Hi! uh… worldbuilding stackexchange has me confused and I'm looking for advice that I think wouldn't fit in the main part as a question. Essentially I just want to ask if anyone knows good ressources for late eocene flora and fauna cause I've planning a story at that point but I realise my world is… well… empty. And thinking of domesticating the species from then is also a conundrum… ugh… sorry if this chat is not the appropriate place for this, as previously said, i am confused about this place

S10 if you're fine with the price tag. The Google Pixel if you're not. Also there's the S10e if you want to stick with a galaxy but want to go cheaper.

Several friends have it and like it. For me the "bang for the buck" ratio seems a bit off.

Pixels do get updates way faster than just about any other Android on the market. Which from a security and a new feature standpoint is a plus.

They do sell a USB-C to 3.5mm converter if you "sometimes but not often" use 3.5mm.

My Sony overears I can go nearly a week of use on one battery charge. I can't get that life out of earbuds, even case included, so I stick to wired.

I listen to audio stuff all day, and my plantronics m70 has a 11 hour battery life, so I use it most of the time

Although the Sonys have such good sound quality my use of in-ear has sharply fallen off.

@NexTerren Mine are in ear but I wear them to the gym and to the forge...over isn't real practical for active use.

I do bluetooth Bose. I used to have in-ear, but I only wear them at work, and I'd have to charge them after about 8-10 hours, and I'd get ear infections periodically. I switched to over-ear, and I can use them for about 20 hours or more before charging.

@NexTerren They're big in Europe still. My dad got one when he needed a phone, and it's real nice.

I'll probably get one after my MS phone completely stops working.

@AndyD273 I don't know what it is, every time I get an OS update for the phone it screws up my contacts...stuff from forever ago shows up, I've had two contacts get merged, duplication happens all the time...super annoying.

OTOH, our SQL server is beginning to be more performant, and re-indexing the DBs is helping a little bit.

So, I need to go back and fix something or other before they approve it.

I still think we need to tweak the SQL Server configuration a bit somehow.

OTOH, I've been hearing some reports that some commonly hit pages are now approximately as fast as prod.

And then, we're getting maybe 100 hits per hour or less on stage, and we get thousands on prod, so after some initial slowness, I'm guessing our SQL DBs will get the data they need to optimize themselves a bit better on prod.

And our prod DBs have 10 years worth of data to optimize themselves with, so...

OTOH, I'm not relying on that either way... I don't think it'll get that much faster just from optimization, after re-indexing. Some, but not that much.

We are using Azure Application Insights.

So we have graphs of general things, like DB call times, time to server response, client load times, etc.

We also have some crude logs of how long certain parts of our site take, but I can't see that on prod since that isn't hosted by Azure yet.

But I can compare old data to new data.

We also think part of the issue is that before, we had a server running SQL Server and another running our web apps, and they were right next to each other physically, and possibly even directly wired (I don't know about this).

Now, we're using an Azure web app and a VM for our DBs, so there's more latency between the two.

Just curious - in my DnD campaign i'm writing, the party of adventurers comes across a forest. This forest used to be chill and whatnot, but as a result of the big bad's tampering with dark magic, an endless, bone-chilling winter has covered it. Due to that, most (if not all) of the native animal...

I mean, no is the obvious answer. But this kind of question seems dangerous.

I will note that the format and pacing have changed pretty drastically with last season (7) and this final season. Season 6 was the last season based on a written book. Having read all the books I have to say I think the change is for the best...Martin created a cool world but man...

He makes Tolkien look like he wrote in cliff notes.

Honestly this is a good change in my opinion, Martin was 6 novels in and kept introducing new characters and plot lines...which in the face of "The world is ending" got really really annoying.

@NexTerren But as I understand it the show's creators have been working with Martin on the plot, so it can't be too far off what he had planned.

And the API and I have different ideas what the "page" parameter should mean, so I'm stuck.

I would presume that I specify "pagesize" to limit how many results I get per request, and then, like browsing SE or Google or a forum, I'd hand the "page" parameter to ask which grouping of "pagesize" I want. However, no matter what value of "page" I provide I get the same results.

One of our clients unexpectedly hit our site with 200-300 times the usual traffic, and one part of our site is kind of stuck. Unfortunately, it's one one of the 2 parts of the site that load asynchronously, so the whole site is kind of stuck.
