1:00 PM
But I am bit bad with sorting film in genres specifically sci-fi genre

Yes, Gravity was nice too, especially if you're more into realistic present day (or nearly present day) science fiction. In that case, you might also want to check out The Martian.

Martin and interstellar is good too but I enjoyed gravity more

2001: Space Oddysey was a good movie for me but every year comes new films and they generally are good films . Interstellar pretty cool for me :)

A J
Jurassic Park series, Independence day(only first one), Gravity

@AnkitSharma What kind of sci-fi are you into? Pure speculative fiction, action with science fiction leanings, space movies, dystopias..?
@AJ What's HP?

1:03 PM
@AJ Harry potter is fantasy not science fiction

@AJ I wouldn't call Harry Potter science-fiction, though.

@DrRDizzle dystopias like George Orwell creatures ? (1984)

A J
Oh I misread his question.

@wade-watt That's one, and so is A Clockwork Orange, or Mad Max: Fury Road. Part of the problem with sci-fi is that there are so many radically different subgenres it can be hard to know what to recommend!

A J
Independence Day Resurgence seemed comedy to me except for VFX

1:05 PM
@DrRDizzle To be frank none, I keep that genre on my non priority list but if i still go i will go for sci-fi thriller like paycheque or survival film like gravity or time travell stuff like time machine , predestination etc

@AJ Well, so was Independence Day.
8
Q: Is Independence Day a comedy spoof?

Shiz Z.I haven't seen it since I walked out of the theater disgusted in 1996, but I've recently been wondering if the movie Independence Day was intended to be a comedy. I was 19 then, and I went to see Independence Day expecting a serious sci-fi-action movie. Perhaps I had been led on by the super-coo...

I never got teh hype of Independence Day.

@DrRDizzle yeah , it was many different subgenres but ı must tell that i am afraid of Dystopias :/

@AnkitSharma If you're willing to watch something a little more cerebral, I'd recommend Alex Garland's directorial debut, last years Ex Machina.

@DrRDizzle Agreed, even soem thrillers can be called sci-fi but they didn't called such

1:06 PM
@AnkitSharma Well, it was just one of the big 90s blockbusters, with all our beloved 90s heroes like Will Smith. It was part of a time that saw some great action blockbusters.

A J
I forgot to mention MIB 3

A really interesting rather dystopian story is also Dark City.

@AJ I despise your taste now ;p

@wade-watt I know, they can be depressing.

@NapoleonWilson I do wanted to check that at some time in past but forgot it due to my messed up mind
@wade-watt What you feel about time travel films?

1:09 PM
@NapoleonWilson they generally can depression , I always think if scenes will be real

@AnkitSharma Your memories about wanting to watch it were probably just switched out. ;-)

@AnkitSharma time travel films can be fun , generally for me :)

@NapoleonWilson I am sure I need to make a real list now, my brain sucks

@AnkitSharma ı used to watch back to the time in childhood , then ı have watched a lot of movie about the time-travel but i think one of the films ( Source Code ) is very dramatic

@wade-watt I like it a lot and have seen lots of them and can recomend few : butterfly effect, predestination, Donnie Darko, terminator 1 & 2 only, The Time Traveler's Wife

1:12 PM
Oh, Source Code was nice indeed.

A J
The entire Terminator series was based on time travel.

For something similar (even if less scientifically coherent), you can also check Deja Vú with Denzel.

A J
I didn't see fourth one.

and The Time Machine (2002)
@NapoleonWilson yes that one too

What about the Russian Movies , can you recommend good Russian Film about the Sci-Fi but if possible film can be much older ( older films are better than i think )

1:14 PM
@AJ Which is the one that's not based on time travel much. ;-)

@AJ Only the first two are worth it, just assume humanity saved in the end and ignore sequels

@wade-watt Older Russian movies about SciFi? Then be sure to check out some Tarkovsky things, primarily Stalker and Solaris.

@wade-watt In that case, Back to the Future and it's sequels are excellent 80's movies involving time travel.

@NapoleonWilson thanks , I noted that films

@NapoleonWilson Agreed whole-heartedly.

1:15 PM
@NapoleonWilson If I am not wrong then you suggested me Timecrimes or was it walt?

@AnkitSharma I don't even know what that is, so yeah, that was probably him. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson ooops

@DrRDizzle yes , they are excellent movies :)

A J
Did anyone here see In Time?

@AJ Yeah, it was nice, but also not much more than that to me.

1:18 PM
@NapoleonWilson I did heard about the later one a lot, I think we discussed it yesterday or day before it but being from 70s make me bit non interested

@AnkitSharma You despise everyone's taste :-P

@AJ I went to go see it at the cinema, but we were running late and ended up not getting there In Time.

@AJ Yup, just ok fun forgettable time pass film

@DrRDizzle *its, dammit.

@Randal'Thor I cannae do apostrophe's.

1:19 PM
@Randal'Thor No only dizzle. And you don't even watch films , so you are not accountable

@AnkitSharma And @AJ, clearly.

@DrRDizzle ROFL

@AnkitSharma Dizzle, me, AJ, ...

@Randal'Thor NOBODY COUNTS YOU IF WE TALK ABOUT FILMS
And AJ still need to see lots of stuff and his taste can improve, he can get better. Dizzle is non redeemable
cc@DrRDizzle ^^

crii

1:21 PM
@AnkitSharma Because I (almost) only watch good films.
Which means I don't watch many at all.

@Randal'Thor Out of curiosity, what was the last film you saw, and when?

@AnkitSharma There's also a newer remake of Solaris from Steven Soderbergh, with George Clooney and Natascha McElhone. Which I actually found nicer than the Tarkovsky film, but maybe I just lost myself in Miss McElhone's eyes.

@Randal'Thor Because you almost don't even watch films and you didn't even know about most of teh films

@DrRDizzle The Princess Bride, about a week ago. Unless you count episodes of TV series.

@Randal'Thor If I was including episodes of TV, I wouldn't have said "film" ;P

1:22 PM
@AnkitSharma At least I don't watch trash films.
@DrRDizzle Meh, it's all the same to me.

I realized that in chat room , I am beginner of the beginner in Movies :) I have to watch a lot of ( much more ) movies

@Randal'Thor Fair enough. I consider books and magazines to be the same thing.

@Randal'Thor How many film you watch a year and can you list 10 recent one you checked

A J
I just switch on the TV and watch whatever is on air. Or go to nearby theater.

@NapoleonWilson I can try that

1:23 PM
@DrRDizzle Now you're just trying to bait me.
@AnkitSharma I don't count them.

@AnkitSharma Just be warned that it's a very (and deliberately) slow film.

@Randal'Thor I don't see any difference between War and Peace and the instruction manual for my fridge. It's all the same thing to me.

@AJ LOl, my first hollywood film was Child play 2. ;D
@NapoleonWilson K, I don't mind slow if presented in good way

@Randal'Thor I once mistook a roll of toiler paper for the World of Time series because they were presented in roughly the same form.
;P

@Randal'Thor lol, how can you even defend your choice even if you don't even remember it and you mostly trash every film based on any kind of book or you didn't even heard about it

1:26 PM
@AnkitSharma I have no idea how many films I see in a year either. That's hardly proof that he doesn't have a valid opinion on films.
"How many shits did you take last week?"
"I have no idea."
"Then your opinion on poo is invalid."

@DrRDizzle Was that (1) a deliberate misname to piss him off further, (2) about a different series actually called World of Time or (3) just a mistake?

@DrRDizzle You watch every film , even trashy ones but rand hardly watch any film so I though he might remember it

@NapoleonWilson It was a mistake, but I'm going to act like it was deliberate.

@DrRDizzle I poo two times a day, so I can count my poo

Oh Christ
Abort topic

1:28 PM
And average can work too
@DrRDizzle poo poo poo

@AnkitSharma I don't understand why you are just screaming "DCEU" at me.

@Randal'Thor Ok better just point me to few 21st century film you think are good
@DrRDizzle ;D

@AnkitSharma I don't tend to watch really new films. Better to give them a while to prove themselves, to become cult classics or utterly forgotten or whatever.

Anyway I did supported DCEU but I never considered them great , same applied for MCU.

The Hunger Games series.
Stardust, which I believe is also 21st century.

1:31 PM
@wade-watt Don't worry. You don't have to watch millions of films to be counted as an "expert". You can browse the site's tags and see if there's some interesting questions about the films you have seen that you might be able to answer.

@AnkitSharma How dare you.

And the poo talk is getting too much for me, so I'm outta here.

@Randal'Thor Matthew Vaughn is one of the best working directors today.

@DrRDizzle Mod abuse reverted ;-)

@Randal'Thor I just can't stand to a film series where a girl took 4 films to shoot a arrow which even did anything important , rest she was just standing there.

1:32 PM
@Randal'Thor science fiction bro fist

@AnkitSharma Well, we've already established that you have no taste.

@Randal'Thor Stardust is in my pending list, so can';t say about it
@Randal'Thor same to u ;p

Sawdust is great!

@Randal'Thor And form the whole 21st century ur best pick is hunger game and my taste is bad.........ROFL

@AnkitSharma Gheez!

1:34 PM
@NapoleonWilson Was that (1) a deliberate misname to piss me off further, (2) about a different film actually called Sawdust or (3) just a mistake?
@AnkitSharma I didn't say it was the best. I prefer Stardust.

@Randal'Thor (4) Me just intentionally living out a mental misnaming I have whenever I read that film's title.

The HG films just happens to be the only new films that I've been interested enough in to go and see in the cinema.

@Randal'Thor Great, some small part of respect restored ;p

@AnkitSharma In fairness, the Hunger Games quadrilogy are some of the better big budget films released in recent years.

Have you ever been in a movie set ? ( general question for all users)

1:36 PM
@AnkitSharma Scoff away, Mr Sharnotasteinfilmsma :-P

user116211
And here Rocky V begins!

Well, certainly some of the better of the droves of young adult scifi/fantasy that Harry Potter opened the door to.

@wade-watt No, I'm afraid not. I'd love to visit one of the MCU sets though.

user116211
Oh man! Union Cane challenges Rocky!!

@NapoleonWilson They're intelligent, subversive, reasonably original, and for the most part, consistently well made. I'll go to bat for the Hunger Games films, even if I don't personally like them all that much.

1:38 PM
@wade-watt No, but I've read a few books partly or mainly set in movie sets.

@DrRDizzle ıt would be great for me and everyone :) also want to visit Pirates of Caribbean and especially Hobbit set :)

@DrRDizzle to me hunger game , maze runner , harry potter etc are same teen films which got more importance due to popularity of the book they are based on
@wade-watt unfortunately not

@wade-watt There's a user on another site who actually played a role in Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

@AnkitSharma I don't think the Hunger Games books were all that popular until the films came out though.

@DrRDizzle The books were actually not particularly good, which is possibly why I appreciate the films so much, as they don't lose that much compared to the books.

1:39 PM
@wade-watt If I ever got chance to watch any films, set then I will prefer any big budget film ;)

@wade-watt I have been on the Harry Potter studio tour, which included visiting some of the sets and seeing some of the props and costumes. That was really cool, especially as a huge Harry Potter fan.

@AnkitSharma Well...

Q: Is this a genre, a plot template or something else?

beppe9000I've stumbled upon (and watched) a number of films that share many things: Divergent, The Maze Runner, The Giver and so on (I will add as I recall othrs that I've seen and from comments). These movies all share these common elements: a (more or less futuristic) social community with a (more or...

@NapoleonWilson He's on this site too, albeit not very much.

@NapoleonWilson what a nice experience :) it is a dream for me

@Randal'Thor I think the Hunger Games series is one of the few situations where the books and the films are pretty much as good as each other. Usually, one is clearly better than the other, and that isn't the case here.

1:41 PM
@Randal'Thor Yeah, I doubt even he considers himself being on this site, though, so I chose the safer wording. ;-)

@DrRDizzle I watched first one at home and decided to watch all when cable will broadcast them. Never read the book but I assumed it fall under "hey see best selling teen book franchise lets make as many films out of it "
@Randal'Thor who?

@AnkitSharma No, it was more "We need as many young adult films as possible. Let's grab anything we can and turn that into a film".

user116211
The accountant was given the power of attorney!!

@AnkitSharma Well, I think even in the book world they're at least considered better than many others of their likeness.
@AnkitSharma phantom42 played a pirate on Chow Yun Fat's ship.

I will surely place HG way over twilight and maze runner but behind HP but it's not my cup of tea and I don't consider it in any of my top list even not in top 100

user116211
1:44 PM
This crazy Paulie ;(

@AnkitSharma Yeah, sounds reasonable (except for the tea thing).

@MAFIA36790 Does he still have his robot? I haven't seen Rocky V or Rocky Balboa.

user116211
@DrRDizzle No; it's not shown.

@NapoleonWilson SO you are more into coffee ;)

@MAFIA36790 :(

user116211
1:46 PM
Meanwhile, Rocky got an irreversible brain damage.

user116211
This is official: Rocky retires :(

@AnkitSharma That, and the Hunger Games.

@NapoleonWilson ohh, I did heard something on mos about it but forgot

@MAFIA36790 What the hell is Rocky Balboa about then? Him learning to knit?

@NapoleonWilson k

1:48 PM
@MAFIA36790 Is that the one where he trains a young newcomer who then becomes a total asshole and he must beat him?

user116211
@NapoleonWilson I don't know; still watching.

user116211
Rocky is back in his old lair; wearing his old black hat.

Well, I don't know if that's what happened. But I faintly remember something like this.
I only know much about the 1st one and Rocky Balboa. The others I'm not even sure about ever having seen. Maybe the 2nd one a long time ago.

@NapoleonWilson Does he train his son or something? I'm sure there is a reference to his son in Creed.
@NapoleonWilson Does that mean you haven't seen Creed?

1:50 PM
@DrRDizzle I don't think so. I know his son from Rocky Balboa and it didn't seem like he was ever much actively into boxing.

@NapoleonWilson Ah, OK.

@DrRDizzle No, not yet.

user116211
He is standing in front of Mighty Mick's...

@NapoleonWilson I'm 99% sure I've said this before, but see that movie. It's ace.
Just solid film-making throughout.

@DrRDizzle I know, I'm also pretty sure you've heard before that I haven't seen it yet. ;-)

1:52 PM
@NapoleonWilson Everyone IRL always says I have a terrible memory, so you'll have to forgive me I'm afraid :(

@DrRDizzle Maybe you're also a victim to the memory-switching bald guys.

@NapoleonWilson I have no idea what you could be on about there.

44 mins ago, by Napoleon Wilson
@AnkitSharma Your memories about wanting to watch it were probably just switched out. ;-)

MIB?

46 mins ago, by Napoleon Wilson
A really interesting rather dystopian story is also Dark City.

1:53 PM
Oh, ok.

You gotta keep up with the chat conversation, dude!

Q: A woman steals identity and marriages

DrejaI saw a part of unknown the movie in the ninties. The plot is the following: A woman (probably a lover of a rich man) travels with her man. They probably go from Europe to the America by ship. One night she sees a girl, which jumps from the ship to the sea (commits suicide). As the woman (rich ...

user116211
oh! Burgess Meredith's last appearance as Mickey in flashback.

user116211
> Nature's smarter than people think.

@NapoleonWilson @DrRDizzle have a nice day :)

A J
2:00 PM
Is such argument a common thing here?

@MAFIA36790 Almost.

Q: Rocky Balboa flashback scene with Mickey Goldmill

sanpacoIn the movie Rocky Balboa (2006) there is a scene where Rocky visits the old gym where he trained for his fight with Apollo Creed. In this scene he has a flashback of Mickey Goldmill giving him a pep talk. Obviously this scene was not filmed for Rocky Balboa as Burgess Meredith passed away in 199...

@wade-watt Have fun!

user116211
He just gave a cufflink of Rocky Marceano! The moments were emotional.

@AJ Huh? What argument? We talked about millions of things.

A J
@NapoleonWilson the movie taste.

@AJ What did, from the many things we talked about?

A J
2:03 PM
@NapoleonWilson hmm quite so.

@AJ Ah, yeah, a little bit, I guess. That's often inevitable when many different tastes come together. We had worse arguments about that, though. ;-)

A J
Ok Gotta go. Good evening/Night @NapoleonWilson

@AJ Good night and good luck!

@wade-watt you too.

A J

2:11 PM
@DrRDizzle I don't we ever talked about MIB here ;)
@wade-watt Bye o/

1 hour ago, by A J
I forgot to mention MIB 3

@AJ Too soon for night ;p
@DrRDizzle ohhh, Didn't noticed that. Why would I noticed MIB3 when we were talking about best films from sc-ff- genre ;p

1 hour ago, by Ankit Sharma
@AJ I despise your taste now ;p
Are you just still playing along somehow or did you really forget this conversation?

@AnkitSharma: Terrible taste in films, and a terrible memory to boot.

2:29 PM
Anyway, I think I got it now, it was part of the joke.

user116211
Rocky is losing his son! For the sake of Gunn!!

user116211
Gunn wins his first fight under Rocky.

user116211
Everything is going fine with Gunn and Rocky; why did he go against Rocky then? Fool ;(

user116211
Meanwhile Rocky Jr. teaches a lesson to the bullies.

user116211
He is not giving importance to his son ;(

user116211
2:39 PM
> Balboa's Bomber

user116211
Oh! now I understand Gun has no sense of spoartsmanship and ethical values and has become greedy ;( He doesn't deserve Balboa.

user116211
Mick saved Rocky from the dirty business but it seems Gunn doesn't want to be saved ;/ Silly nonsense ;(

user116211
> He doesn't have your heart.

user116211
Yeh, Rocky fought with heart and not with mere muscles.

2:55 PM
I've heard Rocky V is the worst one.

@DrRDizzle later yes former not, I am not dizzel man he is the one with twisted taste

user116211
@DrRDizzle Maybe since it is different than all the other movies so far; it rather dealt with the psychological scenarios and also lots of drama; Taria has done some of the best moments of the movie so far - explaining the true value of the family Rocky was forgetting so far.

user116211
Gunn was always a lost cause for me.

@AnkitSharma My taste is sublime, and you're all lucky that I'm here.
@MAFIA36790 Sounds interesting, if not all that much like a Rocky film. I'll have to check it out at some point.

3:10 PM
@DrRDizzle That's unfortunate for us but nevemind if it make u happy live in imaginary world :)
Flash Season 3 having Rogue War
And three new rogue coming

user116211
@AnkitSharma Do you know the names?

user116211
@AnkitSharma Yeh, I know the actress; she is the main of the sitcom, Awkward.

Top was a guy i comics and cartoons
BUt not much big deal

user116211
3:17 PM
@AnkitSharma That happened in Supergirl too; the doctor who checked Silver Banshee was actually male in comics; although I couldn't remember the name.

user116211
Meanwhile, tommy Gunn wants mantoman duel with Rocky...

Don't watch supergirl, tired twice

user116211
Hey, Rocky, teach this douchebag a lesson ;((

user116211
@AnkitSharma Saw the season one completely ;P

@MAFIA36790 What u feel about it?

user116211
3:20 PM
Rocky is getting verbs of Drago!

user116211

user116211
And he punches that Duke!

user116211
3:27 PM
> Sue me for what?

user116211
Yeh, Rocky is invincible!!

You are spoiling a film which I don't even have any Idea about ;D
I just know that rocky win from a African American in first film and in second one he flighted for him or was that 3rd one

user116211
@AnkitSharma sorry ;P

;D
where is @steelerfan today

1 hour later…
4:41 PM
@NapoleonWilson Nope. Wasn't me.

@steelerfan Yeah, I thought so.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, God. I'm not getting into an edit war... especially with that guy. It's fine, I don't care. He actually improved the wording. I was just commenting how he basically rewrote my answer is all.
@AnkitSharma I'm here!! I have been at the pool all morning!

@steelerfan that will make u soggy

@AnkitSharma No...just wrinkly ;)

ohhhh

4:49 PM
With the right motivation old questions can get some really nice answers.

@MAFIA36790 So...how did you like RockyV? You know that Sly's actual son plays his son in that movie, don't you? His son that died about 6-7 years ago, maybe.
Also...the actor that plays Tommy Gunn is John Wayne's great nephew or something.

@steelerfan Oh, I didn't know that.
But the one from Rocky Balboa was a different actor then, I guess?

@NapoleonWilson That his son was in the movie or that his son died?

@steelerfan Both.

@NapoleonWilson Yep different actor. Actually, Stallone's son is the baby in Rocky Ii and then he plays his son in Rocky V.
I believe that he died from a drug overdose. I can't remember.
I know everything about Rocky ;)

A: What boxing matches were the fights in Rocky based on?

steelerfanThe answer is YES and NO. Rocky and Rocky III both contain inspirations from the life of Chuck Wepner. Rocky II and Rocky IV do NOT contain any inspirations from the life of Wepner. Chuck Wepner was the original inspiration for the original Rocky movie from 1976 according to Sylvester Stallone....

Boom!
@NapoleonWilson Did you know that Travolta's teenage son died as well?

5:00 PM
@steelerfan I think I heard it once.
@steelerfan Yeah, I guess so. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson I have just seen them all a bazillion times and I have seen every single behind-the-scenes thing about Rocky. My whole family loves Rocky ;)
@NapoleonWilson Is Walt really motivated by a +100 bounty? ;)

@steelerfan Well, I guess the bounty might as well just have driven his attention to the question. It took a little work to convince him of answering it at all.
But more often than not what you actually buy with the bounty is not only the motivation for people to answer the question, but also just the additional attention it gets for a week, which might show it to people who would have answered it but just never saw the question.
But I'm glad he answered it, since I had that question on my list for ages and the answer is pretty good.

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, he's always busy with work. He actually works at work...ya know, unlike the rest of us ;)
@NapoleonWilson Well, I answered 2 old questions because of your challenge, so, there's that.

5:19 PM
It's confirmed. I totally want this toy. OMG.
He even says "I wanna bounce" OMG.
Okay...every day that @Catija isn't around is a day that my mind thinks that she went into labor...

Q: What are the most famous movie locations?

whirlawayThis is not about any particular movie but about movies in general. The locations where movies were filmed sometimes become famous because of their association with the events and the characters in the movie. Perhaps the most famous of them is what is known as the Shawshank Trail. Another one t...

@MovieReel Las Vegas, New York.

@steelerfan I think he wants something else.

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I was being a smartass. That's why I said it here ;)

I see.
I'd like to go on that Chicago architecture trip that Keanu made for Sandra.

Sure, my dear :)
@NapoleonWilson Are you still at work?

5:55 PM
@steelerfan No.

@NapoleonWilson How are you? Are you doing okay? How was your day, dear?

Q: Questions most-viewed and least-liked

Shiz Z.I am curious about questions with lots of views but few likes. Is it possible to generate a report that ranks questions by likes per view? As an alternative measurement, is it possible to generate a report that ranks questions by difference between views and likes?

@steelerfan I'm fine. Day was largely relaxed.

@NapoleonWilson Okay.

Except for the nuclear missile that just went down behind my house!

6:03 PM
I would call you, but I have to go into AT&T to get some kind of card thing for my phone. It's actually been kind of nice not having a phone ;)
@NapoleonWilson Oh, God. Well, get underground, silly!

@steelerfan I see. :'(
@steelerfan Too busy taking photos of it.

@NapoleonWilson I'm sorry. I'm going to get it this afternoon. Just call me when you wake up tomorrow. All is well :)

@steelerfan I'm just joking. Don't worry. ;-)
@steelerfan I probably won't be able to call you before 5 am anyway.

@NapoleonWilson Wut? Why?

@steelerfan I have an assignment for lunch.

6:10 PM
@NapoleonWilson Ohhh...how exciting! An assignment? Like a mission?

@steelerfan Well, I'll be eating lunch at my grandma's, make of that whatever exciting mission you want. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Well, glad to see that you have your priorities straight.

@steelerfan In which way?

@NapoleonWilson Because, grandmother's always come before anything. I'm pretty sure it's the law ;)

6:14 PM
Yeah, that might be too late to call me. No worries.
Gosh, I probably can't talk to you until Sunday sometime, then :( A...Alright :(
