I built a basic version and then got busy. Want to help? I'll post the package online.

Good idea; I think I can also help.

8:19 AM
@Shane Yes, do you have an svn repo that we could use? @mbq Great

mbq
8:29 AM
R-forge?

9:14 AM
I had set up a room at chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/rooms/96/stats-stackexchange several days ago but it has never been used. Does anyone know how to delete it?

@RobHyndman I thought I have made a deep search for existing Stats rooms; strange.

I have typically used google code in the past, but I'm flexible. The project is currently hosted here: code.google.com/p/overflowr.

Shane
Happy to change the name, etc.

Shane
If you want to stay with this, just send me your email addresses and I'll add you to the project.

Shane
I also use Roxygen with all my packages, so let me know if you have questions about how that works.

Shane
I include the basic command at the top of each source file.

Shane
This currently passes R CMD check with a few warnings (due to undocumented parameters). That's simple to fix, but we will have to pass that before submitting to CRAN.

I was initially trying to model this slightly off of the stackapps.com example: code.google.com/p/theworldsworststackoverflowclone.

mbq
Looks nice, thanks for code; I've send you my mail.

Shane
Great. I just added you, so hack away!

Shane
I included some examples in the "model.R" documention for how some people might use this. It gets tricky to model the relationship between questions and answer as it grows. Do you pull all questions and all answers? Or do you just pull answers to specific questions?

Shane
Ultimately, there is a per-IP address limit on how much you can pull in a day, so we might also want to try to cache some data somewhere.

I'll try to change the topic again, now to the site name issue. @Shane proposed a deadline here
3
Q: Deadline for site name?

ShaneI propose that we create a deadline for the voting on the site name so that we can move onto the logo/look-and-feel question. Does anyone know when this is supposed to be completed? Just to make the voting on this question clearer, let's put our proposed date as a header in the answer.

and it seems that 18 VIII is now winning with 3 votes.
But this is tomorrow, and there is still a tie in a main voting thread.

@Shane Great. I've just downloaded the code.

Shane
Yes, that deadline is unreasonable, not to mention that it was never broadcast or agreed to...

Shane
I do think that some kind of deadline is a good idea...

Shane
@csgillespie Great. Feel free to change as you see fit, because I'm too busy with other packages to focus on that one now.

Shane
We should register a new API key for it (I just stole the one from the sample app).

Shane
2:57 PM
Let me know if you have any thoughts/questions as you go through it.

Shane
@mbq The voting on the site name is very contentious. :)

mbq
Definitely, nevertheless in stagnation for some time.

Shane
Not sure what to do there. I do think that we need to decide in the semi-near future, but I don't know how to drive people to make a decision.

mbq
Maybe we should terminate it soon and make a second round between CrossValidated and StatsOverflow?

Shane
That would certainly focus things.

Shane
3:02 PM
Great. Let's declare a deadline of August 23rd for this round of voting, and then have a shoot-out between any names within 2 votes of each other?

mbq
Sounds reasonable; does anyone complain? ;-)

Shane
Let's leave that question in the air for a few hours. :)

mbq
3:25 PM
I've put it on meta also.

3:45 PM
I like the idea of a second round of voting.
