Q: Movie that I can't find

Walter W.I remember watching a movie years ago about a teenager in Cali that picked up a radio signal from space that was trying to warn people of earth that the sun was going supernova. Q: Foreign movie with a boiling pan bath scene

user27221I saw a movie perhaps 5 or 10 years ago that I remember to be really good, but I do not remember its title any more. The only thing I remember about it is that it had a funny scene in which 2 friends were bathing each one inside a floor mounted restaurant boiling pan. It was definitely not an ...

Q: Foreign movie with angels that pull a lever to stop time

Dan ChaseI saw this movie a long time ago, I think on IFC - I just remember an angel stopping time by pulling a steam-punk kind of lever. Driving me crazy for years, please help! I think it was in black and white at least in some portions, and it wasn't asian, probably greek, russian or french. I wish I k...

@NapoleonWilson awwww, now I definitely have to see it.

Watched "Flashdance" this afternoon. I Haven't seen that movie since I was a kid. I loved that movie so much. Now, it's just stupid. I Can't believe I liked that movie. I mean your dream is going to ballet school in Pittsburgh? I love Pittsburgh for obvious reasons......but, really?
04:39
@MattD Waiting on pins and needles on how Spectre was.....
05:03
@steelerfan If I could make fart noises for 2.5 hours into a camera, I could recreate the film.
@MattD Really? That bad?
05:19
@steelerfan Felt like it was a 2.5 hour waste of my time. No real payoff, complete waste of a good villain who's shown to be a lot less clever than he's apparently been for three movies, and any new characters are never developed enough to really make you care for them. Pacing is off, story is weak, they brought Bond into a modern age in Skyfall then sent him straight back to where he came from three years later.
@MattD That's too bad. I Was looking forward to this movie. I will probably waste 2.5 hours of my time to still see it as I have seen every Bond movie. I'm Waiting a few weeks to see. Doesn't that just irritate you when you look forward to a movie and you leave feeling like it wasted your time?
06:01
@steelerfan More so now that I'm back to having to pay to see movies.
@MattD You didn't have to pay before?
06:26
@steelerfan From 2007 to 2011 I was a projectionist for my local theater, so free movies for me and a friend (with some restrictions) was a perk. Helped with marketing efforts for about year in 2014 and got them back for that time. My best friend is the GM for a theater out in Iowa now, and lots of people I knew at the location I worked for have moved on. Unless it's someone like a good friend I feel guilty asking to be signed in.
06:37
@MattD How cool. Yeah, I bet you are mad that you have to pay now :(

Q: Captured arabian man tells his magical story

mafuAs a child, probably somewhere around 1994, I remember seeing a movie on TV with an old Arabian setting. It included a man who was supposedly captured by a group of others who was forced to tell them his story. This story was cut in a few episodes, all of which happened in Arabia, and some seeme...

@steelerfan Oh, I love What a Feeling, one of my favourite songs.
@MattD Well, they arguably brought back the old times quite a bit in Skyfall already, though, thematically as well as cinematically.
@NapoleonWilson I like the soundtrack. The movie was just not as good as when I was 10 years old, but most aren't.
@steelerfan Granted, haven't seen it for quite some time, too.
@NapoleonWilson I love 80's movies, it was just not cool anymore. I found some old dvd's yesterday that I need to re-watch. VERY 80's!!
13:59
@AnkitSharma Dude, where have you been? My shift is almost over and you haven't been in here at all. I had to resort to chatting in Mos Eisley and getting tormented.

Q: Infinite ammo in "The Walking Dead"

Bruno BellucciThe people of TWD seems worry about basic things like food, water and shelter. However, I can't see the same concern about ammunition. I understand the show don't need to be realistic (it's fiction), but considering the world in which they live they should be more concerned about the ammunition (...

16:30
@steelerfan Not really mad. If anything when I write up little reviews about movies on Facebook I don't have to hold back in telling people not to see something. Couldn't really do that before since I was a theater employee who naturally wanted people to patronize the chain I worked for.
@MattD Well, I am just bummed that you didn't like Spectre.
@MattD I am watching a Star Trek movie for the first time today. Are you familiar?

Q: How does arresting Ian exempt Ben of his jail sentence?

ghosts_in_the_codeIn National Treasure, Agent Sadusky reminds Ben that "someone's gotta go to prison". Ben asks him to reach Boston and arrest Ian and his gang. Q: Which was the first reality competition TV program that used the now common format of eliminating one contestant each episode?

Matthew KaneIt's now a common trope of the genre, whether it's getting kicked off the island or being told "You're fired!" but somebody had to have come up with this first. Who created the episode-ending elimination ceremony?

@DrRDizzle This is why SE needs to let us have a blog... clearly, someone here would use it.

Q: Car stopped on side of road, passengers threatened with being shot if they try to get out of the car or call for help

Slipslide998So I only remember seeing the trailer for this movie, it was fairly new, definitely in the 2000s most like 2010 or later. In the trailer this family or friends is driving along a road when something happens. They stop for some reason, either their car breaks down or someone stops them I'm not s...

@MattD I think Star Trek 2? It's the movie event in the SFF chat today.
20:01
> It's worth noting the first person who was voted off Expedition Robinson (and consequently, the first contestant ever eliminated from a reality competition) took his own life a month later.
Well... that took a dark turn @Walt
20:14
@Catija They're not asked to have staff therapists for nothing...
@Walt Oh really? I've always figured that there's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that never ends up on the tv show... Sometimes I think it would be interesting to have a Truman-show like setup where you see everything because so much of it is really deceptive otherwise.
... not that I want to watch someone sleep... or would ever watch such a show... but I think that there's so much more to what actually goes on in the actual events of filming that they don't show on TV.
@Catija There was a recent show called UnReal that tried to show the ugly stuff behind the scenes of such shows (specifically The Bachelor). The staff therapist was portrayed as a useless proxy. [Unfortunately, the show became all soapy and silly and this great potential was ruined. :(]
@Catija Big Brother is pretty much Truman-esque. I think they're filmed 24/7. Not that I ever watched it.
Yeah, that was what made something like the Truman show concept so important... the fact that the subject isn't aware of being on TV. If they know they're surrounded by cameras, their behavior changes.
I did, however, watch 20+ seasons of Survivor and The Amazing Race, and mostly loved them. If they're well-made, I don't really care if they're fake.
I've only ever seen a couple of episodes of either show. The Amazing Race seems more interesting of a concept to me. I watch a lot of other competition shows, though... Specifically various cooking ones, America's Next Top Model... though mostly the older seasons... Project Runway...
20:24
@Catija Though I'm guessing most Big Brother contestants mugged for the camera since birth. People willing to go through this thing are already exhibitionists.
But I watch them all intermittently...
@Catija Yeah, I mainly watch it because I love travel and seeing exotic places (even in annoyingly choppy Bruckheimer edits)
@Walt Yeah, and that's why. I love travel, too... I seriously wish I could do more of it but it's so expensive. :(
@Catija Oh food, definitely. Saw every Top Chef season so far and really loved them
Have you seen the British show The Great British Bake Off? It airs on PBS as The Great British Baking Show
20:29
@Catija Only bits. Their criteria are so weird
@Walt How do you mean?
@Catija The way they judge them and the categories
@Walt Oh. I've only seen one season. I thought it was odd that they only look at that specific day's performance for the final episode... most shows make an effort to take into account the full season with extra weight on the current task
Plus, I don't want to be an ageist, but I don't know if I trust the taste buds of an 80 year old woman :O
@Catija Some don't. Top Chef contestants are always judged on the merit of their last dish.
@Walt HA HA HA.
@Walt Hm... clearly I've not watched enough of it to realize that. I did just watch the Bobby Flay "Worst Cooks in America" show... which was interesting... but I'm 99% sure that they had additional tutoring that isn't shown on the show.
20:37
Also watched seasons of Master Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Iron Chef... and always try to catch lighter stuff like Cutthroat Kitchen and Cupcake Wars.
@steelerfan lol.......I was quite busy, shopping + party, now back to home.
@Catija I saw some of that too. It was mostly amusing, though I could never tell if some of those people are actually faking being that bad
@DrRDizzle i will read it someday and we will discuss about it :D
@Walt Cutthroat Kitchen always makes me laugh. Particularly when they have to use the kid-sized kitchen set
@AnkitSharma Comic books aren't food, Ankit. Pay attention!
@Catija They really picked the perfect host for that one
20:40
@Walt Alton is my favorite chef, I think.
Perfect mix of comedian, scientist, and chef.
@Walt i don't read them. Not now atleast, once in a while manga sometime.
He made a great host on Iron Chef America, too.
Is it Kichen.se chatroom?
@AnkitSharma We can dream
@AnkitSharma The Frying Pan?
20:42
Lol......nice room name suggestion
Oh, and what I love about Cupcake Wars is that they make them make tons of cupcakes but at least some of them gets used... I hope the other thousand cupcakes from the losing bakery don't go to waste.
@AnkitSharma .... no, that's actually what the Cooking.SE chat is called.

 The Frying Pan

Sometimes hot, always heavy. (cooking.stackexchange.com)
@Catija Such tragedy. :( And the rest wasted on some minor celebs in some lame red carpet event
@Catija didn't go there
So know nothing
@Catija Sweet Genius is a case of taking these quirks a bit too far, though
@Walt Yeah... I saw one episode for a Girl Scouts event and one of the bakeries was specifically known for using booze in their cupcakes... and they got kicked off in the first round because they used beer in their first-round cupcake because they figured "Well, we're here because we make cupcakes with booze... certainly they wouldn't send us home for it"... I think that was an error on the part of the producers, though.
@Walt I haven't run into that one yet.
20:46
@Catija A shame, that would've been one hilarious event!
@Catija It's completely insane

Q: Who was the original parasite, if not Mr Poopy-Butthole?

toryanIn season 2 episode 4 of Rick and Morty (Total Rickall), there is an alien parasite that disguises itself by implanting false memories in people's minds. The audience is led to believe that Mr Poopy-Butthole, who has never appeared in the show before, is also a parasite. This becomes more evident...

@MovieReel Er, nice title
@Walt And they don't have any full episodes up on Food Network's site. :(
@Walt Wow... this host guy is bonkers.
@Catija Oh, totally. And he makes them cook desserts with ingredients like ramen and bone marrow.
@Walt I'm watching a clip with beets, sparklers and garlic... ugh.
20:53
@Catija It's cult TV for sure, but even I have my limits
Someone wants to watch Duck Soup with me. How can I say no to that? :)
@Walt Awww, great classic film. :D
ttfn, enjoy your wassabe lollypops
@Walt More like our trip to the yoga studio.
21:13
@Catija Well, I'd doubt he'd switch his blog to ours, though, even if we had one.
21:26
If it's Star Trek II, that one is good. General rule is the even numbered Trek movies are the good ones.
22:15
@MattD I was going to watch Star Trek 2 as a movie event in Mos Eisley. I got called into work. I will not be watching now. I have no other reason to watch that movie now.

Q: What song from the LOST soundtrack is this? Couldn't place it

user1886419https://clyp.it/qfavcszv I remember this one melody and I thought it was from Exodus Part 1 when the group was leaving from the beach. It may come up one other time throughout the series.
