It's probably that last checkbox I don't have checked.
@Zane The data you have is the result from the query right? Not what is in the table you want to query.
@jcolebrand BLOCKED!
@swasheck not entirely useful for you. Aaron is helping me debug something
@jcolebrand ah
@jcolebrand do ctrl+up to open mission control, at the top should be something like 'Desktop 1' Move your mouse up there and on the right a thumbnail with a '+' should show up. click that to add a new 'space'
16:02
if aliens visit and yahoo is the first source of human wisdom ... we're in trouble
Yes, what DTest said. Once you have a second space you can Ctrl + Right-arrow to get to it. Then you can click on any dock icon and say Options > Assign To > This Desktop (or from any other desktop, assign to > desktop name)
oh snap
I saw what you were talking about just then.
NICE
That's what I've been needing
Woot. Multiple D for me :D
Do you guys use the dashboard for anything?
@DTest I stuck a few things on there but overall not really
@MikaelEriksson yessir
just posted the table structure now.
If need I can add some results as well.
16:11
@DTest yes, I find it the quickest way to get to utilities like Disk Utility, rather than clicking through finder windows...
@DTest oh wait, I mean launchpad for that
@swasheck this gem:
> And here I was, thinking that the most bizarre thing I would ever found on the internet was going to be related to porn. How wrong was I? No cheevos for me on that.
@AaronBertrand ahh, i use spotlight (cmd+space)
@jcolebrand indeed
the whole thread was amazing
@jcolebrand also you can set certain windows to "all desktops" so, for example, you can bring finder with you as you switch through.
@AaronBertrand I saw that
Chrome is what's going to annoy me
16:12
@DTest but then you have to type. Booooo.
I want some tabs on A, some on B
I also find spotlight to be much more efficient for finding what I want
@AaronBertrand haha, I'm used to it...most of the time on terminal anyway.
but then again I do the same thing in Windows, so ...
@jcolebrand hmmm, I haven't tried to do that yet. I thought there might be some drag & drop way to move a specific window to a certain space, but haven't found it yet (or needed it).
if you click the menu bar and do the cntrl+right, it moves it to the space
not menu bar, ...top of the window
click+hold as well
16:15
I have to click and hold and press ctrl-arrow?
That seems like a LOT of effort
if you want to move the window to a different space
@jcolebrand yeah with your third hand. Or your nose.
@AaronBertrand right?
@DTest are you guys trying to teach @jcolebrand how to use a new OS?
right, cause on a normal keyboard, there's not a cntrl on the right side of the board
16:16
At least in Windows Land they made that easier (except there's no extra desktops, so not really, but I could easily envision a shift-win-arrow)
easier: open up mission control and move the window to the new space
@swasheck more like how to be a power user
@swasheck not really sure what we're doing
@Lamak No, he doesn't get it at all. It's 4 lines of code, for God's shake...
@ypercube I updated my answer. If you look closely It's the same. If you can please be kind to point out where is it differs. — Dasun 1 min ago
@MikaelEriksson is there a way to post my rows without it looking hideous?
16:19
@DTest oh yeah, that does work, nice
@jcolebrand doh
shows that I don't have a mac keyboard :)
you can change the shortcut to opt+arrow and it'd work
@Zane post insert statements, not "rows." They're much easier for us to use than tabular data anyway.
16:21
@Zane You can do a query in SSMS with output as text and copy paste that to the question.
Insert statement is better :).
@Zane or create a sql fiddle with the table and some data
Posted rows as text
do people not use KVMs anymore? seems difficult to find one with even DVI technology
@DTest KVM ... isnt that redhat's virtualization tech?
perhaps, but not the KVM i'm thinking of :D keyboard-video-mouse
16:25
@ypercube for christ's sake
@DTest I last used one about a decade ago. I can't imagine needing multiple physical desktops at my desk sharing a single monitor or even a set of monitors.
IT'S NOT THE SAME
@DTest I think they tend to use remote desktop more because of clipboard capabilities
oh wow

Q: mysql big query

Jovo KrnetaI have a complex app that solves problems of multilateral compensation , so i have up to 60 queries run - depending of the level of how deep the queries go for the level of 5 the query is like this : SELECT k.idpred1, k1.idpred1 AS k1idpred1, k2.idpred1 AS k2idpred1, k3.i...

please learn joins
@bluefeet Ow.
16:26
essentially what's going on here is a developer has sprocs that update this table. We then need to find which objects have been updated and add them to groups that are in the same table. It's obnoxious.
@DTest I have a nice Raritan somewhere - but it predates DVI.
@bluefeet that's one of the funniest WHERE that I've ever seen
@AaronBertrand Ah, I have a work laptop that hooks up 2 external monitors, and my personal PC which shares the monitors
What I think I'm going to do is just add a updated flag to the table and set it to true in his update statements and then set them all back to false in once the group update has finished.
@CadeRoux that's true, might have to incorporate that.
16:27
@DTest I've moved to an MBP retina, so actually the 15" screen is much nicer on the eyes than my old decrepit cinema displays.
In this Case I think it may be wise to just drop the question.
...even though they're four times as large, roughly.
interesting
Just saying I would have no interest in pushing the MBP screen to bigger displays. :-)
until you get the retina 30" displays...
16:30
@DTest I'm hoping they come out with 27" retinas with thunderbolt support. Then I'll replace these two. I don't suspect they'll make 30" again, just like they kicked 17" MBPs to the curb.
I'm saving up for an actual mac pro (the next gen whenever that comes out)...so I'll probably ditch the personal PC and bootcamp it and it won't be an issue
And when they come out with a Mac Pro that has Thunderbolt etc., I still wouldn't want to push MBP work to those displays, because the whole point of the MBP is to work away from my desk. :-)
If I'm at my desk I'm using the MBPs very little
Meh, I like being able to toggle between both modes. I just don't want to ever walk away from my work. I hate the logical disconnect of having to sync everything up. So much easier to carry the entire environment with me.
@jcolebrand what "work" actually has to move with you? I do all my Windows / SQL work in Windows VMs. They are stored on external drives. So if I really need to, I can shut down the VM, disconnect the drive and take it with me.
@AaronBertrand for instance, my node development I'm doing on OSX.
16:34
@jcolebrand most other work is web-based, cloud-based, or easily accessible
and all my dev VMs are local VMs
I don't trust the internet here in the South. There's no decent infrastructure.
@jcolebrand like node.js? How much stuff are you storing locally that you could store differently?
@jcolebrand Surely there is in austin
@jcolebrand you don't need reliable Internet. External drives are very portable and don't need Internet at all.
@DTest I don't live in Austin?
16:36
I have a couple of firewire-connected SSDs in external enclosures from macsales.com - they work great.
@AaronBertrand as are on-disk VMs
@AaronBertrand it's the disconnect of having to wait for everything to sync.
@jcolebrand I'd say close enough, but nothing is particularly close to anything else in Texas
It's like if your VMs are always in shut down mode, so you always have to start everything, vs hot-save
but saying no infrastructure in the south is misleading
@DTest I mean, that's like saying Flint, Michigan is close to Chicago.
@DTest I only said I severely distrust it.
16:37
I'm aware...I lived in SA for quite some time
@jcolebrand "I don't have all second!!!!!"
@AaronBertrand I also don't have SSDs, so there's a serious time delay of at least 5-15 seconds
@jcolebrand If you're using SSDs, this really shouldn't be a productivity killer. If you're still using spinny disks, and this is your productivity killer, then FFS, get SSDs.
@AaronBertrand meh, it's more like the internet is my productivity killer.
You sound like the guy that complains about taking the bus to work, but won't buy a fucking car. Pick one man!
16:39
And SSDs are coming mid-March at the latest
@AaronBertrand those damned busses!
@AaronBertrand can't buy a car!
(which we don't have here, to speak of)
unrelated: my wife's Samasung Galaxy S2 swype recognizes "you" -> as "tit" so she always has to correct it. she missed it this morning. can i say that she texted me her tit?
@DTest if you can't buy a car, then stop bitching about the bus. It's what's letting you not buy a car.
@swasheck Go for it, let us know how that works out for you.
16:41
@swasheck does the galaxy support an exceptions list? You should be able to stop that auto-correction from happening. Although if she doesn't know that I'd leave it for the humor.
@MikeFal good point. i love her dearly, but she has no real sense of humor
Anywho, I work off a external spinny disk and starting up VMs is slow, but manageable. I'll probably have to format it to a linux-readable filesystem when I get my new work computer though :/ I am assuming RHEL or whatever they give me won't read macosx-journaled filesystem
@DTest everything's great btrfs
i think today is the day for ugly queries

@Zane you're about to piss off martin.
16:45
Dude doesn't want help, he wants precious help
I'm not sure, I charge extra for precious help
@MikeFal it is ... my precious
also ... Skyfall (the song) is growing on me
Adelle has a wicked awesome voice
@bluefeet it was really ugly
@bluefeet this guy must have a notification system
+1 for the joins and case whenbonCodigo 3 mins ago
@swasheck he is a nice dude (at least his comments are)
16:51
@Lamak absolutely he is. he's just stalking @bluefeet
@swasheck aren't we all ;-)
@Lamak uhhh, no.
@Lamak I figured I would throw a pivot here -- stackoverflow.com/questions/14506206/…
@bluefeet nice
I was tempted to write a PIVOT too, but he didn't specified the RDBMS, so I got scared
@swasheck I think I said too much
well that interview went...badly
but i think he's interviewing for the wrong kind of position
16:56
@rfusca get it out. Now's the time for reflection. What went well, what went wrong?
@rfusca i thought you meant me
@rfusca wait, he didn't cry?
@Lamak lol no
@rfusca why not?
just a sec
well he was interviewing for a database dev position
but he had trouble writing a simple SELECT statement
17:01
@rfusca ouch
@swasheck why is that?
@Zane just kidding. he just keeps asking for clarification
when eventually I kind of walked him through it (just getting to a createdate >= sysdate - 7 ) and tried to see his knowledge of analytics functions, it just kinda fell apart
@rfusca Never feel that you need to drag an interview out to the appointed time if it's clear within the first little bit that they are not a match
seriously how does this get an upvote?
17:02
All I can do is vote to delete
I want that gone.

A: Rewriting query to format sql results differently

WestieIf it's any help at all, I did find this... http://www.artfulsoftware.com/infotree/queries.php#78 May be useful. Kind regards, Westie.

@billinkc ya, I had 45 minutes allotted and spent 25
@rfusca Ouch
I changed the table structure and fixed the problem a separate route and no longer need the query I was looking for.
17:04
I think he's been using reporting tools that just basically point to a table and then generate the sql as needed
@swasheck don't need that anymore I found a better way. That query is no longer something I"m looking for post deleted.
@Zane ah - flag it
I did.
@rfusca a couple of years ago I found myself doing that for schema changes...forced myself to go back to writing the queries so I knew wtf the gui was doing
17:11
@jcolebrand hah
wonder what mysql licensing costs are under on virtualization...
@DTest they don't pay YOU to use their product?
or if you need a real rdbms, postgres'
@swasheck someone pays me!
@DTest the response to this is always the support model
@jcolebrand the whole site puts me into a crazy fit of hysterics
hehe
@rfusca so are you going to braindump what went well and what went wrong and what to change for next time?
I mean, you don't have to do it to us, but we are an efficient sounding board.
And this can only be Aaron right? dbareactions.tumblr.com/post/41222294474/…
@jcolebrand @MikeFal believes this site is Ozar's doing so it could be him too :)
17:23
It is Ozar's doing
I confirmed that last night conversing with a friend of mine who's another MCM and pals with Ozar.
SELECT *
FROM dba.Reactions
WHERE witness = 'BrentOzar.com'
all you gotta do is click "about"
@jcolebrand Right, but while it is his site, I was thinking this was more Peshka's doing.
Oh, probably so
It does seem like a Peshka thing doesn't it?
Yup, but talking with Argenis Fernandez last night, he said Brent's actually the one managing it. Granted, Argenis was supplying him with material....as well as others.
17:27
This one happens to me far to often: dbareactions.tumblr.com/post/41229051900/…
Though it's less a vendor and more just one or two bad presenters in the area.
@BrentO we got a small Q for you on http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/7816195#7816195 #DeviousHandRubbing
co-worker is presenting an online presentation over lunch. The effective title: "Why Windows 8 doesn't suck quite as much as most people think it does."
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14506903/where-is-the-query-plan-from-an-ssrs-report-rendering/14507235#14507235
Am I over complicating this?
Or: "Similar to speed reading: how to memorize all the hotkeys you have to remember now that Windows has completely crippled the UI"
@Zane I don't think so.
17:36
@Zane you should mention that you would check for the spid in a different window. If you run the query against dm_exec_requests using the same spid, you're obviously going to get a different result (e.g. the result will report on the query against sys.dm_exec_requests). :-)
Yay, back in OS X
@jcolebrand Yeah, it’s hidden in the About at the top. :-D It’s me and the other @BrentOzarULTD folks.
23 mins ago, by jcolebrand
SELECT *
FROM dba.Reactions
WHERE witness = 'BrentOzar.com'
@jcolebrand So at this point, we're pretty much quibbling. :)
@MikeFal quibbling? I mean, what's left to discuss ;-)
It's all of them, which even I didn't quite grok from that "SQL"
@jcolebrand Right. So, lest we quibble about quibbling, we all agree and should go drink beer now.
Or in my case, back to fiddling with Server Core
17:49
@MikeFal oh let's.
@jcolebrand nice dude. thanks for throwing us under the bus
no no, bad "in this case"
@swasheck who threw whom? I linked him to the chat
I also think it's cool that BrentO follows me on the T :D
@jcolebrand jealous
I'm pretty sure it's because of that diamond <--------
When I first got it I tweeted him that I was one of the new guys here. So he followed within a few days of that tweet.
I've never met him or any of his team. I figure one day it'll happen. I should look to see when the next time the ULTD team is going to be in DFW, as I'm sure they do some confs out here.
@jcolebrand Or you could just go to the PASS Summit
Then you could meet others, too. Like @sqlkiwi, @AaronBertrand, and.....me?
17:53
@jcolebrand Hahaha, yeah, mostly it’s me and @peschkaj right now.
@MikeFal $$$$$$$$$
When is it?
(and probably worth asking, "where")
October ish
Charlotte, NC. Typically Seattle, but they moved it for this year. Not sure about next year.
What we need is for someone to be all "hey, can the DBA.SE mods get a discount and bring some swag from SE?" (because they might just give me some swag for giving out down there, I would ask)
@MikeFal tell me more about this PASS Summit. i suppose i could read but i'd rather have first-hand experience
Who organizes that that we can put it out there?
It's in Charlotte this year. Naturally we'll be heavily involved since that's our stomping grounds.
17:56
I would need like $3k to set aside at this point to going, but there's that whole alimony thing going on in my life right now
@swasheck Take a conference center. Put ~6000 SQL folks from around the world. Flavor with presentations purely about SQL Server that are not put on by vendors.
It tastes of awesome.
@MikeFal so it's educational and not sales-y?
Now, if strings were pulled and I could attend without paying the door fee (or just a substantial discount) I could make arrangements ...
@swasheck Yes. Though vendors are there and do want to sell you stuff, but not in the sessions.
I would argue that aside from sessions by Paul White, Bob Ward, Dr. DeWitt, etc., there is much more value in the interactions than the sessions. But if you want deep technical info and not marketing-y stuff, yes, it's the place to go.
17:58
@MikeFal Last I heard, the plan is to alternate locations. Seattle, !Seattle Assuming of course Charlotte doesn't flop
@AaronBertrand This is all I would do, is arrange to interact with fellow folks
I'd agree with @AaronBertrand, though there's plenty of good sessions regardless of your level. A lot of people like to do the high level stuff because it's not common, but there's a lot of lower lever stuff that is very useful.
@AaronBertrand interactions meaning informal beer-swilling? or interactions meaning panelists?
@swasheck porque no los dos
The problem with some of the higher level stuff is you typically won't use it. I saw Adam Machanic's session this year, which was awesome and blew my mind, but it didn't give me anything practical I could take and use at my job other than a better understanding of the engine.
17:59
@jcolebrand could be die beiden
@swasheck mostly the former. But there are a lot of events that aren't formal sessions, e.g. a birds-of-a-feather session (over lunch), where experts host tables dedicated to all kinds of topics. Roam about and ask questions at whatever table(s) suit your interests.
@swasheck Interactions are typically beer swilling. LOTS of beer swilling. And karaoke.
@jcolebrand I think you mean "Por qué no los dos?" ;-)
Also, you get to see @billinkc in a kilt.
18:01
@Lamak you may not know this about me, but I'm kind of a gringo
@MikeFal Definitely an opportunity you don't want to pass up
And Buck Woody. In a kilt.
@jcolebrand that explains it, then
Oh, I wear a kilt every year too.
I have a vague memory of @AaronBertrand in a kilt hugging another guy in a kilt
18:04
That was Buck Woody. We go way back.
And our kilts were not touching, contrary to many reports.
Yeah, Thursday is kilt day. It's a "thing".
fascinating. what is this weird, wonderful world into which i'm stepping?
@swasheck If you came to the Denver User group meetings, you'd have a better idea.
Jerk.
@AaronBertrand someone said photoshop?
@swasheck awesome coated awesome with awesome filling
18:06
@MikeFal the whole "night" thing is a bit of an inhibitor
@billinkc deep-fried in bacon-flavored butter?
It's one night. Once a month. For 3 hours, including transit time.
Assuming 31 days in a month, and 8 hours for work and another 8 hours for sleep each day (we're ignoring weekends here), you are then left with 248 hours.
@MikeFal ok ... i'll look into it ... again
You're telling me you can't give up 3 hours out of that?
MATHS!
@MikeFal scoff Maths, you sound so European
@MikeFal but i'm very popular and socially active. i have uh ...
bridge on monday night
18:09
@billinkc It's my Irish blood.
good Point @AaronBertrand I will point that out
@MikeFal Good luck on your leaving cert
Noting wrong with saying "maths" :P
@Phil OTOH ... "maffs" is right out
Let me take a stab?, not familiar with that phrase
0
A: order by DATEDIFF gives Conversion failed error

Tim WileyHmmm. Let me take a stab. I think MS SQL warns against sorting by a column/calculation that isn't directly in return results of your SQL. This is definitely so in Oracle. I'm assumming you can plug in a literal value for your variable and it runs just fine?

18:13
@Lamak Taking a stab = cursory attempt
@AaronBertrand you can have multiple plans per object if I'm not mistaken. That's why I suggested he run the sproc and then get execution plan by SPID
@Lamak i'd call the FBI
@swasheck better safe than sorry
I've noticed reporting running different plans than if I just run the sproc in ssms.
@Zane right, my point is if he runs the procedure in Management Studio, then in the same query window queries against sys.dm_exec_requests, the information he gets back from that query is going to be for the query against sys.dm_exec_requests. So he should be checking that from a different connection.
@Zane yes, that is likely due to parameter sniffing and/or different SET settings.
18:15
@AaronBertrand I got your point I just noticed the answer after mine was looking for query plan by database_id = db_id()
and object_id = object_id('dbo.uspNameOfProc');
Which could give him the wrong plan
listen! do you smell something?
@AaronBertrand I remember you mentioning that when I was having sproc issues. Which is why I always look by SPID.
@swasheck nope
@Zane yeah I +1'd your comment, it's valid
son of a motherless goat. @MikeFal ... third thursdays don't work for me. the first one i could hit would be June
18:25
@Zane though I fail to understand what the OP's actual problem is. Is he complaining that he can't find the plan in sys.dm_exec_cached_plans? Does he expect to run a delete command?
@Zane or I guess he's trying to find the plan_handle? All he says is "what am I missing?" and I honestly have no idea what he's missing...
@swasheck Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaame. You can't reschedule? Or is that your new bridge night?
@MikeFal that's when the Unicorn lovers' club meets
@AaronBertrand I thought Unicorn Lovers Club == SQL User's Group?
@MikeFal no ... it's the night that my wife does some things with this group she's in and i have to babysit ... it is what it is. i could do it but i'd have to bail after an hour to be home by 645
Did anyone in here vtc this as offtopic?
18:32
@MikeFal but it's on my calendar now so we can talk about it at our weekly pow-wow/schedule mindmeld

Q: Query: All employee with sum of salary > 500

Grijesh ChauhanIn my MYSQL Database COMPANY, I have a Table: Worker : mysql> DESC `Worker`; +--------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | SSN | varchar(64) | NO | | NULL ...

OS X people: Who's using Parallels and who is on VMWare Fusion these days?
@Phil VirtualBox for me
but i don't run windows, so I don't know how that would work...used to use parallels for that
I use Virtualbox on Windows. Been pretty happy with it.
vagrant only works with virtualbox (atm) so that's why...
18:35
I never want to touch Windows again :P OS X for desktop stuff, Linux/Solaris/AIX for server stuff
\o/
@Phil Parallels here
@Phil c'mon, where's your sense of adventure? ... GNU Hurd? BSD? Haiku?
Haha
Plan 9
NetBSD
Sod it, `LOAD "C64SERVER",8,1`
`PRESS PLAY ON TAPE`

Ok, this is like the third answer on a row for me that doesn't work as op intended, and I don't understand why
0
A: Select query with multiple joins when data may not be present in one of the tables

LamakIf the columns SerialNo and JobNo are only in the TestResults table, the way you are doing the filters basically converts your LEFT JOIN into an INNER JOIN. You need to test for NULLs: SELECT TestType, TestName, LowerLimits, UpperLimits, ResultRecorded FROM CreateScriptTable INNER JOIN TestOp...

18:37
@Phil and we can't forget this beaut
It has been a rough week at work, though. I may be tired
@Phil Parallels here. Used Fusion for a long time. Find Parallels more stable these days (used to find the opposite)
@DTest that question you're answering - he wants a rolling SUM()
@Phil I would not trust the Mac version VirtualBox for Windows VMs. I liked the higher RAM support at the time (Fusion & Parallels used to be limited to 8GB), but had constant crashing and gave up after several weeks of head-desk thumping.
@AaronBertrand @billinkc cheers, got licenses for both so will go for parallels this time (well, a Parallels 7 license so i'll have to pay to upgrade i guess)
18:40
I'm sure VirtualBox works fine on Windows, but like Microsoft treats Office, that is not the platform Oracle focuses on
@AaronBertrand going back to your co-worker's lunch presentation - the only reason i'd go (back) to 8 would be the built-in Hyper-V. then i wouldnt have to license VMWare Workstation.
Just checked my parallels account. I've paid for 3 upgrades so far. Pretty sure they should give me a free 7->8 upgrade! Thieving bastards
@Phil i must not understand...does my last update not give him a running total?
@DTest Oh, didn't see you'd updated. had it open for ages :)
@Phil Don't have my MBP with me, but I think I'm still on 7. Runs Win 8 and everything older fine for me
18:46
@swasheck I'll check out what they do with 9. I run Windows as a guest, never as a host.
@Phil ahh
@AaronBertrand completely and totally fair
Cheese on a cracker!

Q: IsNumeric Unable to Parse Query

AndrewI have the query trying to count the emp start dates, and i keep getting an Unable to Parse query error specific to an ) COUNT([EMP_TNG_STT_DT])*CASE WHEN IsNumeric([LENGTH]) =1 THEN [LENGTH] ELSE 0 END) AS Total_Hours

@AaronBertrand that dude's like a whack-a-mole
@AaronBertrand groovy
Maybe a bit harsh but it's getting ridiculous.
SHOW THE WHOLE QUERY PLEASE. Also maybe if you show the table schema and the results you're trying to get, someone will write you an entire, working query instead of submitting 15 different questions involving invalid syntax and mismatched parentheses. — Aaron Bertrand 3 mins ago
This is basic shit that anyone capable of turning on a computer should be able to troubleshoot their way through.

@AaronBertrand he's trying to clear out a plan that is running in a report from a sproc I think.
@AaronBertrand it's distinctly possible that I'm wrong on that.
@AaronBertrand OP also seems to be a bit of a prick. See his response to the first guys comment.

We just installed more RAM in this server for a total of 240GB RAM. SQL Server services are the only re...

@Phil I agree. Though they defend themselves telling "How can I know if its not a view?!!"
Sigh
SELECT * FROM T_tblMOANtable WHERE moaner = 'phil';

@AaronBertrand is it possible that he is running so much in ram that it's attempting to dump to much information into Temp db to perform some of it's operations?
It is just me or is this guy out of luck? Has no unique identifier, records can be added or deleted at any moment and he needs to report on it.

Q: Process SQL Table with no Unique Column

RahmatizadehWe have a table which keeps the log of internet usage inside our company. this table is filled by a software bought by us and we cannot make any changes to its table. This table does not have a unique key or index (to make the data writing faster as its developers say) I need to read the data in...

Should I start creating synonyms for tables that reside in other databases so I can do SELECT * FROM DATABASE_LINK_IN_DB_PHILDB1_EMPLOYEE WHERE PHIL="ANGRY" ?!
@bluefeet he could ETL the data into a table that does have integrity column of some sort??
Dropping into a different table won't work as you would almost certainly have dupes if nothing in the table is unique and objects are deleted.

@jcolebrand ya, sorry, we filled out our forms and then had a bit of brain dump
@Phil i was just doing a insert on a remote table and was absolutely shocked at how fast it was
@rfusca no worries
Just pointing out that it's good to do so right after
@jcolebrand ya, absolutely
@rfusca Disk is the bottleneck if you have a good network :)
Obviously if the query is mental and needs to do work on both sides of the database link, it's not so trivial (and can be an utter nightmare). The /*+DRIVING_SITE()*/ hint can be useful
Ugh

@Zane certainly possible, sure, though I suspect he's got some NUMA imbalance as well. Hard to tell what the primary culprit is, really...
@AaronBertrand without being there. I feel I could fix more peoples problems if I could just take control of their body for a moment.
