@user23013 damn you! :P
eight seconds. And due to the semicolon I couldn't derive my answer from yours
@FireFly I have edited my answer so you can derive now.
Oh, thank you
It's distance 6. One semicolon is already there.
Oh, right, I removed the trailing ~ instead but forgot to mention that

Is there somewhere to get a quick 10 points so one can answer this question? I have two accounts - one work and one personal. I came to this site first with personal and so only have one point. Had I come here with the work account I'd have 101 due to my point total on SO.
Cant you just log in with your work account then?
And sign it up to PPCG as well.
Actually that wouldn't matter. I can unprotect the question for a bit.

Q: ASCII's 95 Characters...95 Movie Quotes

Calvin's HobbiesIn 2005 the American Film Institute (AFI) produced a list of the top 100 quotes in American cinema (official). This code snippet compactly lists them exactly as they must be used in this challenge. <!-- Hit "Run code snippet", ignore the code. --><ol style='font-family:monospace;'><li>"Frank...

A: Answer-dependent questions

Martin BüttnerI would really like to make this challenge type work. (Full disclosure: partly because I seem to have come up with with a fairly popular challenge idea based on it.) But I do see a lot of problems. Answers on SE have no inherent order, and forcing one onto them just feels odd. In the case of a ...

Good morning :)

Wow there goes space and BF already
09:11
When reviewing posts, when it says This post has been flagged for its length and quality, has it been flagged by a person or automatically?
I've always wondered about that. I think both can happen.
Ahh. If it's by a person, then they must be flag-happy in most cases.
No I think most of them should be generated automatically.
That makes sense.
@BetaDecay I think the wording is still ambiguous as to whether the output should be the SVG file or actual graphical output that just resembles the SVG exactly/
09:27
@MartinBüttner How about now? I've specified that the output can be as PPM, PNG or to the screen.
see other chatroom
@Calvin'sHobbies So the Ook! one is invalid. Should we wait for it to be fixed, or should Sp3000 change his to No. 87?
I think if there is no change or promise to change it after 10 mins then go ahead and assume it won't be. (They can always answer layer.)
aaaaand fixed :D
:P
Hmmm there's no interpreters for unary...
09:45
lol
might be because you couldn't even store the program in Google's data centres
Well, it could just be an interpreter that takes the number of zeroes as a string
And uses string manipulations for calculations rather than actual ints
Well that's annoying. If I make a decreasing 95...94...93 list in markdown it makes it 95...96...97
@Calvin'sHobbies it's actually quite convenient, because this way I can normally use 1. for each point in a leaderboard, which makes rearranging them simpler.
just use a code block, I guess?
No, I want links. I just wont use period
10:00
I guess you could just put them in reverse order
that would also put the current winner at the top
Actually...sure
Nobody else edit for a bit, I might wipe yours away
btw, you might want to explicitly state that you're using a looser model of "programming language" than the consensus definition, if you want to accept HTML and Markdown answers.
Answer list added
@Calvin'sHobbies If the quotes should still be printed, then should the quote list have the quotes still in place? Just to make it easier to copy
Oh crap, I didn't mean to do that!
10:12
now the numbers are gone :(
I know, hang on.
Why the heck does excel remove quotes????
how do I turn a code point into a character in golfscript? o.O
10:26
Ok, everything is updated and back to normal.
10:54
Now it's the time to invent a language called HTML-PL, which says it is all the same as HTML, but is a programming language.
Btw, all you need to do is to prove that HTML can somehow compute primes, and we're cool. ;)
Also, there's basically exactly that comment (in reference to HQ9+) on the meta answer.
Links to proposals for this type of contest for posterity: Tetration (abandoned), Regex, Leave your mark, Blob (abandoned).

@MartinBüttner Shhh I want to leave 0 for me to use while I snipe all the weird character set ones
(secret plan)

I hope this "main" won't go away soon, I want to add one more language to the collection.
Vi.
Vi.
13:54
I think in the next 10 answers there will be C.
how are you going to do C without ( or {?
or are you talking about the first challenge?
or right, there's a main
Vi.
Vi.
There is already "main". When there will be something like "print", the C whould get close.
Is there already a second ongoing challenge?

Q: ASCII's 95 Characters...95 Movie Quotes

Calvin's HobbiesIn 2005 the American Film Institute produced AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes, a list of the best quotes in American cinema. Here they are listed exactly as they should be used in this challenge: 1. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." - Rhett Butler 2. "I'm gonna make him an offer he can'...

Vi.

There are a number of broken links leading to the question instead of the answer in those challenges. How do I see a problematic answer that was discussed before?

Example: `(Uses no f if http://codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/40603/32353 is recognized.)`
that's a deleted answer
the link isn't broken
you just don't have enough rep yet to see that answer. :/
Vi.
Vi.
14:09
I don't like the idea of "if ..... then delete your answer" rules.
Better just format them to be grayed out without deleting.
how would you do that?
Vi.
Vi.
For example, by <s>stricking out</s> the title.
Or editing it, replacing with (deleted) or (retracted).
hm yeah, but the policy is that invalid answers aren't to be kept around... or at least downvoted... in which case I can see why the author would rather delete it
that's one of the things I mentioned in the meta post why I think these questions aren't very well suited to the PPCG format
Vi.
Vi.
What's wrong with stubbing them, like with the sandbox submissions?
One can still view revisions if he likes.
they aren't answers, so they shouldn't remain on the challenge. that's just basic SE policy, I think.
Vi.
Vi.
14:15
The answer edited to be short, like just (retracted) clearly does not participate. Yet does not procude bad 404 links that break Internet.
but it can still generate rep
(positive or negative)
which it shouldn't
well you could make it CW
Vi.
Vi.
Voting for a clearly retracted answer?
but still... if it's not answer, it should be deleted.
@Vi. how would you prevent anyone from doing it?
Vi.
Vi.
I think if there is some visible discussion about the answer (on meta, in chat) then the answer is not that needless.
I don't think this prevention is higher priority than avoiding frivolous deletions.
Sometimes "nice try" invalid answers can still be a content worth looking at...

@Calvin'sHobbies Any issues with the last-man-standing tag ?
@Optimizer seems too specific to me
The ASCII one is more or less that only
or maybe royal-rumble ? :D
yes of course
lol
that sounds very unspecific and could be a synonym for koth ^^
I have to see how koth works
hmm, so no royal-rumble
that is indeed koth
last-man-standing fits better
but only in that one case
it doesn't even fit the original question
15:11
original as in the hello world one ?
oh yes. I am not suggesting the tag for these kind of questions
I actually added LMS on the ASCII one and Calvin removed it
ah I see... I probably would have done the same though
we don't even have a tag for this whole new challenge type, nor do we know if it's going to be a recurring thing, so I don't see a point in creating a tag that's even more specific than that
tags dont work like that. Its not like when we are perfectly sure that more than 5 or 6 similar questions will be asked, then only a tag should be created.
sure, but likewise we don't need to come up with a tag if there's no evidence that it could be useful more than once
15:15
well, It was already created though :P

@MartinBüttner I'm surprised people are still managing with "proper languages". I don't want to kill your awesome Golfscript solution :(
well, it's been around for long enough :P
Bringing out more BF derivatives isn't very fun though :( (there's too many of them)
yeah I thought so
20:27
Oh dang, this is still going
