You might get a little more traction in that moon question if you could give some kind of reason about why you want to mess with the phases. Apart from disrupting the tides and day/night cycle, I can't see the reasoning.

How does you browser even refresh itself. Do your work on a Microsoft words or something that doesn't actually wipe everything out. Stack exchange ask question system conveniently safes down the drafts actually. Should it be implemented for answers as well?
It did safe an older version of the draft and somehow replaced the current version I was working on with the previous safe. Pair that with me not realizing until I scrolled up to backcheck something...

@James This is either a really simple (how do I unify opposing factions question) or a really badly written fan-fiction question. If you stripped out all the Jedi/Star Wars stuff, it would be much easier to read.

I have a few that were closed for the wrong reason, the only reason I haven't tried getting them reopened is that they're still not very good questions
My first question was closed for being too broad. Meta posts basically have said that the theme of my question is fair game, so I resent the community for closing it. BUT I got the answer I wanted so I shalln't complain.
I have a hero who uses a pair of handguns as weapons. As he progresses along his journey he's obviously going to become better and better with them as well as run into tougher and more numerous villains. The problem will arise as to how to keep him stocked with ammunition in order for him to batt...
Its a cool game concept though...expand your area of operation after you clear a boss or something to get free ammo. But while in the effort of expanding you have to conserve since you can't yet get your teleport ammo.

@James Yes. One of the wisest things said ever in this chat. "How would this work" or worse "how would this be used / what effects world this have" are Never best answered by "here's an alternative clearly outside the scope and intention of your question."

I don't think either canidate is moral, I don't think either canidate is honest with the voters to a degree unmatched for several presidential elections going back, I don't agree with either candidate's policy, I don't think either canidate is a good diplomat, and I think one canidate has proven that they can lead... but I don't know if I want a good leader that I disagree with otherwise or not... so frankly you guys are just depressing me with election talk.
Is answering your own question frowned upon? I noted it gives you the option when posting the question, but when you click "answer your question" later it asks if you'd rather post a comment/etc instead.
@rek If you feel it's a useful topic that people can hopefully need in the future and feel like you have a very well thought out and useful answer I'd say go for it. If it's just a way to toot your own horn, avoid it. But that's my opinion.
@rek I think some people adopt the attitude of "if you already knew the answer, why did you ask it!" but if you think you have something to help people in the future (and, importantly, it's generic enough to apply to different worlds) then I say you're contributing to the collective knowledge.
@rek Actually I considered doing that to two of my questions. Like "here's an example answer, but I know people can do better." Didn't end up doing it, though.
I once answered my own question because I didn't like the current answers. They were right, but they didn't explain it to me in a way I understood. So I did my own research and figured it out. But I don't think I accepted any answer.
I think you in the future is different than you in the past. So that should be fine
though it's possible the original question is just bad if no one else has answered it correctly yet
@rek There is nothing stopping you from answering your own questions. And there is nothing inherently wrong with asking a question to which you already have an answer. A couple points (some of which are repeats from what others have said) 1. Don't write your own answer right away, give people a few days to a week to post. 2. Be objective when evaluating your answer against the answer of others.
I have asked several questions with the intent to self answer them later...but then people wrote answers that were frankly better than my own and I didn't write it up.
Also for attention bounties are the best bet (which you already did)
has anyone been keeping up with that 'anti-terraforming terrorists' question? I have an answer in mind, but don't want to see if it's been done already
@James Oh, by the way, would you find it useful to have a short program (I'm thinking Python or Mathematica) that would implement the algorithm I used for this question to either determine stability or find regions of stability in a graph of two of the input variables (e.g. mass or semi-major axis)?

@HDE226868 Planet- and system-generating software leaves much to be desired; not enough of it is top-down (i.e. I know I need features x, y, z, so generate something that produces a planet/system that way). Coupled with a visual output and GUI, I bet there would be a lot (relatively) of interest in a program that tells you if your planetary system is stable and lets you muck around with the values until giving you something that is.
