2:00 PM
If the game is tied up after the first OT, then the team who was offense second in the first OT is offense first in the second, and it continues to flip like that.

@MattD I...didn't completely get that.

@NapoleonWilson What don't you get? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just asking.

@MattD I know you're not, don't worry. ;-)

I figured, but tone of voice doesn't always come through on the Innernet. :D

I think I got it after rereading, though.
I guess that is fairer.

2:02 PM
@AJ I understand the meaning behind it, I just have no idea what it id from.
The Dark Knight?

Gotcha. It's not so much that it's fair, but more that it's balanced. Each team gets a chance to score to keep the game alive, but rules come into play that still prevent it from going on too long.

Sounds more like Mr. Sharma's favourite movie.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, Resident Evil?
:P

@MattD Which seems like the same as being fairer. ;-)

Being as V is his avatar at the moment, I shall assume it is a V for Vendetta quote.

2:04 PM
@NapoleonWilson I guess. It's early and I've been battling a cold since Wednesday night.

What is really cool, though, is Bulletproof Monk, with a nice performance by Sean William Scott, who's cocky but totally likeable and not a usual Stiffler-moron.

A J
@NapoleonWilson Agreed. He was Final Destination I and voiced that possum in Ice Age where he did a good job.

@MattD Oh. Well, get well then.
@DrRDizzle Or maybe he's just an avid Guy Fawkes enthusiast.

@NapoleonWilson I'm much better today than any day since late Wednesday, still sort of in that haze as your body regains all its faculties, though.

A J
@DrRDizzle See. You have found it after getting an idea. ;P

2:12 PM
@NapoleonWilson Sorry, I disagree. The answer is good, and the question could be good, but not the way it's currently phrased.
@AJ And I commend you for it ;)

@Walt What would your improvements to the wording be then? Could you maybe even adjust the question accordingly?
This would be highly appreciated, since it still accumulates downvotes but it seems a really nice thread.

@NapoleonWilson None that won't be intrusive retcons, I guess

@NapoleonWilson Is the story of Guy Fawkes even that well known outside the UK?

@DrRDizzle I don't know. We had it in English at least.
Since it's also an official holiday even.

2:17 PM
@NapoleonWilson It is? Where?

@Walt Then what specifically don't you like about its wording?
@DrRDizzle Well, or a celebration then.

@NapoleonWilson It just currently seems like OP knew nothing about the very movie they were watching and made no effort to remedy that

Anyway, it's not just a historical event, but a cultural celebration as of today.
@Walt Hmm, I guess.

@NapoleonWilson You're right, but I assumed it would be relatively unheard of outside Britain.

The question itself seems fine to me, but maybe I'm judging it too much by the answer it enabled.

2:19 PM
@NapoleonWilson But, well. It's doing better than I thought.

I guess I'm more inclined to like it for its purpose for the greater good of SE as an archive for interesting questions with insightful answers, and less for its merits as an individual question. The burden of a moderator, I guess.

@NapoleonWilson Maybe. Heck, I'm one to talk - I really liked this movie but for some reason never saw the last 15 minutes or so.

It's not really that dissimilar to that "Does Willy Smith look strange in that Concussion trailer?" question we had.
Which had the exact same interesting answer of "Yeah, he totally did, and here's why".
Of course if the answer is "Nah, you're just imagining crap" the question would go over quite differently.
@Walt Not really.

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, he did it too subtly. Oscar 101: We have to know you wore prosthetics :P

how's everyone?

2:25 PM
@DrRDizzle I can't really judge. I had it in school. But the only other places in pop-culture that I know of are V for Vendetta and Sherlock.
@DForck42 Largely fine.

@DForck42 Spiffy. And yourself

good
sleepy

@DForck42 Sleepy is good. Especially when you succumb to it :)
I dreamt I was a food tester in a dessert factory yesterday. Then I woke up :(

I dreamed I broke some law and was actually on the run for it. But unfortunately I don't remember the details.

@AnkitSharma Sorry. :P

2:31 PM
@Walt not if I'm at work ;-)

@NapoleonWilson While they vary, some of my dreams do look cinematic, often like action movies

@Walt last night I dreamed that the center all of my molars (the teeth in the back of your mouth) had fallen out while I was on vacation
and then my dream sister's hair caught fire

@DForck42 There's a simple solution to that

@Walt lol

@DForck42 Ooh, Jungian archetype alert. Isn't it the fear of getting old?
@DForck42 Though I don't know what archetype is that :P

2:34 PM
@Walt I often tend to to dream dangerous or mysterious stuff, but usually I experience it more as adventurous and exciting than genuinely nightmarish, which is good and probably due to my exposure to various films.

@Walt weird
@Walt I have VERY weird dreams

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, nightmares usually just wake me up

The actual nightmares I have are more related to real world problems and worries than good old horror nightmares.

Though I don't bolt up in bed like the cliche, naturally. ;) I just groggily go 'blech'

Like having to write a master's or PhD thesis without the slightest idea about what.

A J
2:36 PM
I did have a dream that I'm selected in civil service as Indian Administration Service officer.

@DForck42 Oh, I hear ya :/

Or involving insect or arthropod plagues.

@AJ Sounds like a nightmare alright ;) Unless you want to?
@NapoleonWilson Hey, I kinda did that IRL! :P

Man, talk about making a great poster and ruining it.

@Walt Me too, somewhat, which is probably the reason for the nightmares.

A J
2:39 PM
@Walt It can be a nightmare if you're in an ASI office in desert.

@MattD With what? The Groot?

@MattD I like it? what's wrong with it?

@NapoleonWilson I guess

@DForck42 The little Groot in the bottom corner.

I thought everybody loves baby trees.

2:39 PM
It's just distracting.
I get that Groot proved to be a very popular character, but it feels like they're gonna shove Baby Groot down our throats.

yeah, it detrcts a bit from the aestetic, but I wouldn't say it ruins it

@MattD Hmm, granted.
I'm still pissed Vin Diesel didn't do the German dub.

A J
@NapoleonWilson I did write one during graduation. not for Ph.D, but for graduation.

@DForck42 Does for me. Ruins the balance of the poster as well as the creative "stack of 80s mix tapes" angle.

@AJ Me too.

A J
2:42 PM
@NapoleonWilson Great. What was it about?

@NapoleonWilson When you go to see movies like this in the theater, do you watch them dubbed in German?

@DForck42 Mine really do vary. Sometimes they're typical (discovering I can float, being unprepared for an exam), sometimes they look like movies or shows (and in one worrying case, spanned months and was about an entire city), and some are just surreal and look like junk in my brain hastily put together

@AJ Multi-camera markerless human motion capturing.

A J
@NapoleonWilson Wonderful

@MattD Yes. It's usually the only choice anyway, but I'd probably do it even if we could get the original.
@Walt Yeah, I have all kinds of dreams, too. One day I solve the world poverty problem with the help of eigenvalues and the next day I'm actually Sonny Crockett and having a bbq in my grandparents' garden.

2:46 PM
@MattD He was popular, but now it seems a different character altogether. I guess we'll see how this pans out

@AJ Meh.

A J
@NapoleonWilson what?

@NapoleonWilson And they turn out to be drug lords and flee, so you hop in your Ferrari?

@AJ Meh, it's just not a topic I enjoyed too much. Which might explain my reluctance to do a PhD in the same field.
@Walt No. I would have to look it up, though. I don't remember it too well.

A J
I also dreamt once that I have powers like The Flash.
@NapoleonWilson I was upset with my professor for the same reason.

2:50 PM
@NapoleonWilson Look it up? You have a dream diary or something?

@Walt But I once drove a yellow Lamborghini with principal Skinner to rescue a woman swimming in the ocean, if that helps. ;-)
2

@NapoleonWilson If so, I demand you display it here. It's a matter of public interest
@NapoleonWilson You dreamt about a 2D character? Weird. How does that work?

But then we just ended up flying towards Antarctica but actually flying once around the earth and ending up in somewhat of a hidden earth dimension wrapped inside the earth with an entire civilization hidden from the real earth. Which was an awesome SciFi concept I always wanted to ask some kind of question about.

@NapoleonWilson Those are just mole people. That's not sci-fi, my aunt was one

@Walt I don't know. It's like reading a book, I guess. You never actually visualize the character but you feel it's him.

2:54 PM
@NapoleonWilson True

@Walt Oh, wait, I think I misinterpreted my notes and it actually was Director Skinner from the X-Files.
It doesn't help that the German word for principal is very similar to the one for director.

@NapoleonWilson Ah, that makes more sense. He appeared in some of my dreams too! What is it about him?

I don't know. And I never even watched much X-Files to begin with.
@Walt I used to make one in the past. I was motivated by reading about lucid dreaming after watching Inception.

@NapoleonWilson I think I stopped somewhere around season 7. Then (regrettably) saw the revival

But I don't really dream that much over the last years, probably due to scheduling and sleep deprivation. I guess I don't reach too many REM phases since I have a regular job.

2:57 PM
@NapoleonWilson Those are hokum anyway, I dream even if I just nod off for 15 minutes

Yeah, I guess.

@NapoleonWilson Well, you might still be dreaming, you just can't be bothered to remember them once you wake up. I'm kinda like that lately too, for similar reasons

@Walt I know.
That's what the diary is supposed to help with. Both as a long-time memory as well as for training the short-term memory after waking up.

@Walt mine are typically VERY cinematic

@NapoleonWilson I tried that, but it was too much work

3:03 PM
@Walt I hear ya.

@DForck42 Those are usually fun. Unless it's horror :O
But more often than not it's just a generic action flick or a generic comedy

@Walt once had a dream that was basically a minority report knockoff
except, instead of replacing my corneas, it was a spongy parasite that went up my urethra that was used to hide me, for some reason

@DForck42 That... was thankfully not included in the final draft

@AJ It was largely my fault, though, since I didn't really refuse to do it either.

I once dreamt about a HIMYM knockoff, except it took place in a limo and everyone was really dumb. Like, the dialogue was basically Pinky-style Narf's

3:10 PM
I once was JD from Scrubs. But then it turned out I was 35 years old and on somewhat of a memory odyssey bound to reliving moments of my past life.

@NapoleonWilson Scrubs via Terrence Malick?

@Walt Knowing you, I'm actually waiting for a punchline there. ;-)
@Walt Heh!

@NapoleonWilson None, sorry. Lilly was the driver. They were all breaking up with one another or something, but couldn't leave the car. Oh well, the show itself was low on punchlines anyway :P
@NapoleonWilson Then my brain just went 'this is just awful writing' and bailed on the dream altogether

I still wanted to turn that dream I once had about being Tom Cruise and driving a muscle car through the Pacific Northwest into some reasonable story. (But as it turns out it might have rather been foreshadowing for my real life...except for the Tom Cruise part.) ;-)

@NapoleonWilson It's not all it's cracked up to be. A certain church will make you wear a tracking collar at all times

3:18 PM
Hehe!

@Walt lol

...But we might be alienating people, 'No one wants to hear about your dreams, [REAL NAME]!' is a phrase I hear not infrequently

@Walt lol

@Walt Uhuh.

Q: What supernatural thriller from the 2010s era has an adolescent girl develop powers on her birthday?

Russ GarrettI think she inherits witch powers from her mother, but it might have been psychic powers. She has no idea what is happening to her at first. One group wants to kill her before she can develop her powers and one operates in secret and seeks to protect and train her. The main characters are all te...

3:24 PM
@NapoleonWilson You could call it "Tom Cruising". It writes itself really.

We could talk about the Superbowl, but that might upset some people too :P

@DrRDizzle Yeah, I'd probably leave away the Tom Cruise bit and rather just demand that the character's role be played by him.
I heard the big names love it when you stalk them and show the scripts you have written for them.

@DrRDizzle Better than 'Mapothering About', anyway.
...OK, that was just awful :/

@Walt I didn't even get it anyway.

@Walt I think this may be an example of a joke going straight over my head.

3:27 PM
@NapoleonWilson That's part of the awfulness

I don't even know what "Mapothering" means.

@DrRDizzle Well, anything straight is going over Cruise's head

@DrRDizzle You see, it's a portmanteau made out of his real surname and 'pottering about', and... look, I already said it was awful, OK? :S

3:30 PM
@Walt Oh God, that really is awful.
@NapoleonWilson should ban you for that.

I thank you

Oh, I didn't even know he had a real name.

@NapoleonWilson None of their names are real. Except Julia Roberts, maybe

Yeah, I guess so.
And Emilio Esteves.

@NapoleonWilson Well, that's just a cool name, Why do away with it?

3:34 PM
@Walt I don't know. I could imagine his father had a much better socio-political motivation anyway. And the other son probably just followed his lead. I do find it cool that Emilio had the honour to use his real name, though.

@NapoleonWilson It just sounds suave

@Walt uhuunnn
@AJ well said
@DrRDizzle shut up
@DrRDizzle finally

Anyway, I'm being admonished for pottering about in chat rooms and neglecting certain duties. Sheesh. People need to get their priorities straight
Bye for now :/

@NapoleonWilson nopes

@Walt L8ers.

3:47 PM
@DForck42 quite good, hangover is gone too
@Walt bye
@Walt so sorry for that
@MattD ???
@MattD of course they will
@NapoleonWilson how does it even matter , he did nothing at all in English version either

@AnkitSharma It's a cool idea, though. And he did it for a million other languages, too.
Besides that he has an awesome voice.

@NapoleonWilson uhuunnn
@Walt lol
@NapoleonWilson yeah but it was not nessasary and we even have question on it

@AnkitSharma Yes he did. He's got a great voice, and he gave Groot a sense of personality that the character otherwise may not have had.

has the squirrel been sighted since last night?

Everyone loves Groot for a reason.

A J
3:55 PM
Catching up with chat, are ya?

or is she still in a faint

@Walt is the revival that bad
@DrRDizzle bleh

A J
@Riker for a while during afternoon.

ah okay

@Riker no idea
@AJ yup

6 hours ago, by steelersquirrel
I had to watch my favorite sports movie tonight to forget about having my heart broken by the super bowl earlier :'(
sad things looks like

A J
@AnkitSharma lol. There are so many arrows.

@AnkitSharma Don't you "bleh" me. He was the Iron Giant! He's got a great voice.

A J
@DrRDizzle He can meh you then. ;P

@DrRDizzle bleh

@NapoleonWilson why would you pick him , grrrrr
I missed dream talk

3:58 PM
in other news, this looks pretty funny:

@DrRDizzle I can bleh anyone I want
2

@Walt I still regret missing dream talk. I have seen mystery , horror , sci-fi, erotic , romantic dreams

which one looks better?

@Riker both same to me

4:00 PM
hm okay

@DrRDizzle now you will understand my pain

@AnkitSharma Because he's an awesome actor who's always likeable? Besides that I probably just mixed impressions from Jack Reacher and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes into a single dream.
And what's with all the effin' Napoleon Wilson pictures here?
@Riker Why?
@Riker The former, because that's the actual movie scene.

In one of my dream I completed a film which I left in middle, eve TV was loud so that sounds got incorporated quite well while I was sleeping
@NapoleonWilson I just can't stand him

@AnkitSharma good

4:08 PM
@AnkitSharma I know, as many people, unexplicably.

Tom Cruise is great!
He always gives 100% in any movie he's in.
You can't ask for more than that.

still feeling too thirsty , must be little dehydration
@DrRDizzle you gave me another point to dislike him
@DrRDizzle i want less way way way way way way way way less
I like him only in few good men left

@AnkitSharma lol

@AnkitSharma So you'd rather he didn't give a shit about the movie he as in and didn't try to give a good performance? Weird.

@DrRDizzle as expected you didn't got it

4:11 PM
@AnkitSharma If you expected me to not get it, maybe you should have may your intent clearer.

or didn't get bothered at all :P

@AnkitSharma Well, I didn't either, if that helps.

lol
plan successful \o/

Tom Cruise movies = awesome
Tom Cruise = awful
2

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++star

4:14 PM
I have never liked an actor's movies so much yet at the same time not liked anything that actor does outside of their work

I can't tolerate Kristen Stewart, Tom Cruise and WIll smith's kids

@Skooba The trick is simply not caring about crap he does that has zero bearing on his work.

@NapoleonWilson pretty much

That's why I find Tom Cruise awesome. Since he's just a guy playing great roles and being amazing at that. The sect fanatic simply doesn't exist.

@NapoleonWilson I don't mind if he do Scientology or demonology or jump on sofa or jump like a gummy bear but I don't like him because of his same repetitive roles with no depth

4:17 PM
@NapoleonWilson the same goes for anyone in the entertainment business, really

I get really bothered by all this hate he gets here for his affiliation with that lunatic sect. It leads to people disregarding his movies, which I have a problem with.

you kind of have to segregate their entertainment from who they are, otherwise it's a LOT harder to read/watch stuff

Q: Why didn't the closed captioning team have access to the Super Bowl halftime show song lyrics?

ThunderforgeAt our house, we had closed captioning on for the Superbowl LI halftime show. We noted that the closed captioning was quite a bit behind the words being sung by Lady Gaga (as is typical when the team is typing them live), and there were some mistakes as well (at one point "This land is your land"...

4:45 PM
@steelersquirrel thanks for the bounty on that Skeleton Key question :)

5:01 PM
@AnkitSharma It's unwatchable. Save for episode 3, which was mildly amusing. If you absolutely must watch any of it, watch that one.

5:39 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yes. It's a baseball movie. It's still my all time favorite sports movie.
@sanpaco You're welcome :)

wow you are finally here

@steelersquirrel dat game last night doe...

@DForck42 those wood chippers were looking very inviting this morning....

@Skooba lol

I was literally in tears. You know when everything in your life and all of the stresses that you have all hit you at once? That's what happened to me yesterday right when the Patriots won. I had a complete meltdown ;)

@DForck42 I humbly congratulate her team :)

5:48 PM
That's probably my fault too. :'(

@steelersquirrel :-D
we had actually given up on the game at the beginning of the 4th, went up to bed and computered for a while
came down for the post game show, lol

the tv rating for the game were actually the highest in Pittsburgh
the falcons summed up

Wasn't Willy Mays also the guy that Will Smith had a signed ball from in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air?

@NapoleonWilson Well...that started it, coupled with probably the worst time in my life the last time I had to watch them come back to win a super bowl. Anyways, it's over.

5:55 PM
Oh, I didn't know that. I'm sorry. :'(

@NapoleonWilson I don't know.
So...a "basket" catch in baseball is like show boating. Good to know :)

> You, president? This is the greatest country in the world. We've got a system set up to keep people like you from ever becoming president. Quit your daydreaming, melonhead!

Q: At what point does friendship become queerbait?

newtI'm asking this specifically about BBC Sherlock, in regard to John and Sherlocks relationship. As a queer person, and as a fan of the show, I've been seeing a lot of complaints about 'Johnlock,' and how Moffat/Gatiss had the opportunity to make John and Sherlock a couple, but didn't. I'm aware wh...

@Walt Agreed. Easily Googleable. Also, if OP didn't realize that Nicole Kidman was portraying Virginia Woolf, and that's the reason for the make up, they have bigger issues ;)

I don't know if he didn't realize that. Maybe he simply didn't know who Virginia Woolf actually is, let alone that she's a real person. I only know her from hearsay, too (and don't know how she looks).
But I admittedly haven't seen the flm either.

6:14 PM
@MovieReel what to say

Well, yeah...but, after you're finished watching the movie, you could Google Virginia Woolf or Google "Nicole Kidman appearance in the hours" and find it in 2 seconds.

Okay then.

Q: Old movie with a funny bicycle scene

AnnaIt's an old comedy movie, I think black and white. There's a man on a bicycle (it could be Carey Grant) and the bike gets more and more out of control - at one point both of the pedals start pedaling in the same direction. That's all I remember!

@sanpaco You're welcome :)

@steelersquirrel lol you already said that :) but thanks again!

6:22 PM
@NapoleonWilson the eyes are weirdly slanted

Because he's looking to the side, I guess.

yes
but zoomed in it looks pretty funny IMO

@sanpaco Haha! Oh, God. I'm sorry. This is where my brain is right now ;) I have like 22 pings from 4 different chat rooms ;)

@NapoleonWilson just because you don't have much of a sense of humor doesn't mean everybody doesn't :P

@steelersquirrel lol

6:23 PM
so, we might be going to see lady gaga as part of our honeymoon :-D

what O.o

@steelersquirrel never a bad thing to be overly gracious :D

@DForck42 Oh, cool!

@DForck42 why would you want to do that again

@Riker cause she's a good artist and my fiancée is excited about it

6:25 PM
lol
@steelersquirrel also: if you have a irl-and-internet boyfriend in napoleon, did that mean skooba got demoted?
do I need to update the picture again
imma update the pic

@Riker I don't know why everyone thinks that Skooba and I had any kind of internet anything...I know that it's all in fun and we are all messing around, but I would never even claim a fake internet relationship with an actual married man ;)
2

@steelersquirrel we have now jumped the shark....

Hehehe!

@MovieReel So...is "queerbait" offensive or are people just losing it again?

@Skooba I think that everyone assumes this because we have so many illegitimate internet children together ;)

6:35 PM
Probably.

@NapoleonWilson well consider the OP claims to be "queer" himself, and gives the definition of what he is talking about, and that actually it well thought out question, even if it is off-topic because it opinion based.... I would say no, it is not offensive.

@NapoleonWilson Well, I remember kids being called that in school when I was a kid, but the way that it's described in that question doesn't seem to be.

@Skooba Which is what I thought, too. But I admittedly haven't bothered to read the question yet.

and considering the community is now referred to as LGBTQ... the Q meaning Queer.....

@Skooba Good point!
Also...the word is needed for the question to make sense, imo.

6:38 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I aw it pop up in the feed and was ready to go have some "Fun with Flags", then read the question and realized it was fine as far as "offensive" goes. I would say it off-topic tho and would have cast a close vote but I don't have 3k rep here.

I personally havent' seen any of my non-hetero/non-binary friends tell me queerbaiting, as a term, is offensive

now if it was queerbating that would be a different story.......

I don't know if I was supposed to laugh at that or not, but I did ;)

But I've added some precautionary quotation marks anyway.

I actually have a rant about "queerbaiting"...

6:42 PM
Unfortunately it'll probably just end up on my long list of interesting stuff to consider for repairing and reopening once I ever find the mood and time for.
It seems pretty much the kind of question this site is supposed to entertain and I'd treat it for 10 "ID this crap I dreamed about" and "which car model is passing by in the background there?" questions.

Gheez. I don't see how that question is primarily opinion based...
@NapoleonWilson I know. I'm not understanding all of the close votes on it, I guess.

But it's not like I'm surprised about it. It had a big chance of falling into the primarily opinion-based trap. In fact I preemptively voted it up before reading through it to mitigate the possible effect of the wrong people taking a look at it first and an early downvote-accumulation.

@steelersquirrel it's essentially asking three different questions: when does something become queerbait, should the writers be obligated to create johnlock, and does the treatment of the show by the writers make it queerbait.
none of those are objectively answerable, imho

and straight from the OP's mouth
However, and I'm not sure if this is the right platform because I'm trying to get opinions and hopefully start a discussion

Yeah, that probably didn't help the question.

6:53 PM
Yeah...I left them a comment to reword it a bit.

There have been awesome on-topic questions that felt the pain from mistakenly putting such a statement into them.

but it still could be "Did the creators say anything" which might be objective

It's a really interesting question. I had no idea there was a term for that.

@steelersquirrel yeah I know but I still put him on that brady bunch img

@Riker That's fine. He is your internet father after all ;)

6:58 PM
lol
no more skooba yes mr grumpface

@Riker :'(

They did it pretty much on Person of Interest too, with Root and Shaw, but they actually followed it through with making it official, including a kiss (and even sex, even if that was more of a dream sequence).

my kids dont want me any more :((

@Skooba @steelersquirrel did you guys unadopt bleh yet
