I swear to God...I don't even want to contribute to this site any longer because nothing seems consistent, people are downvoting and slapping close votes on almost every frigging new post, weird trolling is happening, I have zero clue anymore what's on or off topic because of the inconsistencies and confusion. This is just frustrating.

If it's possible to see who's downvoting and/or voting to close (possibly from the admin side) I'd be curious to know if it's new users.

That said, I'd argue that those of us who've been using the site the longest and/or are at the top of the rep pool should do more to educate people on these matters, and to do what we can to prevent them from creating problems.

@steelersquirrel It is not like he doesn't have a point, though. I would also adivse you to not throw all incidents into one pot. Yes, there's some troll voting and close/reopen-voting going on recently and we're onto it. But this does not mean each and every close/reopen-vote is entirely baseless or done by clueless users.

That question is a little controversial and one or the other close-vote on it isn't entirely out of the ordinary. That's why there is a community and various people voting on the question to close or reopen it.

@steelersquirrel I'd say it's worth while. If it's the same set of people, I don't think it would be unreasonable to call them out if others feel their actions are creating negatively affecting the site.

@NapoleonWilson I'm not throwing anything into one pot, I was just giving examples. You don't have to "advise" me of that and it seems like the close voting is all over the place and inconsistent. Fine...not each and every one, but a lot of them are and it's causing confusion.

@MattD Yeah, I don't want to call anyone out, but just a friendly reminder of what to close vote and what not to, I guess. I'm so confused by it, that I am usually just skipping stuff in the review queue anymore.

A general post might not be a bad idea, but if it continues with these users then I'd say call them out. If they're causing problems and are either unaware of the fact or willingly causing issues, they should be dealt with.

What I would like to avoid is the impression that about every second close-vote is some kind of incomprehensible mystery. Yes, there were some weird close/reopen-votes recently. But the majority of them are just normal close/reopen-votes and even some of them that seem mysterious and unreasoned are for things that this site always had confusing policies for, like "trivia" and "subjectivity" and close-votes for things like that are basically statistical noise in the policy landscape.

That doesn't mean your complaints are falling on deaf ears either, though. Yes, there were some incidents recently where people bandwagon-voted and yes, a meta post might help with this. This issue about such a meta post has also been adressed by me previously and I didn't ignore your concerns, even if I admittedly haven't done anything visible about it yet.

@Passerby No, it was deleted to prevent any further drama from users who might not stop getting worked up about it. Deleting a chat message is not an automatic confirmation that the flag was valid. And if you're worried about "deleted evidence", the CMs can still see the message if necessary.

It's still there you can use a link in contact us page. As chat flags are not bulletin board
