2:09 PM
Mornin WB'ers

2:27 PM
Morning!

Today is not going to be productive...

@James heh. Not productive for work related reasons, weather related reasons, or WB related reasons?

2:43 PM
@AndyD273 Just in general I think

Ah. I'm getting stuff done, but it is going pretty slow today

@AndyD273 I am pondering the best ways to lead my current campaign players further into accidentally starting a war.

3:00 PM
@James Shouldn't be all that hard... they run into an unknown foreign prince in the woods minding his own business... How likely are they to just attack, especially if the prince is acting like a jerk or threatening, and doesn't announce that he's a prince. Change prince to whatever title makes most sense in this context.
if you know what buttons to push, it shouldn't be all that hard to do

oh. oh, no, this is the apocalyptic world ending type of war.
@AndyD273 The short version: god became mortal to help fight the demons invading the world a long time ago. He sacrificed himself to trap the demons in a prison made of...himself basically. There are these four magical gates that sort of seal up the prison. and are the border between that plane and the prime material.

Wait, if he's mortal, what happens once he dies?
Does the prison end?

@Hosch250 He basically used his essence/soul/whatever to seal the demons in a demi-plane

So what do they have to do to start the war?
Break the gates?

OK.

3:07 PM
kill the god?

The teifling's mom (demon) wants them to open little doors in all the gates so she can insta-travel between them and summon demons at her leisure.
The warlocks patron is a voice of dark insanity that drives him crazy while he sleeps...his shadow blade is basically the lock on the prison, he can open the gates.
The cleric's deity is telling him to destroy the gates. He has not explained why.
POP QUIZ: Which leads to the worst possible outcome?

Sounds to me like the gates open one way or another.
Also sounds to me like your adventurers are screwed either way--if they demons get out, they'll screw them.
If the demons are defeated again, they're screwed for letting them out.

So if the gates open, does that trigger the end of the world, or do the gates have to be destroyed completely?

Anyway the god and the voice of dark insanity are the same entity. Basically the god has been keeping demons at bay for thousands of years and it caused him a split personality.
Here's the irony. The one demon lord mom just wants little portals opened...think like a sally port in a giant city gate. That would give her power and allow her to summon demons.
Opening it all the way would release a bunch of demons in an uncontrolled fashion. This is what the demon overlord wants (he is much stronger than the mother demon but he can't escape the prison , yet)
If the gates are all destroyed. As the deity wants. The prison ceases to exist and all the demons are released at once....
Basically, god is tired of helping and being a prison for demons.

Seems like the real challenge in this scenario is not starting a world ending war, since all the routes are leading toward that

3:13 PM
I suppose the heartburn would be excruciating.
@AndyD273 Yeah, I mean, the least horrific option they have (though they don't know it) at this point is to help the players succubus mother control the gates...
None of them have realized (there have been hints) that destroying the gates is a real bad idea.

Actually, they have one more option.
Go find something else to do and leave the gates alone.

@James And build an arena just outside of one, where people can come far and wide and pay money to bet on heros fighting demons every night, as the demons are slowly released in a controlled fashion without being able to get out into the world
Between gambling, selling refreshment, and merchandise, it's a literal money machine.

@Hosch250 bahahahaha
Technically true, but they are definitely not going to.

3:39 PM
@AndyD273 Honestly I sort of manipulated and worked with the idea from the Starwars prequel trilogy.
Which was basically the only option the Jedi had.

4:36 PM

@Feeds How ... fitting.

That's why all communication in the coming revolution should be passed via rfc 1149

5:24 PM
> I'm Rachel Neill, a millennial female entrepreneur who is building out a best in class tech talent firm
OK, you just lost me right there, LOL.
If you are proud of being a lazy millennial, I won't work with you, and what do I care what's between your legs?
Oh, and you think I'm going to work with a recruiter tacky enough to send your stuff to my company email address?
sigh

6:18 PM
@AndyD273 RFC 1149: "A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers" Nice, and here I thought my favourite was RFC 2324: "Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol"

6:29 PM
@Secespitus Yup. Very slow, but very high throughput. Packet loss to hawk is a big pain though.

"Avian carriers can provide high delay, low throughput, and low altitude service." :D I love this kind of humour

I wonder about the "low throughput" part. You can get 100TB MicroSD cards
How long does it take to move 100TB over 100Gb fiber optic? Can a pigeon fly 100 miles faster?

@AndyD273 Definitely no.

@James Question for main: "How to make my pigeon fly 100 miles fast enough to be faster than 100Gb fiber optic for transmitting 100TB - assuming there are no hawks"

@Secespitus lol

6:38 PM
I hope the answer includes some kind of catapult. I always hope that.

@James Actually, I kind of wonder. According to google, a pigeons max speed is 77.6 mph. According to calculator.net, a 100TB file would take 2 hours 13 minutes 20 seconds over 100GbE. So, in theory, especially if you had a pigeon relay set up, the pigeon network would be faster.

@Secespitus I keep telling my boss we need to program funds for a catapult into our budget for 2020. We have a bunch of hardware that is getting replaced in the next 6 months and it would be very cathartic to see it sail through the air and explode against a concrete wall
@AndyD273 They wouldn't fly at top speed while carrying a hard drive though.

Why not a trebuchet?
@James Not a hard drive, a microsd card

@AndyD273 Answers involving a "Pigeon Relay Network" are always good answers.
@James Oh, that sounds like the perfect get-together for the IT department - crashing old equipment with unnecessarily complicated methods that look absolutely awesome.

OH! Have a contest, see who can design/build the best equipment thrower. Get points for style and distance

6:46 PM
@AndyD273 Slingshot Channel would probably win.

@Secespitus I know right. Get a keg and a grill, and a catapult...everyone would love that.

@Hosch250 I mean in @James IT department

@James I certainly would

Unless he works with someone from the slingshot channel, in which case, his other problem is solved
@James [Folksy narrators voice] Everyone did love that, right up until they ran out of equipment to throw, and launched the grill and the keg.
2

@James Can I come work for you :D

6:52 PM
@Hosch250 If I had my own company yes. When I win the lottery Ill hook you guys up.

I think you're the 3rd person to promise me a job when you win the lottery, LOL.

I have a dream that involves running a nerd ranch. Basically think of summer camp for adults with beer and good food and all the nerd things you could want to do.

One of my acquaintances has a dream of running a dude ranch for horse lovers. You two should hook up.
He doesn't have any money to do it.
But his dream is a ranch out near Rapid City.

@Hosch250 I want to have a forge. A range for guns and bows. A big huge communal game area with an old school hearth in the middle of the room. Big area with board games. An area with tables for playing dnd, and one of the employees would be the DM, an arcade with old school games...obviously a bar. One of my buddies is a great cook, so we'd serve big communal meals family style.

@James You could shoe his horses.
His employee (a just-out-of-HS kid) wants to learn blacksmithing.

6:56 PM
I suppose it'd need a swimming pool and hot tub too...

@James Go to Hot Springs, SD. They have natural hot springs there.

I wonder what kind of demand there would be for such a place...
That would be a lot of fun

With the right marketing, probably lots.
And in the right location, etc.

Basically sell group packages. Bring a group of friends, hang out, eat and drink and nerd around.
I wouldn't be opposed to horses either, I loved riding when I was a kid.

Hey, I'm thinking about buying some undeveloped acreage out in SD. Want to team up? It'll be super expensive to set up, though...
I could buy the land with cash, but I couldn't afford to develop for a while.

7:05 PM
@James That sounds like heaven

7:31 PM
@Secespitus I know right...
Alright I gotta run. Have a nice weekend all.

@James Thanks, you too
