A: June 2023 Data Dump is missing

PhilippeMuch has been written lately of the company’s decision to pause the distribution of the anonymized data dump that has historically been posted. Our intention was never to stop posting the data dump, only to begin to collect more information on how it was being used and by whom - especially in lig...

Official answer
Not to nitpick, but copying and pasting an identical answer across multiple questions goes against one of the tenets of Stack as a whole. The disappointment I'm feeling as a former employee grows every day. Even more so as someone who worked for years on the data dumps. — Taryn 6 hours ago
and ouch 🔥🔥🔥
While I'm happy that you've decided to re-enable the data dump, your ongoing dishonesty and gaslighting of the community you purport to preside over continues to be galling. Looking only at official statements, your CTO, Jody Bailey, posted an answer stating unambiguously that "Stack Overflow senior leadership…decided to stop the dump". Merits of that decision aside, it directly conflicts with your statement here that "Our intention was never to stop posting the data dump". Maybe you meant to add more qualifiers to that statement to avoid it being a lie? — Cody Gray - on strike 5 hours ago

I have confirmation via email from Prashanth that this is, indeed, the new official policy. I'm glad to see it. Creative Commons is part of our contract with the community, and it should never be broken -- however, CC does need to address the AI issue in an updated license, in my personal opinion. @wizzwizz4 I also edited the other post to cross link to this one. — Jeff Atwood 5 hours ago
I think we're at the stage now where we can't believe things the company says, we have to wait to see the actions

morning
Observing this from afar,
This seems to be a big jar,
Full of uncertainties and mismanagement,
Of dishonesty and entanglement,
Me thinks this is a sinking star.
Morning

@ErikDarling Improvements are bad? or these aren't the result of improvements?
@SeanGallardy i'm not sure that unreliable behavior is an improvement
Ahhh ok
You're up early

Oh no, what will we do
17:03
hello friends
i want to share something with you
today i had a client tell me that they're using a temp table
and the code looked something like this
WITH
    #cte AS
(
    SELECT
        d.*
    FROM sys.databases AS d
)
SELECT
    *
FROM #cte;
wrong picture
Today I found out Snowflake doesn't have an OUTER APPLY. It has a LATERAL join that always acts as a CROSS APPLY, even if you specify LEFT OUTER.
that's cute
@ErikDarling interesting
@ErikDarling Technically true? Common Table Expressions are rather temporary.
17:22
😒
it's not surprising though

@ErikDarling Oof.
That's painful.
@Zikato did anyone reach out to you? I had a conversation with the TA.
18:52
Territorial Army?
Teaching Assistant?
Tubular Aardvark?
@ErikDarling I hope you put a hash in front of their invoice number
The pain is only temporary
The word octothorpe doesn't get used enough these days.
@SeanGallardy Not yet. Have you olved it?
19:08
@PaulWhite-OnStrike it mek me wep fren
19:21
Feels good to discover something less useful than a table variable though eh
Maybe we should start calling that construction a temporary statement-scoped table variable
Or an octothought
@Zikato I don't have any access to data, I'm not in support anymore, so nope lol
@PaulWhite-OnStrike this!
19:45
@PaulWhite-OnStrike i don't think that thinking entered the picture there
20:29
@JoshDarnell Too dull of a word, it's not Sharp enough. I personally prefer Hashtag.
20:40
Sharp, pounding hashtag? Ask your doctor if new Octothorpe Pro is right 4 u
@J.D. I prefer pound because that's what it was called forever in non-UK places and also because it makes the tagging hilarious when read 😂
Royale with cheese
bonus star
21:20
@SeanGallardy heh I was kidding about hashtag. I probably call it pound too, I can't remember anymore lol.
21:35
@e core do me a favour and select a few rows from a heap table with no indexes using a row lock hint under repeatable read isolation
Chatgpt did it for you dbfiddle.uk/LLcSx8jp
22:14
Not interested in misinformation tyvm
22:25
@PaulWhite-OnStrike is this the demo from your lock escalation series?
@ErikDarling No, I just watched one of your videos saying row locks need an index. This is an experiment you could run. Not near a computer rn
Avoid lock escalation
Key range locks (serializable isolation) do require an index
But that's a different thing
I didn't know delayed start meant two minutes btw
22:53
Here we are, all learning something
I will check on that when I’m back at a computer, but I don’t run into a lot of people who are selecting from heaps under RR.
I guess my point was you’re more likely to get what you expect from the hint when there’s an index
Which is also a Paramore song I think
@ErikDarling Arguably best kind of cake
23:24
Steak cake
23:35
I save a lot of time every day not looking at main
You're not wrong
Also what kind of odd query question is this, "Think about it, what is a query that only passes rows and doesn't have columns"?
Also @Forrest I see you're making waves again
re: abominable rebuild
23:59
@SeanGallardy where did this come from hahahaha
