Q: Cryo-Tags Suggestion / Proposal (cold stuff)

kipbitsI'm trying to define a QA context about especially cold ice-worlds(maybe they should be called cryo-worlds), where surface temperature range 0-100°K. I noticed there is not a tag for ice-world, nor cryo-world, and cryogenics tag description says it's reserved for cryogenic hibernation specificall...

Q: Why is "predators part 2" too story based?

MarielSWhy was Predators part 2: How can a boarding action from super aliens be repelled? closed as too story based? The descriptions of what is "too story based" tend to boil down to what is stated here in this post: Asking about plot elements such as the actions of characters, rather than about...

Q: Is there a place for questions asking for advice about worldbuilding?

BenThis question, Designing a worldbuilding workshop for policymakers, seems to have multiple problems as it doesn't ask a single clear question, and it isn't really about world building, instead it's looking for advice relating to world-building. That said it seems like a question people in this c...

The reason on how this happen may point towards the solution to the women objectification problem in the gaming and fictional work industry
15:44
@Secret Don't know who that is, but care to elaborate? Also, a statement like that seems like it is begging for a "hold my beer" moment, but I'm not interested in checking.
Ok let me eleborate: Shiki Ryougi is a character in a Japanese novel called Kara no Kyoukai. She is the heroine of the story, which deals with all sorts of weird things including how her family has connections to the void and root of the world and thus she has great powers
K, standard fantasy style tropes
Now basically, this character is pretty unusual for ACG works that there are almost no doujin on her unlike most other women anime character who often a casual google search will often have at least one picture of them dressing in bikini or other forms of objectification kind of things
The redditers theorised that probably because the character development is so cool no fandom is willing to touch her leading to this unusual apparent violation of Rule 34
Meanwhile, after I read this, I felt like if this form of deterrence can be replicated to the whole ACG industry, it might be able to stop the social problem of women objectification completely (because anime is responsible for a lot of women objectification trends usually proliferated by otakus), though I am not sure if I am too naive to think of that
So the possible solution is to give the characters more character/personality? I approve of this on a story telling level for sure. I think a small part of the problem is that most of the anime style characters are designed to be objectified.
Question, does she have a romance sub-plot in the story?
only with the male lead character, who is basically her husband, so nothing sidelined going on
15:55
OK, so if there isn't much "sexual tension" in the story, that's not going to give the rule 34 octopus tentacles as much to grab on to... Does she act lewd/flirty much, or fairly modest?

Very deathly serious assassin like as far I knew
she does not display much emotions, but then there are many anime characters have similar traits of coolness, and yet Rule 34 still screwed them
so Shiki is a strange outlier
@Secret Not sure about your search filters but the second result when I searched for 'Shiki Ryougi doujin' was definitely NSFW.
Sure, but compare that with the google search of almost any prominent anime character, you are going to have half the page flooded with bikinis or something more skimpy
For all other characters, searching only their name will return quite a lot of NSFW, but for Shiki, you actually need to be that specific to find a Rule 34 presence
so that she is highly resilient to rule 34 still holds, and this is what is interesting about this phenomenon
@Secret agreed. A search only for "Shiki Ryougi" had a ton of unusually modest artwork.
Was introduced to Rule 34 from this discussion. It's hilarious and shows the absurd breadth of human sexuality.
16:05
@Green First time you've heard it?
@AndyD273 First heard of it as Rule 34. There's an old XKCD comic on the subject which was my first exposure to the idea.
It's basically the Godwin's law of porn, and it starts to get really awkward when you combine those two together.
@AndyD273 HAHAH!!! I'll bet!
@AndyD273 Lovely. Some new nightmare fuel was just what I needed.
@Gryphon This is WB. We make nightmare fuel like fish drink water. ;)

That bottom one is horrifying.

@Gryphon I dunno. I'd buy 65 of them for a penny. Seems like a good deal

Hey, what do people think about worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/142362/627? In its current state, I feel like it might be reopenable.
@HDE226868 Seems fine to me. I'm nominating it for reopening.
The answer seems to be a pretty firm "no", but it's still an interesting question.
After further thought, I believe I can write a slightly better answer (at least explaining why it's impossible) than the one Alexander wrote . . . which makes me less inclined to cast one of the reopen votes at all, tbh.
Turns out there are a couple different reasons - one from thermodynamics, the other from relativity itself.
17:16
@HDE226868 So, you wouldn't vote to reopen because you can give it a good answer?
@AndyD273 In a sense, I guess.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Maybe I still will, because I do think it should be reopened.
Seems kinda backward? Or I'm confused? If it is a question that should be reopened on it's own merit, AND you have a good answer for it, why wouldn't it be an instaclick?
Although, mathematically, what does happen when you inject a lot of negative mass into a black hole?
@AndyD273 If it's more negative mass than normal mass then wouldn't the black hole start to spread out?
Like, if you have a smallish black hole of 3 solar masses, and you throw in -3 solar masses, or even -1.5 solar masses, to where it's below the schwarzschild radius, would it unsingularity?
@Green Yeah, kind of what I was wondering.
@AndyD273 Yeah, that's fair.
17:31
@HDE226868 OK. just curious if I was missing some finer WB nuance or something...
@AndyD273 No, just me being a bit slow this Wednesday.
The trick would be how to get negative mass into the black hole to begin with.
@Green That is a really good point
You'd probably have to inject it at relativistic speed
@AndyD273 I thought something similar.
Maybe in the form of anti-photons? I really want anti-photons to exist.
Oh!!! Has anyone not seen the starship propulsion idea of using black holes that are made of light? (This is different from the halo drive)
You'd almost need a dyson sphere to make one, but it's a pretty cool concept
Also, I learned what a Swartzchild Kugelblitz was, which is pretty cool.
17:38
@AndyD273 That's the coolest name! Kugelblitz!
You only need a gamma ray laser that puts out the equivalent energy the sun releases in 1/10th of a second, and you could make a Kugelblitz with 3 empire state building masses, which could potentially power a star ship for 5 years when put into it's own tiny dyson sphere.
And every single part of that is awesome.
What would be the radius of that kugelblitz?
17:55
@Green German has some amazing words.
@AndyD273 Yeah, I'm actually struggling to come up with some pedantic nitpicking point about how some part of that isn't awesome.

@NexTerren We played DnD last night. It was arguably the strangest session I have ever participated in...
What happened?
(I don't play DnD [my parents were the type to think you'd become a serial killer if you did], but I like hearing about it.)
@Hosch250 It might not be too late... @NexTerren is looking for a participant, and you don't even have to travel.
I could only play weekends, and I don't have anywhere private to do without background noise from my family, etc.
@Hosch250 there are RPG clubs or conventions, so you have a chance to try it out, without inviting people at home...
at least here in Europe... but I'd be surprised not to find any in other places :)
Yeah, bet they have them in the city near me. But I don't have a parking permit.
I'm not tight on money, but I'm living like I am so I can buy a house soon.
So, most unnecessary expenses get nipped. Like parking permits :)
21:16
@HDE226868 that's because they play Lego withheir words ;-)
@bilbo_pingouin I thought that was Finland.
@Hosch250 I have no idea what a parking permit is... but aren't there any public transportation?
@bilbo_pingouin You need a permit for that too, and not really.
US cities have parking ramps. There are more cars than places to park, so you have to pay to park.
@Hosch250 My Finnish is way too limited to know, but German like to concatenate words to make something else
Otherwise, you need to rideshare or use a taxi or public transportation.
And public transportation is really slow and dangerous.
As in, it's mostly used by gangs and hookers.
21:18
Nice ^^"
I'm kinda curious what city you live in the general vicinity of...
So, I live north-east of St Paul.
I work in the north-west of Minneapolis.
Ah. I have no idea what it's like there, but it sounds horrible.
It would take about 12 hours to cross the cities and get to work by public transportation. I looked it up once.
geeze
21:20
The light rail (electric train) runs north/south through the cities, more or less, and loses about $100 per passenger, or something.
Granted, where i live isn't big enough to have much in the way of public transportation. I don't think we even have uber...
My aunt's bf was beat up bad at the bus stop once for witnessing another crime.
We have taxi, but they charge an arm and a leg.
@Hosch250 (O.O)
We have Uber, but I don't trust anybody enough to take an Uber without having at least a bowie.
There's been more than one kidnapping/murder on Uber/Lyft.
sounds like a dream place to be...
21:25
Basically, I budget c. $30/wk for car expenses, and $100 or so for additional car expenses (oil change, etc.). IIRC, it's $5/day for a ride-anywhere-all-day ticket for the public transportation system.
Might be a little less. But even if it was $3, I'd lose money by not having a car, since the public transportation doesn't go everywhere, and it doesn't go at the times I'm usually available. And that's even with running errands of a few miles with my bike and backpack (which I do anyway).
Anyway, TTQW.
