@Flyk Except, like Bollywood, I think that the Hollywood tag should go away because not all films are Hollywood films... and the line of definition there isn't nearly as clear as with Bollywood films... because they have many different languages while pretty much all of ours are in English, regardless of if they're from NYC or wherever.

If these tags are only designed for ID questions, then the language may be more appropriate... if the questions are about film making in France (unlikely), then the french-cinema may be better.... I feel like there should be a way to tag the language of a film in an ID question.

I don't think that anyone is going to inadvertently add country/language tags... and, if they do, we will remove them after the question is asked. That's just how it works. Most questions have to get their tags edited unless they're asked by knowledgeable users.

Short of not having tags, there's no way to prevent people from using the wrong ones.

But I can't yet imagine the retagging mess, since every ID question has a friggin genre tag nowadays. But it might pay.

But in the same way I don't know it if I just write it in the question body. Wiriting a question that's totally wrong is just a natural danger of ID questions.

Oh, and I wasn't speaking about retagging the old questions, that might be achievable quite easily, but about retagging all the new questions, since people will misuse genre and language stuff if it's there (ok, decades could be completely removed then anyway, I guess).

probably aim to merge into identify-this-movie

since it's the larger tag

so edit all the other identify-this-tv-show-sound-movie-track-reel off the questions

@Flyk That's very cool. I'm inclined to upvote it. However, I would rather like that proposal to ban genre tags from identification questions rather than the whole site, as it is done for language tags. Because I think general genre discussion (like some of the existing science-fiction, comedy and western things) is still a proper use-case. But I could as well just make that an answer.

I never ever understood what the hell a "meta tag" is at all.

I love me my plot-explanation, analysis and identify-this-movie (the tag, not the question category ;-)). If those count as meta tags, then screw that blog post!

plot-explanation is a question type

technical-issues is a question type (not a M&TV tag)

<topic> is obviously the media name

the "genre" tag problem is identical to the genre tag problem on gaming.stackexchange.com

you don't tag questions about Doom with First-Person-Shooter

but you can ask questions about first-person-shooter

you wouldn't tag a question about the plot in the movie Rush (for example) with cars

because cars is a meta tag

except for questions about the animated movie, Cars

I suppose drama would work with casting

and horror would work with film-techniques

but I suspect that the correct use would be film-techniques with the intended final product having a genre of horror being mentioned in the body

"I am currently working on a horror movie like some movie name and I want to know what how is the following effect achieved?"

Just like a movie tag, only broader and not for a single movie but a class of them.

@Flyk You haven't removed genre from your question completely yet, by the way.

Listing genre there and striking it through is also quite confusing. Afterall ID questions are tagged with this, that strikethrough doesn't fit there semantically. Rather than that you should probably just add a little sentence that says you're currently not concerned about genre.

Shooting choices are often decided by what state/city is willing to offer the biggest incentives (tax rebates, discounts... etc)

For example, they shot a pilot for a show that was set in Niagara Falls, NY... here in Austin.

@Flyk No, not necessarily, I just said your meta question is confusing, since at some point ignore genre tags and at the end you mention them again. It's not consistent and I wasn't sure if that was intentional or not.
