@Bellerophon Unfortunately, the second law explicitly forbid any heat to be converted to any kind of work with 100% efficiency
having said that... I might check with the physics guys on this...

Does there exists a form of visible light that is not work?
01:19
hey again @Green
@Shalvenay hah ha! We meet again!
The bread turned out well.
Still not as good as I'd like but getting there.

hey there @Gryphon

9 hours later…

Hmmmm.

> George Lucas, on the other hand, considers the two aspects of the Force separately, treating the midi-chlorians as the practical, biological side, distinct from the spiritual and metaphysical side of the Force.[12]
Misconception clarified. Revising diagram in progress
Gentlemen?
Question: how easily can OPEC strangle the West, if it wanted to?
12:39
And old minecraft ship I built in the past, specs were shown:
Lol, looks like I do have anti RKV technology after all

1 hour later…
13:58
@Shalvenay? Is anyone alive?
Because I am not sure how War of the Worlds may be a useful influence for the Visitor series.
14:12
@Shalvenay? One more thing. Anything in materials that could be useful in sustaining thermal shocks?

1 hour later…
15:34
hey there @Green
hey as well @Gryphon
15:54
@Shalvenay Hello
how're things going?
Not bad. Holidays are almost over :(
16:10
alright here, it's kinda nice getting back to normal after the mess that is the holiday season
It's approaching zero degrees F where I am. Very glad my apartment is warm (and I don't pay for heat).
16:39
@Shalvenay? Question: any decent materials that could resist thermal shock?
And projectile velocities going at 5 km/s?
Because I am thinking.........reinforced carbon-carbon.
sighs
Why do I get the feeling that I am just talking to myself?
@FutureHistorian thermal shock probably wouldn't be an issue for RCC too much (it tends to be mostly a problem in brittle materials)
problem is, RCC lacks impact resistance
it can be damaged by chunks of foam
16:56
Foam is a deadly weapon in the hands of a master.
@Shalvenay? So, any better materials that can withstand thermal shock AND projectile rounds?
@Bellerophon? Any material suggestions for both resisting thermal shock and resisting projectile rounds from coilguns?
17:14
Not my area if expertise.
@FutureHistorian I'd be looking at refractory metal-matrix materials as the outer layers in a composite system. perhaps something from the Inconel family?
18:00
That makes sense.
Specifically, what?
@Shalvenay.

hey there @Mithrandir24601
@Shalvenay Rytsas! Just arrived back in Bristol and have made some (what I believe is) silver needle tea :) How're things?
@Mithrandir24601 alright here :)
got a potential wb.se question to workshop actually
"what would the the most difficult things for an Age of Sail sailor (lets use Christopher Columbus as an example) to adapt to if he was resurrected in our age and hired on the crew of a modern merchant vessel (say a containership or a bulker -- nothing RoRo/RoCon or tanker-y, and no pax)?"
@Shalvenay the only issue I can see (with my extremely limited knowledge here) is what exactly you mean by "most difficult things"
@Mithrandir24601 hrm...trying to figure out where the major challenges would be -- most difficult to grasp things, if you will
or do I need to go a level deeper?
