Q: Old black-and-white political comedy about a young idealist running for mayor

LorendiacI saw at least the first half of this movie (but not all of it) somewhere around 1994 or 1995, on television. But it was all in black-and-white, so I feel reasonably confident that it was made no later than the 1950s. (Possibly earlier.) I would call it a political comedy. English language; set s...

@MovieReel It's damn much detailed.
2:01 AM
@AJ Walt should get that one pretty easily.
2:20 AM
Walt is on duty
2:34 AM
Well let's see how long it takes him to answer the ID Q.
3:22 AM
Q: Can someone help me with this?

CrisI remember that the firls dad was abusive and one night she killed her. Her boyfriend found her and was desperate to bring her back. He decided to revive her with some technology he had devoloped in the form of a robot or ai. It worked but it had some horrible consequences.

@MovieReel Really it's not a bad ID question,. It's unclear what you're asking. :P
3:41 AM
@NapoleonWilson ^^

@AJ What's with it?
Read first few sentences.
Maybe first.
What is it that bugs you? What is going on here?
3:59 AM
there is definitely some gender confusion going on there
@NapoleonWilson That's obviously an ID. But it was closed as unclear what you're asking
@NapoleonWilson There is nothing that bugs me.
@AJ Well, you just told me.
@AJ That is not apparent from anything. Of course we could guess that, but seriously, that's not how it works. It wouldn't have survived as an ID question either, but there is nothing in that question that remotely established any context what the question is about.
Yeah I agree. OP didn't tell what exactly he/she is looking for.
@AJ who he is
@AnkitSharma I don't know. I can't open FB here, so can't post memes now.
4:11 AM
You can google it though.
@AnkitSharma He is a founder of FB page called Rajnikant VS CID Jokes.
Apparently, his posts appear only on that page.
Googling gave me this
4:31 AM
Q: How did the OA acquire her wisdom?

Keshav SrinivasanThe newly-released Netflix series "The OA" hooked me in because in the first episode, the OA (aka Prairie Johnson) talks in a very Yoda-like manner, profound and philosophical. For instance here's what she tells Steve in the mall: Well, it's okay. You don't want to go there until your invis...

5:27 AM
@AJ still a bad ID , so I don't care
@AnkitSharma me neither
Can you access this page
I am seeking answer for this : movies.stackexchange.com/questions/66962/…
Does the actor answer that specific question ?
lemme see
5:35 AM
Spartacus wiki claim actor denied the romantic relationship and seeking a source to confirm
@MovieReel wow keshav asked a question here
@AnkitSharma Yes he does
@AnkitSharma Do you want me to post it?
I don't mind
5:39 AM
I can't access the link and I already have more questions to ask later

Is @NapoleonWilson not sleeping today? O.o

@AJ Nice answer ;)

@DrRDizzle But is't about your fav topic :p
@AJ he can be a program O.o
9:06 AM
@Bob Hello
9:30 AM
Q: Why Eurus was sent back to Sherrinford?

RippyI have just finished watching the Series 4 and I must admit that the last episode(s04,e03) was the most disappointing Sherlock episode in the entire series. So many potholes, uncleared doubts etc. MY major concern is regarding Eurus. She has been defined as an era defining genius, beyond Newton...

@AJ Hi!
@Bob How you doin'?
@AJ Partially melted, you? :P
nothing much
I just pinged you because you always appear in chat users list, but never talk.
Deja vu...
9:42 AM
Anyway, I don't get the meaning of Deja Vu
It's when you feel like an exact situation has happened before, even if it hasn't.
Déjà vu, (/ˌdeɪʒɑː ˈvuː/; French pronunciation: [de.ʒa.vy]) from French, literally "already seen", is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has already been experienced in the past. Déjà vu is a feeling of familiarity, and déjà vécu (the feeling of having "already lived through" something) is a feeling of recollection. Scientific approaches reject the explanation of déjà vu as "precognition" or "prophecy", but rather explain it as an anomaly of memory, which creates a distinct impression that an experience is "being recalled". This...
Q: What's up with people's accents in Vikings?

A.J. EvansI've recently started rewatching Vikings in English (I watched the first two seasons on polish tv with polish dubbing/voiceover) and character's accents started to annoy me. I'm talking about vikings (Ragnar, Lagertha and others) talking with a weird, really forced "accent". The show is American...

9:56 AM
I finished Netflix's Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
It's really good.
Trailer looks too kidish
10:14 AM
Well, it's based on a series of children's books, so that's appropriate.

Q: name of a science-fiction cyborg movie

BabsA movie from the 80s or 90s where a team of soldiers are out hunting a rogue cyborg However the cyborg is better and starts killing them off and the soldiers find out THEY are also cyborgs and didn't realize it till they get killed and show mechanical stuff inside them The movie ended with the ...

@DrRDizzle but trailer made me feel to keep distance from it.
@John hello
@AnkitSharma How come?
It gave me too silly vibes
It feels like a mix of Tim Burton and Wes Anderson. Highly stylised.
10:57 AM
@DrRDizzle I like Tim Burton style but not familiar with Wes Anderson
Anyway Burton also lost his touch lately
Wes Anderson is a great director. The Royal Tenembaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel?
I did heard his name but not seen his work
That's why said not familiar
@DrRDizzle Anyway how are you now?
11:23 AM
@AnkitSharma I'm still taking my crutches around with me, but I don't really need them. I've got them just in case it gets worse again, if you know what I mean.
It still hurts sporadically, but much less.
The biggest problem I've got at the moment is that it feels really weak. I don't like putting much weight on it in case it collapses under me.
Thanks for asking.
@DrRDizzle so sorry for your trouble
I am happy that it's better
Q: Is Euros mentioned in books?

vojtaIn BBC Sherlock, Season 4, Episode 3 The Final Problem we learn that: Is this name mentioned in any original story by A. C. Doyle? In what context?

11:40 AM
@steelersquirrel do you remember any Underworld quote worth adding to chatroom?
Or I should go with something else
@AnkitSharma Thanks lol
Q: Why was the Christmas present for Euros so important?

vojtaIn BBC Sherlock, Season 4, Episode 3 The Final Problem there is a scene, in which Later in the show all protagonists behave as if this Mycroft's decision was a very important mistake that ruined everything. I don't get it. As far as I understand it, this meeting changed nothing. They met... a...

Q: Why the change in "Rating" for Batman vs Superman in extended cut?

Q: Two Inexplicable Jokes in the Film "Airplane!"—Surely Someone Must Know What They Mean

freeling10In the awesome 1980 comedy Airplane!, there are two jokes that make no sense and I've never been able to find an adequate explanation for them. Is anyone able to shed some light? Near the end of the film, Rex Kramer (Robert Stack) arrives at the control tower to help Ted Striker (Robert Hays) la...

@DForck42 Good evening morning
@AnkitSharma lol, how goes it?
2:12 PM
@AnkitSharma lol
I just got into work
after a 3 day weekend :-D
I am jealous
I've got 9 tickets open
My TL is still being dick, today not with me but still. Work is lame but hectic and I am avoiding most of it but people bothering me.
@AnkitSharma TL?
@DForck42 I am in Database so tickets don't bother us. You have to send a mail or shout on our ears
2:14 PM
@DrRDizzle Oh my. Well, two people have really found each other there, I guess.
@DForck42 team lead. He is Sr Database architect but still kind of TL for us
@AJ Yes.
@AnkitSharma I've got 9 assigned tfs tickets, all for ssrs reports basically
@AnkitSharma ahh
@AJ Are you spying on him O.o
First rule of spying: Never reveal that you are spying a spy.
@NapoleonWilson Huh?
2:25 PM
What on earth are "starry eyes"?
@NapoleonWilson eyes made of stars, duh
@AnkitSharma lol +*
I was looking for some old messages, but I went too back.
@DForck42 may be sparkling eyes.
@AJ it is
2:42 PM
@DForck42 lol
> regarding an object or a prospect in an overly favorable light;
> If you are starry-eyed, you have a lot of thoughts and opinions that are unreasonably positive, so you do not understand things as they really are:
> Having a naively enthusiastic, overoptimistic, or romantic view; unrealistic
@NapoleonWilson ^^^
@AnkitSharma :-D
Should I change the "starry eyes" part of my question or explain it in a note ?????
3:01 PM
Q: Down-vote and loss of reputations

mattiav27I noticed that, sometimes, when I down vote an answer or a question I lose 1 reputation, but not always, so I wonder: Which is the rationale for the loss of 1 reputation after a down-vote?

Q: What is the resolution of the Lord of the Rings Blu-ray edition?

Bram VanroyAs a die-hard Tolkien fan, and admirer of Jackson's work on the original Lord of the Rings trilogy I have two editions of the trilogy. @AnkitSharma Hmmmm...I don't really know any cool Underworld quotes. Sorry :(
@AJ I'm here! My sleep schedule is completely screwed up this week ;)
@MovieReel yeah, that's off-topic
@Walt +1 on the Airplane! answer! My thoughts exactly!
@steelersquirrel k
@MetaReel Finally you are awake
@NapoleonWilson I have starry eyes. That should be enough of an explanation ;)
3:32 PM
@AnkitSharma Are you looking for awesome movie quotes to put up for the room?
My favorite movie quote probably isn't appropriate for this room, but I can throw some out.
@AnkitSharma Well, I was going to answer your Spartacus question, but I am so highly offended by it that I changed my mind :P
4:05 PM
I totally want to go to THAT Church!!! ;)
@steelersquirrel Well, you know what they say about explaining jokes. ;)
But I agree with the OP that it's nonsensical, but not pure nonsense (like some Python jokes, for instance). ZAZ humor is usually grounded in something.
btw, a series of unfortunate events is an excellent series, highly recommend
we've got 1 episode left
to watch
the fiancé and i
@steelersquirrel Anyway, someone doesn't like the answer, so there's that. And now the question got a CV because explaining something in a movie is apparently opinion-based. Well, there goes our most popular tag... People here are swell lately. :/
@DForck42 From the little I saw, NPH does seem to enjoy this role
@Walt yup
@DForck42 YES!
4:19 PM
@DrRDizzle :-D
And nice to see Sonnenfeld's name attached to something positive after a decade of awfulness
A recent, dump-month Shyamalan film getting decent reviews?! Now I've seen everything

Wow so many pings to steelersquirrel
4:35 PM
@Walt <sigh> I know. I have already said as much as I am going to on that subject ;)
Don't worry, we're onto the problem.
Wow! Ankit likes to ping me :P
@AJ I missed all those msgs and just reached home
Anyway wifi is down again so can chat only
Can anyone who knows Airplane! well elaborate what could be offensive about this answer?
@NapoleonWilson Racist..."spear chucker" and eating watermelon would imply something about African Americans. It is pretty racist.
4:39 PM
Nice answer by Pauline D
@steelersquirrel is that a sarcasm if not then I want to die
@steelersquirrel Oh, okay, I guess that was what I didn't get then. So you'd agree with flagging that as offensive?
It has nothing to do with airplane, but if someone wanted to interpret it that way, you could...the whole "joke" about African Americans and eating watermelons and a derogatory word to describe African Americans in the past have been "spear chucker"
@NapoleonWilson Well, I wouldn't have flagged it, but...yeah. One could be offended by the way that the OP worded it.
I can't even understand half of the racism
Okay, I wasn't aware of these connections and wondered about the flag, but I get it now.
It wasn't really an answer anyway.
I am still not clear but answer was bleh
4:46 PM
I don't think that OP meant it to be offensive, they were just connecting the two and there is stuff in that movie that would never fly today...like the whole "jive talking" thing.
Walt had an awesome answer as usual. I never would have connected the whole western scene in the background and the spear...
hello everyone, #BakerStreetBoys
Hello, #ChromaticAberration

@ABcDexter ty
discuss it next month
Anyway , we got another guy with same tendency @AnkitSharma has. :P
5:02 PM
The only thing I gathered from all the questions here was that is supposed to be crap. But I have disagreed with the internet before on that anyway.
@ABcDexter what is that
some preconceived notions that Wonder Woman is going to be a mess!
5:04 PM
@AJ what O.o
that too from someone who says that (s)he's a DC "insider"
Are they comparing it with 2002 one?
Then I will surely watch Wonder Woman in theatre
let the movie come and then decide, we shall see how
yes, bravo
3 mins ago, by ABcDexter
@AnkitSharma did you watched the Final Problem?
5:05 PM
What is final problem ? Sherlock episode ?
hopefully not alone, @AnkitSharma
yes, final episode,
we should refrain from discussing anything here.
one word for this season: Aaawesome!
Not into Sherlock
I am avoiding it

Q: How was RedBeard not found?

Paul LIn the series 4 finally of BBC's Sherlock, we learn that Sherlock & Mycroft's sister Eurus apparently killed Sherlock's dog, RedBeard, and hid his body where no one would find it. Later in the episode, we learn that Given that, how is it possible that no one found RedBeard? Wouldn't the sear...

5:20 PM
@steelersquirrel lol
@ABcDexter this early
@AJ I don't really care and can't even do anything till wifi fix
I'm logged in from mobile so I can"t do it either
@walt yeah because a question based on, and asking for personal interpretations of jokes, instead of production proof is totally not opinion based.
Then I wonder why it wasn't close-voted before you received downvotes on your very own answer to it.
which...just disappeared.
5:37 PM
Funny how it wasn't down voted until you got involved in the question
Funny how I didn't downvote it at all but 3 other users chose to do.
@AnkitSharma allow me to quote Merovingian... "It is remarkable how similar the patternof love if to the pattern ogf insanity..."
Anyway, I'm going to eat dinner. (@AnkitSharma you got the chatroom?) ;-)
@walt aside from that, you have a different interpretation than BBWEB'S comments, steelers comments, my answer, others online as linked by other users. None of which use any evidence. That's exactly what the primarily opinion based close reason is for.
There's a difference between"good subjective" and "bad subjective", though. Answers that favour the "why" over the "what" and try to provide explanations reasoned with the actual movie are exactly the kind of answer this site seeks on questions like that, even if they might not be 100% universally correct.
5:43 PM
@walt answers to this question will tend to be almost entirely based on opinions, rather than facts, references, or specific expertise
And yet again I question the decision to answer it in the first place then.
@walt another interpretation, the spear hitting a dart board signifies overkill.
Interesting one indeed, feel free to put it into an answer.
<faceplant onto keyboard>
@NapoleonWilson You're leaving? :'(
But you're right in that not everything is "good subjective", there's indeed a limit to opinionated questions. For example questions like this are clearly primarily opinion-based.
5:52 PM
Walt's answer got a DV. O.o
@steelersquirrel Yes.
@AJ I guess so.
@NapoleonWilson Alright, then :'(
@AJ That's not unnormal for an answer when so many people see that answer and some might disagree with the admittedly not 100% verifiable answer.
That just happens and is basically statistic noise compared to the multitude of upvotes it got.
@steelersquirrel Awww, I'm sorry, but it's scheduled and I'm hungry.
5:56 PM
Anyway, I am signing off. Gotta sleep. Good night @NapoleonWilson and have a nice day @steelersquirrel
Good night.
one question is now out of CV queue.
@AJ Good night :)
@ABcDexter didn't got it
@Passerby Huh? Most answers in 'plot explanation' and 'analysis' aren't supported by 'production proof' but rather by common sense. Are we reading different sites? Or are you devaluing 2 of our most popular tags and thousands of questions and answers in them?
@Passerby Also, don't Indians use spears in every western ever?
6:09 PM
I should better watch something not sure what ;)
Maybe god of Egypt
@Passerby OP didn't ask for an opinion... he asked for an explanation. And as you can see, there are plenty of perfectly good ones.
@Walt agreed
@Walt I wouldn't worry about it. Your answer is perfectly awesome as usual :)
Watching mulholland drive, I am sure many people from
here pushed me to it
@Passerby Actually, BCdotWEB & steelersquirrel also displayed similar interpretations to mine in the comments...
@AnkitSharma For the first time?
@steelersquirrel I don't think it's definitive, but well, it's an answer ;) Thanks
6:16 PM
@Walt yes, not seen it before
@AnkitSharma I won't disturb you, then. It's a lot to take
@Walt I never would have thought that the spear and the background scene with the western had anything to do with each other...that was a good insight that I had never put together before :)
I can multitask and might not even complete it today
I hope it's not Primer level confusing @walt
I tried twice and decided not to watch Primer ever again
@Walt bow and arrows...
@AnkitSharma It's a different kind of confusing ;)
@AnkitSharma It's more metaphorical
@Passerby Yes, those too.
6:20 PM
@Walt most questions aren't about obscure non sensical jokes with no lead up and multiple guesses about what it means.
@AnkitSharma I wonder what you'll think of it once a certain something is opened. But I won't spoil
@Walt you mean I will ask singinficance of 10-20 things in my upcoming question about the film O.o
@Passerby But thinking those jokes are all of that, that's the opinion... I don't think they're purely nonsensical at all. That's not really how ZAZ work
@Walt for now I am not sure what is happening
@AnkitSharma Wow, already? ;)
6:23 PM
@Walt first there was random dance and now accident
@AnkitSharma That's the beginning, isn't it?
I just started
@AnkitSharma I'll get out of your hair, then
@Passerby Why did you answer the question then? Just curious.
6:29 PM
valid point
