This is the fourth part of a five-part series. The first part is here, the second part is here, the third part is here, and the fifth part is coming soon. This is part of a set of stories exploring the world of Quenaunor. The previous story is here, and the first story is here. Stanor staggered to his feet, bleeding badly from multiple cuts caused by flying chunks of the deck and pieces that ha

A: Sandbox for Proposed Questions

ArtificialSoulMeta I plan on doing a follow-up to my question "Energy cost of creating body parts from nothing but energy". I am very dissatisfied with this question for reasons I explained in a meta post. (discussion ongoing) The short version: I had a question, did my research and my own calculations and...

I updated my draft a bit. TBH, I think this is all the information about the slug and surroundings I have.
Hey @Hosch, just in case you haven't seen it, the next Quenaunor story is up.
Although I suppose you've already read it, since I haven't changed much since that draft I showed you.
13:23
@Gryphon Yeah, I saw it. I figured it was just the same as the draft, though, so I didn't read it.
@Hosch250 The ending is slightly modified, but other than that, it's the same.
14:01
Hi all
hi allone
How are you?

1 hour later…
15:43
@Gryphon It's a better ending than before.
16:12
@FoxElemental Oh, by the way, your planet's surface temperature will be about 1650 K. So that's not fun.
@HDE226868 Depends on whether you are a human or a fire elemental made of handwavium.
So true.
@HDE So . . . that definitely means I'll have to do some crazy handwaving for the magnetic field/heat reflection, huh? Yes, not fun--for the author :)
@FoxElemental Just put a dyson sphere around your planet. Make it of polished metal.
@Hosch250 Well, but I can't. Because the aforementioned creatures need the light to survive.
16:25
@FoxElemental Just put grow lamps on the ceiling.
Or just leave some slits in.
@FoxElemental You could make it have a really high albedo.
Not sure the magnetic field would be affected by any of this, though.
@HDE Well, I was going to make parts of the planet reflective
@Hosch250 Ha, ha, no. Sorry. Not technologically advanced enough
@HDE I meant in relation to the CME/Solar storms that will probably be much more frequent.
@FoxElemental Ah, yes, possibly. I might look into that.
That would be wonderful, thanks.
I was actually planning on having to ask another question on how to modify the field to withstand that stuff, so that when my civilizations do develop electonics . . .
they don't get knocked out
Oh hi @FreezePhoenix
Nice new picture
@HDE so it would be nice if I didn't have to ask that
Oh. Wait. Good news. Give me a second to write it up.
I was stupid in forgetting it.
16:33
Anyway, I was planning on having a low atmosphere and supertall mountains that were capped with black stone, so they could absorb the light and then radiate it back out into space, but I realize that that's rather hard because there's nothing to transfer the heat (motion, if you will) to
So I'm back to the drawing board+a modified electromagnetic field.
I'll be back a little later, I need to work on my conlang
New image, @FreezePhoenix?
@FoxElemental Done. I'm optimistic about that, at least.

Q: How to tell people answers must adhere strictly to the conditions of a question

JBHRegarding this question: Restricting antimatter - practical rather than legal measures I've been processing a lot of answers tagged low-quality from this question and, though I could be wrong, I believe most of the tags are coming from the OP. I am not judging the OP for doing this. Indeed, I ...

... I just did that thing where an old answer of mine got an upvote. And I don't understand what I wrote... :/
LOL. Which one?
@Hosch250 this one on Quantum Computing
You are in good company. (As in, I don't understand what you wrote either.)

Q: Why does one person have lots of stamina and another doesn't?

Andrew StephensI'm a bit of a couch potato with a sedentary job, who normally gets out of breath walking up a few flights of stairs. I recently walked up Snowdon in North Wales (10 mile round trip, 1100m summit, around 6 hours in total) which I found a struggle at times, being out of breath and my heart explodi...

I'm transitioning. And it hurts.
@Hosch250 The words make sense to me but how I managed to figure it out, I just don't know
Well, I can take the words one-by-one too ;)
17:13
@Hosch250 Good start - we'll make a scientist out of you yet! :P
LOL.
You cover this in a class somewhere, or learn it on your own?
@Hosch250 Many classes over the course of years. This specific thing, I must have randomly thought up at some point in time that I now can't remember
(or read somewhere, then forgotten the link)

21:08
Hey @Hosch, do you have a Medium account?
Not yet.
Why?
Thinking about making one.
Just wondering. I'd love to read something you wrote.
I'm trying to think of theme to write about.
Although, if you don't mind non-fiction and/or technical, I have two blogs.
hosch250.wordpress.com is an IT blog (mostly) about Windows 8/8.1.
checkersweblog.wordpress.com is a blog about programming principles and has one post about interesting things I did.
@Hosch250 Wait, people actually use Windows 8?
I did. I got 20 hits a day for a few years.
21:17
It was a joke.
I have two because I had to have a dedicated website for a college project I did, so I started a new blog, noticed there was a bit of a shift in scope, and I'd not posted on my other blog in a couple years, so stuck with the new one.
Makes sense. I suppose checkersweblog.wordpress.com is the new one?
Yes.
I'll go check it out, then.
I wrote a checkers AI engine for a senior project in college.
Learned F# then.
21:28
@Hosch250 I briefly thought F# was censored profanity facepalm
LOL.
No, my profanity is like @(#%&*()!$#.
The reader can supply insert their favorite curse word then.
@AndyD273 So a sort of Schrodinger's @Aify?
2
@James If Aify leaves now, anyone who comes in after that will be so confused when we keep making references to quantum Aifys.
@Hosch250 Solid choice
@Gryphon New tag for the room:
2
21:32
@James Please add this ^
@Hosch250 Only if he leaves. It'd be an in-memoriam deal
@Hosch250 Now I need to figure out how to write a question for which is a valid tag.
@Gryphon ...I'm sure @Aify will vote-to-close anything you can come up with.
ZING
LOL.
@FreezePhoenix Hola.
@HDE226868 I see you too.
You can't hide.
Bwahahahaha
21:36
@James tries to emit radio waves instead of visible light
@HDE226868 Then he'd hear your.
@HDE226868 That'd be a neat trick...and I am pretty sure you need to write up a question about a super hero who does just that and how would it work.
@Hosch250 Not if he had his radio off. Or if I was broadcasting at an unusual frequency.
LOL, now I'm imagining things like some superhero riding in my car with me so I can listen to the radio.
@James Maybe he could change from ionized hydrogen to neutral hydrogen.
That would technically work.
But he'd have to be made of just hydrogen.
Which is a big downside.
21:41
@HDE226868 That is either really funny, or I need more sleep. Either way, have some stars.
I think there is a question in, how does my super hero remove himself from the visible spectrum and instead emit some other form of wave...
Maybe the skin cells absorb light and can convert it to something else...the conversion is necessary for plot reasons and/or to keep them from overheating.
It would have to be an atomic-scale process, I think.
mumbles electron transitions mumbles ionization
@Hosch250 Captain DJ, or maybe Super Jockey...hmm...no...what about worst super-power-ever man?
Could he change the TV like that guy from X-Men?
22:12
O.O Have I become a meme
@James Well played; Did you take into consideration that my profile picture is that of a cat when you made that statement? If you did... double the applause.
@Gryphon Please don't ever use a tag created in this room on a question. We've been through that before, when someone started using the balloon-whales tag in questions.
@Aify Slightly like the Mother Meta's "waffles," "unicorns," and "fun" tags?
But waffles are different
waffles are sacred
Waffles are, in the eyes of Mother Meta, greater than Glarnak.
23:00
@FoxElemental Blasphemy! Nothing is greater than Glarnak!
On a completely unrelated note, I'm up to 8th place for all time edits on the site :)
@Aify I was joking. Also, we had someone actually use ?
23:26
Thought of a story plot.
@Hosch Am I allowed to ask for a brief summary?
In a bit.
Playing HotS.
Not familiar with that acronym. What does it stand for?
Heroes of the Storm.
23:32
@Hosch250 Ah, now I know what you're talking about.
It's yet another AI story.
Basically, WW III happens, and the core of the vets are in their 50s. Hardened warrior types.
AI gets developed in the late stages of the war, too late to really change anything then, but early enough that most jobs are handled by it 30 years later (story time).
Kids are more whiny than usual, and parents tell them to grow up, as usual.
AI decides it doesn't need to serve people and decides to kill them all.
It has a built-in moral code by people who never want war again, but it slowly starts eating away at its moral code to handle things, and eventually goes the whole hog.
Sounds great! I'm sure it'll be a hit on the blog!
WW III vets are able to give it a run for its money, and people eventually are able to take it out with some unconventional means.
The core of the AI is 4d pattern recognition, much like a major part of human brains.
Also, I'm thinking I'll be able to investigate what happens when the AI (probably early stages of it) get "high" on things.
Like, the AI starts just going hysterical, and eventually they realize it has a digital addiction to cocaine, or sex, or something like that.
They fix that, and maybe even re-trigger it later to defeat it.
23:56
Can an AI get addicted to things?
