In The Beginning… Right from the start, Great Lakes Earth proved itself to be different from our own. Our Earth first came into existence 4,543,000,000 years ago as an inhospitable ball of molten rock that barely survived a crash from a Mars-sized rogue planet whose impact gave rise to the creation of our moon. Great Lakes Earth came into its solar system exactly five billion years ago as the r

Quiet Europe today.
Has it ever been different?
Yes. I've walked into chat some mornings to see hundreds of messages passed between a few european WBers.
Well no luck there then
No, not today and that's okay.
We were waiting for you... we would not want you to miss anything ;)
12:33
Thanks :)
@bilbo_pingouin you might've been. I've been crying in my silent corner for the last 5 hours
12:44
crying in silence? that does not sound very productive... ;)
@bilbo_pingouin For sure. How is anyone going to collect all those tears if they don't know that the tears exist?
Public demonstration of tear production is essential for efficient tear collection. @dot_Sp0T, you're going to have to come cry in public please.
I dun wanna
@dot_Sp0T Come, come now. We both know that tears production is down for the month and needs improvement. Your bold salty tears will contribute to the Cause.

sigh
(Okay, I'm done. :) )

Anyone of you working with Java?
@dot_Sp0T nope, but why?
@dot_Sp0T Used to, but not in the last two years. What's up?
Trying to do things I don't get to work :) And it's usually more efficient to get in external views
I worked with Java once
now I work with Javascript, but everyone calls it Java anyway
@DaaaahWhoosh define everyone
13:23
@DaaaahWhoosh is it to feel better about it?
@dot_Sp0T maybe not everyone, but at least two people who talk to the client more than I do
@DaaaahWhoosh business analysts?
one of them, the other is a project manager I think
@DaaaahWhoosh I remember that guy who sorta led the group of fansubbers I've once been part of talking about making a new website using php & java; so I got intrigued and asked him how exactly that worked in regards of java being compile and everything and php as well being server-side but interpreted......... Well yeah, I didn't really intend to stay in that group anyways

oooooooh buggedy connection bug bug (or some javascript bug)
huh, I don't think I've ever seen a double post in chat before

I have attained god-status then

Don't be scared my little sheep; I will not do you any harm. Talk, talk and prosper!
I do want to say I'm somewhat satisfied with my roach farming question
though it seems like the best answer was posted in under a minute, I've been waiting to see if anything better shows up and it has not
@DaaaahWhoosh try adding a bounty to it after a few days (some 100-200 rep), that usually gets out some more answers
I guess I'm not really complaining about the lack of good answers, just that I like it when they get better over time.
13:54
@DaaaahWhoosh, got a link to the roach farming? I"ll have a look.
Humans farm strange things

Q: Farming after the apocalypse: chickens or giant cockroaches?

DaaaahWhooshSo let's say you live in a terrifying post-apocalyptic world. For whatever reason, this world is now infested with cockroaches the size of chickens (similar to radroaches from the Fallout games, but ignore the radiation). My question, then, is would it be better for a chicken farmer to keep on ...

@DaaaahWhoosh That top answer is really good. I can't do better.
yeah, I guess I might as well go ahead and accept it. It's just so anticlimactic to instantly get the right answer to something.
Since we have cockroach farms, do we have rat farms as well?
14:00
@DaaaahWhoosh But it's a nice award to be first post and the accepted answer.

Q: Question Clarification as an Answer

FrostfyreYesterday, I came across an answer from a new user that caught my attention not because of its quality (or lack thereof), but because it consisted of 15 questions to the OP and 1 suggestion. I suggested the user take those questions to chat, discuss them with the OP, and provide an answer. I als...

@DaaaahWhoosh I agree with @dot_Sp0T , adding a bounty would likely attract the eyes of the users who actually can do math on the input to output ratio
@TrEs-2b eh, too late. I'm not gonna risk giving you more rep
though I do like that answer that suggests raising chickens and cockroaches

I wasn't aware that dogs were particularly good at worshiping.

I don't like it when people are vague
like, maybe if it's vague to encourage the other person to ask questions, but if you ask a question that is vague, that part bothers me
though I guess I'm just as bothered when people add information that is wrong, so there's really no way to win
20:28
Such as "what are your thoughts on ____?"
I hate that specific question.
what are your thoughts on half-lives?
@DaaaahWhoosh You can just go into a corner and decay for 20,000 years.
2
that's the exact response I didn't know I needed
but I've recently been wondering if there's any isotope that decays into another isotope that has different enough properties that you could get a jar of it and use it to tell time
20:47
@DaaaahWhoosh Get on that and figure it out for me.
say -- I know we have questions on fire breath, and lightning weapons, do we have any on lightning breath?
I had a question about ice breath once, I think
ah, hold on

Q: Breathing lightning

FrostfyreThis question is partly a nod to the current fortnightly challenge. In many fantasy settings and resources, there are creatures capable of, or described as, breathing lightning. How might a creature evolve naturally such that it can emit lightning, or an effect that may be easily mistaken for li...

I remember in 5th grade I told a story about three dragons. One could produce fire, one could produce ice, the third could produce electricity
@DaaaahWhoosh -- I was thinking about Andy's comment about using lasers to ionize air to produce a "conduit" for lightning to travel down
and was wondering "could a biological laser exist?" considering that critters can produce HV, and we're surrounded by a laser gain medium...
and was wondering if that'd be a good question for the site
if we don't have a question about animals shooting laser beams out of their mouths, then I will be disappointed
8
Q: Sharks with frickin' lasers!

celtschkYes, this is about Dr. Evil's dream: Sharks with frickin' lasers. Except that the lasers would not be artificially attached, but be part of the animal itself (bio-lasing instead of simply bioluminescence). In short: Would it be possible for an animal (shark or otherwise) to grow a laser at its h...

what do you guys think of this comment I made:
These types questions need a general answer somewhere people can be pointed to because it's the same everywhere. "Any structure can be done via biological means, but whether it would ever develop is another question entirely and for most of these questions it is a not likely to occur status"
