bwahahha now Erwin is self-answering
Looking forward to that
whatever he's about to write, if the answer is "yes" it's going to be a good read and a unique contribution dba.stackexchange.com/q/212195/2639

Does adding "cheers" to the end of a comment make it sound less unwelcoming?
Like here, for instance:
Maybe you didn't notice this at the time you posted your answer but using Insert has already been suggested by Torbins. There's absolutely no need to post an answer offering the same solution, unless you'd like to offer a valuable insight, perhaps, but even then you could just suggest an edit to the existing answer if your insight doesn't really change it fundamentally (which yours doesn't, as it happens), cheers. — Andriy M 1 min ago

I can't help but think their architecture is completely wrong
Bare metal, too. Someone has more money than sense

4:48 PM
Probably needs more slaves. Slaves are good for productivity, and when they're not people it's ethical. The more slaves the better.
max_ram/(process_size + 64k) = slaves.

Must be a £500k/year spend, minimum (no idea how much a 32Gb RAM bare metal server costs to rent/run per month)

Certainly no where 500k a year.

@Philᵀᴹ What they're saving in Oracle license fees they're paying for in hardware.

oh shit each slave is 32gb
bwahahh wtf, he's bull shitting

5:09 PM
Indeed. Mega money
Digital Ocean are $160/mo for a 32Gb box. 160*12*300 = $576000

@Philᵀᴹ am I the only one who thinks that is unclear?
I mean. What query?

7:49 PM
What a stupid feature.
I wonder how DB2, and Oracle both got stuck with that and what's the history there.
That's actually a worse idea than the DSL for * that I've seen people throw around, which at least makes sense.
SELECT glob("foo*") FROM tbl;
Ubuntu 18.04 only has MariaDB 10.1-series
ouch

8:18 PM
They're useful for application upgrades and table redefinitions

8:30 PM
Only if you rely on SELECT * or implicit column ordering in INSERT both of which are a bad idea.
(which I think I made clear?)

Lava lava sighting for @ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells
