@SeanGallardy It seems that 2022 linked server update failure is related to Dynamic Data Masking
At least, that's the only way I have been able to reproduce it
It's rather nasty in that DDM need not be used on the source table (any use in the database will do) and the error persists even if I stop using DDM anywhere in the database.

@PaulWhite I've been re-reading this blog post: sql.kiwi/2012/08/temporary-object-caching-explained.html - is there a way to map existing (already renamed) temp tables to plans in cache?

@Zikato No, I don't think so. The relationship would be from cached temp table to execution context. I really don't think that level of detail is exposed anywhere.

Thank you

@PaulWhite how did you find that problem? By tracing the code in your debugger?

@HannahVernon Not this time. I took a guess at what the cause might be from the error message and knowing what was new or changed in 2022. That allowed me to repro, which is always half the battle with questions like this.
The OP tried to throw me off by saying they don't use making when I asked but I saw through that obvious tactic

@PaulWhite Thanks! The funny thing is, I looked at that post when I was trying to find it, but I moved on because I thought the use of WRITE was more prominent. But it's really snuck in there.

@ErikDarling In a way, yes. When I searched for the error message, a blog post of yours was one of the two results
@JoshDarnell Yeah I vaguely remember you saying you were struck by it at the time. It stuck with me because the use of WRITE was very much a gimmick in the post tbh
Seems like Erik has mastered SEO
