Q: Anonymize SQL Code

MagierOnce a user of DatabaseAdministrators told me a webservice or something similar that can help to make SQL Code obfuscated so that meaningful/distinctive fields / column names / variables are anonymized and won't allow any conclusions to companies or products. I need this to post code into questio...

No, not really. Performance will be identical, both in SQL Server and MySQL. Why should it be any different? Is there any evidence to support this claim? — ypercubeᵀᴹ 41 secs ago
pfft, who needs evidence?
@ypercubeᵀᴹ unless the sql server optimizer slips in a cartesian intermediate
@swasheck Are you serious this time?
sincere question
@TomV i've only heard of it happening and have never witnessed it.
I'm asking because I have a déjà vu of an answer I posted to the same question for SQL Server
16:43
iirc i read somewhere that sometimes star syntax and table,table,table where = = = = on newer engines may misunderstand. that could be completely bogus and total hogwash.
@swasheck are you refering to the *= and =* joins?
@ypercubeᵀᴹ yes
Ok. That's was not asked in the specific question though.
The q was about old comma joins and JOIN syntax
i didnt read
ah. ok.
By the way. I had a discussion in a SO recently
16:46
congratulations
:)
Soemone claimed that SQL Server had a *=* join too (FULL JOIN)
I think that never existed but I can't be sure. Has anyone seen such a query/syntax?
i dunno
Considering that =* and *= existed in 2000 version (and I guess earlier) and were only deprecated recently (2008R2 or 2012?)
and there is no mention of *=* in any MSDN page, I find it very unlikely that such syntax existed, even in versions 6 or 7.
i mean ... the best way to test it would be to try it
@swasheck yeah but I don't have a version 6 available ;)
Paul or Aaron might have a CD somewhere
16:55
@ypercubeᵀᴹ Ha! No.
then we're doomed to speculation
Did they use CDs back then?
@ypercubeᵀᴹ 3.5" "floppy" disk
6.5 came on cassette.
@ypercubeᵀᴹ i dont think that @aaronbertrand loves us anymore
16:58
silly @swasheck, he never did, he only tolerated us ;-)
good point
@swasheck He does, he just doesn't visit the heap much. No names mentioned.
None of the regulars though!
ah. so we have a new one, eh?
used to be RTK
@swasheck Indeed. My understanding is the latest was simply the last straw.
Also, he's busy now he has a real job.
@PaulWhite oh yeah? what's that?
17:01
@swasheck "Product Evangelist"
street preacher
nice
Also I think hitting 100K represented a natural stepping back point.
@PaulWhite damn @billinkc
@Lamak Ha ha ha
Same thing with dezso?
17:05
@dezso Where have you been? We miss you.
Maybe he never got home from his trip to, what was it, dublin?

Q: Where can I lean database?

Mordechai HadadWhat website can I learn database from? websites like Codeacademy's teaching style ect. tnx for you time.

If not for my memory, because I'm often the elephant in the room
^^^ Against the wall?
17:30
@PaulWhite i prefer my databases plump and juicy
I see what you did.
nice, @TomV ... google.com
:)
@swasheck If you're talking about the comment, that's another Tom
Double Tom
Double gone.
17:35
my attention to detail is lacking today
I was looking for a good duplicate for that question, but it probably wasn't worth the effort.
@AndriyM What are words worth? :) -Tom Tom club
I would never post a sarcastic comment
17:56
@TomV my mistake
18:19
/fistshake
18:40
@swasheck what time are pre-meeting drinks?

I don't control her.
@mmarie never said you did. just influence
:D
a text has been sent
donkey shame
18:43
:-)
Why does it have to be so far away? (distance, not time) It takes 45 minutes to get there. from here.
I got a response. There will be Weed.
it's close to the event location
which is also far away from me
remember, i don't have to drive anywhere every day so i'm spoiled to no traffice.
well you have to arrive at the event location anyway, don't you?
@mmarie thnx for clarifying.
At first I though @swasheck meant "weed" and not a person.
Me too!
But then I remembered @swasheck has no shift key.
18:47
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????
@dezso :D
thanks for asking, I got back to Berlin, but am really busy recently

Q: PostgreSQL community channels other than mailing lists and IRC?

errrIs there an active channel for the PostgreSQL community other than the official mailing lists and IRC? I'd hope to find a forum-like channel. This is the 21st century after all...

Guy seems to be asking on a forum for a forum
18:54
Are forums so 21th century, by the way? — dezso 15 secs ago
@TomV Well, to be fair, we are Q & A, not a forum, and discussion is off-topic. We do have chat I suppose.
@swasheck only one
@dezso that's too many for me
the others were (don't remember)
@swasheck not my favourite either
but there are many others, the craft beer revolution reached Ireland, too
Ooo I haven't had a Guinness or a Murphy's for years.
18:58
@PaulWhite You tried it once and you're thinking about having another one?
2
@PaulWhite they both taste better from a pint glass than the 0.5 litre one
@TomV Ha, yes. I know it's personal taste, but I am rather partial to it.
@dezso I'm sure!
Some things should never go metric.
Actually, I can only think of that one thing :-/
@PaulWhite yes, it is so straightforward to count with cubic inches, fl ozs and gallons :D
kids are so cute
@dezso Speed of light: one foot per nanosecond.
19:09
@PaulWhite the well known New Zealand Short Foot, yes
Short Hairy Foot.
