Q: What exactly happened to Louise's first husband in the Arrival?

David HobsOn a lot of shows, especially The Flash and Arrow, characters say they'll do something and then say "I promise." Often times making promises for things they have little control over. @MovieReel That's a very reasonable and obvious question. So much that I can't really think this isn't a duplicate. But I'm too lazy for checking right now.

So apparently IMDb is doing away with their Message Boards system. I spent so much time on the X-Files board when I was working in call centers, it's kind of sad to think of it going away even though I haven't really been active there in years.

Is that the comment section linked at the bottom of the IMDb pages?

:P
@sanpaco Why are they doing away with it?

user132126
Probably a moderation nightmare.

I only know that as a cesspool of diverging forum posts really. So...basically like any other non-SE forum. (Though, still a level above YouTube comments.)

@NapoleonWilson No, that is staying, its the section the usualy shows 5 topics then a link saying "Discuss this movie"

I think it's funny when you see a heated argument in the threads. Hehehe!

They said it no longer provides a positive experience... lol
It was pretty much nothing but trolls even 10 years ago when I was using it daily.

@sanpaco I think that's what I meant. I just ckecked and it's the one that says "Message Boards", right? What else is there?

@NapoleonWilson Oh yeah that's it. There's also "user comments" where different users can leave their own reviews. I thought that's what you were referring to.

@sanpaco Oh, no, the reviews are largely on-topic.

@NapoleonWilson Agreed, and it helps that they pick one to show based on helpful flags

6:44 PM
(And I'm coincidentally just reading a featured IMDb review of Arrival that gives 1 star and says "waste of time".) ;-)

@NapoleonWilson lol I stand corrected

I like the plot synopsis that IMDb gives.

@sanpaco Well, 18 of 28 people found it helpful, so...

@NapoleonWilson 18 out of 28 people couldn't follow a plot with more than one layer of complexity.

I'll admit I didn't get it either. Been years since I've seen Shrek.

@steelersquirrel I'm paarrrriiiitttty sure we talked about this already, though. ;-)

I love that scene, btw...when Donkey is going on about how delicious parfaits are. Hehehe!

I just never got around to it. And since I'm not the hugest animation enthusiast to begin with, I never had too big of a motivation to do so.

@steelersquirrel To be honest, I don't really know, maybe we didn't. ;-)

Awww! Meesa be sorries is. :'(

@NapoleonWilson The animated movies now are frigging hilarious, though! I prefer DreamWorks to Disney...like Over the Hedge and Shrek, they are so funny!!
OMG. I thought that was going to die at the end credits of Shrek when they're all singing karaoke!! Hahaha!!

@steelersquirrel Hehe, I know. I like some animated movies of course. I usually enjoy most of the ones I watch, even if I'd only regard some of them as memorable and really good, like Rango or Inside Out.

I have seen neither :(

I just don't seem to catch the whole hype around them, be that Toy Story, which is supposed to be some awesome writing messiah to ever grace cinema, or that Minions thing. Or the general Pixar craze people fall in over themselves whenever they make a new film telling good old common stories through cutesie talking candybars. <end rant>

7:02 PM
Well, I don't fall all over myself for Toy Story and stuff, but it's a unique story and I always thought that my toys were alive when I was a kid...I just thought that they never talked to me because they didn't like me ;)

@steelersquirrel Awww, really? :'(

I thought that my toys all had a secret society together or something. Yes, I did think that...I was kidding about them not liking me.

Oh, okay. ;-)

So, when Toy Story came out, I totally related to it and was relieved to know that someone else thought that when they were a kid, too ;)

Hehe, well, cool! ;-)
It's a nice film for sure.

7:11 PM
@NapoleonWilson lol I kind of tend to have the same opinion about animated movies. Grab some A-list actors to do voice acting, choose to tell a basic plot from the point of view of talking fish or something, throw in some cutsie jokes and pop culture references. And a week after watching the movie no one remembers it was even a movie.

I liked Small Soldiers more, though. ;-P

@NapoleonWilson Seriously? OMG! I loved that movie and everyone else makes fun of me for it!!

Plus I miss the good old days of hand drawn animation.

user132126
Plenty of recent Disney Pixar stuff wasn't that good, but still better than most Dreamworks stuff!

@AnkitSharma I see you asked your Spaceballs question that you have been wanting to ask!! Nice!!
@MovieReel Wait. What?
I thought that I was able to see deleted comments and stuff now...
Actually, it's probably best that I can't see deleted comments from last night. It would just end up annoying me ;)
For a site that is always telling people to "Be nice", y'all let people keep being jerks ;)

7:35 PM
@steelersquirrel No, only deleted questions and answers. Noone can see deleted comments apart from the moderators.
@steelersquirrel By...deleting their jerk comments? Sounds like we're not letting people be that.
(Though, I honestly don't actually know what comments or questions are being talked about here. But now my interest is piqued.)

I still see a not so nice comment, but I am not flagging it, because last time I did, my flag was declined.

I see.
But I honestly don't even know what post this is all about.

@AJ Re: Your recent answer to the titanic question...James Cameron talks about the opening scenes and prop items that he used like the shoe and the porcelain doll face in a documentary called Ghosts of the Abyss. He says that he showed these things to add a human element to the film...reminding viewers that real people and children suffered and died on Titanic. Just thought that you might find that helpful, since OP was looking for a reason why Cameron chose to use that :)

Ankit SharmaIn Spaceballs, Colonel Sandurz uses the Spaceballs film itself to find where the princess is. During that scene, we see Colonel Sandurz's film collection has many films: A few are quite easy to spot, like the Rocky series (up to Rocky 14) and Friday the 13th on the left side of it and Spaceba...

@steelersquirrel Whoa, cool! That sounds like an actual answer.
So, what actually happened to Tom Hagen and why wasn't he in the 3rd part? Was that a concious writing decision or was Duval reluctant?

I'm pretty sure it was from Ghosts of the Abyss. I know that Cameron talks about it. I'm not adding an answer until I know 100% where it's from. Well, maybe I can just say that I saw it a long time ago on an interview somewhere without a source and get a bazillion upvotes. Who knows ;)

@steelersquirrel ;-P

@NapoleonWilson Don't they say something about it? I have only seen the 3rd one 6-7 times, I don't know it like I do the first 2.

@steelersquirrel Hmm, maybe I missed it.
I do like the film, though. Sure, the first two are better, but I never got the broad hate this film enjoys. It has some really nice parts.

7:59 PM
@NapoleonWilson I can't get over Sofia Copolla's acting in that movie. It's too painful to watch ;) it just didn't have that special thing that the first 2 had. I don't know.

Hmm, I never got that so much either. Maybe it's improved by the German dub or I'm simply not too sensitive to acting issues.
It does have Andy Garcia, though!

And Andy Garcia is kinda an outcast to the family while growing up and then, boom! He's the new Don at the end? And the whole thing with Michael's son was irrelevant.

@steelersquirrel What, you mean his singing carreer? Didn't it provide a great emotional backdrop?
And it also set up the really good opera scene at the end.

hello

Hello.

8:04 PM
@steelersquirrel are you still frustrated about that?
nothing wrong with being frustrated

But sure, Garcia came a little out of nothing. Whose son was he actually, Connie's and Carlo's? Or Connie's with someone else?
Or wait, Sonny's?

@Riker Yes. I'm a little frustrated by it. It's not the fault of the OP. This was their first post here. I just don't like encouraging unsourced answers like this and that thing got so many upvotes, that it just promotes those types of answers as being acceptable, which, imo...they shouldn't be. I left OP a comment about it and down voted it. That's all I can do, I guess.

@Riker Troop? Like boy scouts?

yep

Ahhhh...I see!

ye it's fun to be part of a troop
camping is fun

8:25 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yes. His singing career. What type of emotional backdrop do you mean? Yeah, it provided the scene at the end, but that could have been done outside of any opera house. Meh. I don't know.
@Riker Do you guys still get badges for helping internet mothers old ladies across the street and stuff? ;)

@steelersquirrel It's just character building for his character, I guess.

@steelersquirrel nope
but we do get them for shooting 10 out of 10 clay pigeons with a shotgun

It showed that he wanted to do something else, in contrast to whatever his daughters name was, who is quite involved in his business.

:P

@Riker Wut??? Seriously? AWESOME!!! Have you done it yet?

8:27 PM
i suck at shotguns

And it also showed that Michael was reluctant at first, wanting him to get a "proper" job, but then realized that it was a good idea and being proud of him. It's part of Michael's change of heart, I guess.

so I've tried a couple times, just not phsyically big enough to hold/aim it

I don't know, something like that.

14 yr old / 110 pounds

So instead of helping people you're learning to shoot now? ;-)

8:28 PM
yep
gotta protect our country from them immigrants /s

@Riker Just shoot a 20 gauge. It doesn't kick as much as a 12 gauge and when you shoot at the clay pigeon, aim high and follow it down and use your index finger to point at it and just line up the barrel of the gun towards the top of the pigeon with your index finger and pull the trigger!

tfw your mom can shoot a gun better than you

Interesting how Joey Szasza's inscenation and assassination parallels Don Fanucci's, though.

@steelersquirrel my grandpa died recently (<1yr) and he had like 30 guns, so we have a 20 gauge somewhere
I'll try that next time I go shooting with my dad
(regarding g-dad's death: nobody liked him. he was a racist a**hole and routinely beat the crap out of people who weren't white)

@Riker Yeah, they don't have a kick like the 12 gauge does. You should be fine with it :)

8:31 PM
Ouch.

yep
@steelersquirrel cool!

@Riker Okay...wut? Like physically?

yes
3 assault charges
he was insane.

When he was younger? He just randomly beat up non white people?

yes

8:33 PM

not afaik
just really racist

Gheez.
@NapoleonWilson Wasn't there an orange involved as well?

@steelersquirrel Oh, I don't really know. I didn't notice. I'm too busy chatting. ;-)

@Riker Well, I was raised around them. I was shooting guns at about 10 years old. It's just how I was raised.

ah

8:38 PM
@NapoleonWilson I think that there was...I know that there's a bowl of oranges on the table when they all have their meeting before the place gets shot up.

@steelersquirrel Ah. Heh, da effin' oranges again!

@NapoleonWilson See! Didn't you read the awesome answer to my question? It was unintentional in the first movie, but since fans noticed that an orange meant impending doom...they added them intentionally in the other 2. Michael even dies with an orange in his hand.

@steelersquirrel will you disown me if I tell you I haven't watched the godfather
any of them

@steelersquirrel I did, I did!
@Riker Yes, immediately! ;-(

8:44 PM

@Riker (By the way, I'm not actually her "internet" boyfriend, though.) ;-)

@Riker Well, Napoleon is actually my real life boyfriend!!! We have physically been in the same room with one another and went on vacation together and everything! Nothing internet about it :)
Jinx!
And...yes! I will now disown you for not having seen The Godfather :P

@NapoleonWilson So...let me get this straight. I can't come in here after the super bowl and whine and complain and contemplate suicide after the Patriots win say anything about the outcome of the game until after you watch it on Monday? ;)

@steelersquirrel You can, I could just not visit chat until I've seen it. I can watch it right after my photo shooting on monday.

@NapoleonWilson Awwww. It's okay. I won't say anything in here. I will just go to Mos and complain to Skooba ;)

Or...I could simply watch it tonight. I'm sure they can do something against sleepy eyes in post-processing. ;-)

9:00 PM
@NapoleonWilson Make sure you give them Blue Steel. Hehehe!

@steelersquirrel You really can, I might not even visit chat until I've seen it anyway. When I wake up I'll go to my shooting and I'll watch it right afterwards.

It's upsetting to me that I had to explain to you what blue steel is ;)

Yeah yeah, I've seen it. But only once.

9:05 PM
Well, I think that you have the most adorable half smirk Harrison Ford like thing going on, which I find completely irresistible :)

Awww, that's awesome to hear, I was always proud of that, hehe. ;-)

You don't even have to try to be so frigging adorable, it just comes naturally! ;-*

Awww, ditto, little bright-eyed squirrel! ;-*

Has Andy Garcia slept with Bridget Fonda yet?

Sure, that was quite a the beginning.
They're already in Sicily now.

9:11 PM
Well, I didn't know how far you were. They're in Sicily where Kay and Michael have their "talk"?

@steelersquirrel Yes, he just showed her the puppet show.
Where she says "Honor, huh?". But unfortunately I can't find Michael's awesome reply in any transcripts on the web.

I always thought that Kay was lame until I read the book. Her and Michael actually had a hot and steamy sex life before his exile to Italy.

Which...immediately made her non-lame? ;-)

Well, she is far less uptight in the book.

Well yeah, I see what you mean.

9:16 PM
And Sonny's wife's scene in the first one where she's talking about "canolloni" size goes a lot further in the book ;)

Q: Need the name of a movie with teenagers and killer animals

Kamal QadriI once saw a movie with a group of teenagers staying together in a barn (i guess it was a barn) and drinking and smoking pot. This is how the movie is starting, and then I remember a girl is coming to visit a guy from the "party" and she stays there. Then some killer dogs/wolves show up in th...

Notice how I only remember the sex scenes in the book really well? Hehehe!

> You were so loved, Don Tommasino. Why was I so feared, and you so loved? What was it? I was no less honourable. I wanted to do good. What betrayed me? My mind? My heart? Why do I condemn myself so?

@MovieReel A teenage movie that starts off with teenagers drinking and smoking pot...I totally know what that is, because it's so original! ;)

I'd like to eat some cannoli now, though. :'(
(And yes, I'm talking about actual sweets. Real innocent baked sweets.) ;-)
(And not poisoned ones either.)

9:32 PM
@steelersquirrel yeah but it attracted controversy

@NapoleonWilson Don't worry. I wouldn't make any presumptions about you wanting to eat cannoli ;)
@AnkitSharma Yeah. I saw that. Did you expect anything less? ;)
I asked a question just like that on Sci-fi...which just earned me a silver badge, btw!

<sigh>

@NapoleonWilson Why are you sighing?

@steelersquirrel Nothing, I'm just sighing, don't worry. ;-)

Uhm...okay.

9:37 PM
I might cook me some noodles, though.

Cannoli?

No, they're sweets, not noodles.

Yes, I know. I was just being silly!

Oh, sorry. ;-)

Gheez, Napoleon! Keep up!
I'm wondering if @Paulie_D is working for Walt. He has high rep and only answers questions...it's part of Skynet's Walt's evil plan :P

9:45 PM
May'e.

@steelersquirrel TBH...I'm much better at answering questions than asking them. I don't tend to think about movies or tv episodes when I watch them. I enjoy them for what they are. I'm a research guy by preference....but I've enjoyed finding movies by seeing questions about them.

@Paulie_D Oh, sure. I just like to create conspiracy theories about everyone in here ;) Just like I'm convinced that Napoleon is actually a spy, even though he keeps claiming that he's not ;)

Oh...he's a spy alright.

See! It's so obvious! :P
Ankit actually put up a bounty to whomever gets Walt to ask a question. Hehehe!

Oh, Nicholas Cage was in it too?
I forgot that he's Coppola's nephew and changed his name.
Oh wait, apparently he just produced.

9:55 PM
Good God, man! How can you forget something like that? <shakes head> ;)

And it's Gage actually, drgh! So forget what I said.

Too bad that Nicolas Cage is completely crazy these days ;)

I thought that was one of his features. ;-)

That's his most defining characteristic

Him and Jim Carrey have both kinda lost it...which makes me sad, since they both gave me such joy in the 90's :(
@NapoleonWilson Well, I mean...seriously lost it. Like, with the whole Lisa Marie Presley thing and stuff. I don't know.

9:59 PM
Hmm, I'm not sure I follow. I'm not huge on celeb gossip.
