I also agree for a second round of voting

Possible tag synonym: least-squares -> ols. Thoughts?

:100399 I would vote for opposite; I have an impression that it is more frequent used.

I don't really have a preference about either tag . Currently: ols[1] and least-squares[2].

mbq
So community votes for least-squares ;-)

I'd agree for least-squares; if there was a way to turn attempts to tag something ols into least-squares automatically it would be even better.

:99804 Going back to the topic of site name, I have another idea; maybe we should connect the second round with logo/site look contest?
I think that a nice logo that fits some name well may be a huge advantage of it.
And vice-versa.
Because it appears that only two variants will go to the second round, there won't be an overhead.
:100537 I have removed ols and created a synonym, so for now on ols will become least-squares automagically.

@mbq: The only problem with that is that we're biased. :)

Shane
(although I agree...)

Not sure if you have access, but I was saddened to see that CS Theory is taking the same "meme" approach: meta.cstheory.stackexchange.com/questions/1/….

@mbq: Did you merge tags first?

:100922 Yup.
:100845 I am not in cs beta :-(
And am I biased? I'll just do everything so CrossValidated could win in non-biased way ;-)

Sorry to go against the flow, but I quite like the "meme" approach. Personally I think that most (all?) statsy names will put people off. For example, crossvalidated.com will put off "traditional" statisticians.

:102508 Could you elaborate about this "meme" approach? I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean.

Shane
You really think that people will be put off by something like "crossvalidated"? I don't doubt that you're right (clearly there's some push-back), but I'm surprised. It's covered in several modern statistics texts.

Shane
Maybe I should post "dataoverflow.com"...

Shane
DataOverflow.com is taken...

mbq
Still, for me, this *overflow seems like we haven't got any good idea for name and made this as a makeshift.

:102796 Nevertheless, OverflownWithData.com and DataOverflown.com are free.
