7:02 PM
yeah. i dont like peeps either

@ypercube What was it - a ZX81 or some sort of single-board machine?

@swasheck @Zane, what are you talking about?

@ypercube dont know. i was trying to help @Zane avoid a $2.5mn fine from the NBA

@ypercube I'm talking about a co-worker.
It's never enough to say do this that and the other thing. You always have to sit at her computer and do it for it and it's obnoxious.

i HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE it when i push f4 in ssms

7:07 PM
@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells a made in korean computer, similar to Spectrum, same era and processor: BIT-90

@ypercube An MSX machine with 1kb of RAM.

I had to show a colleague what an Amiga and C64 was the other day. "Oh, that belongs in a museum!". Made me feel old :)

@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells I wonder how much these things worth now.

@swasheck i agree

@swasheck I keep properties up anyway.

7:11 PM
@ypercube Probably not much. Old speccies and working BBC machines with software have some residual value. Working Amiga or Archimedes systems actually go for a few hundred quid on ebay.
MSX never really hit the big time outside Japan, so old MSX boxen are more of a historical oddity than a design classic.
I had a Sega SC-3000 at one point.

Properties is all like. Here's a few execution plan tidbits ya'll didn't know about and I'm all like thanks properties.

Once upon a time I had the option of buying a secondhand Vax 11/750 from a classified ad in the local rag. I decided it was probably more trouble than it was worth.
Not a bad spec for an 11/750, though. 8MB RAM and two 456MB drives. It would have made a good space heater if it wasn't so noisy.
If I could track down a VAXStation I (a bus-based graphic terminal) I could have installed 4.2BSD and X on it.

I learned ARM assembly on an Arc. To think they were the only things using ARM CPUs back in the day & now there's billions of the things on the planet!

@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells Yeah. Someone asks 900 pounds for a Jupiter Ace
My best friend at school had one of those but he stupidly managed to lose the EPROMs.

@ypercube I think that's a bit ambitious, apart from the extreme rarity value. The Jupiter Ace was a flop and there was about 3/4 of buggerall software ever written for it.

7:25 PM
@swasheck you can assign/disable hot keys

I just now noticed the DBA site. Would my question be a better fit here than on SO? stackoverflow.com/questions/23393390/…

JNK
@Dane it's a good fit either place
but if you want a BETTER answer, ask it here :)

@Dane We can migrate it, if you want that.

JNK
a lot of the better folks on DBA.SE don't read SO that often, and it's easy for Qs to get swept up in the deluge
has anyone done the SQL Sentry trial here? cc @AaronBertrand
I tried getting the evaluation trial and the web page broke

@Dane if you want it moved just tell me. Being a SO mod I can move it quickly

@JNK can you be more specific?
@Zane sorry
@JNK sorry
@Kermit I really hate web pages that auto-play ad videos with no controls for pause/mute etc.

@AaronBertrand didn't happen to me

JNK
@AaronBertrand I signed up for the eval, and it prompted me to answer more Qs to get the extra 15 days

@JNK looking into it

@AaronBertrand how do you update these tags?

JNK
7:48 PM
just did that as well, and clicked "download" and the popup that I answered the survey in went away but the frame and scrollbar persisted and nothing else happened
@AaronBertrand in related news, the boss has authorized me to look into monitoring tools and SS is the frontrunner

@JNK nice. We'll figure this out.
My first contact can't repro, but I can, so...

@Kermit it's in the room info page

JNK
its in chrome if that matters
no rush I was going to start the eval tomorrow or friday

room topic changed to The Heap™ - Consultancy ©®: General on- and off-site discussion for dba.stackexchange.com [mysql] [nosql] [oracle] [postgresql] [sql-server] [vertica]
@ypercube thanks!

7:50 PM
Could you have it update to only include mysql if ronaldo is in here

@Kermit I should add

@JNK I repro'd in Chrome, Safari and IE.

@bluefeet you should specify the dbms.. you don't want to do pivot's in ms access

@Kermit why not? I know how to do it

LOL what

Q: Check it out .- SQL

user3590713this is the question: For each program with more than 2 students, list program title and the number of students (under an appropriate header). Our SQL code in Microsoft Access is: Select S.Name, COUNT(P.ID) From Student AS P , Program AS S where COUNT(P.ID) > 2; it is not working, what are ...

@bluefeet if you want to, i just hate ms access
@bluefeet much better!

You know how to pivot things in Access? Move it to SQL Server and then pivot it.

who in here can discuss ?
I nominate @Kermit

@MikeFal haha

@MikeFal I pivot in Access by rotating my monitor 90 degrees

7:55 PM
@Lamak NO

@Kermit good lord that has 2 reopen votes

@swasheck you know you can re-map that keyboard shortcut right? I do.

2 more delete votes before this thing explodes

Q: Do cats like keeping warm on car tyres in winter?

dwjohnstonAn image macro I've seen a few times, has an image of a cat sitting on top of a car tyre, and says to the effect of 'Reminder, cold season is starting, and cats seek shelter in cars, please check for cats before starting your car'. Do you cats really regularly sit on top of car tyres, and do t...

7:58 PM
@bluefeet Yeah, that would be great.
Moving my question, that is.

@Dane done -- here is the link -- dba.stackexchange.com/questions/64246/…

@JNK did you use gmail or something? Apparently we block registrations from free accounts (but don't currently do a good job of telling you that).

@AaronBertrand i know i can ... just dont
but i might need to start

Yeah F4 is my nemesis

8:13 PM
VTC, duplicate: stackoverflow.com/questions/23397053/… I can't stand watching a simple question with 4 almost identical answers.

stupid t-sql debugger

The really shitty part is that it's not a toggle, F4 again doesn't make it go away
I get rid of that stupid button too

just have to sit there and wait for it to finish whatever it's doing

8:30 PM
@AaronBertrand soooo ........... have you purchased the flowers yet?

8:41 PM
@JNK there's actually text that pops in right above "Register" that says: "Public and temporary email domains are not supported for evaluation purposes. Please register using a different email address, or contact sales."
Was not very intuitive to me.

9:30 PM
@swasheck I want one of those but just to thwart deadbeat cheaters in pub trivia

@AaronBertrand The cheaters could use Wifi. I think these devices only jam the mobile signal, not wifi frequencies.

Best to use an EMP, it's the only way to be sure

@billinkc knock out the pub trivia ... everybody wins
