14:00
among us
@Zikato I mean... it's Erik... so like.. of course.
I don't want any sus prises
@ErikDarling Well, db<>fiddle isn't SSMS
you're not ssms
no u
goodness only knows which driver Jack's using
something open source no doubt
@Zikato When you say ignored, do you mean not stored? Or just compares equal?
14:09
> In our case, it messed us up because SSDT is whitespace sensitive and was trying to find a column with that name, including the space at the end. Since one was not found, it was throwing a build exception.
But then after testing, the code ran fine, only to realize this behavior.
So in order to get a successful build, the space needs to be removed, even though the code itself is valid and working.
Intellisense is not a fan either.
Isn't this just tools not replicating the ANSI trim behaviour for strings?
But really if you're putting trailing spaces on your object names...
Amateur hour
14:33
I'm not advocating it. I just thought it was interesting
What's the status of SSDT these days?
Are Microsoft still (pretending to) develop it?
I don't know much about the tools side
...
Meanwhile, in low-key news of only minor significance, it seems Russia is going to announce tonight it will annex four regions of Ukraine, and change the status of the Special Military Operation, potentially to an Anti-Terrorism Operation, which would allow at least partial mobilization of reserves, and some moves to a wartime economy.
14:55
@PaulWhite You mean... azure synapse :(
the box version isn't getting any love, as per usual
@SeanGallardy-MostlyRetired Really? I find it hard to keep up tbh.
Partly due to low interest, it must be said
Yeah it's quite sad
I have 0 interest in SSDT as well
or SSIS
or really any of the other things
My impression was SSDT is much better than ADS
could be, never touch the stuff
In positive news, I tried some new foods and I didn't die... so that's a win
@SeanGallardy-MostlyRetired Not just a different type of beef?
14:59
SSDT is based on a very old version of SQL Compare (Redgate). It didn't get any love for several years. They are now porting it into ADS, and it's called a "database project".

@PaulWhite Beef was still involved, let's not get too crazy. I used eggs to make meatballs, wrapped in bacon. Used rice flour instead of wheat. I was able to eat them with the egg in it so that's great news, I can eat high temperature baked eggs now!
@Zikato No way?! I thought SSDT was just another thing built on VS shell
Next to try is medium cooked eggs, such as pancakes and see if I end up in the hospital
@SeanGallardy-MostlyRetired Best of luck, sir.
@PaulWhite I got it confirmed by both Redgate and MS people at sqlbits
15:00
@Zikato Far out.
Mind blown etc.
MS is looking to essentially push all that stuff on 3rd parties these days
Unless it's a migration path to azure
Then $$$ will be invested
yesterday, by Zikato
hmm, Alan Yu has left Microsoft
OMG I can't believe I missed that opportunity
I'm pretty bored making a crappy powerpoint presentation, so it's inevitable that I'll get distracted easily
Do you and Erik consider Port to be a wine?
15:05
I do
Love a good Port
Excellent, it's become my new favorite thing
You were bound to be right about something eventually
I get the diabetes and the alcohol at the same time
2
Only took me 30+ years, but I finally made it!
Collect 'em all etc.
@ErikDarling How do you feel about Port?
@PaulWhite the wine?
15:10
Yes
@SeanGallardy-MostlyRetired Confirmed then. Port is a wine.
@Zikato It's been called database project for a long time in Visual Studio :)
@JoshDarnell Did you know it was based on RG SQLCompare?
@PaulWhite I did not before Zikato did the big reveal just now.
Mind also blown.
Glad it's not just me
Chat confirmed, I'm a real boy now.
15:17
port is not generally my favorite stuff in the world because it's too sweet
@SeanGallardy-MostlyRetired visitgreece.gr/experiences/gastronomy/greek-wines/… for when you visit Greece
@ypercubeᵀᴹ Muscat grapes are delicious; I've had some of that wine before and it's definitely sweet. Hopefully one day I make it there, especially that island :)

2 hours later…
17:13
@JoshDarnell I know, but you won't find it as SSDT in the ADS
in unrelated news - today's meme went kind of viral. It's my most liked Tweet of all time.
a DISTINCT achievement
i think i missed it
17:28
good job not responding to any of the replies
they're terrible
sometimes to be helpful, you have to say nothing at all
this was asked in Slack today as well (same user)

I have tried but was not working can somebody help. Sp added below CREATE Procedure spDeleteRows /* Recursive row delete procedure. It deletes all r...

@ErikDarling is that why it was so popular
I can't compete with the Not Pinterested search engine. That was genius
18:00
@PaulWhite ouch dude
SEO etc.
18:31
@Zikato fascinating if true
@Zikato 😂 thanks i hate it
19:11
bit scary
19:46
@PaulWhite So have you finished mucking around with that post? Should I roll it back (forward?) again?

Who uses chat at such an hour anyway.

@ErikDarling only if you're a panther
Bloody mobile
@Charlieface it's your post, do what you like with it. The edit you objected to has been removed. Continue as if it hadn't happened. Don't know how to communicate this point more clearly
I'm actually curious to see if chat does become read-only during this work. Doesn't often happen that way
I suppose they'd know
@PaulWhite I do work 60% of the time
> "Important: Cumulative Update 31 is the last cumulative update for Microsoft SQL Server 2017. SQL Server 2017 is transitioned to extended support after October 11, 2022." 😥
Five years gone just like that
@ErikDarling I regret searching for that reference
