rest; don't think you get as much support from the public as the rest other indie projects due to its genre.
also it's not one man dev. One female(appears, I think) dev.

8:24 PM
Ugh, I'm so hungry in a hotel room with no food
I might have to go exploring for a vending machine or something

no fruits in the minibar?

I don't even know if this room has a minibar
Regardless, my parents will kill me if I touch it

@GnomeSlice I already bought it

Because according to them only bill Gates could afford the minibar.

didn't get the chance to play it a lot but since it's a story driven RPG I'd rather play it more at release
I mostly wanted to help them alphafund it
because it's not often someone actually makes a true Fallout game
@hasherr lel ikr

8:27 PM
Faack, I need food
All I had to eat was a bagel while I was driving

I ate tortellini

I ate chicken and rice with some sauce
it was yummy

I'll fry myself some chicken with rice next weekend too

I want chicken stir fry
I want asian food right now

I also ate fried cheese today

8:29 PM
can u fry cheese?

yes

that's some mad skill u got there.

I took a pic of one of my fried cheeses a long time ago

that looks nice

8:30 PM
let me see if I can find it again

@AlexM. You should come to America. We'll fry your hand if you give it to us.

@BlueBug the cheese is coated in crumbs

oh my gosh is that like patch of cheese fried? O_O why mcDonalds is not serving this?

At fairs here you can get Fried Butter, Fried Marshmallows, Fried Oreos, Fried Snickers, Fried peanut butter
Pretty much anything you want.

fried ostrich penis?

8:31 PM
Yes.

cheese is tied with pasta for the 2nd best food in the world

I hear that's delicacy

the best food in the world is cheese + pasta

Nope, never heard of that lol
@AlexM. Mac n' Cheese

Cheeseburgers pls

8:32 PM
Murica'

lol

I'm Canadian
but yeah pretty much

Cheese in macNcheese is not even real cheese. It's some butter-goo.

I'm just pasting pics to tease hasherr because I know he's hungry

@BlueBug normally, when I say cheese + pasta I mean
pasta + tomato sauce and Parmigiano-Reggiano powder

8:34 PM

@BlueBug KD maybe. Not real mac n cheese

@hasherr If this did happen in finland, our leaders would ban american flags and matches

and fire

yes, fire too

EVEN OUR FLAGS DON'T GO OUT WITHOUT A FIGHT

8:35 PM
and anything that helps fire exist

FREEDOM REIGNS

like oxygen

@GnomeSlice KD? never heard of

@BlueBug You have not lived.

lol

8:37 PM
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraft_Dinner ohh.. "Kraft Dinner" KD... so cheap. ewhewh... I don't like them. They r too oily.

I would help Bug out and say he's Korean
but he's studying in the US
so he has no excuse

HE CAME TO THIS COUNTRY FOR A REASON
lol
God damn, /r/Murica makes me laugh so hard.

the only KDs I got were from vending machines. Maybe vending machine KDs have lower quality but they taste so bad.

# why are americans so good at photoshoppe?

Because we're american. We're good at everything.

8:40 PM
damit # I am so jealous

Haha, just to make sure I'm not misunderstood, I'm totally kidding.
I don't put myself above anybody for being American.

I put myself above everybody because I live close to Canada.
HURR
Alright, I'm going to go find food. see you guys in a bit.

actually I like that cake. It's very straight forward; I am fucking goo of sugar creams.
now days cakes have too much stuff around it. I just want some sugar with bread.

it's chocolate vanillacreme cherry jam and chili

8:45 PM
@Lasse best cake

why chili though? Chili? with sugar? hmm...

idk
chili and chocolate go well together

really? Never tried chili with anything sweet. that's odd.

user4704
I mean I wouldn't dump a Hershey's bar into a bowl of chili.

> Behind the scenes, that query is securely beamed up to Bing along with contextual pieces that help us hone in on the fuller meaning of that query. We use meta-data like the project type, semantic context (using the new C#/VB compiler services aka ‘Roslyn’!), and a few other sprinkles of Microsoft Research magic.
I wonder if Bing Code Search will get banned in certain places
due to Microsoft receiving info about each project on each query

8:49 PM
so maybe not like bowl chili inside, but like dried meaty chili inside the cake? hmm... still that sounds odd.

user4704
Depending on how much it captures, we couldn't even use it internally.

makes sense

user4704
@BlueBug Yeah that isn't the way to do it.

anyway I'll try not to focus too much on bing search in my article, and just get to the point

user4704
You'd put chocolate -- the higher cacao percentages usually -- inside the chili.

user4704
8:50 PM
Or, you put chili peppers inside chocolate bars.

user4704
The flavors pair, but not all manifestations thereof do.

Our local chocolate factory makes chocolate with bits of chili powder in it

that(higher cacao) makes more sense .

not much though

user4704
It's fairly common among boutique chocolate makers or those trying to ride the trends.

8:51 PM
they have done it for years
chili and coffee works too
it makes the coffee flavours come out better

do u drink coffee after? or while u eat the chili?

after the chili or while eating the chili, does not really matter
depends on preference I guess

@AlexM. So I can say that sliced bread is the greatest thing since betty white...and be correct? :D

I guess :D

8:56 PM
that one about the fax machine and the oregon trail i find the most hard to believe

didn't bother checking them but Wikipedia should have everything required

yeah, its just a real 'wwoah' moment

I think the thing seems unbelievable because it shows a very recent fax machine
I'm sure the first fax machine was a huge pile of... stuff

I wonder how crappy the first fax was

9:00 PM
hi

When doing floating comparisons in shaders, do you have to take extra precaution when using the == operator?

you don't really compare floats with ==
in any language

Lets say I want to compare two pixels and check if they're the same color.

@Lasse And if they were equally confused as people today when they still have the sheet of paper afterwards

From my understanding, shaders tend to work in the range 0.00 .. 1.00 for color components.
That's 0,00390625 per color increment if I'm using 256 color depth.

9:02 PM
abs(a - b) < EPSILON;
epsilon is the tolerance

Yeah, that's the proper way, but does that apply to shaders as well?

yes

I mean, branching on shaders is bad, so you'd think they'd do something to avoid it.

@ToddersLegrande shit, I forgot about the jam site :O

But I guess you're already doing a comparison, so that doesn't apply. :P

9:03 PM
fuck, and nobody said anything

Alright, that's what I'll do then.

from my experience, if statement slows down shader much. I avoided using conditions at all when I am shaderring.

"they" don't do anything to avoid it, you need to do it yourself

wait I forgot about the jam altogether wtf
gotta make the next jam by beginning of next month

@BlueBug, I'm just toying with letting the GPU handle tiling based on neighbors

9:05 PM
in the shaders, the blocks where the condition is not met is run anyway, just with read-only memory flag set active

I has returned! With foodz!

@Lasse, Do you know much about shaders?

not too much, I'm still learning myself

Ah
I was thinking I could just use integers, but I'm unsure what shaders support that.
I'm using MonoGame and their shader compiler which allow me to compile "vs_3_0" and "ps_3_0".

I don't know anything about HLSL
I just use GLSL

9:13 PM
@Lasse I can find why branching is bad in shaderring, but I can't find any source to understand "where the condition is not met is run anyway" may u elaborate?

@Lasse Well this should end us as GLSL. It's an OpenGL project.
What's the least version you need for integer support in GLSL?

if(condition) {
   value = somehardcomputation();
} else {
   value = 1;
}
@BlueBug if the condition is not met, the somehardcomputation is done anyway, just with read-only memory

o_o that sounds very odd

I read that the threads will pause and wait for the other threads to catch up.

what if condition is met, then will the rest "else" executed?

9:15 PM
yeah they do that
if the condition is met, then the else will be run in read-only

@William'MindWorX'Mariager I don't know

@BlueBug The Community! :D

YES! (mind blown)

Lovely show
Doesn't have even the slightest hint of a storyline. Just a bunch of sketches :P

9:19 PM
HLSL have these weird [unroll] and etc stuff which can be applied on if clauses and for loops
I have no idea what they actually do to the code
10
A: How much performance do conditionals and unused samplers/textures add to SM2/3 pixel shaders?

Andrew RussellSetting a texture on the GPU takes some CPU time, but it is reasonably small in comparison to the actual batch cost. More importantly, it should have no impact at all on the actual shader execution, if the shader never references it. Now, there are three ways that branching can be handled: Firs...

2
this applies to GLSL too I believe
I'm gonna go sleep, night

I think I can avoid conditionals using the "all" function.

for some reason I instructed Vim to open up the build log... with notepad
instead of just opening a new buffer for it
I'm still not sure why I did that

amphetamines?

why the hell did I think about using notepad for that

n = all(current - topLeftSample) * 1
n += all(current - topSample) * 2
n += all(current - topRightSample) * 4
etc.

9:34 PM
definetly heavy drugs

Not sure if that's faster than conditionals though.

@Leggy7 lol
this works great as background music
and it's like 9 hours of it

@AlexM. Why woudl you ever use Notepad

I dunno man

9:51 PM
Supposedly we're getting a new long-term project in CS class next week.
I'm really excited

yeah, I gotta do one too, but it's really easy and I have like 3 months to do it

Lol, what's yours?

I forgot

And I'll proably only have like 2 weeks, and I'll have to do it in C++.
facepalm
I kind of like C++ now.

I'm having one of these again
the beer is 3x more beautiful IRL
it's like, pitch black
you literally can't see through it

9:54 PM
ha
What's drinking age in Romenya?

18

I assumed 5.

yeah, kids start drinking at about 10, and nobody cares
mainly because nothing bad happens

lol

it rural areas it's common for parents to share a glass with their sons

9:55 PM
o_o
Can I come stay with you?

sure
alcohol abuse is bad

lol

occasional drinking is NOT bad

Everything in moderation.

whoever says "alcohol is bad for your health" is a fucking retard

9:56 PM
Well, to be truthful, you're literally drinking poison
Poison for your brain.

sorry, nope
the beer I posted above is made in my city
it's not the best of its kind that I tasted, but it sure feels unique

> It Can Improve Your Libido

it has a taste that I'd best describe as burned wood

This is why they teach us that it's poison
Because they tell us that sex is unnatural and bad.

lol
wait a sec I got something on that

9:59 PM
Instead of saying 'We're know you're going to do it anyways, so here's how to be safe about it' they tell us how unnatural and bad it is and try to scare us away

And ever since that happened there have been more teen pregnancies every year.

there can be good components in a drink, but some r, I think, more like just alcohol + water. Soju. My favorite. It taste like watered alcohol, and is really watered alcohol with some scent.
Soju (Hangul 소주; Hanja 燒酒) is a distilled beverage native to Korea. Jinro and Lotte soju are the first and third top selling alcohol brands in the world. It is usually consumed neat. Most brands of soju are made in South Korea. It is traditionally made from rice, wheat, barley, but modern producers of soju use supplements or even replace rice with other starches, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, or tapioca. Soju is clear and colorless. Its alcohol content varies from about 16.7%, to about 45% alcohol by volume (ABV) for traditional Andong soju, with 20% ABV being most common. However,...

I wonder when somebody is going to get pregnant at my school this year...

10:02 PM
^hurhurhur

morale of the story: start eating horses
they think you're ugly

I'm okay with this.
The eating bit.

10:21 PM
I can never get enough of this song

A: Call a method without calling it

AaronaughtC# We can abuse the DLR to always execute some code whenever you try to call any method on a class. This is slightly less cheap/obvious than solutions like delegates, reflections, static constructors, etc., because the method being executed is not only never invoked but never even referenced, no...

this seems interesting

10:44 PM
@alexm. stopnow

what

plates start DLR... he didn't finish writing it
not sure I agree with your police work there, Lou.

@AlexM. too sn34ky 5 u
Yes that is reflection.
In Unity Free. Without GrabPass.
Only way to achieve this is to use Texture2D.ReadPixels but I'm not entirely sure how performance friendly that's going to be in the future. I have two textures. The texture grabbed from the frame buffer and the gradient texture itself. I combine the two textures into one texture and slap it onto the dynamic water mesh and, fwoosh - you have reflection.

did you just take a picture of your screen
what is that

@AlexM. water

10:54 PM
I saw that
nice

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/130520/realtime_glow.php

Probably the best article I found on implementing real-time glow cheaply
I am also attached to this article
IT SHOULD STAY UP FOR EVER
5 everyone to SEE
it's not dry like the stuff you read on the other technical articles.

A: Call a method without calling it

ughoavgfhwObjective-C (Probably only if compiled with clang on Mac OS X) #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <objc/runtime.h> void unusedFunction(void) { printf("huh?\n"); exit(0); } int main() { NSString *string; string = (__bridge id)(void*)0x2A27; // Is this really valid? ...

this one is hardcore

That is physically and emotionally impossible.
Unless you somehow told someone to call the person that you intended on calling.

shut up and make an account on that website
then upvote my question
#brosb4logic

u r after the rep?
#brosb4rep

11:03 PM
no lol but I got two downvotes that did not explain the reason
and I want to make up for it

logging in and upvoting

brofist

OKAY glow shader time. super focus. very focus.

I'm a bit surprised that people seem to upvote the most obvious solution
changing the return address on the stack when exiting a method, in C
I think there are better solutions there, that are much harder to get

Omg. Unity Free makes everything so difficult. Hmm. Apparently the render target feature is pro only. neeeearggghhh
aha offscreen buffer
PRO ONLY
flipping tables

11:11 PM
unity free doesn't allow you to make anything other than gameplay
sorry

I refuse to believe this. Challenge Accepted @AlexM.
I mean that's their aim, but there have people that have made some really neat looking projects(with bloom - or faux bloom) in the indie version.
there is a way to get around the render texture issue

just use Godot
or unreal engine

I would but I'm too invested in Unity now.
Actually after im done with this project in unity im going to opengl
something low-level =)

so you'll stop making games? :(

Haha
It might take me another year or two to learn OpenGL and get comfortable with it but it will pay off I think. So when I get myself up to speed with it I'll be making things like generative art or screensavers(which are fun)
In fact, I had this idea for a screen saver which just involved line renderers, a timer, a bloom shader, and some procedural meshes.
Basically generate a bunch of "buildings" which are just rectangles, with perhaps some small rectangles stacked on top of the bases of the buildings to give it some variation. Giving them a transparent texture, while using the line render to give a trace effect from edge to vertice
inspiration: tron opening
@AlexM. I WILL STOP MAKING LE GAMes
I have 2 months to get down into indie cade
or rather. at a presentable state.

11:22 PM
what's with you and screensavers
you know nobody uses screensavers anymore right?

@AlexM. I fight for the users.
@AlexM. Yes
but it's fun to do =)

I guess
how's Down going?

it's going up
haeiaehaeaeh

is that bad or good
lol

good.

11:26 PM
aight

currently trying to find out how to apply a texture to a camera (without a pro license)
don't think it's possible. Okay I give up
possible.
