I suspect that whichever portal is higher up would behave as though it were stupendously heavy, so much so that for all practical purposes, it would be impossible to raise one higher than the other. They would basically behave as though there were an invisible horizontal beam connecting them. But I am absolutely, utterly not sure about that.

@CassieSwett Remember that portals are made up. There is no way for them to work in the real world you can choose how they will function. If you want gravity to work through your portals then they'll probably function similar to how you describe. It really depends on what you're wanting to get out of your worldbuilding experience.

Yeah, what I've chosen is for them to function in a way consistent with Gauss's law for gravity and Hamiltonian mechanics. And now I'm trying to figure out what the actual implications of that are.
