Q: How was Duncan able to predict the exact moment a silenced sniper rifle would be fired?

I. AmIn the movie Polar that stars Mads Mikkelsen, Duncan, his character and an assassin, was being hunted down by the same organization he used to work so they wouldn't have to pay his 'pension' on his retirement. During a scene where one of the hunters from the organization had sex with him in orde...

@Jenayah lol

@MovieReel Oh! there's Ninja Steel Power Rangers?

@NapoleonWilson good luck
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I don't hate them , I hate the tone and script . Actor did fine
@Jenayah :D

Q: Why did this soldier not use a sticky bomb the way it was meant to?

I. AmIn Saving Private Ryan, Captain Miller had the idea of using sticky bombs to hit a tank's tracks and disable it. But in this scene: The soldier carried the sticky bomb, and instead of crouching immediately after approaching the tank to stick it in the track, he...

Q: Why do Joan and Annie's children have their names sewed on mats?

Eric LauritzIn Hereditary (2018), I noticed Joan and Annie's children have mats with their names sewed on them. Why do Joan and Annie's children have their names sewed on mats?

Q: Was there any indication this would happen, prior to the current season?

bruglescoIn S08E03 Was there any real indication prior to this season that she may be the one to do it. I know in the episode that Melisandre quotes herself from S03Ep06 in reference to blue eyes. The fact that it is a reference to earlier indicates that it may have been foreshadowing, but it seems a b...

4:43 AM
@NogShine yes and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel and Power Rangers Beast Morphers
Last one I followed was Power Rangers Mystic Force

5:17 AM
@AnkitSharma Jungle Fury is my last

5:30 AM
They are focused on machines after that.

why jungle fury when tehy already had jungle force O.o
same for dino
lack of ideas ?

@AnkitSharma There's no jungle force. There was wild force

A J
seems so

@NogShine yeah yeah jungle theme
so we got two jungle theme, two dino theme, two/three ninja theme

There was a series where rangers can change to any old power ranger. I didn't even watch that.

5:38 AM
ohhh
yeah heard about it

If you are borrowing old power every time, what's your original power?
@AnkitSharma o.O who talks to you about power rangers?

@NogShine google
@NogShine stealing ?

Q: Why didn't Loki just use his scepter to steal the iridium?

I. AmThe iridium was stored in a vault which has an iris scanner. Loki seemed to have gouged out the eyeball of Henrich Shafer to access this. However, I'm wondering why Loki didn't just use his scepter? I see two ways he could've done it using the scepter: Use the scepter to blast the door open sin...

Instead of wrapping up in 6 episodes in hurry, if D&D wrote the climax "The seven kingdoms and everyone in the GoT universe died in Thanos finger snap", that would be plausible.

7:49 AM
Too bad someone unsnapped then

8:10 AM
@AnkitSharma it's not fun when it's happening to you, is it? Huh huh huh
@AnkitSharma Yeah . . . You hate them.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ no
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ lol

Isn't repeatedly raising question for the purpose of saying "why didn't the screenwriter do X" off topic?

Depends on the question and if that's really the purpose, I guess.

seemingly everything by movies.stackexchange.com/users/73906/i-am is a "why didn't X happen?" type question

If they're being too irritating, I've seen custom close reasons such as ". . . because it only exists to push an agenda"

who then proceeds to argue in comments about why X would have resulted in more sense

They. Are.
What's with the bumpy road bolding
Heh. ELL had interesting trolls. This one guy used to post usage examples of different words, and innocently citing the dictionaries and saying they don't cover it. If a poor answerer fell into their trap, they would have had to respond to smartass comments questioning the usage until their mind snapped.
We used to joke they're probably a very smart AI.

9:49 AM
I don't know. On a short glance the questions seem to do largely okay. There aren't too many comments either. Does "repeatedly" mean on the two answers you wrote? ;-)

They seem nowhere as persistent though. I could be wrong

too many comments = enough for me to get a message to stop posting comments

Kinda like the guy who likes to pull a strawman in an argument, and seemingly with the same annoyingly sheepish tone as well, but it's just a one comment on each answer.

I can only go by what I see. Dude asked 7 questions, not a single one has a downvote (and this site can be quite generous with downvotes on questions people don't like, for better or worse). There's two long comment discussions he's part of and one of them ends with him saying "Oh, I understand" or whatever.

oh the big string of comments about nuclear blast radiuses was another guy
nevermind

9:53 AM
@NapoleonWilson nods

If you see a problematic comment discussion, feel free to flag it. But let's for now just stay away from insinuating people to be trolls just yet.

so you're saying that if I start posting a bunch of questions that are answered with "because that what the screenwriters wrote" that there will be no repercussions? :)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Go ahead and do just that to strengthen this point, please!
Or...not. ;-)

I was going to say, that's way too much effort considering it will be 12-18 months before I come back again

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Are we even looking at the same dude's comments?

10:00 AM
@NapoleonWilson I just looked at the comments on that thread.
Concluded they're not a troll, and didn't feel bored enough to check the others

10:11 AM
I am so bored that don't want to check

good to see the overall motivation of the moderation team is as high and consistent as always

@kalina I am not moderator

how did that happen
I know literally years pass between visits

Personal life stuff

is that why you're more angry that you used to appear

10:21 AM
not sure, I thought I was always life that

@kalina I also haven't seen him say "uffff" once after I've come back

@AnkitSharma honestly one of the best things I ever did was massively limit my exposure to random people on the internet
random people on the internet are the worst

I dunno, you people don't seem green or glowing.

especially if you trick yourself into paying attention to what they have to say about you

Well, I'm quite motivated actually. Motivated enough to investigate a user's entire output due to a chat complaint. And I'm still a moderator. Granted, the consistency part might depend on the personal definition of that word, though. ;-)

10:27 AM
Whichever definition that's more depressing

I see you figured out how it works. ;-)

@kalina You look like a pony.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ sure, fragments of a former persona that has been dead for years
did you know that yesterday was the only time I have rep capped properly on this account since it was undeleted
complete accident ofc

@Ankit Everyone has their downs, what I've noticed is the 21st century way is not appreciating your ups and exaggerating the toll the downs have on you.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ wow am I really changed, O.o

10:30 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ maybe, I find that social media results in your trying to compare your unfiltered life against everybody else's highly curated and filtered lives
which obviously always leads to you coming off worse, because of the amount of faking everybody uses on social media to make themselves look better than they actually are

@kalina I never had an issue with the internet people or moderation but I wanted to make my movies.se participation with no obligation
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ you can never be sure

@AnkitSharma Might be confirmation bias, but I've noticed even if you chat emotionally, it seems to be less frustrated and more level-headed than before.

@AnkitSharma I'm not talking about SE or moderation - I hate SE and the moderator team - I'm talking about personal happiness
we definitely don't want to restart that first conversation again

@kalina That has 'helped' it a lot, yeah
The worst part is most of the faking is either unintentional or in the eye of beholder.

@kalina for me social media was gift, as it mostly helped me

10:33 AM
I'm not sure I can agree on unintentional
I know people who will stand in front of a plane and be like #yolo #privatejet
or be like #nomakeup #casual and take 30 pictures to capture the right shot

There's always a fair share of those

I overheard a conversation recently about booking a holiday because it would look good on instagram

If a good angle of pic giving a moment of positivity in a frustrating life then no harm in it
But if it take over everything then it's bad

But a couple of years later they'll be laughing at how stupid trying to be pretend to be having a Mediterranean salad while ordering a super-large cheeseburger with extra cheese and burger was.

@AnkitSharma that's not the point though, it's highly fake to the point where some people will believe you just randomly took that perfect shot and compare themselves against it

10:36 AM
Exactly; in the eye of beholder

But people take all kinds of crap as gospel.

@kalina my most memorable trip was a secret trip which I can share nowhere and majority of pcis are messed up as we were busy enjoying and hairs did too :D

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ that defence is rather weak when there are entire industries in existence to take advantage of it

@AnkitSharma It's mostly showing off, not having a moment a positivity. But there are weirdos like that
@kalina I'm not defending anything

its manipulative and not in our species best interest
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ k

10:37 AM
Social media is not all bad, What about online support group?

@NapoleonWilson yes, this is the point I'm trying to make
what do you mean by online support group?
like anti suicide/depression type things where the real world analogy would be sitting in a circle in a room?
because that's not really social media

If something is 80 good 20 bad, should we or should we not have it? And that's a very, very generous estimation

nobody have access to real support groups
so FB groups sometime help

That seems to be pretty much social media. If anything, it's more social than what we've come to call "social media".

10:39 AM
its like this chat isn't social media
I guess if the group exists on social media then it would be social media
interesting distinction
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ do you think social media is only 20% bad?
the numbers are definitely closer to the other way around

Whoa wait

ofcourse this is social media and for me SE is the positive one

Somebody swap those.

SE isn't social media

SE isn't ideally, but SE chat is.

10:40 AM
the only reason you would mistake SE for social media is because it has chat on it, and chat by itself isn't social media

Sure not, but the boundaries start to get more fuzzy when factoring in the chatrooms.

that would be like saying Skype is social media

It's just arbitrary naming at this point.

and it isn't, its a communications platform

I was talking about chat room

10:41 AM
IRC wasn't social media, and IRC is a perfect analogy for SE chat

BBL lunch

what is BBL now
uff I am too old for chat lingo

be back later

Some kind of food, it seems.

see he said uff
BBL = be back later
srs
you know, like TTFN
or TTYL

10:43 AM
I mostly hate over use of short forms

And short forms hate overuse of . . . wait that comes off wrong.

@AnkitSharma that's discrimination against short people, I find that highly offensive

Like how many hours you saved in saying "k" rather than ok

@AnkitSharma that's a 50% reduction, so... significant

Well, it's "okay" actually. ;-P

10:44 AM
It's stylistic choice, saving time is just some excuse people make up.

@NapoleonWilson that's too old school even for me :P

my dog keeps trying to chat

If I didn't do those you'd probably have no way of telling me apart from a German bureaucrat.

not sure if that would improve what I'm putting in chat
2

I am in an age where 50% thing is too old for me and for the rest of 50% of the thing I am old for

10:45 AM
Plus, saving time for what, more chatting? Sleep? It doesn't make sense because you're not calculating the time you saved.

I do miss having to type every sentence twice because of constantly riding up against the antikalinaspamlimiter
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ actually, we kinda did once upon a time
there is an application called whatpulse
which logs how many times you type/use the mouse each day

Now THAT'S old.

wow that is a thing

:)
and it will tell you key distribution, per application, etc

where is @AJ , is he already married?

10:47 AM
Probably busy testing mod tools on rats.
Or mice. But mice are cuter.

I guess @NogShine might remember. My memory is bad lately

The point being, he ditched you

speaking of mods

I think he came in and LOL'd at a message and left. Highly efficient.

10:48 AM
what ever happened to tyler

I want to marry too now

Now what happened to you, no typos and punctuating things all of a sudden

@kalina last time I checked he was making some kind of table

I don't make a good wife.

some kind of table?

10:49 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I am not into it

he doesn't even appear to be a user anymore

September 2018?
sigh

Oh don't tell me that's also because of the welcome wagon.

he missed both elections, came to chat few time and rare post and then disappeared again

10:51 AM
well he did disappear after I got my account deleted
for like years
which I know is not much in comparison to some of my disappearances since

Only pro temp who is regular is Ian

@AnkitSharma :/ I've had at least one online 'friend' do that and it was because of running into some serious medical condition

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I thought we were online friends, you broke my heart, crying in corner of dark room

you're allowed more than one online friend

anyways who is that friend?

10:53 AM
He...didn't say you weren't? You can have more than one, ya know. ;-)

many of my "online friends" from this community don't even have accounts on here anymore
in fact, basically all of them

@kalina keen? richad O,o

oh "this community" meant stackexchange

ohh ok

I never split it up into sub-communities in my head so you're all one group
also since I only seem to get on with 3-4 people from each sub site, splitting it up would seem like I hate everybody

10:55 AM
@AnkitSharma I wasn't talking about you nincompoop

I had very different experience in different communities so kept them separately

that said, where is keen?
did he delete his account?

That's the only adjective I can use without risking getting flagged. I was going for "dweeb".

@AnkitSharma unfortunately, while I agree with you, I also had issues with staff instead of volunteers
so it was entirely unfair to split them up

@kalina he left movies for spoilers I guess and scifi for differenece of opinion for mod election

10:57 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Those aren't adjectives anyway. ;-P

@AnkitSharma so sad

what is dweeb now, I though @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ was too old for teen internet lingo

didn't you also have a collection of growing community type people in here the last time I was here
wasn't there like steelerfan and catija

@kalina catija is SE employee now

Well, Catija is an SE employee now, muahahaha!

10:59 AM
jeez talk about going from liked to forgotten in the space of a single line

steelerfan didn't come from so long :'(
she forgot my birthday :'(

@NapoleonWilson crap, I was distracted. I meant "directive"

When will be over react about the rumor of Robert Pattinson being next Batman?

I GUESS NOW!

Uff where is dizzle when you need over reaction

11:02 AM
cant do a worse job than affleck did
also you said uff

or Nicholas Hoult

I'm starting to think that everybody else become immune to it rather than you stopped doing it
so crazy trailers
seen the hobbs & shaw trailer?

@AnkitSharma Who even coming up with odd runours like that?

Sparkling is not really part of theatricality OR deception

Are you watching random YouTube ranters again? ;-)

11:04 AM
@NapoleonWilson it's in news everywhere

@NapoleonWilson My little brother does. Ugh

@kalina Also my little brother. He said it's like a buddy cop movie of Vector 2 game.

@NapoleonWilson its on CNN/in Variety

A J
@AnkitSharma yes, last Sunday! ;)

11:05 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ just seems to be 2 hours of explosions
and John Wick 3

@kalina G.I.Joe 3 huh

@AJ wow congrats , sorry I forgot date

I know people like to hate Twilight, but Robert Pattinson in general is really neat. Still not sure if he's the Batman type, though.

A J
Thanks!

like jared leto was a joker

11:06 AM
@kalina I think part of why John Wicks work is they don't set expectations too high.

@NapoleonWilson I though everyone hate twilight for Kristen Stewart and Robert got bonus sympathy point for getting cheated

Like, Keanu just headshotting people would do it for most people

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ really? I get that from the first one but the second onwards have the expectations that they'll be worse than the first but end up getting rave reviews

@kalina he is good actor, blame director

I mean the first one had literally no expectations

11:07 AM
I didn't like the 2nd one as much as the 1st. But...it was still nice, of course.

but was never designed as multiple movies so for the second one to be as good as it is is impressive and for the third one to be getting similar reviews is astounding

I still kinda have a mixed feeling regarding both, but it's mostly positive

A J
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Because I didn't post any bad joke since then. ;P cc @AnkitSharma

Yeah, they're certainly not milestones. But I think a lot of people were simply just missing some straight-to-the-point action films. They aren't really made as much as they were in the 80s and 90s anymore. Nowadays you always have to have humongous SciFi blockbusters to sell them as "action films".
The Neeson revival is also profiting from that gap to a large degree.

maybe not milestones in terms of story, but certainly contributing towards if not attaining one for the quality of the action
relying on long shots with minimal editing rather than rapid cuts

11:11 AM
Sure.

establishing geography etc rather than just hiding everything

A J
@AnkitSharma Congratulations on completing 3 decades of yoir life. ;)

actually following rules of basic physics in some regards, subverting several major tropes
like infinite ammo

@AJ thanks

because you can be boring and bullet count every scene and there not be a mistake, etc

A J
11:12 AM
@AnkitSharma Now you and @NapoleonWilson are 30+. ;)

@AJ yeah it's your fault

Is that grey hair I see?

A J
@AnkitSharma really? How~

@AJ for lack of uff directly proportional to lack of bad jokes
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ not any new one
So if Robert Pattinson get Batman, then it will be a bright future for him ahead as he is part of Nolan's next film too

He already does a lot of cool things. It's not like he's an unaccomplished actor.

11:18 AM
kinda hoping that this whole superhero craze actually dies down soon
2

Though, I'm sure if we check his Wiki page, we'll see a lot of his projects got cancelled. ;-)

if we could have maybe 5-10 years without a marvel or dc movie
that would be great

@NapoleonWilson he did successful indie films after twilight but not as big as Nolan film
@NapoleonWilson maybe batman join that list but I am more positive about nolan project

Of course, who wouldn't?

I wouldn't, it's about time for Nolan to have a critical failure
I predict that his next movie will be in a gothic setting with some form of time manipulation (even if it's just editing rather than actual time manipulation) where a man in a suit has a hard time for some reason to a backdrop of contrasting psychological themes
there may also be water involved
oh, shot in IMAX
that describes every Chris Nolan movie, right?

11:30 AM
Not quite.

There is also something spinning

oh and the arc shot

Your last name is Cynical, right? Kalina Cynical.
Rolls nicely off the tongue.

middle name actually
my last name is Bitch

Although, to be fair, if the next Nolan movie is going to be like his latter movies than the former, I kinda would rather it be a critical failure
I. Am., then We. Are.? OK, who's pulling a prank?

11:34 AM
I'm saying nothing because apparently when I raised the query about how their questions were "why didn't the screenplay do X" I was told I was wrong

Well you're still wrong
Could be less wrong though

ooh ip man is in the mulan remake

Yeah, my hopes aren't too high for that

my hopes aren't high for any of disneys live action remakes - they're literally messing with my childhood

@kalina You were told nothing of the sort and you know that. So if you really want to say nothing, then do just that.

11:37 AM
unless they want to cast me in a disney princess role and then I might accept a live action remake

All of the recent ones at least are kinda like "Oh dang look at how realistic we can make things look"
2
A showcase of visuals

@NapoleonWilson you're being disingenuous if you think your two sentences of "I don't see what you're saying" does not equate to me being wrong
the best of it is, I'm fine being wrong - but now you're saying I'm not wrong so I must be right? But you're also saying I'm not right so I must be wrong
way to be consistent

@kalina And you're being disingenous when equating me investigating what you bring up and then not finding strong evidence supporting an upcoming discussion that paints an entire user as some kind of troll as me saying to "you were wrong" about their questions being of a certain type. In fact I didn't say anything about the kinds of questions they asked.
@kalina Again, nothing of the like has been said. I'd prefer you don't reduce the discussion to black and white.

@NapoleonWilson speaking of disingenuous you've drawn several conclusions in this sentence that did not exist in anything I originally stated.

Or simply drop it altogether. You brought up something that concerned you and the moderators investigated it. Them not doing as you please (whatever it was that would have pleased oyu I don't know, reprimanding a user for a comment discussion with you?) isn't "inconsistency".

11:43 AM
Back to the main point, who is doing it? And that doesn't necessarily mean they have ill intentions
I can be disingenuous on behalf of you both

@kalina If that's the case, then pick another hobby.
On the bottom line, trying to constantly stickle people with cynical remarks and then complaining that people on the internet are making your life worse might point to the problem possibly being to be saught somewhere else. You get that little life advice for free. ;-)

12:01 PM
@NapoleonWilson is there a monthly subscription?
I dunno, you could use some cynical if you're feeling too optimistic
Life without blues is impossible.
Unless you use a pair of red glasses
If Yusuf had sunglasses on when he went to sleep, would they have been in a black-and-white setting?

@kalina something to agree here
WTF happen here, nevermind
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ who is Yusuf

@AnkitSharma the chemist guy in Inception. First layer was his dream

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ ohh that

Everyone read countless theories about season 8 such as Bran being NK, Little finger being alive and many more. Is there anyone who predicted this is how season gonna turn out? Arya killing Night King, bran being completely useless(till episode 5), Danny being Mad queen and any other.

4:10 PM
Can anyone help me understand what is wrong with this question?
-2
Q: Was there any indication this would happen, prior to season 8?

bruglescoIn Game of Thrones S08E03 Was there any real indication prior to this season that she may be the one to do it. I know in the episode that Melisandre quotes herself from S03Ep06 in reference to blue eyes. The fact that it is a reference to earlier indicates that it may have been foreshadowing, ...

And perhaps what I can do to make it clearer/better?

@bruglesco Not a main site reg so take my advice with a grain of salt, but

I would like to improve it so that it gets erstwhile answers

The beginning of the question implies you don't know what you're talking about, although you do.
The outcome would have probably been different if you mentioned the hints to other characters and the background first, then ask the question.
It seems initially like such a rudimentary question about an already well-beaten topic in both M and TV and SciFiFan
Of course, only the downvoters can explain the real reason.
It could be something else entirely, or just a couple of people who hate spoiler tags.

Well one of the downvoters was almost definitely from the answerer I argued with.
But it isn't just downvotes, it's also lack of upvotes.
If it was a good question it would have recieved some of those as well.

@bruglesco hmm, I don't like that answer's tone either
Seems like diehard GoT fans can become like a character of an adult TV show themselves.

4:18 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I may be digging into a rabbit hole you may not feel like explaining, but I am not familiar with the cultural feelings on spoiler tags. Maybe I'll check meta

@bruglesco 12 hours is a bit too short for me to make that judgement
@bruglesco There's not much to it. Naturally, some people are reactionary to "OMG spoiler!" reactions, and hence hate the spoiler tag in general. I was hinting at a possibly useless reason to downvote, not saying it's a valid reason for a -1

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ 12 hrs on a question with low views and a score of -2 is almost a death sentence on SE. I'm not confident I can turn it around even if I did manage to rewrite the question in a way that fits community standards

Depends on the SE of course
It's a death sentence for HNQ, sure
Another possible reason is after arguing colossally about episode 3, people are just too meh about it

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I don't care about that. I'm not looking for +45, just a reasonable answer.

Well, I posted an ELL question too, got 3 answers, two of them from people who really know shit, but neither was satisfactory. Stuff happens
Still, maybe reorganize your question, see if it makes any difference
Draw a clearer boundary between what you already know and what you ask, and make it clear you're not asking for fan theories or speculation

4:26 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I'll try, thanks

Pure speculation, I mean

Thanks for your input and time

I kinda hate people when they start their argument with "It's so damn OBVIOUS he'll LITERALLY do it, what, are you an idiot or something, because you don't seem to agree with me"
And that attitude is contagious for some reason, I see more and more act that way

Yes. Especially because there were 40+ extraordinarilly deadly characters in GoT to choose from. You could say that about most of them if they had written it that way.
On the otherhand it may all get Roomba'd soon.
I think it will be my first network auto-deleted question

4:44 PM
You can cross that off the list
Next items are aged away flag, aged away close vote and dunno, Tumbleweed and Unsung hero.
