@ErikDarling Mm fair point. But ok.
@ErikDarling In all seriousness, what if there is no table variable used, but it's still multi-statement?
Scratch that, I'm still an idiot... J.D. was a mistake. 😐

@SeanGallardy I have moved

I raised rabbits before, I also ate them
Reminds me of a bit of irony IRL. One time I was in Lancaster, PA and saw a sign for dwarf bunnies for sale. (Small fluffy bunnies heh.) Pulled onto the farm, and an actual dwarf person came out holding the dwarf bunnies. Sadly he wasn't fluffy himself.
same with cows, pigs, and chickens
@J.D. You were so close to where I lived and you didn't stop and say hi

lol for reals? I still have a house near there actually, East Earl to be precise. Around the corner of Shady Maple.

Yeah I used to live up in PA
I grew up east of there in West Chester
Back when there were dairy farms and not subdivisions
Cool cool cool.
Lot of buffets around that area. Never saw bunny on the menu though.
I grew west of you all, around Johnstown, then moved to Willow Grove
@J.D. They've learned not to comment-answer the hard way
15:21
Hah, I don't think the Amish have computers so that's probably more so why they're not up in here making a muck of comments.
Brother Josiah is not amused. He told me that via letter written by candlelight.
Verbatim: "You English may think us simple because we don't use the Devil's box, but there's nothing simple about living a good life free from the corruption of technology."
Very wise
Actually, I don't think the Amish ever have to deal with MongoDB, and that's a attractive aspect of the community.

@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells You could be making up that name and honestly I wouldn't know
15:39
Well, it has been observed that now we're out of the EU, we are actually free to re-instate the death penalty for treason.
I'm pretty sure folks would pay good money to see Jacob Rees-Mogg hung, drawn and quartered.
@PaulWhite No, we've been laughing since the late 1700's :D
You think the world's laughing at the UK... look at us

@ErikDarling did you remember?

@PaulWhite yeah nah might think about it over a drink

@SeanGallardy Add the correct package source and keep rebuilding until it works
Heap chat today:
@Zikato I installed the package, and following the MS Docs I should be able to add the namespace. I try to do that and it doesnt' see it, but the package shows up in the solution explorer.
A chairde - Morning all!
@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells Seriously - Rees-Mogg? As if Britain isn't enough of a laughing stock already? I see that Johson is not the bookies 2nd favourite - and Rees-Mogg is supporting Johnson - one blind buffoon following another... I'd put serious money on Sunak right now!

@Zikato The way British politics have been going, you'd be a serious candidate for special campaign manager! :-)
Or should that be campaign manager for candidates with special needs?
@SeanGallardy If you see it in the packages list in the solution explorer, then the types in the package should be available to you.

@JoshDarnell So clearly I'm an idiot, but that being said it doesn't work
18:41
@SeanGallardy Well shucks :( You're getting an error that the namespace isn't found?
invoices are gonna be FLYING today
I start typing in the namespace and it just doesn't' exist, won't show up in intellisense and when I type it out, complains that it doesn't exist.
do any namespaces work?
Just your mom's
but yes, I can use all the other ones
just nothing nuget wise
i'd burn the whole thing down
18:47
I do like fire...
@SeanGallardy Are you sure you have the namespace / type name spelled right?
Probably putting spare apostrophes in
'postr'ph's
18:59
nuget: package not found
Maybe USPS is delivering it
@SeanGallardy if you need help being more of an idiot, I've been pretty good at it this week.
"this week"
Are you encroaching on my market monopoly?
I've been in the game for a while.
19:02
I'm in the professional leagues
get on my level of idiocy
@ErikDarling Did you ever get help with your delivery?
@SeanGallardy A NuGet package can have multiple assemblies with different namespaces in it. It's convention to have the package name match the namespace, but it's not required. Do you know the class name that you need out of that package? If so, you could type it into the program, and then see if Visual Studio suggests adding a using statement.
chuffed.gif
no, how do I find that out
You don't know the name of any class in that package?
Mystery package
@PaulWhite vaguely
anyway it's very boring
like talking about weather and the past
take a picture, etc.
did any gin ever show up to you? those cretins accepted an order and then went silent.
also they only allow for one bottle per order
19:16
Not yet
upsetting
But it's early Saturday morning so who knows
how will you cope with this tumult in the uk without gin
It's a very worrying situation
But I'll probably be ok until lunchtime
@SeanGallardy Whatever has prompted you to use that package probably included how to use some class in there to do something, right? Like documentation, a code sample, etc.
19:18
@JoshDarnell Ha! nope.
...
@PaulWhite are you sure?
@SeanGallardy You could point something like dotPeek at whatever assembly is in that package - it'll decompile the DLL and you can see the types / namespaces defined inside.
i read an article recently about how churchill conducted his days
@JoshDarnell I just chatted with the author, he gave me a sample. I used his using directives and I get this.
19:20
ikea code
So the nuget is installed but the authors' example code doesn't work
something is wrong
I blame nuget
junk
Have you tried adding a using or assembly reference
don't have these problems with ssms
@ErikDarling Try creating an add-in
Apparently it requires .net 6
19:22
seems perilous
Too much COMplaining about addins
i recently worked with a developer who had so many ssms add-ins that typing was impossible
you'd get like 4 completion dialogs and a bunch of others showing object definitions etc
People are strange
@ErikDarling Your brain does the translating. I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead.
if this is a joke i don't get it and i don't want to get it
19:25
Matrix
Bingo
i liked the book better
I like tables better
@SeanGallardy Oh so that was the problem?
@JoshDarnell no idea
It's still not working
19:27
We need a standard .net
A unifying one
Sean is working on the mystery project I wanted to try it out, but there are plenty of debugger NuGets
Yeah, I'm trying to use the "don't have to know about COM" wrapper around enghost so I don't have to write interfaces in C++ for IDebugClient 1-8
this is the opposite of consulting
Not even hyperbole.
Is this how you people live
19:30
Dependency hell is a colloquial term for the frustration of some software users who have installed software packages which have dependencies on specific versions of other software packages.The dependency issue arises when several packages have dependencies on the same shared packages or libraries, but they depend on different and incompatible versions of the shared packages. If the shared package or library can only be installed in a single version, the user may need to address the problem by obtaining newer or older versions of the dependent packages. This, in turn, may break other dependencies...
use nuget they said, it's easy they said, it's the best they said
@ErikDarling invoices are supposed to be FLYING today
@SeanGallardy Don't NuGet it?
All air traffic is cancelled for today
@Zikato So it depends then
19:32
let me search the transcript
There will be none of that going on here
We do not consult the documentation, nor do we search the transcript. This is the way.
To dependency hell
Just run apt-get until it says there's nothing left to do, right?
19:36
Seems like Sean might need a New Get
PSS Diag might fix it
ted nuget
PSS diag wouldn't have these problems, just sayin'
Can I offer you a nugát instead?
Slovo nugát (nougat) pocház z okcitánského pan nogat (výslovnost: [ˈpa nuˈɣat]) (ořechový chléb/chléb s ořechy). P...
@SeanGallardy If you want to jump on a Teams call and look at it let me know. It's got to be something simple I'd think, and we're just missing it. Like the package is installed in a different project than where you're trying to use it.
@JoshDarnell you said the T word
19:42
Did anybody ever want to jump on a T call
First time for everything I guess
So funny watching Sean get support
if there's an invoice involved, sure
@PaulWhite I once worked on a database from dependency hell. Two-way foreign keys. A user who's default schema was owned by him. Circular linked servers
Josh should have outsourced it
It's all I use, always with a screen share back and forth. It would be really great if I could share my right screen and they could share one of their screens on my left
