@Skye do you remember if we were talking about a follow-up for the crescent-roll-moon question?
06:20
So, the mind-crime killer thread is finally resolved. 92 views short of the 10K, so that's a bit of a pain. I guess it'll finally tip over at some point. Nice to see that it got quite popular though.

Wow. I'm top of the stats. How the heck did that happen. Beers are on me...
@Pete great, I'll have 20
07:48
@Pete I see you've been a busy bee
slow morning so far.
See any issues with the booze-olution question so far?
Nope. Seems ok to me.

Check this out: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/56951/2746 now that's an answer I like
10:42
Well, that's nice. I get a Close flag within 30 seconds of posting a question. No explanation at all, it's just there. I guess I have a fan.
@Pete what question? Oh, that animal thing; It wasn't me, I swear. But I can see why someone would flag it, it can be interpreted as offensive by people not accustomed to science
That's why I specified a dead animal. I wouldn't be fool enough to use live animals as weapons.
@Pete booze-rat molotovs
Two flags now.
The cool thing might be taken as a reason for marking it opinion-based

Does anybody know how the speed of the spin of the earth relates to its mass and thus to stability? Resp.: Would a 1.1 times bigger, some 100kph slower spinning earth be less stable?
Or do I have to type it up as a question :(
I don't think spin matters much to stability
the earth could probably stop spinning and be fine
Does it matter to anything at all actually? Besides the length of days
probably weather would be different
Oh it matters to the amount of sunlight/heat over a specific area
slow spin -> more heat
I was thinking of the coriolis effect
13:41
I don't speak that fancy language of yours
it's the thing where you throw something straight but it ends up curving because the Earth is spinning
I assume it has effects on air currents
It seems that you're telling me to type it up
that probably would have been the short answer
I fear my question will be branded too broad
and I fear that another car will drive off an overpass and crush me
because think about it, you can watch the other cars on the road, but what do you do about the cars above you?
13:49
Don't you have a roof where you live?
no, I mean when I'm driving
God made roofs to prevent things falling on your head
yes, but man made roofs to prevent rain, not falling vehicles
If you believe in god and pray and pay money to the church you will be safe
yeah, that's probably true
13:51
God loves you nonetheless
in a totally platonic way
Needed to get that out of my system
@dot_Sp0T you are forgiven
You two need to be supervised...
@James well, that's your job, innit?
14:00
Go to your rooms.
I am at my room!
Actually I'm not. I'm on the train back home from uni. But you wouldn't necessarily know that.
...no...of course I wouldn't know that. I really like your hat by the way.
HA! I got you! I am not wearing a hat! It's a flat cap!
...semantics if it goes on your head its a hat...or a chicken but that's not relevant here.
14:13
@JourneymanGeek ...I should have said poultry.
Yeah, that's a turkey
Glorious gorious death of infidels
I must say, chat this morning is exactly how I want it to be
It's late afternoon here :/
@dot_Sp0T yes, and it's 5:00 somewhere
14:18

14:52
@rek is that last edit really necessary? For me it is now less understandable than before
@DaaaahWhoosh ping; I am sorry, I mainly want to test if you get a popup or sth to tell you that you have been referred to in this chat
15:07
@DaaaahWhoosh I beg your pardon?
@dot_Sp0T I wasn't aware of the meaning of 'sth'
@DaaaahWhoosh I didn't even know I used it. Sorry. Abbreviation for something
@dot_Sp0T abbreviation for what?
@DaaaahWhoosh abbreviation for something
@dot_Sp0T can you be more specific?
15:10
@DaaaahWhoosh I like you too
but anyway, I was in chat, so it just updated the page title and played a noise
How's green?
15:26
@dot_Sp0T the person? Dastardly. The color? Invisible to me sometimes.

15:38
@Pete I chose to write it here instead of in a comment, but: Because normally is not considered a valid response to a How question... E.g. if you look at this example: How did little Jimmy drown? a) Because of global warming b) Little Jimmy drowned by ingesting large amounts of water without expulsing them fast enough

whoooooooaaaaaa I just read a comment on SFF that connected fairy-stories with stories of alien abductions
so, like, maybe people have always been 'abducted', they just made up different explanations through the ages
17:11
@DaaaahWhoosh Well, the existence of aliens would certainly explain you.
@NexTerren that burn was out of this world
you deserve a star
did you planet, or was it a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing?
@NexTerren Do you mean he was bred?
@DaaaahWhoosh STAAAAHP.
Those were cosmically bad. :(
@dot_Sp0T You can infer what you wish to infer.
@NexTerren I galac-see what you mean
17:26
... there was an attempt
And you got a gold star! Albeit one fitting the nature of your attempt.

@dot_Sp0T I had to ask what "more sole-area" meant, so yes I feel "each foot's large sole" is easier to understand.

Q: Are TV Tropes links unwelcome here?

gaazkamWhen I was idly browsing this site, I found something odd: someone, posting a link to TV Tropes, considered it necessary to explicitly warn people that this is a link to TV Tropes: You need an Applied Phlebotinum (warning: TV tropes link) to explain why this superpower is real. What can giv...

19:25
^ Megan in the last panel was pretty much me during my special relativity class today.
@HDE226868 I should probably not start teaching you guys about the 5th force then
@dot_Sp0T ?
@dot_Sp0T I think you mean the Force.
@HDE226868 well.... there's Gravitational force, electromagnetic force, weak force, strong force..... and there's the force driving everything constantly apart thus making the universe expand: Hatred
@dot_Sp0T Heavy sigh
19:37
@NexTerren it's called the Unified Hatred Theory
@dot_Sp0T There's a relevant xkcd, but I don't want to be the guy who always links to those. It's be worse than TV Tropes.
@HDE226868 That's fantastic...
@HDE226868 'there's one of these we don't really understand. ' 'Is it strong or weak-' 'It's gravity.'
@DaaaahWhoosh Yep. Right comic.
but I can't remember the title
well... the other title
19:40
@DaaaahWhoosh Voila: xkcd.com/1489.
And with that bombshell good night
And don't forget your daily dosis of booze-rats (I am not shamelessly self-promoting my horrible questions)
20:29
This is amazing:
@James It's nearly 15,000 pixels tall.
@NexTerren xkcd timeline
@James Shouldn't that be a timeline of the comic?
Global temperatures back to 20,000 BC. Basically pointing out the idiocy of not believing in global warming
@James I'm RSS'd to the comic. I read them when they're new every day. :P
20:32
@NexTerren Well then be quiet and let people who haven't see it enjoy it....jerkwad.
@James :(
good. You should feel bad.
@James not only global warming, but human-caused global warming
I think these days no one doesn't believe in global warming, they just think it's Earth's fault
Republicans have seriously gotten dangerous. The present belief and lies as fact.
...which is not to say that democrats don't do the same.
@James that's not true. And that's a fact.
20:37
It just seems the repercussions of republican lies are potentially world ending which is a little more concerning than rogue emails to me...
I can't vote for people who deny SCIENCE.
On a less depressing note has anyone seen this:
Can anyone explain how this answer got 11 upvotes: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/56946/879
@MikeNichols 11 people clicked the upvote button.
but why...
@MikeNichols Because 11 people disagree with you as to if it's a good answer or not. :P
@MikeNichols Reading comprehension is hard
20:44
But the answer makes no sense, on any level, and barely even answers the question.
@MikeNichols I saw it was a biology question and stopped reading, since that's one of four tags I avoid (the others being meteorology, chemistry, and hard-science). What was wrong with it?
Hm.
yeah, the jump from alcohol->antifreeze->poison doesn't make sense to me
@MikeNichols I'd say, do your civic duty and downvote/comment but you already did that.
and doesn't alcohol actually make you colder?
Its an issue on WB because we aren't all experts on all the topics since there are many.
@DaaaahWhoosh Yeah it thins your blood which means your blood can't retain as much heat
20:47
so... alcohol in the blood would make you freeze faster and taste better to predators, essentially the opposite of what that answer is suggesting
Biologically the answer makes quite literally no sense beyond the idea that alcohol doesn't freeze.
Freeze to death faster yes, actually freeze solid no.
not to mention that alcohol is a solvent and not great for biology...
There were other issues I was aware of that I couldn't fit in my comment.
wait... how does the booze rat's defense mechanism even work?
@DaaaahWhoosh As per the question or the answer being discussed?
as per the rat, how does it defend with a booze-sac?
20:57
@DaaaahWhoosh My interpretation was that it was just really, really gross.
I seem to recall that there are a lot of animals that seek out fermented fruit
That is correct. I think the larger deterrent would be the feces as opposed to the ethanol.
if they were able to spit alcohol/ethanol, that could be useful
and it's only a step away from breathing fire
a fire-breathing booze rat would be awesome
imagine how architecture would need to change
imagine how... boating? ... would change
either a world of stone, or a world that's really, really clean
maybe they'd avoid the plague
21:09
Would humans domesticate them and milk the alcohol?
hahaha
lol that would be great
feed them grapes for wine, honey for mead, hops for beer
and you might as well use them for meat and hides too
especially if they breathe fire, they'd probably evolve to be fireproof
if we domesticate them, they'd get bigger
so maybe hat-sized? booze rat hats?
They could always start pretty big too. The question only says they have to be rodents: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capybara
...fire-breathing booze rat mounts?
21:19
I'm thinking if a booze rodent gets too big, they wouldn't call it a rat
perhaps a booze-hog
I really want to build a world with these animals
