Hm. Quite a take at that thread. I still view this as falling outside the scope and purview of this community platform.
In fact, OP in that thread already seemed to know whom to contact or hire. The case here is different.
In any case, if someone wishes to consult someone, they should check whether the said user has provided any info like email or orther medium for communication. And yes, a comment, a temporary thing itself, could be a form of ice breaker. Personally, I don't encourage that.
Of course, there is nothing wrong to approach a user for consultation. But this should happen outside the platform, at best at a chat room.

The OP took offen{c|s}e at two questions being closed, made a slightly tart comment, and deleted both. It's a sad downside of curating CV and fending off poor questions that some posters take rejection the wrong way.

@NickCox Gatekeeping does seem to be gathering negative connotations - not sure why

I think if I took the tour & perhaps looked at a few posts, I'd already doubt that it'd be all right to post 'Help Wanted' adverts as questions. Not sure it's a common enough misconception to merit a specific mention in help pages.

Indeed. There's a statistical graphics book that warns "Draw radii from the center of a circle"; "Do not vary the starting places of bars". As I commented in a review, a book doesn't have to warn about every silly thing someone once did. And so here?

@User1865345 As a rule, at any time there's usually somebody upvoting just about anything. I suspect--but cannot prove--that these are people trying to collect a few participation badges. They come (when they join) and go (once they get their badges). Thus, it is almost meaningless when a question collects one or even two upvotes.

@whuber I guess in addition that inside any technical forum there are always some people who just think generally that the community should be nicer. Hence they upvote almost anything to encourage and reward participation. From experience elsewhere, I sense that the people expressing this are often not people who answer many questions or put much effort into curating the site.
