Well Max, if I had to guess, congrats! :D
For everyone else, go vote

2:04 AM
The nice thing about having three candidates is you can vote for them all

Good morning all - Dia dhaoibh go léir!
I voted too!
Got a quick quick question. Can anyone recommend a USB Bluetooth dongle for both Wndows and LInux? Last time I buy a PC without Bluetooth!

6:39 AM
@Vérace Sorry. I only use the Logitech Unify Dongle for mice and men keyboards

@Johnakahot2use Does that work with Linux?

It does on my Fedora, Ubuntu, Cent OS and Debian. I couldn't vouch for any of the others.
And I paired them in Windows beforehand.
Possibly relevant -------^

Morning, me too.

Q: Navision, Service Ledger Entry Entry Type meaning

Error 1004Using management studio i m searching Navision Service Ledger Entry table. I m trying to understand what Entry Type column means. I manage to find that this column represent Usage, Sale, Consume or Contract. The problem is that in the table i get the values of 0,1 etc and i can not map which numb...

I'm not sure what to do with that one
I'm no fan of answering it, even though I probably could

Does questions about Navision schema (or other ERP databases) fits on DBA.SE?

no
not imo

I suppose there is a Navision forum elsewhere

8:17 AM
We didn't get I Voted stickers this time around due to COVID restrictions

Around what time can we expect the exit polls?

Good question. No idea
You could make some up
I think that's what mostly happens anyway

@jcolebrand it's way too early to call lol.

11:31 AM
Does an elected moderator have to formally accept their election or does this happen automatically? I couldn't find any documentation on that piece of information.

1 hour later…
12:55 PM
@Johnakahot2use you have to sign the moderator agreement, then they add the diamond status to your account. It's not fully aujtomated.
the results from the last election were just a small landslide:
 R|Paul White     |Kin Shah       |Max Vernon     |Exhausted      |Surplus        |Threshold
==================================================================================================
 1|     325.000000|      36.000000|      52.000000|       0.000000|     118.499999|     206.500001
  |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  | Count of first choices. Candidate Paul White has reached the threshold and is elected.
There were 419 eligible voters.

looks like it's your turn this time round.
:-D

so far there has been around 304 votes cast.
@Johnakahot2use hey I wouldn't call it.
you're a strong candidate too, John!
and Randi is awesome, too.
(the tally of votes cast can be found via manually inspecting the recently awarded "Constituent" badges)

@MaxVernon I mean, it's not like we have ANY idea what the votes are. I was just trying to be funny.

1:10 PM
I'm wondering if I slipped through a wormhole from a dimension where Nelson Mandela died in prison, I grew up reading the Berenstein Bears, and Max was already a moderator because seriously, what the hell

for the record, @/room: Mods can't see votes. We can't see vote counts (except as Max points out you can look at constituents, which I didn't think about as a proxy for who-has-voted, we should likely talk to the CMs about that) and even if we could, I wouldn't care to look cos it's much more fun to speculate.

@jcolebrand yah I know :-)

I'm just with John on this one. Seems like Max is a good candidate to win
:D
@PaulWhite Wait, really? We got some here in Dallas. Don't tell me you can do something so silly as to be able to vote by mail or something

It's envigorating :-)

We got stickers with our absentee ballots in NC

1:14 PM
@jcolebrand watching the list of voters via that badge is fun. Not that it means anything, but you can see who just voted. It's probably not something SO wants visible though.

@MaxVernon You have prompted me to do a thing tho
so shame on you

Q: Hide new Constituent badges on the all-badges page for current election until after the election (show to the user tho)

jcolebrandOne of the reason that some places in the not-StackOverflow-universe don't share that or when someone voted is to help prevent voter intimidation. On StackOverflow it's probably not as big of a deal because of the sheer volume of the site, but on smaller sites it can leak information that can lea...

feel free to downvote me
idc, rep is free

haha
unicorn points
The thing is: I don't really care who wins. We're all valid candidates and the community will make their choice.
"Choose your pick" as my Dad used to say.

aye, and all of ye are good calls

hahah

Padawan young, you are. Patience have you must. The future anticipate you must.

hot2yoda?

Only a bool deals in absolutes.
5

@MikeTheLiar I first read that as "tool"

1:32 PM
@MikeTheLiar I introduce to you the tri-state boolean. Which is sadly a real thing.

bool? "Oh no, I couldn't, I'm positively stuffed with data types"
That's a joke that probably doesn't have much of an audience here

@jcolebrand 1, 0, NULL
I'm enjoying one here at work. Yuck!

A ternary computer (also called trinary computer) is a computer that uses ternary logic (three possible values) instead of the more popular binary system ("Base 2") in its calculations. == Types of states == Ternary computing deals with three discrete states, but the ternary digits themselves can be defined in different ways: Unbalanced Trinary – {0,1,2} Fractional Unbalanced Trinary – {0,1/2,1} Balanced Trinary – {−1,0,1} Unknown-State Logic – {F,?,T} Trinary Coded Binary – {T,F,T} == History == One early calculating machine, built entirely from wood by Thomas Fowler in 1840, operated ...

1:51 PM
@jcolebrand You could still argue a tri-state boolean deals in absolutes too. Something is either absolutely true or absolutely false, or absolutely unknown.

@AndriyM not when the answer to everything is 42

@MaxVernon Would that be considered a fourth state, perhaps?
Although I think I know the answer

@AndriyM the 42nd state lol

You forgot about the most important logical state of all: FileNotFound

lol that's so good

@MikeTheLiar That's so FileNotFound!

2:58 PM
@AndriyM Not if it's voltage scales tho. because 0.7 or 0.3 both != 1/0
Now, if you're doing 1/0/-1 then sure
@MaxVernon So ... Washington?

3:44 PM
This is how we build our houses in TX, obviously

@jcolebrand lol

@Johnakahot2use "I only use the Logitech Unify Dongle" - could you give me an exact SKU/part reference please? There are a few items returned when I search on Amazon - search term used "Logitech Unify Dongle bluetooth" - none of the 3 items that come up for me (no. 1 Avantree, nos 2&3 Logitech) have the word Linux on their page. I think I need more detail! Thanks!

@Vérace Unify is a little dongle that comes with some (the last) Logitech products. You can use one dongle to link all your Logitech products, mouse, keyboard, touchpad. If some of them becomes damaged, you can replace it and continue using the same dongle.

6:14 PM
@McNets I'm just walking into this conversation and I have to say: I have no idea what thing to purchase based on that last link

6:25 PM
This would be the thing to buy if you have lost a Logitech Unifying dongle, or if your existing one is broken. They are compatible with all "Logitech Unifying" compatible devices. logitech.com/en-us/product/unifying-receiver-usb?crid=7

@MaxVernon "USB UNIFYING RECEIVER USB receiver to be used with a Unifying mouse or keyboard." - it says nothing about bluetooth! I want to be able to listen to my lectures on my bluetooth sports earphones while wandering round the kitchen preparing food!

@Vérace oh lol bluetooth

@McNets "mouse-and-keyboard" - nothing about bluetooth headphones?

@Vérace for that you just need any old bluetooth receiver. The Logitech Unifying Remote is for non-bluetooth devices.

Yip - it's what I thought - I know it's only a few dollars (have a friend in the States who can send me stuff at Yankee-doodle prices! Yaay!), but I hate throwing away money! I'll get a Linux compatible bluetooth yokie! There are a few out there!

6:36 PM
@Vérace you can, if you have Logitech headphones 🤷‍♂️

@McNets (Earphones): I was recently given a 32€ set and purchased another for €29 - I'm not about to go and buy Logitech kit (which is quite good normally - I have a USB keyboard from them), but thanks for the suggestion! :-)

This is windows/linux/headset compatible

2 hours later…
8:23 PM
@McNets - I think that I was looking at that earlier - I've placed my order with my pal, gràcies amic meu! :-)

8:41 PM
@Vérace un plaer!

9:00 PM
@McNets - In Catalan, does the pronoun always come after the noun? Amic meu vs. Mi amigo in Spanish? In French also, it's Mon ami, Portuguese Meu amigo. Just curious!

@Vérace usually it does. this is my friend, a friend of mine, are both correct?
how is it going my friend? -> Com va, amic meu?

2 hours later…
11:07 PM
@jcolebrand Yes really. The elections were run as if we were still under level 2 restrictions, though the whole country is unrestricted. Postal voting is possible in special circumstances, but you have to apply. It's pretty rare - about 5000 people voted by post this election. There are a bunch of special arrangements e.g. for kiwis living abroad who may be able to vote online etc.
> Voter turnout for the 2020 General Election is estimated to be 82.5% of those enrolled as at 6pm Friday 16 October.
