@NapoleonWilson It took a bit to get into.
Any thoughts on my Meta question about Continuity/Chronology?

@Catija They indeed seem to be pretty different things and should be used for different things. But I wouldn't adhere to the rather narrow definition of scene to scene continuity either. There's also episode to episode story continuity that is not chronology, I think.

@NapoleonWilson Yes. I was thinking that a new definition for Continuity could be something along the lines of discussions regarding actual or apparent inconsistency between shots, scenes, or releases (sequels for films/episodes for TV)

@Catija I don't like the emphasis on inconsistencies only, though.
Anyway, I guess I for myself will probably have to make a more serious study of the existing questions to attempt a reasonable approach at that problem tomorrow.

@NapoleonWilson yeah, I was having difficulty with that but was having trouble finding a synonym that works.
Maybe persistence?

Q: Does Bollywood title their movies using the Latin alphabet or the Devanagari alphabet?

John OA coworker recommended a movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. I had thought that spelling it in Latin might have been a to me. However, it is very easily googled with that string, and I see many images and posters with the title spelled out that way. However, Wikipedia says that the language is Hi...

@NapoleonWilson Well, the Meta questions about it aren't clear to me. The questions that I see seem to prefer the tag indian-movies over bollywood... meta.movies.stackexchange.com/questions/901/… and yet there is not indian-movie tag and there is a bollywood one.

@Catija Hmm, don't know, there's also this one:

Q: indian-movies and bollywood should not be Tag Synonyms

And @AnkitSharma did something with those tags recently, but I didn't really pay much attention thereto.

I think they should be synonyms, it's just that Indian-movies should be the primary tag. Bollywood is a subset of Indian cinema.
Or is there another term for that? Where one tag is primary and other tags are almost redirected to the primary tag?

@Catija Sure, that's also what @AnkitSharma's answer to the meta question says, but apparently not what was done, though.

Maybe it got done backwards accidentally?
Also, do you know how Stack Overflow got images in their tags? stackoverflow.com/tags/google-cloud-platform/synonyms

@Catija Not exactly, it has to be requested explicitly somehow. I think those are actually sponsored by third-party companies (I think those are even called "sponsored tags").

I was just thinking if we could get images in our tags, maybe we could use them for dates for film titles.

6:21 PM
Meta to the rescue:
12
Q: How can I set an icon on a tag?

npocmakaI don't know if the term is correct - but how are these icons set on some tags? Do I need a special privileges to do that? And what about the IP permissions - can I for instance set a picture from Wikipedia?

@Catija Meh?

Ah... Gotcha. Maybe we could get some income by getting Disney to sponsor the Disney film tags :P

Once upon a time I also played with the thought about marking movie/show tags specifically, but I rather thought about some special color, similar to the special meta tags.
But maybe one could drive that too far. Afterall SO doesn't mark their programming language tags differently either.
What would defnitely help would be to change that stupid 25 character limit to a global limit across all 5 tags (since it's rare that you need more than one large tag anyway). As much as I know the actual implementation limit is 150 characters for all the question's tags (separated by spaces) anyway, the per tag limit seems artificial (at least that incredibly small limit does).

Yeah. That's true. I just think it would be pretty to have colorful tags. Getting rid of the character limit (or even just increasing it a little) would be great...
I don't know what they're called but I feel like I've seen tiny year icons that can be used in text. If they were plain text and SE let us use them, they would only require one character.

@Catija I don't think tags are even unicode, let alone weird images. I'd wonder if a patrick-süßkind tag would already work. But I don't know, the Chinese.SE sites and firends have to do it somehow, too. But maybe they have special rules.
@Catija But I've never seen such 1-character year icons ever. (You're not talking about the little 4-number icons the browser shows when it doesn't know a unicode symbol, do you?)

Maybe?

6:43 PM
@NapoleonWilson The ones I'm thinking of are about the size of an emoji and they're four digits (maybe two on top of two?) and I think they're usually on a beige background with black text.

7:21 PM
@Catija @NapoleonWilson long ago i told to remove indian-movie tag because it got misused with every Bollywood question. But by mistake old mods made indian-movies tag synonym of Bollywood. Which was completely wrong. I just removed the synonym and now there is only bollywood tag left without synonym
Which seems ok to me for now

@AnkitSharma There should rather be an indian-movie tag (like there is for e.g. german-, japanese-, ..., ok, french needs to be fixed) and all those bollywood, kollywood, whateverwood should be synonyms of it. Like you proposed yourself.

Indian movies are big umbrella and it should not be a subset of bollywood

@AnkitSharma We're saying the opposite. Bollywood is a subset of Indian Movies.

Seeing that ian doesn't really suggest anything specific in his answer, I'd even go as far as saying that your +3 answer is the accepted community consensus.

There's no reason that a Bollywood question can't have an Indian movie tag.

7:27 PM
@NapoleonWilson I also thinks so but nothing happened that time, so when i became mod i just removed india-movie tag from being synonym of bollywood

So let's fix it and replace the Bollywood tags with indian-movie tags.

@Catija Is it not going to look clumsy if every bollywood question have both the tags?

@AnkitSharma That's the point, they won't. bollywood is (or should be) a synonym of indian-movie, that's what we're talking about the whole time.

Why would they have both tags? Am I misunderstanding how tag synonyms work?

@NapoleonWilson OK, i am fine with that.

7:30 PM
Uh...gonna do that now. If you disagree, speak now or keep silent forever...3...2...1...too late!

Hehehehheeee
I am going for my Wathcmen movie QA rampage,....you can go with the decision

YAY!

One should probably adapt the tag decription of indian-movie, though (once caching has accomodated to the changes).
So, fixed french, too. Love it how such tag things are now done with just three clicks and without any site intrusion.

For french and french movie, is there a distinguishing factor between French-language and movies from France?
Or are we assuming that all of the questions are actually about french-national films.

Q: Country tag consistency

Crow T RobotI've been having a look through the tags, and there's a few country tags from identify-this-x questions, however the names aren't very consistent. Some are the name for the nationality, such as: french spanish Whereas some end with the -movie suffix, such as: japanese-movie asian-movie germ...

And I'm not actually sure why this question has the french tag: movies.stackexchange.com/questions/17477/… as it's about American films released abroad.

@Catija Duh, don't ask for such details in a tagging area that's losely defined at best! ;-(

Ahhh...so less question on watchmen

@AnkitSharma So you hadn't seen Watchmen yet before at all?

@NapoleonWilson long ago

7:39 PM
If we were to do that, I would use the country name not... so it'd be France or Spain or Japan
To prevent issues with the language conflating with the country.

Finally watched it again but uncut version this time

@AnkitSharma But some absolutely great ones, though.

Seen most of them before
That's why i though we need more

@Catija Meh, I think that could too easily be mistaken for questions about that country as depicted in movies. I know, that's a stupid idea, but that's how new users tag things.
@Catija I'd rather we just accept that little language vs country ambiguity. The tagging is never perfect and such things ocur rarely only.

I know. It's a complex issue. It's just that sometimes multiple countries use the same language... like France... or England... though that's gotten around by using British film instead of English-film.
@NapoleonWilson So should we discuss using that meta question to see if anyone else has input?
Or just do it...

7:45 PM
@Catija Sure, but I would rather have that imperfection of someone using french when it ought to be canadian or vice versa, rather than someone using spain for a British movie about Spain. Afterall, I'd even think french-movie might be better than french in this regard, since it makes things even more clear, even if slightly redundant on a movie site.

We could change it to cinema instead of movie... because it will make it sound fancier.

@Catija If you have any reasonable arguments, feel free to add an answer to that meta question. I for myself am satisfied with the current status quo (that is ...-movie).

Cinema of France refers to the film industry based in France. The French cinema comprises the art of film and creative movies made within the nation of France or by French filmmakers abroad. France is the birthplace of cinema and was responsible for many of its early significant contributions. Several important cinematic movements, including the Nouvelle Vague, began in the country. It is noted for having a particularly strong film industry, due in part to protections afforded by the French government. Apart from its strong and innovative film tradition, France has also been a gathering spot for...

@Catija Meh, french-cinema maybe, but cinema-of-france seems a bit too bloated to me.

Oh, no I'd do french-cinema definitely... people will look for tags by country and could miss them otherwise. Just trying to show that cinema might actually attach the term to the country better than movie.
@AnkitSharma Is it worth sticking an alternate-version tag on that question as it relates to the ultimate cut?

7:51 PM

Q: What relevance does the comic reading subplot in the Ultimate Cut have?

Ankit SharmaWhat was with the subplot of comics "Tales of the Black Freighter" in the film Watchmen and how is it relevant to the story? Note: Tales of the Black Freighter is a part of Ultimate cut of the movie.

Afterall it's answerable very nicely as it ties in well with the comic story. But unfortunately I only read the comic version and haven't seen the Ultimate Cut. So I don't feel confident answering about the movie version as I don't know how well it was integrated there.

7:58 PM
I liked the ultimate cut more then original version
And atleast it gave to chance to watch it again and love it
And give upvote to old question which i missed :D

Afterall it's a question that may generate some good and interesting answers. Be sure not to plain accept the first "Duh, it was from the source material, dude!" answer after two hours.

Hhehhe

Maybe I'll take a look at the Ultimate Whatever Cut, too. Afterall, it was the first and one and only comic I ever read (because of the movie and my question about it). But I think I once looked it up on amazon and it isn't even available in my country.

BeofettAlan Moore and David Gibbon's classic graphic novel masterpiece, Watchmen contains an incidental character who, over the course of several parts of the series, is seen reading a comic entitled "Tales of the Black Freighter". The contents of that comic are shared with the readers of Watchmen, an...

But like said, I don't know if the finer connections between the actual story and the "Black Freighter" exist in the movie, too. But at least it shows why it was important for the comic, the movie answer might then just be the addition of a classic "they wanted to capture the source material as accurately as possible".

Hmm, from the many similarly reading questions here I already feared Predestination would be pretty hard to understand. Turns out it wasn't. It was very interesting but not really hard to grasp, it wasn't Primer really. But I should have known from my experiences with Interstellar that people seem just bound to not really get such stuff. And as with that movie I nearly feel compelled to shout at everyone "there was no friggin paradox at all, it was all self-consistent!", but nevermind.
