Which book do you recommend between David Maier’s Theory of Relational Databases and Edgar Codd’s The Relational Model for Database Management: Version 2?

Joe Celko said in his Amazon review of Christopher Date’s Database Design and Relational Theory: “the best mathematical book on RDBMS is still Theory of Relational Databases by David Maier”.

@Maggyero I guess that depends on the purpose for which you're going to use them, and your non-functional requirements. E.g. if price is a factor, the choice is clear.

@mustaccio Price is not a factor. The purpose is to learn the relational model from the best source.
