12:00 AM
Hehehehe!
You so awelylawesome!!
@NapoleonWilson Have I told you lately how absolutely adorable you are?

@steelersquirrel Yes, but go ahead anyway. ;-)
And ditto, of course!

@NapoleonWilson Hehehehe! Well, I just did, silly bean!

Right.

Ugh. brb.

Wckd Krk.

1 hour later…
A J
1:39 AM
@NapoleonWilson What does it stand for?

@AJ I don't know.

1:56 AM
@AJ Napoleon has been around me too long. He is now speaking gibberish ;)

2:08 AM
@steelersquirrel Not at all. It was an entirely neutral meta post asking about people's attitudes towards M&TV, and gathered a variety of answers of all different kinds. It even made some people aware of M&TV who hadn't known the site existed before.
Ah, I see you got a link to it.
Incidentally, I believe it was that meta post which first made me aware that Cahir Mawr thingy (or TARS as was) is the same person as Napoleon.

A J
@NapoleonWilson You say things that you don't know. What happened to you, man?
@steelersquirrel Yeah

@Randal'Thor Sorry. I took it the wrong way when Ankit explained it to me. I understood it more when I saw it. I also thought that Wad made a nice post :)
@AJ As I said...he has been around me too long. He just isn't the man that he once was ;)

A J
Well, when I wanted to ask a movie question, all I searched for a site named movie and now I'm here.

Well, a lot of sci fi people are into books

@steelersquirrel Yes, it's interesting to see how Wad's attitude towards this site has changed over time. (As has mine.)

A J
2:20 AM
@steelersquirrel That happens. A man doesn't remain the same.

@steelersquirrel Not enough :-(

@Randal'Thor I doubt his recent answer is that relevant anymore, though. ;-)

@Randal'Thor Yeah... I am glad for that :)

SFF has always been a bit too screeny for my taste. It does have stuff about fantasy novels - which is why I'm there at all - but that's definitely a minority.

@NapoleonWilson That's not true. Wad always has good things to say about this site.

2:22 AM
I think there's already a much bigger cultural difference between SFF and Lit than between SFF and M&TV, and that's probably also related to the general bias towards screen stuff on SFF.

I think there's an equally big cultural bias between each of them really.
This site is hardly as similar to SciFi as people tend to believe.

Hmm, "cultural" was probably the wrong word. I was thinking specifically of the style of answers people expect on the different sites.

@Randal'Thor Same difference.
(Or maybe questions.)

Here and on SFF, answers of the form "here's an interview with the director and this is what they said - canon answer, boom" are encouraged and upvoted. Over on Lit, if you posted an answer like that (s/director/author) you'd get people saying "well, what does the actual text of the book say?"

The rather emergent anti-SciFi attitude on Literature is certainly interesting, though. I hadn't really anticipated that to this degree.
@Randal'Thor True, I was more relating it to questions than answers, I guess.

2:30 AM
@NapoleonWilson I really hope that doesn't go too far. I hate seeing rivalry between different sites. Why can't everyone just get along peacefully?
Not sure whether the significant number of Lit users who're also active on SFF will help or exacerbate that problem.

@Randal'Thor Wut? Why is there an anti sci-fi attitude on lit? I admittedly just don't go over there a lot anymore.
I have posted a question and an answer. I have done my part ;)

Well, it stems primarily from the opinion that certain questions and practices there are not that well-suited for Literature, which I can't really deny. But it can tend to get a little snobbish. I'd certainly hesitate to suggest "that's how SciFi does it" for any policy discussion for fear of getting jumped on.

@steelersquirrel It's complicated. Some people feel that SFF is full of "why isn't this a plot hole?" type questions, which aren't seen as very literary, and resent seeing such questions on Lit (even saying people should ask them on SFF instead, which I dislike). Some people are afraid that because of the large overlap, people are going to try to copy SFF policies to Lit wholesale. Which is fair enough: there's also a problem with some users on Lit who can't see outside of what they're used to on SFF.

It's really bad that they cut the Kyle Reese dream sequence from the theatrical version.

@NapoleonWilson I know, right? Michael Biehn ended up on the cutting room floor on T2 :(

2:37 AM
There's also a perception that SFF and its meta are a bit of a clusterf**k from a network-wide perspective and shouldn't be taken as any kind of example.

But afterall, pretty much every scene of the Director's Cut adds a ton of relevant stuff. This is one of the prime examples for a Director's Cut that is a huge improvement altogether.

@Randal'Thor Yeah... I understand. I have seen some of it spill over when I am in Mos.

Well, it's certainly interesting to see SciFi be on the other end of it, but I agree that it's not healthy if it gets worse (provided it didn't already).

@NapoleonWilson You gotta see Tombstone. You just gotta!

@steelersquirrel I know, I know, I will at some point.

2:40 AM
@steelersquirrel You shouldn't listen to those people in Mos too much ;-) Some of them, like I said, just can't see outside of what they're used to on SFF, or accept that Lit has different standards and policies (e.g. on authorial intent). Some of them are just bitter about not being able to shitpost memes in the Reading Room.

Like Rand said... I just don't see why the sites can't intermingle peacefully and everyone just get along. I just don't understand it.

@steelersquirrel That's because you're too nice and like to get along with everyone.
If everyone was like you, there'd be much less strife in the world.

@Randal'Thor Awwwww. Thank you. I really appreciate that :) I do have my moments, though ;)

puts Steeler in a room with Tom Brady
runs

@Randal'Thor Hehehehe! Well, it wouldn't be Mos if everyone wasn't shit posting memes ;)
Yep. I would kill Tom Brady. See? ;)

2:45 AM
@steelersquirrel And the Reading Room bloody well shouldn't be Mos.
Or for a more neutral statement: there's no reason why it should.

@Randal'Thor Sure. As Mos shouldn't be the reading room as well ;)

Anyway, I should go to bed. Hopefully I won't log in tomorrow to find that I've offended a bunch of people in here :-P

Meh, most of the people that actually come here probably aren't offended by that. ;-)

Not the regulars in here, I am sure :)

@steelersquirrel Sure, every room should be its own room. (Though I'm not sure what you mean by that - is there something you dislike about the Reading Room?)

2:50 AM
@Randal'Thor Oh, no. I like it just fine. It's just extremely intellectual for me and I just don't have much to contribute to the chat over there. Sorry if you took it the wrong way :)

@steelersquirrel True. But it's great to have high-level discourse, provided everyone is also welcoming to newcomers and people who don't know as much as they do.

@steelersquirrel Also true.

SE is supposed to be all about expert content. Provided it doesn't devolve into snobbery, intellectual conversation is great.
Anyway, time for bed.
Goodnight :-)

Good night and good luck!

@Randal'Thor Sure. I have no problem with the reading room. It's just every time I go over there, they are discussing things that I have no interest in and/or don't know anything about. I certainly don't want to butt into a conversation just to say hi to everyone. I like everyone over there. BESW admittedly intimidates me a little, not because he is rude or anything...he is just really intelligent and I just don't know how to behave around people like that ;)
Goodnight :)

2:56 AM
True. I don't have an education in the humanities and sometimes I just don't get a thing they're saying, which isn't their fault, though.

Exactly!
I would love to discuss Hemingway or Fitzgerald, but it seems nobody over there is too interested in those authors as much.
Which reminds me... I still have not received a response from the Stoker expert regarding the question that I wanted to ask over there :'(
Rand would love the dinner parties over at Rick's house! Ya know, the parties where I recreate scenes from The Girl with the Dragon tattoo with Rick's daughter while paying no attention to the boring conversations going on around me ;)
There's no hope for me. You just can't take me anywhere ;)

Thanks, babe :)

3:15 AM
Did anyone listen to T-Pain's songs?

I don't even know who that's supposed to be.

3:31 AM
@MannlyMann Yes!

@steelersquirrel I got a date

@MannlyMann Oh, nice! With that same girl?

@steelersquirrel no, with a girl that actually lives in the same city as me
im excited
woot

@MannlyMann WUT? I can't keep up with you kids ;) what's the deal with her?

Uh well I thought she was cute I've known her for awhile so I asked her out

3:35 AM
YAY! What are you guys doing? When are you going out?

Tomorrow night, going to see play

<living vicariously through the kids> ;)

I mean you have napoleon right?

@MannlyMann Awesome! I am so proud of you for having the courage to ask her out! These other boys in here need to see you as an example! ;)

Who's that directed at?

3:37 AM
@MannlyMann Yes! As much as anyone can have Napoleon, I suppose ;)
@MannlyMann Ankit and Napoleon ;)
Actually, Napoleon asked me out in here if I remember correctly. It was quite adorable ;)

Ooooooo story time plz

Ohhhhh...what story do you want to hear?

Napoleon asking you

He asked me if I wanted to see a Steelers game with him. Let me see if I can find it in the transcripts...
Jan 31 '16 at 17:35, by Napoleon Wilson
@steelerfan Yeah, in fact I, um, have a question. What would you say if I, um, like, next season, would want to, um, go to a life NFL game with you?
Hehehehe! Adorable!

Omg adorable
Not as good as when I asked a girl to homecoming but stoll
still pretty adorable

3:44 AM
@steelersquirrel We still haven't been to a game, though.

It was so cute how he was fumbling around and kept saying "um" like he was all cute and nervous. See...we girls love that stuff!

@steelersquirrel Well, I probably shouldn't tell you, but it was carefully constructed that way. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson So what? The other stuff that we have done together far outweighs a Steeler game!

@steelersquirrel Also true. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson WUT? OMG! You totally just blew it! I loved the way that you did that...and it wasn't even genuine? Pfft!

3:47 AM
@steelersquirrel Awww, I'm sorry. :'( No, it was totally genuine, forget what I said!

Pfft! Too late! You can't undo it ;-(
@MannlyMann You must come in tomorrow and give me all of the details!

Alright

Sorry, but I am going home early tonight. Gotta run!

Q: Were cowboys a thing before movies?

kingledionThere are lots of cowboy movies out there, and they seemed to be the genre to beat in the 50s and 60s. Pretty much any (male) star who was anybody in those decades did a western or twenty. Were westerns and cowboy culture popular in other media before movies, or did movies cause the popularity o...

@MovieReel Hahahaha! Uhm...what? ;)
I'm sorry... but are you saying that you think movies created cowboys? — Catija 11 mins ago
Hehehehe!
OMG. This is making me chuckle!

A J
@MovieReel Well, question title must contain question, not a statement. That's what it is for.

@AJ No. Napoleon is apparently a vampire these days ;)

A J
I thought he is Batman in disguise. ;)

He is far too cool to be Batman. He is a spy. He has always been a spy as long as I have known him ;)

A J
4:47 AM
@steelersquirrel Like James Bond?
@steelersquirrel Well, wear a steel armor around the neck then. ;)

Yes! Brosnan/Dalton James Bond! The cool ones! Not stupid ol' Craig with that awful Vesper Lynd ;-(

A J
Are you a part of his mission? ;)

@AJ No way! I would love to be turned into a vampire! That would be AWESOME!!

A: What are the key differences between Christopher Nolan's batman character and Zack Snyder's batman character?

A JHere are some key differences between Nolan's and Snyder's Batman. Nolan's Batman is anti-gun. He didn't use guns to kill bad guys. IIRC, he didn't kill any. In case of Snyder's Batman, it's opposite. We can see him using guns when he tries to kill Superman. We see many gadgets used by both ver...

Oh, God. I see that Faze person "answered" that as well. Ugh.

@steelersquirrel Which answer did you accept for that Academy Award question?
@steelersquirrel Well, this account is not deleted.

@AJ I don't know...let me check. I have been busy. I don't know if I accepted any yet.

@steelersquirrel Batman is cool!

A J
@NapoleonWilson You're more cool than him as she said.

4:58 AM
@NapoleonWilson No way. Bond is way cooler!
@AJ Yours :)

A J
@steelersquirrel You should accept yours. It's way better than mine.

@steelersquirrel Well, read the body, not just the title (which I agree sounds stupid).

@AJ Oh, I don't think so. I would rather give you the rep. There is no rep to be gained by accepting your own answer. I just added my answer because of that article, which you already added.
@NapoleonWilson I did read the body. Catija' comment sums it up perfectly.
The cowboy "culture" was around far before movies were...

@steelersquirrel Well, I don't think so, since that isn't actually what the question asks.
I tried to clarify that a little, though.
@steelersquirrel Not the culture, the interest in that culture in modern culture.
Did people go crazy over western books and play cowboy as children before they got crazy over western films in the 50s? That's the question.

@NapoleonWilson Uhm...Okay, I guess.
Well, I didn't down vote it...I guess that I am just a f@#*ing idiot and misunderstood it.

5:09 AM
Well, you're not alone. The title did sound a little stupid on first look.

Yeah, I guess.

Unfortunately it's not that easy to recover from a -3 after 10 minutes.

Well...it looks like it has, thanks to your clarification.

Well, it still has 2 downvotes. But sure, it has recovered a little indeed.
But that's pretty much the kind of question I'd like to see over 10 "list me all the Fantastical Beasts" questions.

5:16 AM
But anyway, good night.
I'm just glad I saw that thing before tomorrow.

@Catija They have real obsession with images
@NapoleonWilson Ohhh so you are taking care of it already.
@steelersquirrel lol

But the history of Westerns is an interesting thing actually. With the whole Hollywood counter-movement of Spaghetti Westerns that then found its way back into Hollywood and merged into the Revisionist Westerns of the 70s, followed by the the Western revival of 90s and 00s.

@NapoleonWilson great, now I can be freely being lazy

Q: In which comic was it revealed that Alfred was the Joker?

Rishabh SagarThere was a comic book where Alfred is shown sitting alone in a room, putting on the Joker make-up, thereby revealing him as the Joker. It was probably an alternate universe, but in which comic book did this happen?

Is that true?

@Randal'Thor I only had issue with reading room is that it got too much surveillance due to the past of mos and other controversial chatrooms and users. But site seems fine to me even when I hardly have anything to contribute there yet.
@AJ Must be some one off comics
@steelersquirrel but is not Hemingway supposed to be bat from kate point of view
@AJ Not my cup of tea

Big Trouble in Little China is a 1986 American fantasy martial arts comedy film directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, and James Hong. The film tells the story of Jack Burton, who helps his friend Wang Chi rescue Wang's green-eyed fiancee from bandits in San Francisco's Chinatown. They go into the mysterious underworld beneath Chinatown, where they face an ancient sorcerer named David Lo Pan, who requires an Asian woman with green eyes to release him from a centuries-old curse. Although the original screenplay by first-time screenwriters Gary Goldman and...

@Walt What is that O.o

@AnkitSharma Click and see ;) [Edited, previous link didn't work]

I still need to see buffy
It's part of my after retirement list

@AnkitSharma Go for it. It's not for everyone, though.

I have seen 7-8 episodes and I did liked it

1:04 PM
@AnkitSharma Do you remember what season it was?

But all those episodes were from different different season and in random order

@AnkitSharma Ah, OK

@Walt one where angel became evil again and the one where a witch gave spell to buffy's male friends so that all girls will fall for her and S01E01

Definitive season ranking: 3, 2&5 (tie), 6, 4, 7, 1.

I have seen few more and I know few major characters

1:07 PM
@AnkitSharma The first one you mentioned is one of the best in the series. And the 2nd one is also nice and very funny

@Walt I think I will like it but it's too long for me to follow at the moment

@AnkitSharma You also have to wait like 25 episodes till it gets really good :O

@Walt the love magic one also done in Archie animated show too where veronica did same mistake

@AnkitSharma It's a popular trope. Rick & Morty did a rather gross (but funny) twist on it.

@Walt If I am not wrong then first season is more of villain of the week concept and later season were more of longer story
@Walt I am sure I have seen that trope in way many shows

@AnkitSharma Retirement? Isn't that in like 40 years?!

1:17 PM
@Walt Not sure, maybe I might get fired before that :D

@AnkitSharma And they're possibly censored, aren't they?

@Walt that's why I get forced to use torrentz. Do buffy have censorable stuff too O.o

Q: revenge of the jedi poster signed by george lucas worth

torgnyHow much would a revenge of the jedi poster signed by George Lucas be worth? Here is the poster without signature: http://www.ebay.com/itm/REVENGE-OF-THE-JEDI-CineMasterpieces-1983-STAR-WARS-ORIGINAL-C9-C10-MOVIE-POSTER-/192099660199 The same question for this easy rider poster: https://www.mo...

@DrRDizzle Your brain just tried to compensate for the absence. Tell it it's silly and do it in moderation (and hydrate a lot)

I am sure it's not on the level of Game of throne or True Blood

1:20 PM
@AnkitSharma Depends on what you guys censor over there. But there's plenty of raunchy stuff in it

@Walt We censor slaughter, private parts/sex scene and x-rated words

@AnkitSharma And I seem to recall kisses are prohibited? Or is that no longer the case?

@Walt kisses are in grey era, sometime they are fine sometime not
But this days we have Netflix, amazon prime which don't censor stuff and Indian version of it like Hotstar (star network) etc which don't censor stuff either

In any case, sure, I always recommend the uncut version, of just about anything
@AnkitSharma Good to hear

@Walt Me too even if I have to go for illegal ways

1:24 PM
@AnkitSharma I mean, even the Brits censored BTvS :O [Usually the excessive violence]

That remind me I did watched Deadpool in theatre but want to watch uncensored version too now
Is there a deadpool extended version out there too ?
@Walt I blame @DrRDizzle

@AnkitSharma Yeah, what do you have to say for yourself Dizzle?!

@MovieReel WTF

@AnkitSharma Well, I'm pretty sure I saw the uncensored one and I still got bored. :P
...Don't hit!!

Q: What are the 7 cuts made in the Indian version of Deadpool?

Ankit SharmaAs per bollywoodhungama.com, Deadpool passed CBFC-A rating with 7 cuts. What are those exact 7 cuts made in Deadpool to get an A (Adult) rating from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) of India? And how do they affect the film?

@Walt I have seen this version ^^

1:29 PM
@AnkitSharma Wow, seems like a lot of changes

I heard that even US/original version also made some cuts, So I was waiting for extended /director cut etc
@Walt It was stupid to cut the bullet scene

@AnkitSharma Blood splatter CGI is so fake-looking these days, too (looking at you, The Walking Dead), it's more silly than gory

How did logan got no cut O.o

@AnkitSharma Wasdat? Browser weirded out by that link

Indian censoreboard is run by weirdos
@Walt snapshot of fox confirming that Logan will have no cuts in India

1:33 PM
@AnkitSharma All censorship is weird in the information age
@AnkitSharma Nice. Did you see it?

Yeah and I liked it too

@AnkitSharma Wouldn't mind seeing it either. Sounds way better than previous Wolverine outings

@Walt Previous two were too bad compare to this one
Logan is in my top fav x-men films
Maybe because my expectation from fox is too low now

@AnkitSharma Yeah, Origins was boring. And The Wolverine was just odd.

Origin was shit
Wolverine was bearable
I always wanted a hard core wolverine which I got now but it's the last one from Jackman

1:44 PM
@AnkitSharma Well, the man is nearly 50

but he is good

Finally saw Room, BTW. Which, apart from a couple of tiny nitpicks about some of the choices they made, was nice

Q: How deep is the hole in Sparta

KyloRenIn 300 when the Persian messenger comes to give his message. Leonidas decides to kill him and his companions by throwing them into a huge hole. It seems to be pretty deep as one of the men is seen falling for at pretty long time even if it was in slow motion: ...

@MovieReel Not nearly as deep as any of the holes in the plot :P
Oh, and saw The Lobster too. That was a weird one. But I liked it (especially the first part, in the hotel)
Anyway, time to delurk and melt back into the shadows ;)

Q: The Ring of the Schwartz -- is it actually useless?

Stealth RabbiIn Spaceballs, we see Lonestarr and Dark Helmet use their schwartz rings to make a lightsaber-like weapon. Later, when Lonestarr loses the ring, Yogurt says that the ring is just bumpkin and that he found it in an old crackerjack box, and says that the real power was within Lonestarr. So, Lonesta...

Q: Is question about identifying TV channel "ident" on-topic?

miroxlavDiscovery Channel is known by idents (presentations of channel logo between program blocks in CGI or movie sequence) sometimes lasting over 1 minute – like this 2-minute one. I'm interesting in identifying another one according to details I remember – it is longer series of cut-scenes. Is asking ...

Q: In what short (French?) film do items keep disappearing?

RhubbarbAges ago, perhaps 20 years ago, I saw a film that I'd like to locate now, but am having trouble finding. It was a short film, perhaps 10–15 minutes long; French language (so subtitled in English). It's set in a hotel room, and if I remember correctly is a single long shot (moving between the bed...
